The Great Age of Piracy [One Piece]

SHIT! Not enough time to dodge! But I gotta do something! ANYTHING!!

Then unconsciously, I block the sword with my right arm! But......I don't bleed. Instead, It seems to have clanged against it.

...What.

Jumping back, Ryu observed as the Arm that blocked his sword gained a metallic tint.

"A devil fruit?!"

Uh-oh. I turn my arm back to normal flesh and start waving my hands at him.

"Nononononononononono! I just have tough skin!"

"Right...." He deadpanned before turning to Orphan and Via.

"So what do you both think?"

@Yuki no Yue @Luigilewis889

A second and I was down on the bridge near them again.

"It's obviously a Devil Fruit. On another note, your abilities in lying are atrocious, Damian."

I pondered for a bit what to do now.

"Very well, let's hear what Devil Fruit you have. I have a bit of knowledge about it, so I can help."

I watched expectantly the newbie.

"Well? Spill."

Well, cat's out of the bag. Might as well show them.

I then sigh and willingly show my DF ability.

"Arm Blades!"

My two arms then go metallic. Also two blades come out from the middle of them both.
"I don't know the name, but it turns my arms into steel. And it looks like I can make my steel into weapons. But it also makes for pretty good armor."

The Blades go back into my arms and the Metal stays.

"There you go. What's the verdict on the fruit's name, Ryu?"

Bauer panted as he sprinted to his crew, the bruise from the lieutenant commander covering most of his cheek.

"Boys, boys we gotta get out of here! I got in a tussle with a marine, they're gonna want our heads. Damned if it didn't feel down taking him a down a peg, though!" Eric took a moment to smile as he remembered launching Brock into a wall. "But either way we gotta go. You guys snatch anything good during all that?"
With his Captain's arrival Vincent rose from the pile of fish like a monster from a old horror show, although he looked more than a little annoyed at having to brush a few smaller fish from his shoulders, although curiously the Crow he had met earlier was more concerned with roosting on his shoulder than the pile of food.

"Just a Bow and a bomb happy marine's coat, it's pretty well stocked but I'll need to look through it to find out exactly what types of explosives these are." he said boarding their ship "Now if you'll excuse me I have a shoulder wound to fix."

"CAW!!"

"Oh and it looks like a Spirit wants to tag along with us." the hunter said, idly wondering if the bird held the spirit of anyone the hunter knew...or granted mercy to, for some reason it seemed familiar.

"Not a problem. Gotta chase scurvy away, plus alchol is good breaking down most poisons."

Plus it was tasty, even if the Ensign was refusing his offer of a polite drink. Leo didn't really care that much, considering it meant there would be more for him and less spent on resupply, but he had it wobble in front of their face anyway. He himself had drunk just enough so he stopped drinking, mostly because he would need some for after the sawbones got their hands on him. Plus landing would be potentially fun with no hands for fine control and two other people on the couch.

Tabun had a small chuckle as the bottle remained unattended even as Leo had it wabble in Laurent's face. (@Camellia )

"Which medical center do you think would be best"

"We're not in any critical danger. The poison would wear off over time even if we did nothing. Let's return to the main base. The infirmary should be enough." He took another swig, "I'd wager Lieutenant Commander Brock is there too. We can report in after we've been tended to."

Tabun glanced over to Laurent, then back to Leo. He contemplated something to himself, then decided to ask, "Something has me curious. Why did you two become marines?"

He snorted with no little amusement.

"Unfortunately the scum of the earth seem to be opposed to my dream. Not just pirates as well."

He'd noticed a slight slip up in words to do with their brother, but Tabun determined this wasn't the best time to ask. Perhaps later he'd bring it up again.

One had a very admirable reason for being here, the other...had a reason. "I suppose you're reasons aren't too far off from each other. As for me, I have no family within the Marines nor any left remaining." He kept a straight face, purposely not going into anymore detail than that. "My reason for signing up is simple. To kill pirates."

