She's smart, the update shows she's determined, her chakra control is perfect, and she's also one of the few current Genin that actually knows anything about illusions (such as how to dispel them). Not the most immediately practical and useful skills, it's true, but saying she has none isn't fair to her. Plus, getting in on the ground floor with her now (before she comes into her own) in terms of goodwill will have more impact than doing it later.
Honestly I don't get the whole "She only became a medic/Tsunade clone; she's useless"criticism, especially when Naruto doesn't get the same criticism.
Tsunade single-handedly saved most of Konoha's population from dying when they got nuked by an overclocked Deva!Pain
Jiraiya couldn't do it. Neither could Sarutobi. Naruto couldn't; see poor Neji.
That skillset is a literal war winner in it's own right; the ability to keep your ninja up and running regardless of war damage.
Then there's what canon Sakura actually did.
At 16, Sakura had saved the life of the brother of the Kazekage, a senior Suna jounin by neutralizing a poison a legendary ninja could do nothing about.
She then followed that up by tag-teaming an S-class ninja who was using a Kazekage bloodline user as a puppet.
And she mastered the Creation Rebirth technique.
Frankly, I WANT her as a combat medic; S-class medics are entirely too rare as things stand, and each is worth their weight in any precious material you choose. Giving her an early leg up in training will hopefully help.
She doesn't just "know anything" about Illusions. She (along with Shikamaru) was one of the only two rookie genin to notice and dispel Kabuto's Genjutsu (which as an A-rank jutsu is pretty nasty).
Three.
The third was Shino, who followed Team 7 and Shikamaru in their pursuit of Sasuke, and fought Kankuro there.
Coincidentally he was a student of the only genjutsu-primary jounin sensei in Konoha, and someone skilled enough to rate being called sensei by
Itachi. I suspect his two teammates would have seen through it as well, which would account for why Kabuto put them to sleep.
Besides his whimsical sense of mercy, of course.
