Underneath the twisted blue moon

Stuff happened huh. And no votes yet? Let's see if I can sneak in that one!

Now even Dace realizes Monique (totally Aimée) is being even more suspicious than usual!
[] Confront her. Her acting suspiciously was one thing. Her actively hampering Dace's efforts was another entirely.
Basically, Dace's gonna call her out on ther actions, so that's probably the only chance we'll get to know how deep the damage goes. Besides, we have Reaver babysitting us, and he's way older than Gryffindor according to their 'banter' and also able to fight him in close quarters when he's a ranged specialist. Fairly sure he can take Aimée.

[] Monitor the situation. Letting her run free comports risks, and he doesn't need her accidentally releasing a plague or something similar on top of everything else.
Since Monique = Aimée (already explained why in another post that doesn't involve Discord) She's got higher intrigue than us, that choice is essentially worthless, as we'll only find what she allows us to find and nothing critical. Remember, in the advisor list, it's shown Monique's highest stat is Martial, and Aimée niomed lots of martial related blessings so it's most likely hers too. It's made even worse by the fact it essentially makes Monique/Aimée aware we're onto her.

[] Hands off.
Monique may be strange, but he couldn't deny everything she did was beneficial to him so far.
Similar to the one above, save that it doesn't alert her.

[] Encourage Aife. She is a married woman, after all. Having a child wouldn't be remiss of her, it may even help her overcome her trauma.
That's insensitive, and the best way to make sure she falls for whatever Monique has in plan for her.

[] Remarry. He wasn't sure Aife had gotten over her own recklessness, and there was the matter of Rosier. Therefore, it would probably be a good idea to look for somebody to marry, for the sake of alliances, if nothing else.
That's pretty good, however, the political situation isn't stable yet, so there's no waifu that would be useful to us yet. Besides, Dace doesn't want to remarry, if I'm reading it right.

[] Make a heir. His situation definitely counts as an emergency, therefore, using the 'emergency box' in his manor's lab wouldn't be unwarranted. Besides, the idea of creating his own heir with his own hands had something appealing to it.
I'm fairly sure penguin will have us jump through a few hoops on that one, but Monique's worrying me more. I mean, when reading the ingredient list, and knowing it's all bundled up, it's a prime target for theft. I'm not sure us voters deserve anoher Scathach Jr though.

[] Do nothing. Things are not urgent yet.
The dumb option.

Therefore, I cast my vote towards:

[X] Confront her.
[X] Make a heir.

I feel obligated to remind people who think Aimee=Monique that we have seen the two in the same place at the same time even fighting for a little bit. Now this isn't definitive proof given magic but the context of the action is important as well since Monique was the one who brought up rumors about the order anchor which partly lead to our encounter with mum which requires the "they're the same" theory to jump through a few hoops.

Well then, it's a tie. I'm willing to extend vote duration for 24hours, but after that, if another tie appears, I'm flipping a coin.

The construction ran smoothly enough, the autumn wind carrying with it the last wiwps of summer's warmth. Or it was the muggle city burning, Dace thought whimsically as he took in his town's less gifted neighbor, watching impassively as a building crumbled. Yes, definitely the fires.

He would normally have intervened in some fashion, however, he had it on good authority that the city had been evacuated, mostly due to the muggle-repelling charms the land had been doused with. He turned around, moving away from the window as he strolled in the office he had ordered built for himself, the soles of his shors echoing in the room due to the lack of furniture.

Making sure people installed themselves in an orderly fashion was a chore, especially since those ones liked to complain, but in the end, it was done to his standards. However, security was a concern now, as he screening process had to be hurried in order not to make the innocents wait for too long.

-[X] Militia.

Perhaps it was Ishmael's eye for talent, or the fact the current climate made it so people rearmed themselves, the fact was that producing a building for the militia and finding people to man it was frightfully easy. Though they were untrained, there was some potential here. However, as soon as the basics were built, Ishmael immediately switched to his other project, leaving Angus to take care of it, the younger man gritting his teeth but going along with it.

Other than the occasional fighting, there wasn't much more to do than train.

Militia building built ! + 30 Militia units! See informational section for more information.

December 22nd, 1983

-[X] Secret Ops.
65 + 20 (PS)

The building was plain. Well, plain wasn't really the word Dace would have used here, but more like inconspicuous. As inconspicuous as a trapdoor in his wine cellar could be anyways.

Still, as he went down said trapdoor, carefully so as to not slip on the metallic ladder, the stone surrounding him soon disappeared, revealing a massive ceiling, of a massive underground field, complete with artificial sun. His new advisor sure used his money for all its worth.

He finally touched gound and walked in the field, the long grass barely concealing a massive bunker. Ishmael was waiting him here clad in military garb and grunted in greetings, before signalling for him to follow inside the base. Around them, people were running in obvious panic, looking at the duo in obvious fear.