"Pirates, in and of themselves, are a blight on this planet. Of course I am aware that there are pirates out there that almost exclusively perform good deeds. But that does not excuse the existence of pirates, who often create the same problems other pirates solve. Eliminate every pirate and you purge not only the evil, but stop the seeds from growing again. End every pirate who inspires others and the same man that could be a pirate may instead be a farmer. Without pirates as a constant threat the Marines could focus on internal strife and do away with the scoundrels in our ranks that abuse their power. In a sense, you could say my enemy is not just pirates but the Age of Pirates itself." He took another drink, perhaps thinking it was influecing how much he was going on, but continued nonetheless, "In fact...if I were to get my hands on One Piece, whatever it is...I'd destroy it. And let all the pirates of the world watch."

That was his interpretation of "Justice". He waited to see the reactions from the other two, before he would pose yet another question to them.

It was at that exact moment that a Crow decided to land on Tabun's head and promptly decided that his hair looked delicious. "CAW!!" it said between pecks.

"GODDAMMIT!" Tabun howled, both annoyed at the crow and its horrible timing. This was meant to be serious, dammit! Not dealing with its BS, he took his pistol and shot it dead with a final "CAW" before the force of the bullet sent it flying off.

He kept the pistol in hand wih the intention to shoot any more crows on sight.

Laurent inclined their head in respect.

"An admirable ambition. I wish you all the luck in fulfilling it."

They didn't really have any feelings, positive or negative, for pirates or piracy in general. Marines hunted pirates, so that was what Laurent would do. Besides, they wouldn't know what they would do with themselves if they weren't a marine.

As for the One Piece...they didn't know if it actually existed. Personally, they didn't believe in it. They didn't understand it, the drive it instilled in the men who chased after it. But if they did come across it, Laurent didn't know what they would do. Give it to Lieutenant Cyclo to destroy?

Their musing was cut off by the timely interruption of a crow.

"My name is Shamgar, by the way."

Unless stopped, he will then continue on his way.
Choco unceremoniously crashes to the ground.
Not even wasting his time retorting the inept ramblings of the fat man before him the Lieutenant let his voice carry wide.

"MARINES! FIRE!"At the same time, the rumble of artillery would follow to send the enemy ships back to the depths. Surely some would clash, and both the outer structures and the docks would suffer damage, but taking out the riff-raff was far more worthwhile regardless. In an instant the Lieutenant was alight with a frenetic energy, and with a rapid spin red fur shot out in rapid succession into the solar plexuses of the three burly men behind the the man whom had unloaded the barrel of candy and now reached to apprehend Shamgar. In that instant they too were beset by a burst of powerful electricity, sending them slumping to the floor unconscious as the commanding officer let the power fade.

"I appreciate the support, bounty hunter," the Lieutenant spoke up, gesturing for Seaman Apprentice Hart to gather his cloak-sack with one hand as his other drew the weapon about his waist — a fairly large zweihänder with a simple handle, "But more importantly I'd rather have you travel to the hospital with Hart-Nitōhei. Most of my more seasoned Marines are there recuperating from a recent attack, and they'll be more use to us in the long run if they don't go and kill themselves needlessly. Warrant Officer Yi will run the alert to Marine HQ and rally our forces."

With that and a nod to the still-present privateer, the Taii raised his sword on high and called to his men.
"Marines! Aid the Rose-Eyed Pirates and remove the Gold Crown Pirates from our doorstep! Send these cowards packing!"

With one last look at the floundered captain the Lieutenant's blade flickered out and bluntly collided with his head as the electrical flow returned to his form, his tail bristling with disgust. "For every decent pirate with character, there's another sniveling degenerate looking to make mayhem and ruin."

Hakuyū (覇優)
Marine Lieutenant
Current Ranking Officer of Loguetown

Still alight with electricity rolling off of his fur, the Mink Taii charged with sword in hand towards the pirate flagship. Among the riffraff of the five-vessel fleet there was bound to be a bigger fish — perhaps even the Fishman himself, if memory served correctly.
The marines fire their own cannons with practiced discipline, unloading cannonballs into the air. Many of the marine's barrage bounce off the incoming cannonballs, sending both hunks of metal into the shining blue sea. Others miss both the cannonballs and the fleet, either coming up short or sailing too far into the horizon.

