This was inspired by DrTortoise's similar quest on SB, and I'm publishing this with his permission (through a PM exchange). Yes, Rin's mother is an Uzumaki, but there will be no Rinnegan, Wood Style, Hagoromo's powers (for anyone other than Naruto and Sasuke), nor Fuuinjutsu power wank. I initially posted this on SB, and am crossposting here. Quest start!

Your name is Tohsaka Rin, genius magus extraordinaire. Unfortunately, it seems like you've just died. You had just witnessed Berserker's true prowess after that ri- ritual you (hehe) helped Shirou and Saber with. Ahem, moving on! You killed him, only to find out that he had five more lives, and he literally crushed you into paste, you think…? Your memories are a bit fuzzy.

You only remember something like a holy light after that; Saber most likely did something, but it apparently was too late for you. You eventually notice that you feel like you're floating in something warm. You

He says, "Rin. This child's name will be Uchiha Rin," officiously, and it's all you can do not to laugh at his serious (seriously cute!) act.

You didn't expect to have the same given name as your previous life, though. Either you got very, very lucky (which is insanely rare for you), or something else is afoot.

Ah, you are tired of thinking about that! It's a rather traumatic memory, and fresh in your mind. (No, it isn't that traumatic. You are made of sterner stuff than that!)

Before you even realize what's happening, you're someplace cold. Giant hands are holding you, you can't control your body, and you are panicking despite yourself. You really don't like not being in control of your body; after a bit of time of the sensation, you got so frustrated that you started letting out some vile curse words. In German and English.

Or, at least, you tried. For some reason, you can't control your mouth either! After a while of trying to curse, you hear something that sounds like an infant or small baby crying, but ignore it in favor of continuing your tirade.

You find yourself on a strange platform, seemingly made of glass, and something that looks like a Rune adorning its surface. You look around, and beyond the lit platform, everything is dark. You are back in your body, that of Tohsaka Rin, that is, though you think you are a bit taller than before…? Or maybe you got that impression because you were a baby for a little while.

Speaking of which, was that a dream? Or are you dreaming now? You examine the Rune again, and you somehow know that it means 'Origin', though it doesn't belong to any Runic system you recognize.

Suddenly, there are three podiums in front of you, each holding an item. 'Where did these come from?' You think, a bit spooked.

One holds a sword, and somehow reminds you of Shirou; one holds a replica of the Caduceus, and reminds you of Kirei slightly. The final one is a convincing replica (?) of a particular gem you remember very well - it's the one you used to revive Shirou that one time.

"…Please don't tell anyone," you say, almost… begging?!

"Of course, of course," Zelretch says dismissively, "I wouldn't want your prospective husband getting too much attention of the wrong kind."

"He's not my-! Never mind - thank you, master Zelretch," you say, grateful.

What- what the hell did you just watch…? You must have been well into your twenties then, maybe even early thirties. This goes far beyond surviving Herakles!

…Weren't you barely seventeen when you died? The seed of doubt enters your mind. If you lost about a decade of memories, how many more years are out of your reach right now? For all you know, you might even be a True Magician already!*

You have been depressed since you found out that your Circuits were unusable, and your family noticed, but fortunately, they didn't confront you.

'How the hell did I end up with unusable Circuits!' You had thought, more than once, angry and sad.

Then, after witnessing a particular memory of yours, a new possibility occurred to you: your Circuits might have been locked not on their own or with Magecraft, but with the use of True Magic - to be exact, the Second Magic. You don't know if it is an accident or if Zelretch intervened, but if it's the latter, you are going to feed the old vampire his spleen!

Hahaha. Hahahahaha! Muahahahaha!

You are busy thinking up horrible tortures for Zelretch when Shisui approaches you. He comments, "that's an evil-sounding laugh you've got there, squirt."

Your laugh cuts off abruptly. You say, "Not squirt!" Stamping your foot and hopefully not looking like you're pouting.

"Easy there," Shisui says with a laugh, "you might break your crib."

You look at Shisui in an imperious way and say, "Shisui-nii, walk!"

Shisui looks at you and says, "you want to go on a walk?"

"No!" You say, "wanna try walking!"

Shisui goes stiff, then laughs a bit. He says, "if you're sure, kiddo. Be careful, okay?"

That's why you love Shisui. He doesn't try to stop your attempts at new things, he simply tells you to be careful and supervises.