"The newbies've been busy." He answered to Dace's unspoken question as they arrived in front of a plain wall that opened when the military man glared at it, revealing a surprisingly tidy office, with a massive desk and shelves lining the walls from floor to ceiling.

"Things've gone down the drain around here, but two things stood out. First." he showed Dace a folder revealing a man in a crisp black suit that somehow fitted his massive frame, his face covered by a mask, holding an ice cream in his hand and his other holding on a little girl's, who had pale skin and shockingly white hair, a white summer dress, and was licking her own ice cream cone. Around them, one could see corpses and burning buildings.
"That's the Alley Man. He's been dragging that kid around. Probably to toughen her up, but the spied used that to keep tabs on them. Second." Ishmael's face showed his exasperation as a folder appeared from thin air.

Wait, no, it was a man who was holding it. How didn't Dace notice him earlier? He was lounging on a giant red sofa and drinking wine for goodness' sake!

"Second." Ishmael continued, ignoring the man who was waving lazily. " Your daughter has been busy."

Dace didn't like the man's tone, but opened the file, his eyebrows rising the more he read.

Apparently, Ishmael took upon himself to investigate in London and chanced upon Aife, who was leading groups of survivors out of the fires. Remembering the she wasn't supposed to be there, he followed, arriving to a warehouse chock full of people and he inserted in one of the groups, asking questions.

Apparently, Aife was the leader of a settlement Northwest of London, and had been saving people left and right, sending them to said unnamed settlement. When the sighal came, the protkeys activated and Ishmael was left alone in the warehouse.

"She really is a proactive woman, isn't she?" The man, Reaver -since when was he here?! Oh, wait, nevermind, he was always here- laughed, toying with his wine glass, and being most unhelpful.

Now Dace had a choice to make.

[] Write-in what will the spies do. Either the Jack Matter, or the Aife Matter, or Nothing.

In any case, he had things to do, Aife's potential betrayal did remind him of the necessity of obtaining a spare heir, which is why he headed up to his laboratory, cracked open the emergency box and get to work. The winter solstice was rapidly approaching, so Dace decided to make use of that. It was strange that there were six blood vials, when he only filled four, but he didn't detect anything from them, so he shrugged and dumped them in the cauldron like the rest.
Hm. I suppose I can chip in for this one, if only because otherwise this will end in tears. Again.

Possible genetic traits (-5 DC each):
From Dace:

Genius
Blood of Scathach

From Elizabeth:

Beautiful
Bright

From Aife:

A face of a thousand ships
Wrath of the North
Valleys and mountains
Sylph

Ethereal Voice
Bright

From Rosier:

Green hand
Animagus potential

From ???:

Genius
Blood of Scathach

Beautiful

From ???

Sylph
Heroic Bloodline (???)

The Great
Endowed
642. (87 + 97 + 24 + 77 + 94 + 47 + 65 + 30 + 13 + 2 + 95 + 11 = 642)

Dace looked critically at the child, a boy, apparently, and to his frustration, said child didn't inherit his family's bloodline, meaning he would have to try again later on or see his family go extinct.

The boy becan screaming, like all childred do, and he put him on a stone table, the enchantments arcing around the small figure and revealing his capacities.

Due to ???'s intervention, regular genetic traits are also available to the heir, not only the ones their genetic donors held. + 10 to all rolls for the character creation.

Herculean : +8 Martial, +3 Diplomacy, +30 armed combat. Slightly longer lifespan.
The Great : +4 Di, +2 Ma, + 20 Presence, +10 Manipulation.
Sylph : +8 Speed, +40 Movement, +2 Ma, +10 Combat
Genius: +5 all stats, +5 all skills
Fair: +3 Di, +20 Presence
Oh dear, three bloodlines and the child got nothing, how sad. One can wonder who should be blamed here, luck, or the brewer?

Other than the lack of the most important thing, the child seemed to be much stronger than a regular baby, taller and with fast reflexes. Still, there was room for him to put in some changes, the question was, what did he wish to do ?

Due to Dace preferring power to gender, and letting Nature run its course, Dace may choose to rank up one of the child's genetic trait, or obtain one of the following traits :
Fascinating voice: +3 Di,+2 In + 10 Presence
Fertile : +10% Fertility
Green thumb: +10 to gardening rolls
Clear blood: +1 My
Morph: May change eye and hair color at will
You begin with 10 20 points, you may choose any drawback or perks as long as the numbers are there, regardless of the extra genetic traits (rolled to inherit).
Don't bother saying thanks.

Choose perks:

Tier one: -5 points

[]Shrewd: This child is smarter than average. May evolve or disappear during childhood.
[]Brawny: This child is stronger than average. May evolve or disappear during childhood.

