The Galaxy is Flood, Not Food

Had a ton of fun writing this one. I know this one is kind of short, but I hope the fight scenes were good enough to distract from that. Next chapter is looking to be a longer one.
Was finish checking this video analyze on fighting animation, then I noticed this new chapter here and oh boy, you pull the fight scene to near maximum of potential and cool factor there with great technical fight aspect, too ! You done a great job in it and I can say it in my top 5 fiction that write action well here
p/s: Wait, if the mc can combine tech and bio aspect then he can nearly pull a fighting style like this character here !

Omake: Come in From the Cold (AKA A quick deployment into the Ghoul Stars. In and out.)

Until All feel the Emperor's Warmth!

Such a strange saying to think of in these times. Not even our chapter's vaunted battle cry could do much to warm him.

C-cold. It is so Cold.

Things all started going to the Warp over what used to be Benumbia-382. When our Battle Barge was lost. Our small escort didn't learn what the Chapter was fighting even after it was all over.

The Emperor's Hearth. Our home. Our Warmth. Gone.

He wished it completely destroyed. Better consigned to the Cold of oblivion than perverted by whatever was on that blasted wasteland of a planet once it was extinguished.

So Cold. The Hearth was supposed to keep us warm. What now?

Our navigator was forced to make a blind jump. The screams and what was left after we hacked through the ice blocking the door will haunt him.

I am supposed to know no fear. I am not supposed to be so Cold. I am sc- don't want to be Cold.

Serfs are all long since gone. Our last librarian is trying to steer our ship out of the Warp. We have chosen to halt further amputations and granting him the Emperor's Peace until the task is done.

Emperor where is Your light? Where is Your warmth? It is Cold. We can't find Your Astronomican.

Something is wrong with us. Our Sus-An Membrane is wrong. One cycle a brother starts feeling chills. The next they are frozen over. No chemicals or hypnosis will cause them to wake.

Belephon looked so Cold. The ice was sprouting from inside him. Shards of ice penetrating through his armor.

Our Apothecary has locked himself into his Apothecarion. Last brother to try and coax him out took a Carnifex through his eye.

He smiled so wide when I finished my implantation. He used to be so warm. Now I can only see the Cold in his eyes. When did he get so Cold?

We only have some Mk Vs and Mk IIIs of power armor left. Even those are staring to fall apart as the patch jobs are failing. No one is left who knows the proper maintenance rituals.

Our last techmarine got so Cold. He laid himself down into his forge searching for warmth. He was mostly machine, he should have been used to the Cold.

We are gathering to the plasma reactors. We are pumping the life support as hard as we can, but it is still Cold. The metal looks like it is steaming but we cannot feel any warmth.

At least it will be one more hearth with my brothers. what songs should we sing as we all succumb to the Cold?

Emperor, anyone? If you can hear my prayers. Save my brothers from the Cold. Let them feel warmth, any warmth, once again.

Metal. But if the assassinorum are this overpowered, why aren't they mass produced over Astartes?

A single assassin has a cost that can be measured in planets, similar to Custodes. Space Marines are also designed to be a lot more producible with geneseed. Finally, assassins are, fundamentally, assassins and not soldiers. Their training is hyper specialized towards their niches.

So nothing that is any sort of problem for Tide, then.

Oooooh boy the Cultists are going to have a bad time.

Augmentations for assassins include genetic, but also chemical and mechanical alterations that utilize highly advanced tech, even for 40k's setting. I mean the sort of augments that make space marines in power armor look like a slow-moving ogryn in carapace. Not the kind of things even Tide is able to replicate all that easily.

That said, I'm not saying he won't get anything from them.

Also! My first instincts were right! It was a Culexus piloting the craft! I managed to talk myself out of the correct answer!

Makes sense now it's confirmed the couple are both Blanks, for some reason I had it in my head that at least one of them was a mutant of some sort.
Kid's a Pariah, and they're probably rare and valuable enough to send a full team out if you think getting another is a done deal, and I suppose that a Culexus isn't going to harm the potential formation of another Pariah.

Still, some handlers in the Temples are going to be freaking out when it becomes apparent that full team of Assassins has gone missing.

The quartermaster that assigned this team only a Valkyrie with zero support for extraction is getting assigned to the Culexus Temple. They needed way more extraction support if they were ever getting away from Tide.

