I feel it's best to go look for the missing person.
With the increased aggressiveness of wild Pokémon it's got a high chance of ending badly.
yeah, the stakes for that one are just much higher, so I'd rather we make sure it gets done.

She doesn't like baths, she likes being dirty, thank you very much!
Oh, this is going to be a fun scene at some point, isn't it?
"What's this about Erika?" You ask, having heard her name being mentioned. Hopefully she hasn't gotten herself into trouble.
Note how Mariana immediately perks up upon hearing Erika mentioned. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

I think it's very possible to get Drilbur to 2-badge level if we take Dig Deep this turn. If we use the exp gain from this round of tasks as precedent, she'll likely advance next turn should we choose to take the Dig Deep action.

Edit: We're actually certain to get Drilbur to 2-badge level if we take either Dig Deep or The Other Half of the Battle + an Herbal Horticulture and succeed our rolls.

[] Song of Roland: Even with your new capture, Roland is going to be the star of the show during your Gym battle. Beyond just getting him trained and prepared for Thursday, you should spend some time with him to show just how much you appreciate and care for him. Nothing too extraneous though, he'll need a full day of rest for the Gym Battle.
  • Increase Bond with Roland
  • Mutually Exclusive with Dig Deep and Crystalline Cat

[] Crystalline Cat: You're pretty sure you've yet to spend time alone with Renne, Roland was always with you during your sessions with her. Time to fix that, see the sights of Cortondo with her, taste the locales, feel the grass beneath your feet. Hopefully your arms don't get tired from carrying her all day.
  • Increase Bond with Renne
  • Can become a Greatly Increase under a Hard CHRM Roll (DC 26)
  • Mutually Exclusive with Song of Roland

Shouldn't these be Greatly Increase due to the gifts we bought? Or are those only for the standard Bonding Actions?

  • Starter will be a Dreepy
  • Dreepy will begin at Early 0-Badge Level (50/1000) (Gained XP from beating you)
  • Ability: Infiltrator
  • Tera Types: Dragon, Ghost, Steel
  • Will know additional moves (Double Team, Shadow Sneak)
  • Will evolve into Drakloak once it learns Extremespeed
  • Final Evolution into Dragapult will require Mariana to return with them to the Andosin Highlands for a Trial from the Pokemon's sire, Jenkins' Dragapult.
  • Once fully evolved, it is one of the fastest Pokemon in the world.
  • Dragon types are temperamental to raise, having ego issues.
  • Is a newly born hyperactive child
  • Will absolutely outlive you
From the bolded bit, I think it's important that we take the action with Roland, given that we just added another member to the team that he also doesn't get along with. I don't expect things to be solved in a single action, but I think it's important to start work now when the upcoming Gym Battle is gonna be a 2v2, so Roland's gonna have to learn to work with others.

[] Plan: Dragon Rescue
-[] Day Two Optional Task: The Lost Woods
-[] Song of Roland

[] Plan: Dragon Smoothie
-[] Day Two Optional Task: Herbal Horticulture
-[] Song of Roland

Just doing some theorycrafting.

Here's some alternate plans, since I do like the idea but want a different bonding event.

[] Plan: Forest Cat-Therapy
-[] Day Two Optional Task: The Lost Woods
-[] Crystalline Cat

[] Plan: Herbal Cat-Therapy
-[] Day Two Optional Task: Herbal Horticulture
-[] Crystalline Cat

Edit: Just to remind everyone, every Renne Bond Point we don't get here will cost 1 Bonding Action and 1 AP in the Main Weeks.

If we use Drillbur in the Gym Trainer test, we'll probably get XP from that as well. I'm thinking we do the Lost Woods then either Roland's bond or The Other Half.

[] Plan: Ignore Sidequests; Train with Roland.
-[] Song of Roland
-[] The Other Half of the Battle

Not that ignoring the optional tasks is something we should be doing (since we'd likely miss out on money, materials, and stat xp), though this is probably what I'd go with if we're willing to do that. I'm unconvinced that we should do the Renne bond action right now since Roland's bond seems more important to maintain along with training our drillbur.