[]Ceridwen Do I have to? I know I owe you but- Oh, okay, fine. This is going to be unpleasant.
[]Odin Good girl.

Choose drawbacks: As in, things that will actively try to screw th boy's life up. This won't have a direct impact on the difficulty, especially if Dace assigns someone else as heir, but keep that in mind.

Tier One: +5 points

[]dull: This child is a bit slow... May evolve or disappear during childhood.
[]frail:This child is a bit weak... May evolve or disappear during childhood.
[]Iron blood: This child is a bit lacking magically: May evolve or disappear during childhood.

[]Luck of the Irish. Stewardship/Mysticism
[] Smoke and mirrors. Martial/Willpower

Tier four: Resurgence of the Old World: +20 points Similar to the above, except harder. Choosing any of those puts the gameplay dangerously close to Normal difficulty.

[X]Confront her.

Now that he was pretty satisfied with what he had, he decided this would be the best time to go and have a talk with Aife. For several reasons.

When he arrived to her room, he saw her drinking tea with Monique. Great.

Now he could get answers from them both.

"Father?" Aife looked up at him, taking in the child under his arm with a confused expression on her face, while Monique raised an eyebrow, hiding her mouth behind her hand. This didn't work, he could see the corners of her lips stretching on each side and his own cheeks hurt at how wide the smile was. She then giggled.

"The farce is up, dear."

Aife sighed, before letting her head fall on the table, groaning on what seemed to be annoyance.

"You were supposed to keep it hidden." She whined, as Monique scoffed.

"And you were supposed to stay put. I'm fairly sure your little outing is what got you on his radar."

The young woman groaned in response, before slowly sitting up. Her eyes turned towards the unnamed baby boy and she frowned a bit, before pulling out a set of parchment. The contents?

Aife leaving the Gwallawg family, essentially disinheriting herself, and her divorce with Rosier.

"I was hesitating, but since you've got your spare..." she trailed off, before gettin gup and walking out. Dace was about to follow her when Monique interrupted him, her hands folded under her chin and her eyes giving him a piercing look.

"She won't change her mind about this, I've had two years to work on her." Her face lacked her previous mirth, looking almost solemn. "I've also cleared it with your Albus-mandated babysitter."

She got up slowly, but Dace didn't seem to be able to move. She walked towards him, but he couldn't seem to speak.

She raised her hand to his face.

Her lips moved.

Dace blacked out.

"I'm not sure you will understand what I'm talking about, but now, this is between you and I."

SO, THINGS HAPPENED!
aka : mfw I notice it didn't sent the update for beta when it's finished since a week.

Really tempted to have the confrontation take place before, so I flipped a coin and you lucked out. Rejoice, Monique didn't steal the HCK as she went away!
On another hand, the luck left you when it came to picking up the bloodlines.
Also , Behold ! The power of a grandmaster in Stealth! I wasn't kidding when I was speaking of Imp.
Finally, Background roll-chan literally dragged you into an alley to mug you, that was hilarious. And you didn't get a better Chibi. tough luck.

24 hours votes, any longer and my motivation may decide to go down the drain again.

Hm. I suppose I can chip in for this one, if only because otherwise this will end in tears. Again.

Missed one also, the God options kind of suck. The invistext clearly shows they don't want to deal with us, so we shouldn't ask them for anything. Also, this boy is going to be great by our efforts.

Well, the others kinda all declared for somebody, and they can only give out so much power before weakening.

You will indeed need a lot of effort for the kid to be great.

Wow normally an update like this would make me angry or at least very annoyed (especially since I don't really understand what events lead to this) but since I'm not invested in this quest, Dace, and Dace's goals this entire situation is just hilarious. I don't know why but I really enjoy seeing Dace be consistently shown as the most incompetent person in the room despite his attitude and how he almost literally needs to be carried by his enemies to even keep breathing is just so entertaining to me.

If I have one major complaint about the update it's that you just started calling Monique Aimee kind of randomly when showing that one of our advisors was mommy dearest should be a major revelation of its own.

Just for fun I'll make a vote for the bastard baby since I can see a fun way to make him that will make Dace even more miserable.

There's my vote though I'm 50% sure I did the trait choice wrong but whatever I got my Not! Alexander the Great as unDacelike as I can i.e. a meathead. Now some may noticed that I have leftover points and could pick all my positive perks without taking any negatives but that's all part of my plan since each of the negative traits serves a vital purpose though I wouldn't mind more meathead type traits to buy.