Others hit their targets. Two of the Gold Crown Pirate ships explode into chaos and fire, men screaming as they rush to abandon ship. All of the ships suffer at least a little damage - save the flagship, which is protected by a blur which knocks away any approaching cannonballs as if they were little more than paper.

Gold Crown cannonballs crash into the docks and surrounding buildings, but the damage is minimal. Most of the barrage was countered by the marines, or falls woefully short of their intended targets.

Hakuyu encounters little resistance charging the Gold Crown Flagship, but he can see Checkworth Callow standing on deck.

((Callow is a fishman, so he's 10 times as strong as the average human. His lure can send out debilitating flashes of light and his teeth are like short swords. In the water he's even stronger and faster than on land.))

With a hearty chuckle at his own statement, the self-proclaimed Shamgar dashed toward the nearest building. When he's near to the building, he crouches and leaps, his twin swords flashing through the air to hook onto a windowsill, somehow barely creasing the solid wood of the frame, before propelling him onto the rooftop.

From there, he'd track Seaman's Apprentice Hart on their way to the Hospital, keeping a sharp eye open for Pirates who might try to pull some kind of shenanigans.
Seaman Apprentice Hart guides Shamgar through the streets of Loguetown without much incident, but when they reach the hospital she pulls up short. A dozen Gold Crown Pirates stand on the roof of the building, manning three cannons. "Back up!" They shout at Hart and Shamgar. "This hospital belongs to the Gold Crowns! You want to get in, you have to get through us!"

"...I guess you're not the privateer recruiter," she said while smiling weakly.

No sooner did the words leave her mouth than her sword was in her hand, and she had slid into a ready stance. A faint breeze stirred the clothes of the fallen Marines.

"So, who are you?" she asked. "I can't just go and kill someone that I don't even know. It's not proper."
"I wouldn't worry about killing me," the woman says, her tone flat and emotionless. "I have seen my fate, and it does not end here today. My name is Candy Sloan, and I..."

Sloan begins to change as she talks, a chitinous exoskeleton stretching across her skin. A massive horn grows from her forehead, and an extra arm appears on each side of her body.

"Am a swordsman," she finishes. Her four arms each draw a sword, which she spins casually in her hands.

Lezard's daydreams were interrupted by the stalker lady. She rolled onto her stomach and faced Olivia, contemplating whether she should work now or later? Her thoughts drifted to her "farm" on deck. If there were bounties involved, her farm could always use an expansion.

"Ready and waiting. Who shall we hunt today, Big Sis," Lezard asked with a predatory smile. In her hands, the cat tensed. Lezard may look cute, but madness danced behind her eyes.
"Good work, Lezard. See those hostile ships foolishly firing on this town? There's our targets." Olivia stated the obvious as she exited the hull.

Looking at the progress her crewmate had done in her absence, Olivia moved to finished the rest. With the ship's preparation done, she walked up to the helm, commandeering the ship in the absence of her captain. Olivia set sail for her target, staying close to the shore as possible. The SOP Manual was opened on a book stand next to the ship's wheel. She briefly glanced to the contents of the book every so often, absorbing all the schemes and plans her Captain had written for a similar situation such as this.

The Rosey-Eyed Privateers crawl along the coast undetected for a little while, but as they draw closer to the action Olivia and Lezard are overcome with a strong sense of foreboding. Moments later something crashes into the bottom of the ship, hard enough to throw both the privateers off balance.

Looking over the side of the ship, Olivia and Lezard see a team of six fishman climbing up the side of the ship, sinking their powerful fingers directly in the wood to form makeshift handholds. Within moments, they'll be on deck.

"Oi! Stop that, ya git! Some of us are trying to do business."

The voice, deep and guttural, cut through Bam Bam's laughter like a hot knife through fresh butter. If he even deigned to look up from his work, the pirate would've seen a grey-skinned colossus standing in the center of the bank's lobby, standing well over eight feet tall and half naked. His abs were exposed to the lazy sunlight shining through the windows, and small nub-like tusks dominated his jawline.

All in all, it would've been a rather intimidating sight, if not for the picnic basket sitting at the figure's base feet.

But Bam Bam, so occupied with his work, probably didn't even notice the beast-like man.

