I'm going to poke your ideas with a stick! It's a pointy stick! Made from a pine tree branch! It is engraved with the tears of a thousand posters! Moving on:

a) I hope your not thinking this guy is the Captain of the Ship. Because it really sounds like he's just a Commander of Marines. Maybe not even all the shipboard marines, depending on how they do their tech-distribution and chain of command. Point is, this guy is almost certainly fairly dispensable in the grand scheme of things.
b) The Navigation Bridge isn't exactly right next door. While we're making progress on repelling boarders, there is still shit going down across the ship, so walking out of this room (and away from two very powerful UnisonBound) is probably less safe than standing next to these Dead ShipLords Walking. Because they're going to be very dead soon, one way or another.
c) Baiting the commander and company is very easy: Amanda just has to continue the living abomination against all that is holy that she apparently is. Go figure. (Actually, this is a sticky wicket for me, since it means that having an emotionally charged argument with the fanatic doesn't even get that as an excuse :p)
d) I have no idea if ganking them while their frozen like this is possible... but that's no reason not to try! Actually, now that I think of it, is their any reason to not have our buddies start offing them while we have an emotionally charged moment with the closest Amanda has ever seen to her opposite? HMMMM...

Proposed alteration to my previous favorite vote:

[]"Desecrator? I saw your ship! I saw what you did to my people! AND YOU CALL ME A DESECRATOR?"
-[]Murder them all. Righteously!

Ok, so the add-on may not be worded entirely seriously, but I think you get my intent!

2658 Also gives Amanda a bit more insight into what it was (and is) like to be one of the First.
Snowfire has already clarified that this nutcase isn't the Captain of the Ship. He is still a squad leader, probably a commando. I don't know Shiplord ranks, so I can't use his proper title.
The Navigation bridge shouldn't be too far away. I am hoping it isn't exactly next door, due to explosion risk. The Shiplords may have brought a bomb with them. I would.
I am fully in favour of ganking all the adds, it was just a matter of priority order.
Kill the mobile one first, because it is still a possible threat, then move our squishies out of harms way, then deal with the rest.

[X] I dare because it is humanity's gift. Like Prometheus before them; the dragons gave us fire. You state that we dare profane a gift. How dare you tell us what we should do with the last gift of those you murdered.

I have been persuaded by the power of BANDWAGON! The fact that it is an exceedingly small bandwagon just means that I'm going to chop wood to help make it bigger!

Snowfire recently said that ganking the adds is essentially an auto-action on the part of Lina, our part in that is getting out of the way so she has a chance to shoot the commander as well. If we start chatting, no matter what the reasoning, we're apparently in the line of fire.

Wait a sec, where did I do that? >.>
I mean, Vega identified him as someone in command, not the ship's Captain.
Loading Patrick Stewart voice files.
It was a while ago.

The bandwagon is too wordy for my taste. It also smacks of boasting. We want it talking, not Amanda. The less she actually says, the better. I also doubt the Shiplords would understand the Prometheus reference.

I posted while still reading the thread, so I didn't see the auto-gank ruling. Thank you for pointing it out.

[X] "You call me 'desecrator'? After bringing that abomination?"
[X] The leader might have a suicide bomb on him. Non-unisonbound should relocate to a more secure location ASAP if there is a clear path available.
-[X] Preferably the Navigation Bridge.

In fairness, he also didn't say that it wasn't the ships captain. He's basically playing mindgames with us, the sly dog. :p

2669
And I walked right into it. Hold on. He's playing with my mind? I lost that years ago! Snowy, give it back.
He found it, dusted it and put it back. So he can play.

Pretty much this. I'm also negotiating an option on your immortal soul, but that's a different business venture.

Hey, I was giving you full custody of two firstborn until they reached age of majority, with no penalty clauses if they 'just happened' to not make it there!

Anything more is highway robbery.
... I did notice that that offer was made after a certain cat of the female distinction went awol for a few weeks, conspiciously rounded when last seen.

And then show him the technical specs on Sidra why don't you? You don't show the Shiplord the output of our Practiced senses.

FFS. His good opinion of us does not matter. We don't have to verbally defend ourself or prove to it that we're right or make it sorry - nor can we. All that shit above can do is make it slightly easier for the next lot to beat us. Whichever of Amanda and the Captain utters more than a short question is betraying their species. It will not be moved by our outrage but it will take advantage which is why we try and outrage it so that it lets something slip.

