[X] Teach It
[X] Buy them. The constant stares are getting to you. -2000 Pokedollars (Lowered from 4000 due to Mela Random Event Roll.)
[X] A Shuppet

[X] An Alolan Rattata
[X] A Shuppet
[X] Nothing

To quote someone else, anything but Espurr. Not only do I just dislike that species in general, but the bonuses rub me the wrong way.

Oh damn, I didn't realize the Clothes Vote was so close. Where's our Andosin Pride!? The Village didn't give us money so we'd spend it hiding our Culture!

The nationalists and Nobles wont like us anyway, might as well take pride in it rather than getting some clothes to try and hide it, be unabashedly Andosin!

[X] Save your cash. You can deal, heh, with the stares from people.

You should check out what a Deel is. It looks good on Mary

I hope gigaton hammer will be given a bonus against flying or steel, cause otherwise a Corviknight can casually tank Tinkaton for eternity.

The reason is the constant stares and psychological tension and "are they gonna be racist in this interaction?" Is mentally draining for Mariana to deal with every time she leaves the dorms for a TM. And Mariana is fragile enough at the moment that extra sources of stress are not worth it. We've also had Mela help pick us outfits, so it is clothes we'd like wearing - it's paying money for Mariana's mental wellbeing, a worthwhile investment.

Avoiding a problem doesn't help it. If she wears clothes from Mesagoza to avoid those confrontations she'll never adapt to being able to deal with them, it's the same logic behind some of the votes for making Mariana into the Class Pet. Which, speaking of her role as Class Pet, she'll have to deal with said stares and tension anyway.

If people are going to be racist bastards regardless of the outcome, we should not bend to their demands.

Does Mariana have the mental energy to deal with all these problems at the same time though?

It's easy to say in isolation that Mariana should confront all her problems at once, but she's also still adjusting to a new school in a foreign language, and having to support her new pokemons emotional trauma (whichever one it is)
, and dealing with her own baggage of panic attacks and feelings of unworthiness. Just because you'd like her to be able to deal with everything simultaneously, doesn't mean she's able to.

What I'm trying to say is that this isn't a new problem.
Regardless if you buy new clothes, or keep our current clothes, people are going to be looking at us judgementally anyway because we're Class Prez. If that vote went differently and Theodora or Elise won then it'd be a different story, and maybe buying clothes would do something. But we've already been placed as the face of our class, which means people both in and out of school are already paying attention to us, clothes or not.
  • You will be the face of Class VII to the rest of the campus for good or ill

So if she does have the mental energy to deal with all the problems? Great! If she doesn't? Well it's too late, we've already put her into the hot seat by making her Class Prez, and then Battling Nemona too! We're already dealing with all the problems, may as well deal with them in stride now!

How we are treated in school and how we are treated outside of school are different problems. In school, we're in our uniform all the time. This is about the friction of all our interactions in Mesagoza proper - about being treated as a criminal or curiosity everywhere we go outside the academy, always drawing eyes and attention by standing out. That is different to our role as Class President and how we are treated in school, because they are different groups of people.

It looks like Rattata's picking up some more votes, so I wanna make an effort-post for why they're actually a good option:
  • They're a dark-type, so they can learn the Sealing spell where Shuppet can't
  • Even though they can't train for 2 weeks, they're still at 1500/2000. If we take the Move training and Advanced Battle actions we can totally get them to Badge 2 level for FE1. They're the best option if we want to go for our 1st badge then.
  • Apparently poachers are a known problem for the Andosin Highlands, so that plot-hook is a good tie back to Mariana's home. This would also fit quite well if the clothing vote where we keep our deel wins; even though she's left home and expanding her horizons, she's not forgetting her roots
  • The last line of the option implies they already know how to cook - how did a presumably wild pokemon learn?! Mariana also knows how to cook, so this will lead to some great bonding moments
  • The big appetite when they evolve isn't a problem now, and presumably by the time it is we'll be earning more money and can actually afford it, so it's not really a big deal
  • They're a lot less fraught than our other choices. Shuppet is a literal newborn with abandonment issues, while Espurr explicitly hates other people and "just" dislikes us. It'll take a lot of effort to get them socialised and help with their issues, whereas not!Remy? A lot more chill. I don't regret voting to be class Prez or to make Nemona our standard to reach, but we have put a lot on Mary's plate haha
  • Rattata is also the most immediately useful pokemon. Espurr is stronger, but at the moment we can only rely on them in plot actions which haven't even shown up in votes yet. I made that post earlier on when we'll be able to get to bond 3 and the absolute earliest she'll reach it is FE3, or FE4 if we don't tie our action economy into knots. That's what, our 4th badge if we're very lucky and 2nd or 3rd if we take it slower; she's a mid 3-badge level, and she's not gonna be training with us. She'll only gonna get XP from plot battles, so we can't actually use her as an "over-levelled" pokemon unless we dive headfirst into plot when it shows up
Shuppet's still my least favorite cos they just seem boring to me, but if Rattata overtakes them I'll probably drop my vote for Espurr. Kind of a switch from before the vote when I thought the rat was the least interesting lol.