But he almost assuredly did notice the sound of tearing metal as Barka ripped the bank's heavy oak door off its hinges and hurled it at his head.
The door soars through the air, tumbling across the room with a surprising amount of grace for a giant chunk of wood. Bam-Bam doesn't notice it until it crashes into the back of his skull, sending him straight to the floor.

For a moment, there's no movement, no sign that the pirate survived the assault. After all, who could have survived something like that?

And then, miraculously, he stirs. Bam-Bam struggles back to his feet, clutching at his head. "Bam-Bam head hurts!" He roars, his voice shaking the very foundations of the bank. "Bam-Bam smash tiny man with club!" (It should be noted, for posterity, that Bam-Bam is only about half as tall as Barka. His inability to properly compare sizes is a defining character trait.)

Bam-Bam grabs his club and begins to beat at the ground with it, the force of his strikes causing a miniature earthquake. "Bam-Bam smash! Bam-Bam smash!"

((Bam-Bam is stupid and slow, but remarkably tough and strong. Once he's locked onto a target, nothing can make him deviate.))

Skarf burst out from the water beneath a nearby pier, dripping water as he walked over to the breathing piece lulling in the water and pulled it out, airbag and weighing rock all.

"No. I avoided risks for the most part."

The Norscan leapt over the side of their ship, starting to ready it for sailing.

The cocking of pistols behind her told Luna that she was in trouble.

Well, no. Not trouble. What was that other word?

Luck. Luna was in luck.

Sweeping out, around, and up with her leg, faster than your average bullet and way faster than these dunderheads could think of firing, Luna flung sand into the three's eyes, witless, unwitting, and transferred momentum into a forwards dash.

Left one first -

- drive fist into sternum -

- shift around the back of the leader, pushing forwards, off-balance -

- knuckles to the jaw for righty -

- catch golden coin out of the air when he drops it -

- kick up left dude's pistol where he dropped it and catch it -

- and dude at the front regained his balance just in time to feel an unmistakable harbinger of cold metallic death press to his temple.

"Hola." Luna flipped her coin once, idly, and grinned almost friendly. "Wanna trade ships?"

Shamgar stands there on the rooftop, remarkably at ease for a man with so many guns pointed at himself, especially those cannons. Armor or no, surely he'd get hurt badly! So perhaps it surprised Seaman's Apprentice Hart when Shamgar's voice rang out, cold and clear as a bright morning day.

"Challenge Accepted. Apprentice Hart, please do watch my back, this shouldn't take long."

The three cannons fired, but Shamgar was already moving. He'd left the rooftop even as they lit off the big guns, his legs putting him farther than one might expect an armored man to fly into the air. His jump was just starting to curve down when he happened to meet one of the cannonballs in mid-air. He landed on it perfectly, his legs flexing as the projectile started to dip from the added weight...

When he lept off of the cannonball, somehow propelling himself even further (and incidentally driving the cannonball straight down to harmlessly slam into the street, while the other two had missed him entirely and skipped along a couple of rooftops before coming to a stop), such that he ended up landing directly on top of the cannon that had fired the shot. For a moment, he just stayed crouched there, head looking down such that his face was obscured, armor gleaming. The Golden Crown Pirates around him were frozen in shock.

Suddenly, his head snapped up, a not-quite-crazed grin on his face as he looked at the gunner in front of him (a short, stocky fellow who was suddenly very sweaty).

"Hi! Whatcha doin'?"
"Uh...."
"Takin' over the hospital?"
"Taking over the hospital?"
"Are ya?"
"...Yes?"

Shamgar's hands snapped up to his sword hilts, all mirth suddenly gone.

"Well then. By the powers invested in me as a Bounty Hunter of the World Government, as well as a concerned citizen observing some amoral ruffians trying to take over a house of healing, I hereby am passing your sentence."

*Sching* went the two hook swords that gleamed in the light.

"Citizens' arrest."

Suddenly Shamgar's foot was planted in the stocky gunner's face as he flipped over the man and landed in a crouch on the rooftop. He raced to one of the larger men, his swords hooking his feet and pulling them out from under him. The large pirate's head bounced off of the small wall at the edge of the rooftop, and he was pretty much out. Another two pirates had their necks hooked and then their heads slammed together, rendering them similarly unconscious.