Under your brother's watchful eye, you crawl around a bit, then try to get on your feet. You try again and again, but you get tired eventually, and Shisui takes you back to your crib.

"Rest up kiddo. You'll get it tomorrow," Shisui says, but you can barely hear him.

The next day, after getting a change of diapers and being fed, you say, "Mama, put me down."

"Huh? Rin, what's this about?" Your mother says.

"Wanna stand. Wanna walk!" You say.

Your mother stiffens and calls for your father, but after a short conversation, your mother puts you on the floor. You crawl on all fours, then try to get up. You absently note that your stamina has already grown a lot since yesterday, somehow.

After a lot of tries and many failures; even some bruises, you manage to stand on your own. You sway a bit, but stabilize yourself, though your father is there, ready to intervene. You make one step, two… then drop, into Suiho's arms.

You refuse to give up, even though your father tries to dissuade you. Your mother, on the other hand, is less overprotective and more like Shisui, now that she saw you can handle it.

You try again; this time, you've got a handle on your balance… and simply walk, like you've been born on your feet.

You make it a daily routine to walk around, building up your stamina and lower-body strength. Once, your mother comments that you are preparing to be a kunoichi early.

You ask, "what's kunoichi?" Caught by surprise by the somewhat unfamiliar term.

Now it's your mother's turn to look surprised. She says, "wait, you don't know what a shinobi is?"

You shake your head, though you know it's the same kanji as 'ninja' in your original world.

Your mother regales you with tales of legendary warriors who can literally breathe out the elements.

"Like a dragon?" You say, unable to stop yourself. People here have breath weapons?

"…Something like that," your mother says, "sometimes, I forget how young you are, Rin," sighing, but you can tell she no longer feels conflicted about you.

You think of telling her about your sensing ability… but decide to wait a few months before springing that up on her.

A few days later, you decide to get rid of a crippling weakness: you decide to learn how to read in this world. While the spoken dialect is similar enough for you to get it completely very quickly, the written part is significantly different from what you remember in some respects.

So, you take a book from your home's small library and try to read it. An hour or so later, you put it down, or rather throw it on the floor, frustrated. You say, "why is it so hard!" Barely keeping yourself from cursing.

At that point, your father intervenes. He says, "if you wanted to learn how to read, you could have asked for help, you know, Rin."

Then, he sits down with you and helps you trace the kanji and learn their pronunciation. To Suiho's surprise, you learn even more quickly than he expected, as he tells you.

You eventually ask a question that has you pretty stumped. You tell your father, "Papa, what's Cha-ku-ra?"

He looks at you in a piercing way. He says, "where did you hear that?"

You point at the book in your lap.

Suiho sighs. He says, "I hoped you wouldn't ask such a question until you were at least five." Then, he tells you about the basics of shinobi, or ninja, life.

Unlike your mother's idealized version, your father's words paint a much more bleak picture, though he still hides it behind pretty words. You don't know if ninjas are as prone to human experimentation as Magi, but all the talk of supernatural powers and ruthless mercenaries reminds you of home. It sounds like there's no secrecy for the Moonlit World here, or whatever it's called, though.

When he finishes, he takes a look at your expression and says, "you're even smarter than I thought. You don't fall for pretty words, huh?"

You shrug and say, "so, at what age does the Academy accept students?"

"…Or maybe not," Suiho says.

He doesn't know that you realized the dangers, then decided to become a shinobi anyway.

Your father puts his hands on your shoulders, looks into your eyes and says, "please, promise me you won't enter the Academy early, or graduate too quickly."

"One year early, only," you compromise.

Suiho says, "this isn't a negotiation."

You lift an eyebrow.

"Tch," your father says, exasperated, "you drive a hard bargain. Very well! I'll allow you to go to the Academy one year early, as long as your mother agrees and you still want to then. But no skipping grades or graduating before eleven!"

"Thanks, Papa," you say and hug him.

"…Brat," he says, but you can tell by his tone that he's smiling.

From now on, your exercise routine becomes more intense, though you don't dare try things like push-ups at this age. Your father has spoken of something called 'Taijutsu' and even though your specialty will always be Magecraft, it sounds like close combat is a big deal here.

You eventually ask Shisui what Chakra is, exactly.

He scratches his head and says, "kind of expected this question, though not so soon. What do you know of physical and spiritual energy?"

