Unexpected Glory (A CK2-style Quest)

The more I hear about Serolmic the more attractive it seems. A natural harbor to build up, a chance to use our basic skills to integrate natives, a whole locked off area for us to develop how we like...

It is definitely the most attractive to me by far.

I'd argue it makes it less attractive imo. If say we had a bunch more territory then hell yeah all that land is great. But as of right now it's a small secluded area with a smaller population with literraly nothing built up. Meaning we would have to do that. The integration would be easier mind you so that's a plus but it's a super unattractive place for trade at the moment and will be for years.

For one we have no port , therefore we have no place for merchants to even arrive to. Secondly as qm stated , there is nowhere to dock besides our land. While def a perk in the long term, in the short it makes it extremely inhospitable to merchants as if there is a storm they cant beach anywhere else on our neighbors territory without dying. Trade is gonna suckkkkk.

Secondly, we would be very very close to the borders and if shit breaks out were fucked hard. We are not a martial hero at all, and the amount of time and actions its gonna cost just to build basic amenities to even get the trade going is time we could have used recruiting good hero units, diplomancing people, getting rich.

The forts not too bad looking right now due to having access to the river at least. But honestly port still sounds the best if we even want a chance at becoming the king of this region

I should also mention, that there are plenty of geographical features that are not on the map because they're not relevant at the moment. So don't be surprised if a sizeable river or small forest pops up here or there.

Heck, every mountain I've ever seen was covered in trees anyway.

Serolmic rhymes with "sell romantics" right?
We could have a song for each place we go to!

I'm a bit confused...each place you go? As in, everywhere Rickard physically travels to?

I mean like each place noteworthy, like a new seat of power or a place of trade etc.
Stuff he would have experienced and is inspired by, basically.

Also if I cant convince you guys to switch to trade prince can I atleast convince you to not immediately send for family to come to new hostile unbuilt territory when they are perfectly well off tailors of well renown in the capital city of our empire ? Like, we should atleast get the bare minimum of stuff built before we send for them

smaller population with literraly nothing built up.

I should clarify that the population of each of the territories is roughly the same. The population is just small in comparison to other territories that I'm not offering y'all. Also, the Serolmic region does have a central city (Serolm) that you'll be starting out in. Granted, the city is just sitting in the middle of everything instead of in the ideal natural port spot, but it does exist.

But it isn't as defensible as Fort Cedre, nor does it have a keep built like Port Helm (which could actually withstand a small siege from the word go).

Do we even know if our family is mostly in the capital (our background), or if they're in all kinds of places?

An excellent question! You haven't checked in with them in a while (wandering through a war zone) so you can't be completely sure. Here's where things stood the last time you checked in:

Your older sister is married and off with her husband, your younger sisters have been helping out with the family business of course, and your younger brother was eager to go off on an adventure. He should be about 12 right now, so maybe he'll even be an apprentice, but to who and for what you've no idea.

Then we could put out letters to check on their whereabouts and make sure they haven't been harmed in any conflicts or such?
So something like
[] Delay your decision, but send out letters to your immediate family to check on their wellbeing and current whereabouts

That would be a valid write-in, yes. I do want to note that you have no reason to expect anything other than perfect health for all of them though. The war has been entirely isolated to the Eastern Lands, and none of your family has left the Empire to your knowledge.

How much Diplomacy did we gain from learning from the Nightinggale?

I knew I was forgetting something. Here, have a cookie while I go make some quick edits: +10 Radicalness.

[X] Serolmic Region
[X] Yes. However, send for close family and those you trust.
[X] A fellow nobleman has expressed an interest in seeing your new lands and has offered to accompany you. Use the opportunity to learn more about the local politics and get to know them. (???)

Well, the vote does seem to be pretty much settled, but I'm not going to have a chance to work on the update until tomorrow anyway so I'm going to leave it open for another 14 hours. Whatever happens, the next vote will be picking out your ministers and the final set up so we can get to kingdom building! Should be fun.

Hmm... A border outpost on the edge of the forest, with the prospect of annual orcish raids. Sounds familliar.

[x] Fort Cedre

[x] Delay this decision.

There is a warhammer fantasy one with a drunk main character in charge of Ostland, it's the edge of the empire and expects yearly attacks, also one of the longer running ck2

[X] Study the native language. You're decently proficient at it already, but a little extra practice couldn't hurt. (???)

That would explain it actually, because I tend to stay away from WH40K. There's just too much lore and I have no idea where to start with it all.

O.O Holy cow. That is awesome. Have a cookie. Have all the cookies. +100 radicalness.

Ok, so I don't want to rig the game ahead of time, so just one cookie for now (sorry). How long did this take for you to do? Any chance I could get you to do an updated one again some day?

My only quibble with this map would be that the Serolmic region is kind of...underwater. If you got rid of the smaller double bay right by the town emblem (by which I mean: turn it into land) you'd have something closer to what I'd intended.

It took about an hour and sure I can update the again for you.

That's not as bad as I'd feared, but still longer than "easy". We'll make it two cookies. +20 radicalness

If you want to update the map (hopefully less time consuming than making it was) I'll give you a third cookie. Either way, thanks. That pretty much made my day.

For anyone wondering what I mean by 'cookies', they're my tokens of gratitude until I come up with a more concrete way to reward contributing players. Any cookie can be redeemed for a +10 bonus on an upcoming roll. And if the cookie is used on a roll that criticals, I'll make it radical in honor of Rickard's Bardic nature.