Just as Stocky Gunner was regaining his wits, his head was again used as a springboard for Shamgar to deliver a flying kick to the face of another pirate, driving him into the left-most cannon, swinging its barrel around to be perpendicular to the other two. Coincidentally, it had already been loaded and primed. Shamgar glanced at the loaded gun, then the other two cannons, and back and forth a couple of times as the remaining 7 Pirates who had their wits about them (Stocky was dazedly blundering around the middle of the rooftop) panicked and tried to wave Shamgar off from the plan stirring in his mind.

"No no don't you don't know how to-"

"Hm, what if I pull this rope?"

*BOOM*

Now there was only one cannon on the-no, never mind, looks like Shamgar kicked its brake open and it went flying off the roof, while the other two cannons were disabled by dint of "cannonbal turning them into scrap". One of the Pirates had been too close, and was now on the opposite side of the roof, covered in soot, cuts, and bruises, out like a light. Now only 6 Pirates, plus Stocky, were up. Shamgar twirled his swords in a dramatic flourish.

"Maybe if you all came at once?"

A half-dozen cutlasses were drawn, a half-dozen sets of lungs let out cries, and a single swordsman just smirked. He raced forward, his form almost blurring. The first pirate had his cutlass hooked and drawn down until its point dragged in the rooftop, while a sword slashed him thrice upon the chest (relieving him of his bandoleers and a little bit of blood), before a rising kick drove him backward.

Two more were met blade-for-blade, their swords being moved around in circles before being flung skyward. The man on Shamgar's left was hooked at the neck and wrist and slammed into the man at Shamgar's right (face-first, naturally), dazing them both long enough for Shamgar to hook some nearby rope to himself, gift-wrap them, and slam them down onto the roof, where the two swords just happened to land such that their edges were right against the necks of the two men, discouraging them from trying to wriggle their way up (what with their bodies being tied up and together shoulder to knee).

"Don't break eye contact, that'd just make it weird guys!"

Shamgar slammed the flats of his blades onto the sides of another Gold Crown's head, dazing him long enough for a rising knee kick to drive him backward, sans a couple of teeth, onto the roof. The last three Pirates (Stock had finally regained his wits) were all dual-wielding (having gathered a couple extra swords) and standing back-to-back.

"Ha! Now you can't sneak up on us or anyting tricky! Just sword-fighting, and it's three on one! As soon as you start fighting one of us, the other two can gang up on you!"

Man, Stocky sure was confident! Shamgar reached up and tilted back his hat a bit, wiping a light sheen of sweat from his brow.

"Well, you guys do seem pretty tough, and maybe I'm getting a bit tired. Or maybe not? What to do, what to do..."

And then he was standing next to Stocky, one arm across the man's shoulders like they were drinking buddies.

"I think I'll just beat you senseless for attacking a ************* hospital."

Then one of his hooks was around each of the taller Pirates' necks, while he jumped up just enough to kick their knees enough to destabilize them. He pulled down, the men's necks staying intact only because the inside of his swords' hooks were dull. Instead, they were "just" choked all the way to slamming face-first into the ground. Crunch crunch, groan groan, down go the Pirates.

"And then there was one. So, tell me, buddy, do you feel lucky?"
"Y....yes?"
"Wrong answer."

Shamgar's swords disamred Stocky, cut away his bandoleers, bloodied his chest, tattered his loose shirt, and deprived him of a belt (leaving him showing the world his cutesty-cat boxers), before Shamgar just sheathed his swords on his back and one-two punched the man into unconsciousness.

Surveying the rooftop, littered with groaning and unconscious Pirates, Shamgar dusted his hands, walked up to the edge of the rooftop and onto the small wall/railing, and casually stepped off, dropping all the way to the ground where he landed unhurt in a crouch, before looking around for Apprentice Hart.

"It sounds pretty useful. But you can transform only the arms? The rest of your body?"

I asked, curious.

From what I knew, he have a Paramecia Fruit, but I don't know what specifically.