"Nothing," you say, truthfully.

Shisui goes on to explain about the energy produced in one's cells, the Physical Energy, also known as Yang Chakra (not to be confused with Yang Release Chakra), which rises with exercise and the energy produced by the spirit -though he was not clear on how- called Spiritual Energy, or Yin Chakra, which rises with life experience.

"What's Yang Release and Yin Release Chakra, then?" You say.

Shisui goes on to tell you about the seven Natures of Chakra, the five Elements and the two skewed ratio Natures. He also tells you that you need to train 'Chakra Control' to be able to use Chakra Natures well at all.

"I'll be able to use all Elements," you declare.

Shisui agrees, patronizingly, but he doesn't know yours was a statement of fact, not ambition.

It's even more urgent for you to train physically now, if your Od pool -or Chakra, whatever- rises through exercise. …Wait, did your brother say that life experiences raise your Spiritual Energy?

You say, "nii-chan, what if someone has more Yin Chakra than Yang?" A bit worried.

"Smart question," Shisui says, "the thing is, our clan, the Uchiha clan, is more likely to lean towards Yin. Having a skewed pool of Chakra means that your Chakra runs out according to your weaker energy." He rubs his head, then says, "did I make sense? I sometimes forget you're barely over ten months old."

You give Shisui a thumbs up. Your single tooth glints in the light. (Damn that tooth! You have suffered to get it!)

"Gah!" Shisui says, "Guy flashbacks! Guy flashbacks!"

"Who's Guy, nii-chan?" You say, laughing at your brother's bizarre behavior.

"You really don't want to know," Shisui says, "just don't start wearing green spandex, all right?"

Green spandex?! You shudder.

Shisui nods and says, "yeah, disgusting, right?"

You nod.

You continue your lessons with your father, and manage a level of literacy in less than two months that high school students were expected to be at in your previous world. Your father's feelings were mixed again.

You keep hanging out with Shisui as much as you can; he's a breath of fresh air, since you've never had a brother before, much less an older one.

Well, Sasuke is well above average in intelligence for a toddler, you'll give him that. But somehow, you can tell Itachi is on a whole other level. It wouldn't surprise you if he talked and maybe walked faster than even you did, and you're mentally seventeen!

Spoiler: A Father's Concern

After putting Rin to sleep you head to the kitchen and sigh. She was such a smart child, it was almost scary. Another Genius. The world must hate you.

You love your daughter, but sometimes you wish she wasn't so smart. When she asked what a Shinobi was, you were surprised before remembering her age.

You weren't so surprised when she asked when the Academy accepts students. Your lips quirk upward at that.

She doesn't understand the danger of the Shinobi life. No one really does until they experience it. You could be raised on countless war stories and mission tales that just went wrong and still not be ready.

Still, if there was one good thing that came from your talk, you got her to promise not to graduate before eleven. You know how graduating early can effect a child, all you need to do is look at your son. He was so much more innocent and carefree before graduating. Sure the war might be over now, but the fear of Rin losing that innocence and carefreeness?

You hope it won't happen for many, many long years to come. So you can actually raise this child properly.

You sigh again when you think of Shisui. You messed up there. Constantly going on missions, the rare times you were home you were mostly training him, and how you pressured him into graduating early. Sometimes, you wonder if he resents you for what you did. You know you do. That's why you had Rin in the first place. To try and rectify that mistake.

But it seems you were 'blessed' with another genius. One that seems intent on keeping pace with Itachi. The poor child that, if rumors are to believe, will be graduating at six. That, no matter what, you don't want to happen to Rin.

That, you promise to yourself. Your daughter will grow up as slowly as you can to protect her from the harsh world. So she can make friends and talk about clothes and boys and...

...god you are going to need a drink.

You can't resist. When you smell blood, you pounce. Sasuke being less than two years old doesn't matter in this case.

You say, "my brother is more awesome than yours," deliberately needling his weak spot.

"No! Nii-san more aweshum!" Sasuke replies back.

Which devolves into childish bickering, but you don't mind.

When Itachi and Shisui return, much to the latter's amusement, it is to find Sasuke trying to bite you. "What's going on here?" Shisui asks, still amused.

Itachi's face is blank, so you can't tell what he's thinking.

Sasuke immediately stops trying to bite you and goes up to Itachi, saying, "nii-san! Rin says her brother more aweshum! But nii-san best brother in da world! Tell her, nii-san!"