The dull trait will be fun since Alex is also a genius and more importantly while it will likely hinder his martial which will hurt his status as an expy it also will make him worse in intrigue and learning 2 of Dace's best stats. Next is the Iron blood trait which I am sure is really going to grind Dace's gears since he's really into the magical aristocracy thing so having his son(?) be bad at magic is going to be fun. Honestly I would be totally down with making the kid anti-magic if possible since the idea of Big Boss taking him under his wing sounds amazing. Finally I chose the drunkard trait since it wouldn't be Alexander the Great if he didn't ruin everything by partying too hard. I was also tempted get Luck of the Irish to reference how the boy didn't get any of the bloodline traits but that's too much even for me.

you just started calling Monique Aimee

Proof that leaving me with an internet connection when I'm sleep deprived is a Bad IdeaTM. I take full responsibility for that one, it was my bad for not checking what I was copy-pasting from my notes.

especially since I don't really understand what events lead to this

Well, without spoilers, it was the combination of several things here, like Dace's OOC behavior that we warned you against in thread, you guys repeatedly escaping Aimée, while keeping Monique nearby, and expecting nothing to come out of it, and also no sounding the alarm when a suspicious person showed a vested interest in Aife, who was, if you remember, one of the blessed ones Aimée didn't kill last time. There are a lot more events at play, but you'd need to reread carefully the Monique scenes to get it and since you yourself admitted you weren't invested enough, well... -shrugs-

Plus, people's decision not to try and look around when Dace time-leaped is starting to have consequences. For example, the fact Aife for the first quest and the one from quest 2 are completely different people, as shown by the genetic traits that were shown in the homunculus baby creation, is starting to come into play.

Huh really? You would expect spending time with her every turn would had clued in Dace and therefore us about that.

...We literally spent both of our starting "take stock of stuff while lucid of our past life" options on Aife. Dace continues to be unaware that he has the grail - if he still even has it, who knows where it's gone with no eyes on the thing - because we wanted to be extra sure that we knew what was up with Aife this time around. So why didn't we?

The answer here shouldn't be that we were supposed to reach that conclusion OoC, either. You were saying around that time that knowledge of the past quest wasn't just unnecessary, but maybe even harmful. Following that recommendation, either Dace figures it out, or it doesn't get figured out. What had to happen for Dace to figure it out, if spending all the "look around after time leap" points exclusively on Aife, followed by spending time with Aife every turn, was not enough for him to figure it out?

Well, confronting Aimee wasn't great, but now that she's gone we can more reliably get things done. The loss of Aife hurts as well, but this Cauldron Kid is almost built to be a martial Diplomacy monster. It's up to us to finish the job! We just have to invest in his education, and like, not treat him like he doesn't have feelings. We've been through this once before (as the players, Dace has technically raised 3 kids so far because of time travel) and ignoring the feelings of our people leads to ruin.

Speaking of feelings of our people, our second city has a morale of -8! That's really bad! So we're going to have to focus on setting them up before any major issue arise there. We also can't be in the red this next turn. It's having a cumulative effect on out morale that I don't want to find out if it is linear or exponential. So that will limit our budget a lot.

We're gonna have to do damage control, but that's been the name of the game for day 1 for us anyway.

Come guys for BBB Alex! Sure from a mechanical perspective he has several drawbacks for no reason but he has story and a character. Like I joked about making the boy purely for Dace to hate but the traits I gave him are still alright and paint a picture of what the kid will be like.

Alex is going to a strong, brawny child sure he's a bit dull but that's only because going out and having fun is lot more fun than spending time in Grandpa's smelly old library. It doesn't matter if the other kids make fun of him for having trouble making a feather float Alex will just punch them in the face!

See what I mean?

I thought about this and I would say to add in Green Thumb so the kid might have something in common with Rosier. That way the boy has a potential nonviolent hobby and we can claim our heir is our (hypothetical) grandson.
Green Thumb is trait not a perk so that's not an option since upgrading Herculean or The Great is too good to pass by.

Okay one last attempt to try and get votes since there's only about an hour and ten minutes before the vote closes.

Cause last attempts try and raising my own plan up didn't work I'm going to try and make the 'Go big' go home pardon the pun and apologies to Dr. Elsewhere in advance.

First thing wrong I see with Go Big is that it takes Frail which just doesn't really work with the fact the boy will have the upgraded version of the Herculean trait. Seriously what would that even look like since even start of movie Disney! Herc was carrying entire pillars by accident!

Second thing that gives me pause is that it takes the Freya blessing when the invis text shows she really doesn't want us to. This combined with the fact I think Freya was pissed off at Chibi last game for inheriting her blessing really makes this sound like a bad idea since it might make Freya annoyed at us rather than happier like the god options says it would.

Thirdly I really worry that the combination of Freya blessing, Veela allure, and Dionysus drinking will just spell a future disaster when the kid gets older. Like I don't even want to imagine what will happen to him when he goes to a drinking party since I'm sure that drunk people will be more affected by the allure and since he's going to be drinking himself it doesn't paint a pretty picture.
