Unpopular opinions we have on fiction

"Let's go! open up, it's time for Unpop!"
Alright, time for my mandatory Unpopular Opinions Post. Let's get this over with.
"You're late. You know the deal. You can Omelaspost for a Funny, or you can make an interesting post for an Insightful."
Here in Unpopular Opinions Poster Civilisation, no one chooses to make interesting posts. It's better to make the one joke everyone knows for the Funny, rather than risk your entire life for just one Insightful rating.
"Tomorrow you better not be late, or I'll have you posting for Informative reactions as punishment."
"Yes sir, sorry, I won't be late next time."

Down here, us Omelasposters only get one Rating a day. One Funny rating is just enough to get your post:reaction ratio to the next day. But that's the life of Unpopular Opinions Poster Civilisation. If you wanna survive, you have to Unpopular Opinions Post. Every Omelasposter has the same goal, and that's to make it to the top thread, where all the Brothers Karamazovposters live. Except, most Brothers Karamazovposters are born on the top thread. If you're an Omelasposter, there's only one way up, and that is through the Temple of Unpopular Opinions. The Temple of Unpopular Opinions is the only structure on SV that combines the bottom thread to the top thread. To make it up, you have to post an impossibly hard Unpopular Opinion Reply that no Omelasposter has ever completed. And that's assuming you even get the chance to post the reply in the thread. The inside of the Temple is protected by a barrier and the only way an Omelasposter gets past the barrier is if they've earned a gilded post. I've never even tried getting a gilded post before, but if I'm going to rank up to a Brothers Karamazovposter one day, I'm gonna have to.

Oh no! It seems that you have inadvertently misread my post and think it is saying something very different and incredibly silly! Try rereading it again so you can respond to what I actually said, as we would do in a normal discussion. For guidance advice- saying that something is a factor that needs to be considered when analyzing why people dislike a thing, especially a particular subgroup, does not mean that this is the sole reason or reason everyone dislikes the thing.

Hope to see a response from you soon~
ah, wheres reading comprehention.tumblr.com when you need em?

No, Mandemon caught me. I personally think that everyone with a negative opinion of Velma, including at least one person I consider a good friend, is a racist bigot who probably hates other minorities too. I just am so attached to the concept of social justice that anything involving minorities makes me irrationally angry and feel the need to defend it at all costs, but his very reasonable reads have cured me of this condition and I will go out preaching the Good Word of hating Velma, a very underrated position, post-haste.

After Bean said this, she was made Director and everybody clapped.

anyway uh.
i think that the quality of a dllc fic is directly inversly corrolated to how much it demonizes MC.

I don't think anybody confronted you for reading that book, because you never read that book. You just picked a title you heard liberals are trying to cancel and used it to tell a liberal coffee shop story.
Yeesh, went out for a few hours and this comment happens. Dude, I don't care about this liberal-conservative bullcrap, I am not from the West, and has no involvement in Western politics. Besides, it's because I know the difference between fiction and reality.

Uncle Tom's Cabin - based on reality, and I find it interesting that's all. The reason why I can like an anti-slavery work and yet I like Shield Hero which has slavery in it is simply because it is a fictional slavery, not based on real life slavery, which means it doesn't matter.

What, do you think authors of Isekai novels are secretly slave sympathizers? Nope, they see that slave harem sells, and they only care about money. That, and slave harem novels is not going to brainwash people to liking IRL slavery, as to them it's just a smut fetish. If they become sexists, they are already one way before, and reading Isekai are not the cause.

Besides, what I complain is the fact that some asshole tourist decides to yell at me in a cafe, just because of what I'm reading. They got kicked out btw, because we don't tolerate that narcissistic bullshit here.

If you don't believe me, then that's on you I guess. Not everyone is secretly 'sexist' or 'right-wing' you know.

you have liberals and conservitives in your contry, they arent tied to any nation. liberalism and conservitism are patterns across political idoloies.

dw I for one am glad that everyone clapped in the end. That part was really missing from the anecdote I thought.

If you cultivate an air of apathy you don't really have a leg to stand on when complaining about those that actually care about stuff.

Using memes now? If you don't believe me, that's your problem.

I think the idea that you happened to have a specific anecdote that just happens to feed into the current topic perfectly AND a right-wing culture bugbear about those DAMN PC POLICE AND THEIR OVERSENSIVITY and a recent topic of right-wing propaganda about how those damn culture warirors tried to mess with you and were shown what for very unlikely yes, and I find your defensiveness about it very silly.

a person claiming to be apolitical while not understanding that politics pervades basicly everything.
And I simply does not believe that, just an excuse for people to be obsessive about politics. Even so, what's wrong with being apathetic about politics?

For the love of, that's your Westerners' problem. Nobody talks about culture wars here, as we have no context for it. I find it silly btw, people complaining about fictional portrayals and Hollywood celebs when real stuff is happening.

Perhaps, but my country is quite stable, and I don't care about politics because I am comfortable with any potential winners. They are both someone I am fine leading my country, despite their different politics.

And why should I care about Western politics? It's more like entertainment for me, as your leaders all acted more like clowns recently.

Then why are you upset about people being upset about portrayals of slavery in fiction???

It feels so strange to write several wallposts about a topic and then go "It's just so silly to care this at all, I certainly don't"

The stability you enjoy is the result of the efforts of many. It's great to enjoy it, but you should know what goes into it.

Because it feels like they insult me, like I just want to enjoy this thing, and they imply I support slavery because of it, that I must be misogynistic, and other things. It's fiction, who cares?

hey please dont treat us like entertainment we could be legitamatly dangerous to you.
also if i did this as an american people would skin me alive :p

Okay, I'll be serious with you for a second. Let's just say that fiction has no impact on reality for a moment, I don't agree with that premise, but it isn't important to my point. There are still going to be people who had family members impacted by slavery, know people that way, or simply are angry at how slavery and slavery-based rhetoric shapes and has shaped their countries and societies, which extends far beyond the US and "The West" broadly, for the record. And therefore would be annoyed by portrayals of it in their fiction that they feel are inappropriate, positive, whatever. They object to it because they'd prefer it be portrayed differently in a way that they don't see as disrespectful.

Not having an issue doesn't mean that they think you actively support slavery, it doesn't mean that they think you're a misogynist as a result of that, it means they disagree with you. Now whether or not they might think you in particular are being slightly disengenuous about not caring about all that Culture War stuff and that it isn't propagated where you live (because I guess mediums like Youtube just don't exist outside "The West"??? Also you might want to talk to Hungary and Russia about the idea of culture war stuff not getting traction) when in a previous post you basically just fired off how you hate a bunch of works that are right-wing culture war bugbears, well, that is a separate issue.