Edit: Forgot to add, but of all 3 options here Rattata is the least complicated to evolve, so that would be one less thing to worry about.

The weird thing is that Tinkaton is said to launch rocks at Corviknight, which is A) neutral damage and B) not a move any Pokémon in the line naturally learns.

Could've at least let them learn Rock Throw, or Rock Blast, or Rock Wrecker, Smack Down, so many options for "Launch a rock at something" and none were placed in the movepool of a Pokémon which canonically launches rocks at things.

I feel like it would be good for an arc, personally. Mariana's not in the best place right now, and shying away from things is natural. But when she finally starts moving past her current troubles she can switch clothes for that good ol' Character Development Outfit Swap™.

Though I also see the benefits of being unapologetically Andosin, which is why I abstained from votes that weren't for my beloved kitten.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I see things as well. Getting new clothes also doesn't mean throwing out our old ones, only expanding our wardrobe. Personally I think we should still wear our deel when we represent the class, but it'll be helpful to have an option where we can go into the city without being constantly stared at.

My headcanon is that the Tinkaton line has a signature move that's really really good against those metallic birds, but you can't access it in game because its banned in official battles for being too lethal.

Honestly, while Rattata is still, my no.1 pick, no option in this quest so far, for any vote, has been things that I wouldn't want to see. Just one of the options is something I would want to see a bit more than the others. So honestly, I'm rather happy with whatever option is picked

Also my hc was always that the Tinka-line had a natural affinity for golf and used random rocks as balls, while shouting "FORE" in pokemon before comitting war crimes against the Corviknights.

A decision which has absolutely nothing to do with the chairman of the board's beloved Skarmory. Honest.

"Birdie!? Where?! I'll end its whole career!"

Kahili is going to look at the little lady golfing with a 100 kg sledgehammer and wonder why she's wasted her life.

[X] Teach It
[X] An Espurr

Cat related mad science plot sounds amazing.
I wonder what they did for this, fused multiple pokemon into one?

Genesect is another one - Team Plasma playing silly buggers with fossils with essentially the same goal as Team Rocket with Mewtwo - creating an ultra-powerful, ultra-versatile super Pokémon.

And of course, there's at least one example of this nonsense per arc in Trails, usually in the form of a little girl with an Alice in Wonderland theme. I just thought ours was Ostia.

Espurr here sounds like she might be a test run for a similar project.

The franchise has a long history of mad scientist experiment OP mon.

Gen 1 obviously has Mewtwo, but the manga also has an Eevee that can swap back and forth between Flareon/Jolteon/Vaporeon.
Red's Eevee is nothing, the Manga has Thu-Fi-Zer / ZapMolCuno.

I imagine it knows only pain.

And next on the list is Type: Null / Silvally. Who really plays into the "Abomination unto god" theme of mad science experimentation.

Ostia's definitely a science experiment. They're Millium with a Renneface. They could not be more of a science experiment tyke bomb if they tried.

The question is if Espurr and Ostia are attached to the same group. Or if we're going to have to split our bloody vengeance multiple ways.

I had no idea my son's edgy Pokémon romhacks were manga canon.

They could also be KeA!

God I hope they're not also KeA.

We could try asking Argy for help. Reminder that Espurr is hostile to humans, Mary slightly less so.
I feel like if we're relying on Argy for diplomacy, we've already lost. Maybe Psychic solidarity will help though.

I wonder if roboparents are involved in shady science plot or not. Will we get "What the hell are our flesh colleagues doing? Don't they know that this is bad science? Are they stupid?"? :V