[] Plan: Dragon Rescue
-[] Day Two Optional Task: The Lost Woods
-[] Song of Roland

I shall support this because I want to spend time with our boi and also because the Pawniard mentioned that their sister killed a human, and we have a missing human...

Me, a fool: It sure will be difficult to decide which two tasks we'll want to pick other than the Gym of the three that look good.
The QM: Have 6 of them instead.

My inner minmaxer is screaming at me to do Other Half and Do as the Rimeans do, but the arguments for Roland are convincing. I'd be fine leaving the Optional Tasks alone to better focus on gym prep and socials, but the increasing DC of the Lost Woods has me wary of leaving it any longer.

I guess a Roland social might be doable tomorrow as well, if it's in the morning?
Pokedollars: 4,000 on your Person
I think this should be 22,000?
You make your way upstairs, you hear the sound of a Pokeball recalling mechanism as you approach the door. Right where you left them was Ostia, though they only had Argy out. Meaning they must've recalled Poly for the night.
I wonder if Ostia caught a pokemon here when they were looking in the forest.
Traits:
Ambition's Shadow: ???. Knows the move Curse
This is interesting. Looks like each of the options for our third mon would've had a different reason for knowing Curse, unless this is because they literally grew up in the shadow of someone that meant they learned Curse?

Sidequests feel like a smaller priority right now than training. We gotta make sure our team is as strong as it can be.

Definitely voting for these:

[] Plan: Ignore Sidequests; Train with Roland.
-[] Song of Roland
-[] The Other Half of the Battle

[] Plan: 2-Badge Drilbur By Friday
-[] Dig Deep
-[] The Other Half of the Battle

But I'm tossing a couple more on the pile too:

[] Plan: Convince Renne to Fight
-[] Crystalline Cat
-[] The Other Half of the Battle

[] Plan: Grand Entrance
-[] Knowing is Half the Battle
-[] The Other Half of the Battle

[] Plan: Two 2-Badge Levels
-[] Day Two Optional Task: Herbal Horticulture
-[] The Other Half of the Battle

If I'm not mistaken this plan gets us the 800 Poke XP that Drilbur needs to become 2-badge level given we succeed our mandatory task.

[] Plan: Dig Deep and Get Smart
-[] Day Two Optional Task: The Lost Woods
-[] Dig Deep

Likewise, if I'm not mistaken, this plan will net us 600 stat points, pushing our KNOW to 8, and give Drilbur 700 Poke XP (leaving only 100 XP to reach Badge 2-level) if we suceed our rolls.

Also, regarding this plan:
[] Plan: 2-Badge Drilbur By Friday
-[] Dig Deep
-[] The Other Half of the Battle
Doesn't Herbal Horticulture give 400 Poke EXP to all our pokemon without a roll, making it a better choice than Dig Deep? Or am I reading things wrong? I assumed the Optional tasks gave Poke EXP to all of the pokemon in our party.

I see I'm going to have to do some campaigning for the people who haven't played Trails.

Although really, it comes down to two things:

1. Training to be the very best like no one ever was is our personal ambition. Serving the people of Paldea as up-and-coming civil servants and/or soldiers is our job.
2. The sidequests, especially the forest one, are definitely leading into the plot mysteries we've established so far, and I really, really think it would behoove us to learn as much as we can about what's going on before things inevitably come to a head on Friday.

That said @ArvisPresley important question: is the reward for Lost Woods supposed to be "PROW XP" instead of "STAT XP"? Or does it really go to all of our stats?

In Trails games, sidequests are very much a priority.
The purpose of class VII is to show the country that nobles and commoners can work together and basically be the catalyst for change.
This is mostly done by helping/saving everyone and their grandmother, so that one day when we need help, we'll get it from those we helped before.

Edit: also, I don't know if this will carry over, but in the games the field exercises are graded and the only way to get the highest grade is to do all the optional missions and one hidden mission per trip.

Commander Blue, she calls him that cause unlike the other Pawniards he's blue.
A shiny! That's a surprise.

thinking about gnawing on one of the Naclis all the while.
Okay, there's no need for that, you have already won.

