You knew not every knight held to their honor like Marywn and Arnold did. Your uncle was a knight after all, but you saw the sense in their words. People believed in stories about the knights and people trusted them because of those stories. If all acted like Arnold had, who would they trust to protect them?

There are three mistakes:
  1. Its How not Jow
  2. Who is Marywn?
  3. Surely you mean someone other than Arnold held to their honor?

Marwyn's one of the Vale knights we were talking to. Though it's mispelled as Marywn several times in the chapter. But yeah, that first Arnold should probably be referring to someone else.

Honestly, Gwayne and the Vale options seem a little similar. I guess Gwayne is maybe a bit more pragmatic and simply focused on keeping your promises rather than acting honorably in general? Hm. I'm not interested in going full ruthless westerosi noble though, so I can't advocate taking Tarly's advice.

This line seems interesting. Rhaenyra assumes it means Otto doesn't like that Daemon doesn't honor oaths, but "super concerned about oaths" is not an attitude I'd normally attribute to Otto Hightower. I think Gwayne might have been about to say that it's one of the reason his father finds Gwayne irksome, which would obviously not be something he can say in public.

Not really sure on oaths vs honor - OTOH oaths tends toward limiting our paladin-ness to things we actually swore without as much risk of mission creep. But honor might allow for more flexibility in discounting things that we did swear, as long as they're not honorable.

I mean you could absolutely not place a huge focus on oaths and still find Daemon's....everything really rather irksome.

Admittedly Gwayne does not understand his father as well as Alicent so he could be giving his father too much credit for why he dislikes Daemon.

I'm in a complete deadlock as to who's advice we take, because all are good advices in some way, shape or form. The judgement is obvious to me, though. Send those willing to the Wall, the rest fall to their deaths.

For me this is more Rhaenyra choosing to live by the words and values of her mother's house and people first than not choosing the other choices when the need arises.

Just a little speculation on what the advice means for us: does she jive more with duty, virtue ethics, or pragmatic ends meeting? The last option gives her the least direction, which is both good and bad.
