Remind me again what introject means?
Article:
to incorporate (attitudes or ideas) into one's personality unconsciously
I strongly suspect that in this case, "introject" might also do duty as a special jargon among plural people.
Yep. In this case, an introject is an alter that is modelled on, and believes they are, a person the system interacts with. In particular, Athena's been preparing for the possibility of Liv developing a kind of recursive alter of Athena actually running on her wetware, though she believes this possibility has become less likely the more they smush together brainways.

Important question.
Can we stack overflow Liv's brain by running too many copies of her personality in there?

Almost certain that Sanderson wasn't actually trying to write the massive amount of subtext in RoW. He's just really bad at not adding UST to women admiring/respecting/looking up to other women. Shallan was not originally planned to be bi then some fans grabbed him and pointed out that he wrote her with a massive thing for Jasnah.
Didn't notice that one, in part because I'm not sure Shallan was aware it was possible? There's not a lot of difference between admiration-when-you-know-attraction-is-possible and just straight-up attraction, really. But once Veil was openly bi, it should have been on Navani's mind.
Also, like, seduce-the-occupying-warlord is enough of a standard dynamic that it should probably have been obvious even just from that angle.
...Maybe the problem is that Sanderson still thinks of sexuality as expert knowledge which he doesn't have the right to personal revelation on. That would, in fact, explain things. Hm.
Relatedly, do you know a good place to find fans such as ourselves? Not super keen on 17th Shard.
Also re: this chapter:
of course Athena would be prepared for the system getting an Introject, because of course.
We blame May
Was this a guess that Athena was worried about thoughtbubble-May breaking containment and grabbing the steering wheel, or something else?

I'm not sure, but I have to say, it would not surprise me if that was one of the things Athena has contingency plans for. Probably even has folders* on how to handle Nat, Clint, Justine, and working on one for Loki.

* I am assuming she doesn't have access to themed lunchboxes, after all

No, it was a joke about watching too much Anime (together with May), and the system thus getting an introject based on someone from said anime.

Also, to explain terms (even though @open_sketch has already done so):
"Introjection" is indeed the term used to describe it when a system gains a new member based off an existing person.
How this works is fairly simple (well, if you cut it down to basics): Being a Person is ultimately a set of experiences, attributes, behaviours etc. that are associated with one sense of self.
Where this set comes from can vary. The normative, singlet (=non-plural) set is just "your life experience", but a plural set can consist of experiences that did not fit into existing sets - or it can be taken from somewhere else. And this can include "observe another set of experiences, attributes, behaviours, etc." - which of course comes from another person, generally outside the system (typically real, but as mentioned they need not be, fictional characters also have experiences, attributes, behaviours etc. after all).
And that is, in essence, what that is. The detailed "how" and "why's" and all that are of course complicated and often unknown, but if you want detailed, accurate explanations of the human brain, please give us a lot of prizes if we can deliver that.

Why is it "Singlet" and not "Singular", if "Plural" comes from grammar? The opposite of plural is singular.

Why is it "Singlet" and not "Singular", if "Plural" comes from grammar? The opposite of plural is singular.
Hypothesis:

Because "singlet" is the noun for a brain with one copy of consciousness.exe running on it, but the preferred noun for a brain with multiple copies running on it isn't "plural" it's "system." Because "system" is a noun, and so is "singlet," and "singular" and "plural" are both adjectives corresponding to the appropriate nouns.

Example:
Liv, Athena, and now this symbiote form a system.
Once upon a time, Liv was a singlet.

Liv, Athena, and now this symbiote are plural together.
Once upon a time, Liv was singular.

Liv, Athena, and now this symbiote form a plural system, which is strictly redundant but a popular phrasing because it avoids ambiguity.
Once upon a time, Liv was a singular singlet, which we do not say because it sounds bloody stupid.

...

EDIT:

DISCLAIMER: For those of you voting me 'informative,' I should note that I don't actually know. I'm hypothesizing.

[X] Healing. It says it can't 'fix' you (fucking ableist tbh) but you won't say no to less pain.

I feel like this is gonna be a better short term goal. If we keep Goo Friend, we can plan how to trans our gender, rather than going with the Friend's gender understanding, which if i recall correctly...

... could be worse!

What's it called when you have multiple people sharing the same brain? I tried finding the wikipedia page for it but the closest I could find was the page for DID and "disorder" doesn't sound right.

Plural, the term is plural.
I tried looking that up earlier but that only got me the quantity version of the word, but this time I had the idea of checking if the Plural page had a disambiguation thingy at the top, which it did. That got me to the Multiplicity page. Is multiplicity the correct formal term (or a correct term)?

Wikipedia has the problem of wanting to avoid disambiguation where possible, and can be edited by anyone, so if there's a bunch of silly old farts insisting that "ACK-TUALLY, it's THIS" they have a lot of leverage.

Literally every poster we have here who's coming from a "multiple copies of consciousness.exe run on my brain" standpoint refers to their little crowd of time-sharing selves as "plural." They may or may not be using the word "multiplicity" sometimes too, but it's not "more correct."

I'm curious if you have any feedback, favourite parts, thoughts, etc? I love the interactivity of quests, but the lack of the kind of commentary on my writing can get kinda demoralizating and I'm really curious what made you stick with it?

I've read all Arachne quests, the Galactic Concert series, and Castles of Steel; you are one of my favorite writers on this site. What made your stories and quests really enjoyable to read for me has been the thoughtful character and world building, the pacing being just right (which I think is really hard to do well), and how compelling and fun I find the story lines.

I would have never thought I would find the world of Lieutenant Fusilier interesting, but it has become one of my favorite series; I adore the characters and love the way you are able to peer deeply into their world and how their lives flow.

Arachne has been just loads of fun to read. I like how Athena is not reduced to the status of a sidekick and has her own life independent of Liv's, and Liv herself takes that seriously. Just, the lack of assholes masquerading as brooding protagonists, how the world does not approximate shallow grimdark, and how characters are self-aware instead of being puppeted around, it makes me excited to check SV everyday. Thank you for all your writing; it has brought real joy to me in these past months.

I just want to say that these quests really opened my mind to a lot of concepts. I have a roommate now who is a system and I don't think I'd be nearly as able to understand without being prepped for key concepts about it through Liv and the other info people have been sharing in the thread.

i'm really glad. awareness really is the first step on any of this stuff, and i'm happy i can contribute to that in some small way

If you want to ask specific questions - IDK what questions, there can be so many potential ones! - or just something else plurality-related that has nothing to do with this story, we do have a community thread for that (see our signature) and you're very welcome to post there! Or PM us, if you don't want to post there, that's okay also.
(offer also extends to other people)

Also yis, stories like this one are v. important 🥰