Now you can see Itachi's lip twitch upwards. He says, "I don't know. Shisui is a rather awesome brother," mischief dancing in his eyes.

Huh. You didn't think Itachi capable of such a thing.

Sasuke starts pouting at Itachi, looking like a kicked puppy. He also constantly repeats his brother's title.

Itachi bends down a bit… then flicks Sasuke's forehead.

"Ow ow ow. Why, nii-san?" Sasuke says, looking at his brother like the older boy had betrayed him.

"Foolish little brother," Itachi says, "there's no need to get into fights over me. I can defend my… awesomeness myself."

"Okay," says Sasuke, "but didja hav' to flick?"

"Yes," says Itachi, then turns to you. He then says, "thank you for keeping Sasuke company. I might ask mother to arrange a play date later."

"You're welcome, Itachi-san," you say, smiling evilly, "I… wouldn't be opposed."

Itachi seems surprised, most likely at your eloquence, then smiles. He says, "it might do Sasuke some good, to spend time with you."

"Nii-san!" Sasuke says, "don't need no stinkin' witch!"

You can feel your eyebrows twitch. You say, "what did you say, you brat…?"

Sasuke sticks out his tongue, and you realize that you're speaking to a child less than two years old. You feel your cheeks grow hot from embarrassment. Before you say anything, Itachi intervenes and takes Sasuke away.

For the next year, you train your body. Under your mother's instruction, who used to be a Jounin in Uzushiogakure, you start more strenuous exercises.

You finally tell her about how you can tell who is entering a room and a little about their mood.

"That's a powerful ability," Korin says, "unfortunately, I didn't inherit that from my grandmother; neither did my mother. I AM a Chakra Sensor, but I can't use it without my Chakra. I recommend that you experiment a bit with it - until we've unlocked your Chakra, you probably won't have much control over your Sensing skill."

You also spend time with Shisui and your grandmother.

The old woman seems enthusiastic over teaching you theory of the ninja arts and such; she might have only been a Chuunin before she retired to raise your father, but her grasp of Chakra theory and things such as sciences and mathematics is only second to the Sandaime Hokage in Konoha, as the woman boasts - a bit bitterly; it seems she's a little too competitive, or maybe he spurned her love when they were young or something.

You are almost certain that Nanako noticed you were learning a bit too quickly and easily; you also showed proficiency in writing and calligraphy without anyone having taught you. But Nanako didn't seem to care - she simply gave you more difficult 'challenges' to overcome. Some were things you would have had a hard time with even as an adult.

Your grandmother seems a lot more fond of you right now; it might have helped that your eyes have already turned black - the classic Uchiha black, signifying the potential to awaken the Sharingan. On the flip side, you now know what a Sorcery Trait- uh, Bloodline Limit is, as well as some examples!

Oh, you also learned what hand-seals do, and how they are made!

Shisui gives you a lecture on how too-early activation of one's Chakra can be dangerous. Then, he says, "wait, do you even know what hand-seals are?"

"Grandma taught me about hand-seals," you say, then show him a passable rendition of the hand-seals of the Great Fireball jutsu.

"Of course she did," Shisui says, murmuring, "shitty old woman," afterwards.

"Nii-chan!" You say, "do you have to talk like that?!" Incredulous at hearing Shisui curse for the first time.

"So, you heard that, huh? But is there room for you to talk? I've heard that the first thing you did when you met her was call her a hag to her face!" Shisui says, a smirk on his face.

"Nii-chan!" You say, annoyed at having that used against you.

"Okay, okay!" He says, "I won't call the shitty old woman that again, at least in front of you."

"You better!" You say, "even if you're right about her. But at least call her that to her face!"

Shisui snickers.

You are Uchiha nee Uzumaki Korin. The proud mother of two children and wife of Uchiha Suiho. And currently, gossiping with the other Uchiha wives and shopping. The current topic was your daughter, Rin.

"Korin-San, how has your second little Genius been doing?" Asks Sara-San, Haru-San's wife, with a giggle. She always wanted the newest gossip.

"Oh yes, how is Rin-Chan doing?" Inquired Yui-Chan, wife of Reo-San, a small grin on her face. Like you, she wasn't an Uchiha by blood, so the two of you get along quite well.