The little furry Pokemon blinks once. "Roland, someones trying to attack your trainer."
Ohhhhhhh, that's dirty.

"And if I say no?" Roland taunts her, like a sore winner.

"Well you suck and—" Drilbur puts up her claws and blows a raspberry at him.

"Why you little—"
Okay, I'm starting to get where Renne is getting from.

"Is she gone, Argy? We have a few hours before they get back. We should check the forest first…"
Ah, so they are like Millium then.

On top of Nemona's head meanwhile was a Cutiefly
Huh, not what I expected for her third pokemon.

[] Plan: Dragon Rescue
-[] Day Two Optional Task: The Lost Woods
-[] Song of Roland

[] Plan: Forest Cat-Therapy
-[] Day Two Optional Task: The Lost Woods
-[] Crystalline Cat

I've talked myself around to definitely rescuing Watterson before the DC goes up any higher, but I'm undecided between the story rhythm of hanging out with Roland or the long-term benefits of hanging out with Renne. I might do the former Wednesday and hope we have space for the latter Thursday.

[] Plan: Dig Deep and Get Smart
-[] Day Two Optional Task: The Lost Woods
-[] Dig Deep

This is also plausible for the Poké XP, and would hopefully get Drilbur to Badge 2 when combined with the Gym Trainer fight (or even the first part of the Katie fight given that we've seen Pokémon gain levels and even evolve mid-battle here).

Man. I really want to scout out her roster but we just don't have the time...

I'm considering if we could just ask Nemona and/or Atticus if they may have some tips since it seems they'll probably fight Katie before us, but it might not be enough to really matter on such a short notice

I feel like The Other Half is just better than Dig Deep in pretty much every way. Except narratively I guess, though considering the latter doesn't actualy require battling we could always do it tomorrow morning instead?
Dig Deep just maximizes Drilbur's Poke EXP gain tbh, and is a relatively easy check only needing to roll a 3 or higher. We could probably level up Drilbur during the 1st Gym Battle just as easily doing The Other Half and The Lost Woods instead, while also getting more bonds with different character and forgoing the roll altogether. We'd also still be leveling up KNOW.

[X] Day Two Mandatory Tasks: From the edges of the Breadbasket to the peripheries between Cortondo and old Badajoz. Sightsee and Experience the tension brewing in the province

  • Herding Wooloo: Yesterday's attack has caused some local Skiddo and Wooloo to flee from their pastures. Track them down and bring them back before they get hurt or eaten by the local Wild Pokemon. All of Group 1 will do a 1d20+PROW Roll. DC 18. Lowered due to Prior Actions.
  • Not so Abandoned: Reports from trainers passing by suggest that the Badajoz ruins aren't as abandoned as previously thought. Do some light investigative work, it's probably nothing but better safe than sorry. All of Group 1 will do a 1d20+KNOW Roll. DC 18. Lowered due to Prior Actions
  • Rewards: 8,000 Pokedollars, 3 Pokemon Materials, 200 Poke and STAT XP
Aww. I just realised we're guaranteed to get KNOW XP during the Mandatory task, which means our dreams of a full KNOW turn next week are probably dead.
EDIT: Though actually, @ArvisPresley are there any consequences to failing these rolls?

Yeah I'd definitely support a cat plan if someone could convince me I'm overthinking with Roland, just for the sheer weekly AP savings. Hopefully it'll still be available Thursday.

Wasn't there some speculation that bad things will happen if we don't get Roland to Bond 3 before he evolves? I vaguely remember that being a thing.

You know, out of every Bond action here I bet Crystalline Cat will still be around the next day, there doesn't seem to be any circumstances that make it so we have to do it today. I think we can afford to hold off on that one specifically.

Basically, dragons and ghosts are temperamental and Roland is both, plus he does seem to want to kill Renne. So in effort to not have him go full Ash's Charmeleon on us and the rest of our team we want him at Bond 3 or maybe even Bond 4 before he evolves into a much more powerful Drakloak.