Then again, they didn't know Tide was going to be there. However, blame has to be properly assigned somewhere and the vehicle was an obviously pinned point of failure.

Actually, what happened to the ship the Assassins was supposed to rendezvous with? A Valkyrie can't get out of the system as it doesn't have a warp engine. Is there a Black Ship or some other covert vessel hiding in this system waiting to pick them up?

Given that Tide is actively trying to save the soul of a Beastman, one who was already horribly Warp mutated I don't think that's a valid argument, not for Tide at least. He'll try to save the Eversor.

From how I understand it, of all the Assassins, the Eversor's have it the worst. With the Beastman, he has formative memories, a personality, and history before he fell into chaos worship. There are things in that mind that Tide can work with to convince them to turn back to sanity.

But an Eversor? I think they're trained pretty early on so their formative memories and history are just of training and indoctrination. They're kept in stasis between missions to prevent them from going on killing without restraint. They pretty much don't know anything beyond "kill" and aren't really given the opportunity to learn of anything besides "kill". It's not a big exaggeration to say that an Eversor is literally a biological terror machine built out of a human mind and body.

I would buy it if Tide tried, mind. But I just legitimately think that the Eversor's one of the things in 40K that you can't save because there isn't much in there to save.

All of those got consumed by Khorne and his blessings.

I'll be honest. Saving an Eversor is more feasible for Tide than it is to save someone chaos-infected. Especially since with the 3 other Assassins disabled, he'd have access to their means of disabling the Eversor too.

Tide currently has the means and the abilities to disable the Eversor's insane implants with his flood and send the crazed drug addict maniac onto therapy.

I feel like him not trying, and not succeeding with helping the Eversor would be stupid when he managed to heal the soul of the Beastman and pluck him out of Khorne's grasp.

I feel like him not trying, and not succeeding with helping the Eversor would be stupid when he managed to heal the soul of the Beastman and pluck him out of Khorne's grasp.

I'll once again restate that I think Tide should try. I would think it would be, in fact, weird for him to not try at all. What I'm saying is that, from my personal perspective, I'm not sure what there is to help/save in the Eversor.

Tide currently has the means and the abilities to disable the Eversor's insane implants with his flood and send the crazed drug addict maniac onto therapy.

To put it into how I see it, we can consider Kalak the Beastman as a statue. When Khrone took hold of him, it ripped out and damaged chunks of the statue but we can tell there was something there. We can kinda piece together what was supposed to be there, what the original looked. From that impression, the original can be restored into what it used to be. There is something there to fix and heal.

In contrast, the Eversor is just a big blank adamantium block with the words "KILL THE HERETIC, TRAITOR, XENO, WITCH" bolted onto it. Yes, you can file off the words with time. But then you're simply left with a big blank adamantium block. You can turn that block into something else, true. You can coat it with paint or forge it into something new; but that is not necessarily fixing or healing. You're making something brand new out of what's available.

The Eversor Temple is explicitly the worst about what they do to their trainees because, as far as I can tell, they go as far as possible to prevent any sort of real personality from ever developing in an Eversor. In fact, any deviation from expected performance specs seems to get them dunked into permastasis and reserved for use as a one way weapons.

Even if we just read the text as is, we can see that there isn't really much of anything happening in the Eversor's section. Where all the other assassins have opinions on the situation at hand, and are shown to be trying to think of ways to escape; we don't really see any of that in the Eversor. It's all descriptive of what they're experiencing. The closest we get to even a hint of a person being there are two cries of glee/laughter, and we don't even get a confirmation on whether it does so because they are enjoying the combat or if the laughter and cries are just an automatic physical response to murder.

As said, I don't think Tide shouldn't try. I just think there is a difference in the type of difficulty between restoring someone whose been taken by Chaos, and some real 'Ship of Theseus' scenario with building a brand new person out of an Eversor. Either way, I'm interested in seeing how the Author decides to proceed with it, as well as their interpretation of how much or little of a person is in an Eversor.

There wasn't any of that in the Beastman either.

Tide legit had to ship of Theseus the Beastman's soul because some part of it was replaced with Chaos stuff.

Just binge read this whole thing recently, and can't wait for the next chapter.

Tide legit had to ship of Theseus the Beastman's soul because some part of it was replaced with Chaos stuff.

Point of order. He hasn't figured out how to remove the chaos corruption yet. He tried, and the soul started leaking. When he tried to plug it the corruption regrew.

