The World Turned Upside Down - A 20th Century Nation Game (HIATUS?)

And now I see that Russia has nukes, ensuring a successful invasion of Ukraine once they decide to do it. This forum has never been able to not use nuclear weapons to instakill an enemy when the opportunity is given. I dont think Ukraine is for me.

Knight, if you don't like a country's situation, maybe try to improve it instead of complaining about how it's doomed from the start.

It seems to me like you are often worried about what might happen to the point that you determine that it must happen as inevitably as the Earth orbiting the sun. It doesn't really seem to be like a very productive or enjoyable way to play NGs. If you want a nation, play it. If you don't want a nation, don't play it, simple as that.

The Mod has just said that there's no might about it. Even the opening blurb mentions that once Russia gets its act together its going to invade. They have nukes, Ukraine doesnt, nor does Ukraine have any way to get them. Ukraine apparently has no allies in spite of being independent for more than a decade.

Its been set up to fail.

Nothing else that's open seems appetizing, apparently Korea is still a Colony of Japan so I'd be subserviant to Tokyo on foreign policy which limits my ability to do a lot of stuff. Spain seems to be suffering from nationalism even though no one else has and brazil is a backwater with half its potential cut away.

All in all everything thats open sucks. I think I'd like to wait.

Less than a decade, actually. This scenario is set after the collapse of the Russian Empire as an alagoue to our timeline's end of the U.S.S.R. and so the collapse must have happened very recently.

Also your point regarding homegrown revolts not tending to succeed without foreign aid is disproven by the S.S.R.s of the former Soviet Union: they needed no assistance to up and walk out.

All of the nations in this scenario have issues. The British Empire is trying to corral its allies despite the fact that there is no longer a unified enemy to unite them against. The Empire of Mexico is undergoing nationalist movements and an unstable border. The Democratic Republic of Russia must figure out how to stabilize the new and potentially corrupt government. There, simply put, is no perfect nation.

I may not be able to convince you to join our nation game, but to criticize the scenario with inconsistency is in quite bad faith.

Dude, part of the fun of Nationgames is working with a countries issues, a perfect, totally stable oh so unconquerable country with no enemies and a booming economy is absolutely boring as shit. It's like playing Hearts of Iron or Victoria II while using console commands. It makes it dreadfully easy and there's no sport in it.

Why would I nuke my slave labour? You must be as lackluster in imagination as an actual Ukrainian.

So anything else I need to address as Australia right away. Probably the UK needs to discuss stuff. I will be assuming since we were NPC we sent boots to Mesopotamia too I'd presume?

Thanks for the vote of confidence btw boo :* we'll send you the finest pipe tobacco money can buy.

How did the Egyptians even make it to Syria? Through Palestine I guess?

So there's nothing stopping the Russians from just invading the place? If it has no allies, how did it get indipendence to begin with? Homegrown revolts dont usually win without foreign assistance. . .

Are they currently at war?

How is any of that different from real world Ukraine, which also did not have allies (other than Russia ironically)

time to end these memes coming out of Kentucky.

Don't worry Kentucky, we know what's best for you.

I don't know what to tell you Knight. I feel as if you have this compulsion to "win" NGs. In past games, your posts seem to be about how your nation is always great, how it is always reforming, industrialising, or developing new technology and basically succeeding at everything.

When you see a situation you don't like (i.e. your nation is underdeveloped or subservient to another, etc.) you don't really seem to actually try to change it. Korea, for example, you say it's subservient to Tokyo and you don't like that. But why not take it and try to negotiate for a better position? An independent state that is allied to a more powerful nation is still an independent state.

In other words, if you don't like your situation, try to change it instead of complaining about it.

*idly contemplates getting involved in the Northern America clusterfuck, as is his right as a superpower*

Alas that Kentucky lacks a maritime border and is, therefore, not capable of acting as gracious hosts to a few warships of Her Majesty's Royal Navy.

Isn't the World Congress super new and at the cutting edge of international politics?

Since when have political opponents ever been held back by things like "facts" or "reality"?

The fact of the matter is that Nilson is a deeply unpopular politician whose seen as sitting on his ass and not "doing something" about the collapse of the Confederacy. On the other hand, Langdon is a savvy political operator who has managed to assemble a broad coalition in the House (the GOP might not agree with everything she's saying, but on the other hand yay relevancy!).

Nilson's ended up a bit more competent than I intended, instead of being the complete Yeltsin-like fuck up he's more of a combination of Jimmy Carter and HW Bush; a decent guy whose out of his depth, and compounding that by seeming out of touch and slow to react.
