Warhammer 40k General thread

So I finally got around to watching it, some highlights:

- Big D being Big E, ON DRUGGGSS
- Wholesome couple Marckus and Kitten
- BOY
- DOOR
- The humour is on point
- The animation is certainly cartoonish and amateurish but no doubt it will be better with upcoming episodes

Overall, very glad it's here.

I'd like them to get into real obscure World of Darkness lore like the did for 40k.
Magic mana space dolphins , and Dark-kin we go.

So about those new Eldar/Necron/Genestealer/Orks models huh.

As someone who doesnt play, it's baffling to see all these new models for xenos. IG regiments next maybe?

Weren't Squats part IG? Haven't watched Arbitor Ian's videos on em in a while.

I considered posting this in the Space Marine 2 thread but I decided that I didn't want to bump it for a not-quite-on-topic reason, Space Marine 1 is being sold for 75% off until January 5th.

I recently bought (and finished) it and it's just phenomenal, if anyone is even slightly interested but hasn't gotten around to buying it I'd strongly recommend taking advantage of the deal.

Agrippina in The Lords of Silence is my favourite depiction of a Forge World that I've seen so far. It's good to be reminded of just how ancient and bizarre they are.

New Codex Compliant video, this time about the Ultramarines Codex.

I want to use this as a jumping off point for my frustrations with the Ultramarines. I think it was a mistake making them the "generic" chapter, and should really have run with a Greco-Roman theme. Things like referring to companies as Centuries and their officers as Centurions. I have no issue with their organizational structure being the one the imperium tries to codify as the default, but a recently founded chapter could have better exemplified adhering to the codex template due to not developing doctrinal divergences.

The chapter that I really find the most boring is the Imperial Fists. Their main characteristics are being good as sieges and stubbornness. For cultural traits, they have the pain-glove, scrimshawing and duels. Otherwise they really don't have much of a distinguishing culture or cult which helps set chapters apart, especially among the First founders.

I imagine that going from Heresy to main 40K they're hurt by the most characterful elements being split off to form Chapters. The 30K iteration, like the Ultramarines, has scope for less conventional units.

Failure to give the Fists character is entirely a failure of the writing, an out of universe issue. There is no reason for the chapter to not develop distinct cultural traits after splitting.

I have always thought that Inwit should have more of an influence on them.
In what ways would you have it impact the chapters culture? As far as I can gather from the wiki Inwits appears to be clanish, so maybe something that transferred to the companies.

Another thing that could be emphasised is the fact that the chapter recruits from hive worlds. For chapters that recruit from Neolithic to Feudal societies have been influenced, but little for those based off hive worlds. Since they primarily recruit from the underhive population, perhaps some ganger customs bleed in. And as an extra, Imperial Fists might be known for vulgar language.
