You were born on Earth… the Beacon of Humanity, the capital of the UGE, and… the home you had been born to.
It was a loud place, full of people… so many people that it felt like the world was choking you, in the way that made things so… strange.
You had known only the great megacities of Chicago, the home of your birth… and felt, oddly… at home in it.
You were used to seeing such a grand place. Such technologies that were just around the corner.

You, however, did not share such a wondrous home life.
You only had your father, your mother, dying of cancer after your birth.
However, from a young age, your father did his best to make sure you were cared for. He was not a nurturing man, nor was he affectionate in his parenting style. He was a former marine, who retired to focus all his efforts on raising you.
But he was there, giving everything he could to make sure you were safe, whole, healthy, and wise.
Puzzles were easy, and chess was nothing more than a game for you to play when you decided that counting cards were not fun anymore.
It was a wonderful thing to learn. A quiet thing… he cared and wanted you to grow.
And you wished to grow as well…
After all… you wanted something… you didn't know what it was… but you knew you had a destiny ahead of you.