You didn't read the fine print, did you. I specified that the firstborn would be of the human species, and that no transmutation magic would be involved. Also that they would be firstborn of two exclusive mothers.

MTB plz :p

Yes. I also noted your extensive language studies. 'Human'. Pffft.

Better we stand still, shut up and let it kill us than we say that.

Then come up with something of your own that's actually in character, that you like better and convince people to vote for it. I'll give you a hint silently ordering them killed isn't in character. Nor is openly goading them which is your current vote. The GM is willing to talk to you about your plans take advantage of it.

I had three different options and Snowfire said that was something that she would say in character, so I went with it. Find something better and I might switch.

One of the other's was for ignoring him and using Mend on the Ship, the other was reinforcing the bindings keeping them still. Talking to him won because it was responding to him which was in character.

As for getting information from him, Do you honestly think that going you can't tell us what to do because we made it, wouldn't piss him off to the point of maddened ranting. There entire thing is to come in and go that thing you just discovered yah you can't use it.

I hereby retract my suggestion of Explain. It DID feel a little too Dalek for my tastes when I posted it.

I don't like the "how dare you" response, because it doesn't feel like it would evoke us the response we're looking for. Even the variant that Snowfire said is a good balance still doesn't feel right.

I like Understand. I'm sincerely hoping that having the "mending bad communications" perspective on it allows us to synergize into an effect that would otherwise require an Insight-focused. High DC due to it still being fundamentally out of Focus, but if successful then the effects could be fantastic.

In the sense you use it, it mends a misunderstanding, derelict communication and conceptual differences.

Yes, I know that which is the bridge that I'm counting on to make it work, but it's still trying to evoke an out-of-Focus effect. Fortunately it's an orthogonal effect, not an antithetical one, so no subconscious piece of Amanda is going to rebel against it, but I don't expect it to be EASY.

Another suggestion: since our primary objective is survival until reinforcements arrive, why not work 100% within Amanda's focus and mend the energy shell that's holding the Shiplords?

I quite agree that it's Amanda's character to heal rather than harm and to speak honestly from the heart rather than manipulate and enrage. However, she is an intelligent adult who has chosen to go to war and knows the stakes. So I expect her to do what brings the most tactical and strategic advantage however uncomfortable she feels about it and to refrain from giving unnecessary intelligence to the enemy no matter how deep the urge to say more. She'll be an emotional mess when the battle is over but that's OK.

That said, using a Word in way so counter to her beliefs is foolish so I'm dropping Explain. Understand feels dangerous to me.

[x] Plan: Threat Management and Intelligence
[x] Have everyone else focus on taking down the one Shiplord that's still active, followed by any of the frozen subordinates that aren't ranting useful information at us. Then cover the captain.
[x] Overide to kill any that break free - or are about to if Amanda can tell.
[x] "Nonsense! What have I desecrated?" and keep goading as necessary.

[x] Plan: Secrets Unveiled?
[x] "I have done nothing but defend my people, but I don't know why we have to fight like this. I want to Understand. Why the tribute slaughter? Why the fleet games?" @Coda - thanks
[x] Vega handles the mobile, bridge crew dispatches the bound.

// Explanation: The word before the questions because, even if the SL doesn't answer vocally, after the word is spoken Amanda might still pick up something. @Snowfire - could an unisonbound Insight lend some support through the net?
Yes, that plan risks the lifes of all present on the bridge - not taking down the commander immediately is a risk. Talking to an SL and getting first-hand information in the face of a Potential - might be a one-in-a-lifetime chance.

// Comments? Improvements?

// Going to sleep.

[] "Nonsense! What have I desecrated?" and keep goading as necessary.

I'm pretty sure i'm not going to convince you to change your question but can I at least get you to drop the order's choosing who to shoot at.

Micromanaging the soldiers isn't the right move, as Lina said earlier in the story we are a civilian and not a soldier. Word of god is that they'll kill the bound ship lords automatically unless we order otherwise; but that we'll also need a roll to get the order out and not have it choke in our throat.

If you are going to shoot them anyway focusing on the people that can't move is more logical than trying to hit the one that can especially given they don't know when they'll unfreeze. The most logical move would be to have them target the two soldiers closest to them, and then switch fire to one of the frozen soldier's by Vega if we haven't gotten out of the way by then.

edit: keep goading as necessary feels both to open ended and dangerous to me.