"She's doing great." You state with a proud smirk. And it was true, especially in the light of learning that your daughter had inherited a rare sensing ability even in the Uzumaki Clan.

"Oh? You haven't looked so proud since she took her first steps." Replied Sara, obviously trying to get the information out of you. You may as well divulge.

"She recently told me that she can sense others. Without having her Chakra unlocked." I add in the second part quickly before they can interrupt.

"Really? Is that even possible?" Exclaimed Yui, eyes wide. You notice even Sara is surprised, making you smirk. Almost nothing surprises that woman.

"Yep! It's a rare trait in the Uzumaki Clan. Normally it's difficult to direct without Chakra but I'm confident my daughter will be able to figure it out." You boast as you grab a couple fresh tomatoes.

"That's impressive! Hey, you're a sensor, right Korin-San? You planning of teaching your daughter your ways?" Sara asks, an obvious tease, but not an unwarranted one.

"Of course! My family has been great sensors for generations! My son may have missed out on it, but my daughter has enough talent for the both of them!" You boast grinning wide.

"That's a bold claim Korin-Chan." Giggles Yui, a hand obviously hiding a smile.

"Claim? Hah! I am making no claims, it's a promise!" You state filled with determination. You know Rin will be a great sensor and you will help her with it! The two others giggle at you while picking up their own groceries.

After your statement the three of you finish shopping and go to a Dango stand for a small snack.

"So, any progress on any other fronts?" Sara asks smirking. The question makes you think for a moment.

"Well, her grandmother says she's an absolute genius when it comes to understanding theory and reading." You say with a small hum.

"Oh? Anything else?" Yui asks you, looking intently at the tea in her hands.

"Well, she's apparently quite good at Caligraphy as well. May have to bust out the old seal set and start teaching her the Uzumaki specialty. See if she has inherited the talent for it." You say, trying to remember where you put the damned thing.

"How about Shisui? How has he been dealing with a little sister? Still fawning over her?" Sara asks jokingly, mirth shining in her black eyes. You laugh at the question.

"I think it's gotten worse actually." You comment with amusement. You swear with how much he finds over Rin that he loves her more than you and his father. The thought makes you laugh again.

"Really? Those poor boys won't know what hit them when her brother notices them." Sara says jokingly.

"Poor Rin. She'll never get a boyfriend." Yui giggles. The two comments get you to start laughing as well.

"I don't doubt it! But that's only if they survive Rin herself first. Let me tell you, she's going to be a heartbreaker." You reply as your laughter settles down to giggles.

"So has she been trying to imitate her brother at all? I remember when Itachi tried to imitate his father one day and hurt himself." Yui, the sweet angel, asks in concern.

"Not at all. Though he did teach her the handseals to The Goukakyuu no Jutsu." You comment with a chuckle and shake of the head, remembering how upset Suiho was at that. Who knew for someone so worried about her rate of growth wanted to teach her the handseals?

"Really? And she understood it?" Sara asks, curiousity shining in her eyes. You nod in response.

"Rin-Chan really is smart. I almost wish I was that smart when I was her age." Yui giggles with a grin. You shrug in response.

"It's a bit troublesome honestly. Did you know we once lost track of her when she first began walking?" You ask laughing. The little girl had been in her room reading some book. But Shisui and Suiho both were panicking and had no idea where she was until you got home. That had been a funny moment for you, a terrifying event for the boys, and just confusion and smothering for Rin as she tried to reach for her book.

The three of you get up and pay for the bill, having finished your snacks and began to walk back to the Clan compound.

"So, any plans on when you are entering your little genius in the Academy?" Sara inquires curiously. Last time she asked you weren't quite sure, but seeing your daughter now?

"Suiho talked about it for awhile and we agreed to let her enter a year early." You inform them with a proud smile. Your daughter was certainly a source of pride for you of late. You didn't know that you'd give birth to another Genius. But it's certainly something you are proud of.

"A year early? You think she'll be ready for that?" Asks Yui, a bit of tentative. You snort at the question.

"Think? I know! Not only will she enter early, she'll be the top of her class!" You boldly state with absolute certainty, much to the amusement of the others.

The three of you talk for a bit longer before arriving at the compound and going your separate ways. You chuckle as you think of your daughter. Yes, for some unknown reason, even now, you were suspicious of her back then. Now though?

She, next to Shisui is your pride and joy. And you will be happy to watch her blossom into a beautiful, mature woman.