Oooh those Assassins will make a fine addition to Tide's biomass collection.

Tide doesn't actually need biomass. Being on a Hive world and just letting people die from natural causes is enough.

The largest thing he gets from the assasin's is skills. From the standpoint of everything else, the Blanks are more useful. Especially if it turns out they have a range of a decent chunk of a Hive city! However, Tide isn't going to force them to do anything.

Excluding the skill gain, the Blanks are

Adeptus Mechanius Analysis: M808D Scorpion Tank

Greetings, this data packet is to be given to relevant military officials, Mechanicum Adepts and those of sufficient Imperial ranking. Any unauthorized data leaks will be punished with Servitorization.

This data packet will be a in depth analysis of the weapon system used by the 'First' what they have named the 'Scorpion Tank'.

To begin the Scorpion is a 66 ton armored vehicle that follow what we in the Imperium and the Mechanicus consider a tank, a heavy armed and armored vehicle designed to provide fire support and to destroy other armored enemies and fortifications. To this end, the vehicle fits the in the 'tank' categorize firmly.

The design however, does break the mold on what we in the Imperium on what we consider 'common' tank design. firstly using a uncommonly used quad track design and equipping its turret on the rear of the platform, giving it its look that gives it it namesake. However it is not the look of the tank that makes this vehicle a particular interest to us and the Imperium, but a number of its features and history.

First is its weapon system, whilst commonly equipped with either a 90mm auto-loading cannon or a las-cannon. This can quickly change, you see this tank has a very interesting feature that allows its cannon to be changed quite rapidly only requiring a small crew of enginseers equivalents to do so (and from our understanding, sometime only one is needed if given the right tools). This has allowed a larger number of variants to be used including AAA, Missile carriers and even plasma. This versatility is shocking to many a commander in the field as they could have a report saying that they fighting two scorpions of the 'stinger' verity (90mm cannon equipped) and call for prepare air support only for it to fail because one of them changed to its 'Sun Devil' (AAA) systems before the battle, nightmare for battle planning. It is also of note that the Scorpion is considered 'easy to repair and replace' by the First with its treads, Cannon and even its main body being able to be replaced if damaged. to quote the strangest of quotes from the major xeno's intelligence known as tide, 'it's Lego for tanks' we have no idea what a leg-o is but we believe its meant to describe it ease of manufacturer and repair.

Second interesting fact of this tank is that it only needs one pilot to use fully. Unlike our own Tank systems that needs at least a crew of three to operate at minimum, the Scorpion need only a single pilot to operate. With the pilot using a neural interface the user is able to drive and shoot the tanks weapons with no detriment to the machines performance, nor to the users surprisingly. This gives the First a shocking amount of manpower-to-armor ratio when on the field, so much so that a number of organizations have started to capture their own scorpions for use. Which leads to the final subject of analysis, it history.

When the first scorpions were captured or recovered, we were allowed to study its machine spirit and in doing so we learn the age of the machines design. The machines origin is that of 3rd millennium, to be more specific the 23rd century, making it the oldest know tank used by humanity. As the Scorpion's machine spirit allowed us to learn its history, designed after what was called the 'Interplanetary War' for a tank that was easy to transport in space in a age where space travel was difficult, the design was used for hundreds of year after its development. Surviving where many other designs were dropped for being either too expensive for humanity to use, or too old for it purpose. The Scorpion survived thanks to it ease of modification and later cheap nature to manufacturer. Although the spirits refuses to tell us when the design stopped being used, as it seems to be blow to its collective pride.

This tank has been sanctioned by the Adeptus Mechanicus as 'facta per hominem' and thus, is legal for the Imperium and Mechanicus to use and manufacture. Omnissiah has blessed this machine!

Data packet End:... [God-Emperor protects]
Peoples thoughts? A couple of people asked about how'd the Imperium would react to halo weapons and other things so made this little thing for fun. And before people say that the Scorpion is a bad design remember that the Leman Russ tank is basically a MK4 with a turret and other vehicles are just as bad if not more impractical, let's not bicker about tanks and have fun!

Adeptus Mechanius Analysis: Type-25 Plasma Rifle

Greetings, this data packet is to be given to relevant military officials, Mechanicum Adepts and those of sufficient Imperial ranking. Any unauthorized data leaks will be punished with Servitorization.

