A long-serving officer within the Army, Funston is the hero of San Francisco, hailed universally as a hero for his imposition of martial law by those afflicted by natural disaster. Likewise, he's had his share of run-ins with leftists, helping quell an uprising in Nevada orchestrated by the Industrial Workers of the World. Now stationed in the Phillipines, Funston will come to the notion that the U.S. needs him more now than ever, with anarchists, foreign despots, and chaos on the southern border.

Resigning from his his post atop the Department of Luzon, Funston will return home to rally the civilian public, recruiting veterans and volunteers, and marching into Mexico. If the U.S. Army can't get order restored down south, then by God he will - even if that means carving out a pro-American republic, William Walker reborn!

    August saw surprising changes throughout the Mexican conflict, as international observers clucked at one another, heding bets and pushing odds too and fro. Wherein the conflict saw the birth of international interest through adventurism and imperialism, it became increasingly romanticised, akin to the Greco-Turkish wars of the century prior. Young nobles and nouveau-riche in the United States, Great Britain, Austria-Hungary, France, and elsewhere eagerly followed the news, sipping coffee and brandy as they bandied about the latest theory of who will do what next.

    Alas, the European peanut gallery would be disappointed as their armchair theories would be thrown out the window. The much desired flare up in hostilities between the United State and Imperial Germany failed to arise within Mexico, content as they were to develop trenches throughout the front. Rather the only hostilities between the two powers was a pair of small skirmishes and a single pitched naval engagement off the Florida Keys which saw a German destroyer sank and not much else.

    Instead, American eyes were on solidifying their Western front, as the Magnonistas were viewed as hostile and predatory in nature (which was completely true). An offensive by the Magnonistas met the power of the United States armed forces head on, and the People's Militias quickly dissolved in the face of trained martial forces. The Magnon brothers watched in dismay as their forces broke time and again, losing much of Chihuahua and Sonora in the process.

    What no one expected was a motley collection of American mercenaries and corporate interests under one Frederick Funston, who gathered quite a force in San Diego. Crossing the border in the early morning of August 17th, Funston cut through to Tijuana. There, he declared the Free Republic of Lower California, free of Mexican or anarchist influence, and proceeded to take his crew of ne'er-do-wells southward and capture the entire province.

    It was really quite embarrassing to the Magnon brothers, who counted on the Americans on being too distracted with their war with the Germans to really engage with the Anarchistas.

    This was a similar thought process of Oroz as he was being led to Zapatista gallows. Having survived for months through the sheer ignorance of the Zapatistas and (former) Porfiriato, he expected the same to go into August. Alas, the Third Empire and the Zapatista both flooded the Orozquista border, seeking to use the microstate as a underbelly in which to pierce through the other side into their actual foe. Ironically, this thinking defeated the purpose, as both armies ran right into one another within former Orozquista territory. What was sought to be a new and surprising offensive in reality simply lengthened the original front. Oroz was quite chagrined as he dropped at his arrogance.

    Abroad, moves were being made. Elements of the French, Guatemalan, British, Austrian, and Yucatan all sought to thrust their foreign policy into Mexico. For better or worse, Mexico's domestic incident increasingly affected everyone's backyard.

    However the civil war has expanded wildly outside the initial imaginations of those that started it. Generals, Caudillos, Mob leaders where will the next offensive be launched?

    [] la Centro - Heartland of Mexico's agriculture, the haciendas rule the roost and the peasanos do all the work for the privilege of living in a room. To feed or not to feed, that is the question, however this region is hard to swap, as the enfiefed ideals of colonial Mexico are still strong here. Current battleground of the Civil War.

    It might be better to not divide the Zapatistas vote between British/French and Yucatan interventions. I'd say it would be better to do British/French.