Loguetown
East Blue
Approaching The Docks

Rain hung horizontally off the side of her racer, heels braced against the outrigger and inches from disappearing into the water, held up with nothing but the rope keeping its massive sails steering her the right way. Rushing wind and water were all she occupied herself with, as was the familiar weight of her hair blowing in it, weighed down by decorations and pins that made her head glitter in the sun like she had a halo.

Everything was going swimmingly, and she was right on course. Rumors about the Grand Line and the most up-to-date reading material she could grab kept mentioning Loguetown, and it was there she decided to head. Her speedy skiff made great time there, and she could make out the island and docks coming up to greet her...

...along with ships. Quite a few. Tall ones, and smoke...wait, was that the sound of explosions?

She needed to change course, and fast.

Her speed started working against her as she tried to gather herself up in a panic. The ropes groaned and the racer creaked under the stress of making a sudden, wide turn as she barely missed a ship and could make out -

Oh shoot, that was an explosion!

Rain looked back, then around herself as she tried to skirt the docks, save herself, and her racer. The sounds of fighting were still close, drowned out only by her panicked, unintelligible wailing. She had to tie up fast!

"Never tried it, but hey, first time for everything I guess."

I close my eyes and focus on my legs. 'I swear if I lose control and lose a leg......'
SHINK!
My legs turn into metal! And have blades sticking out!

"YES! Ha-Ha! Damian 'Steel Body' Demiana is now a thing!"

"Revenge isn't Justice, and not all people are Pirates by choice. For many, various factors have left them no other choice. All should be treated and judged equally, not just because they happen to sail under a flag or wear a white coat. "

It was a dangerous line of thinking, one that the crow clearly decided to disagree with. Either way, he turned the chair to towards the headquarters, and pointed to show they were almost there.

Via briefly looked like she was considering smelting something out of the Devil Fruit user, but shook her head, giving him a thumbs up. "Awesome!"

"Hmph." Tabun may have disagreed with the Lieutenant's words...but he didn't dislike them. "Seems he has a softer heart than I. I can't say he's wrong, but my way is the only way to be ultimately sure, for a purpose that serves an even higher Justice than that of the few less fortunate pirates. It's the only Justice I know, after all."

He spotted the headquarters and reclined back, relaxing himself more for what he expected to be a smooth descent. "I know what you mean. It's not just about revenge. I'm thinking of the future." He glanced to both of them once more, "So perhaps you could help keep me in line and ensure my Justice is fair, Lieutenant Drake. And you Ensign Laurent, could be an invaluable comrade. So, how about joining up with me as crewmates? We work together, as equals, and help each other's load. I know I'll need the help. So what about you two?"

He'd posed the question with a hint of embarrassment. He'd never considered joining up with others before today. But now he felt he'd truly need their assistance in the days to come so it was worth it to at least ask.

"Good. Now you can use the legs in your attacks. Now, let's see how good you are at something else: Lying. Tell me a lie. Any one will do."

I mused for a moment.

"For example, are you related to the Demiana Marines?"

Mushi Mushi no Mi: Model Rhinoceros Beetle

((Sloan is fast and precise with her movements, almost graceful. She can defend with two swords while attacking with the other two, a perfect balance of attack and defense.))
Mary merely nodded after witnessing Sloan's rather unnerving transformation, and her eyes took on a steely quality. "I, Mary O' Donnell, must respectfully disagree. I believe in no fate, save what path we choose for ourselves, so 'seeing' one's fate means nothing to me. But I doubt you're here to discuss philosophy."

Despite her flippant words, Mary's thoughts were more subdued. Four swords to my one, and that's without any tricks that Devil Fruit is affording her beyond that horn. Going by the sensei's lessons, that thin body of hers suggests speed and possibly precision as well, which doesn't help matters. I'll need to pin her down now, before she can get up to speed!

Without warning, she violently swung her sword in a downward diagonal direction, and the air within the lobby shifted, with Sloan being subjected to a sudden harsh gale pushing her to the right. Which was odd, since they weren't close to any windows or other openings that could admit any sort of wind from that direction.

At the same time, Mary propelled herself forwards far quicker than anyone with her build had any right moving, her sword arcing upwards into a strike aimed at her upper left arm.

"Now! Prove to me the truth in your words!" she shouted. "Gale Prominence Style: Crosswind!"