This data packet will be a in depth analysis of the weapon system used by the 'Covenant path', the weapon in question has been designated the 'Type-25 plasma rifle'.

The Type-25 or as the Covenant path like to call it the 'Okarda'phaa-pattern plasma rifle' is a plasma based energy weapon of xenos origin, but is also believed to of been used by our ancient ancestors long ago if the Paths are to be history is to be believed. Said to of been used and created by the Sanghelili xenos, the paths say that humanity were given these weapons as part of a old military alliance and in doing so, introduced plasma based weapons into humanities early arsenal. It is unknown if this Heresy is true or not but what we do know is that this weapon is the standard issue primary armament of choose for the Covenant path.

The weapons capabilities are similar to the Tau's pulse weaponry in terms of firepower, however there are three primary differences between their weapons and the Covenants. First is that of the Covenants fire rates, the Type-25 and many other Covenant weapons fire much faster that the Tau's. Second is that although faster firing, they are shorter range for the most part. And thirdly they over heat unlike the Tau's pulse weapons, require venting to prevent damage to the weapon. It should be noted that a number of copies and Tau derivatives have been observed after the 'Farsight accords', a campaign of attempted conquest by the greater Tau empire of the 'Farsight Enclaves' after a alliance had been struck between the Tau off shoot, the Paths and the Flood. A number of these copies have been used in city fighting and in boarding actions by the Tau.

The plasma rifle's capacity to damage and destroy many of the Imperium's infantry armor systems have been noted with the weapon destroying standard carapace armor with a single shot and more often than not, breaching the integrity of Astarte's power armor with a simple burst from its forked projector. Such a weapon should bring fear to our more standard and common troops, however many in our armed and holy forces have seemed to gained a interest in acquiring these weapons as 'trophies'. And as such has had many a commissar and Sargent reprimand and even execute a number of guardsmen whom would use the weapon, it is asked that any guardsman that gains access to these weapons ask their betters and the attached techpriest first before trying to retrieve one. And that it is given to said techpriest to be decommissioned into a trophy.

The Type-25, although suspected to of been used by our ancestors. have been classified as 'Xeno's Facta' (translation: Alien made) and thus is punishable if used. The Omnissiah has deemed it so.

Data packet End:... [God-Emperor protects]
Haven't written one of these in a while. thought it be fun to do so.

Inquisition Data Packet =][=: Ordo of origin: Ordos Hereticus...Subject: Children of the Mantle/Flood ...Authorization Alpha: Access Allowed

Ordo Hereticus Analysis: Mantle and Flood Worship

This document has been made to assist our agents understand the new rising threat in the Imperium, and in this case beyond.

As of this moment there have been increasing numbers of cases of Heresy, although thankfully not in worship of the Great Enemy or the Devouring Tyranids. No, these new heresy's are that of a new variety and are thankfully more often than not less malicious but no less a threat to the Imperium. This threat? It is Mantle and/or Flood worship.

Section 1: Mantle Worship

Mantle Worship is paradoxically the easiest and hardest to deal with, as it is all dependent of a number of factors. Firstly is that a number of Mantle Worshipers also still worship the God-Emperor, with their beliefs being more of a practice issue. Many of these style of Worshipers believe that the Emperor had done the Great Crusade and forced the Imperial Truth to attempt to enforce the mantle in a Galaxy overran with chaos, they have been known to describe the God-Emperors actions in the crusades and before his internement to the Golden Throne as the 'Sweetest Tragedy'. It should be noted that the word 'sweet' and other words like it are used as describers for pains and tragedy's that are necessary in their living universe belief. These Worshiper whom are often called 'the Silent' for their more often than not 'quite' beliefs are more often then not, not a problem to anyone but the most zealous and orthodox of the Imperial Cult. Even then though there has been a growing number in the Cult that have picked up a number of beliefs of the Mantle, primarily that of Humanity's grand duty of the 'Inheritors' belief. much to many a zealots dismay.

Which leads us second most popular of Mantle Worship, the Inheritors.

The Inheritors follow beliefs closer to the old Imperial Truth beliefs, believing that our God-Emperor is not a God at all but a man that has reached the final evolution of mankind. This put them in contempt with the Imperial Cult more often then not, but their beliefs in Humanities right place as the rightful rulers of the Galaxy has let them be accepted amongst the Imperial populous. Their beliefs whilst not technically illegal in Imperium law thanks to the Emperors decree, is very much frowned upon. So much so that there are reports of Inheritor enclaves forming to protect themselves from Zealots and persecutors, it has also been noted that there has been a increase of Astarte's aspirants recruited from these enclaves. Primarily from Astarte's chapters that still follow the Imperial Truth.

Inheritor groups and Astartes chapters that recruit from them are to be monitored, as the possibility of renegades have increased from friction between Inheritor beliefs and the Imperium's wider spread Emperor worship.

The third of the most common form of Mantle worship is perhaps the most dangerous and Heretical, that of the 'Purists'. The Purists do not follow Imperial conventions, do not let their name fool you. They follow a form of belief that closely follow precursor history, primarily that of the Warps twisted origins and that of the Bitter Whispers. And thus have a hate for all things related to the Warp, so much so that they openly decry the Emperor. As you can guess these worshiper does not get the benefit of the doubt and are hunted down when discovered ruthlessly. However they are just ruthless with their action as they have been know to assassinate Navigators, attempt to destroy Warp engine manufactoriums and kidnap Blanks. The assassinations of psykers and the destruction of Warp related material makes sence when you look at their beliefs, but the kidnap of Blanks are more...insidious. Their beliefs make it so that people that carry the 'Pariah gene' are very much desired, so much so that they try to spread the genes with or without the carriers permission. This can either let the Blank have a good level of power and privilege in the Purists cult, or suffer a fate that this one wouldn't wish upon his fellow human. It is unsurprising that Purist groups are the least respected and/or liked amongst the Flood and Mantle worshiping groups, with many distancing themselves from them whenever possible.

Section 2: Flood Worship

Flood Worship is separate, but linked to Mantle Worship as one can Worship the Mantle without worshiping the Flood but one can't worship the Flood without also Worshiping the Mantle. Making it so that there is a fair amount of overlap in their beliefs. But Flood Worship more often than not has more radical beliefs, and I don't just mean their worship of the Xenos race.

The first group that should be mentioned are the fathers of the 'Children of the Mantle', a group of specialized Flood Worshipers called 'The Enlightened'. These Enlightened purposefully allow themselves to become infected to try and gain audience with the believed Flood intelligence called 'Tide'. After doing so a number of these worshipers gain access to what they call 'Ancestral Echos', supposed memories of our ancestors past. The Enlightened use these not only use these 'Echos' to tell the stories of the past, but also use them to create technology once lost to us. Many of the Mantle's and Floods worshipers respect this group, either openly or privately. They are however considered to the wider Imperium to to be traitors and renegades, and dangerous ones as well. Not much is known about this group other then what they want the public to know. But what we do know is that when one is found it is often a sign of a Flood infection about to happen, or is currently happening.

The second group are called the 'Seekers of Injustice', the Seekers are less of a single group and more of a of a collective of people that follow similar beliefs. Seekers are more often than not people whom infect themselves or originate from Flood infested worlds that seek out 'corrupt' worlds for the Flood to spread to. More often than not they are singular agents that travel from world-to-world looking for any quote-unquote 'injustices' done to the populous, if the world has done not or is 'minor' the world is either left to it's own devices or has a faction from the Children come to them to deal with the issues. However if the World is deem 'Corrupt' than the Seeker will use his connection to the Flood to tell them of the world. This will mean that either a Flood force with come for the world, or that the Seeker will sacrifice their body to start a infection process. The Seekers thanks to their nature are difficult to find and are deemed a major threat.

The third and final group for this analysis are called 'The Nihilists', the Nihilists are often found fighting along side with the Flood openly and are more often then not Zealous in their beliefs. Nihilist believe that Humanity in its current state can't inherit the Mantle and must repent of many of its actions in the last ten thousand years, and thus give themselves to the Flood willingly for combat infection. These Zealots often throw themselves at their enemies with reckless abandon so that if they fail their bodies maybe used to further the Floods goals, they often care for nothing of themselves and will do anything in their power to complete their goal. The irony is, is that many of these Nihilists often practice many forms of art before they throw themselves onto the field with many saying 'how can I die for Humanity if I don't know what it means to be human?' many Flood worshipers say that 'the Tide' weeps for them, with them supposedly saying that 'the sweetness of their sacrifice shall be remembered in the gave we all shall share'.

Worship of the Mantle is growing daily, and so is the worship of the Flood. The Inquisition needs to curtail this quickly before the damage done become too much.
