Read some of the thread, and yeah I can't see how this could be a trap specifically for Liv unless there is some future prediction going on. The idea of building a trap in the basement of your place is also a very odd idea. Besides, nothing about this exclusively says trap, but it does all says containment cell, the pressure differential is a huge indication of that.

I'm going to plant a flag on one particular prediction I think is quite likely: As with everything else in this place, the lack of active tech is all for keeping the symbiote in - because the symbiote has tech powers. It is not a trap for Liv, it is a containment cell for a Liv-like entity.

Besides that, a strong possibility:

"The signal gets most intense on Tuesdays, unless there's a holiday on Monday, in which case it moves over a day. I think that means that whatever is causing it is a human organization of some variety: they power it up on Monday, it peaks a day later, then they shut it down. Maybe that can narrow things down for you?"

It could have something to do with the signal? It takes 48 hours of a symbiote to bond with its host, meaning the gradual ramp up in strength over the day or so makes sense. They don't let it fully bond to prevent a containment breach. We are hitting the place on the weekend, which means things are shut down right now.

Can't be the whole picture if I am on the right track, the signal supposedly comes from New York (unless Thor was just wrong about that). I got a wild theory to reconcile that but nothing to back it up.

If you did have the ability to predict* that someone was specifically going to try to infiltrate your sanctum, and the ability to reconstruct your own facilities on the fly, then setting traps in a few select locations would be far from the worst idea.

But you'd need both of those things in place.

*(Wouldn't have to be precognition. Intelligence on the activities of enemy agents would do the trick. So would just operating in a certain area and knowing who the local heroes are. If you're a supervillain operating anywhere near Metropolis you'd be a fool not to invest in kryptonite booby-traps for your home base if you can afford it, because Superman will probably show up sooner or later, and being specifically prepared to entrap him saves you a LOT of trouble if you pull it off somehow)

Soooo, lost child Venom? The challenge is to not adopt them? Because maybe they have space-slime parents out there somewhere or are an interstellar incident waiting to happen or maybe it would be awkward to effectively share a body with someone who we think of as a child and we are right in the middle of trying to deal with all of the awkward with Athena being fed up with our self-destructive streak and the whole May situation?

I give it four updates until May gets powers...

[X] Nope on out of there.
Athena really is at her wit's end and we don't actually have a good grounding to know that this is anything other than some weird, and likely toxic, chemical that, for whatever reason, is not behaving like a normal fluid, and thus might spread in ways that we won't predict. Like, maybe it will fling itself at us because of the thermal/pressure difference when we open our mouth or something...

Goo
"Hi. There." you said, trying to contain the mixture of anticipation, excitement, and the little bit of fear welling up inside you. "I'm Aranche. Who are you?"

The thing, whatever it was, rolled a little further around the edge of the pipe. As it came into the light, you saw it was small, maybe a liter of inky dark goop, moving on a series of sticky pseudopods. It didn't have anything like a head, no eyes or anything, but it seemed to be looking at you, somehow.

You stepped closer, and as you did, your tech sense went nuts. There was something with that little blob that it liked, something technological, though alien enough that the specifics evaded you.

"What are you, then? Nanotechnology?" you speculated aloud, just trying to keep up a calming patter. Like you were talking to a scared dog or something, because, you know, that made sense, projecting that onto an alien, Liv, you fucking moron, you absolute goddamn brainless fuckhead. "Something like that, yeah?"

You stepped a little closer, trying to get a clearer image of what you were looking at. It backed away, with a sound like a little squeak, and you held out a hand trying to reassure it. To keep it calm.

"Hey, hey, don't be scared, okay? Not here to hurt you." you said, "You can't understand a word I'm saying probably but I'm just trying to say calming things and not freak you out while I figure out what you are..."

You could see it now, that you were closer, the shape of it. Not its actual shape, it didn't seem to have one of those, but what it was made of. Not machines as you'd typically recognize them, but not organic either, not something evolved, something made...

Slowly, very slowly, it crawled down the wall toward you, puddling on the wall, swirling in on himself. Close enough to touch.

(I finally figured out how to do this properly).

[X] Touch it with your organic arm.

I figure, best case, we truly help out a being in need and prove that we can care about anything whether they're organic, inorganic, or in-between. At worst, at least we've got two minds to fight it back. In-character worst case, one prosthetic worked out alright, what's another.

[X] Touch it with your organic arm.

Very embarrassing if we lose the arm, but probably better the familiarity of organics.

[X] Touch it with your prosthetic arm.

In what world would anyone rational touch the obviously sapient goo ball with their bare hands?

[x] Touch it with your organic arm.

[X] Touch it with a mecha tentacle

[X] Let it sniff your hands. And tentacles. And so on and so forth. You know, just like a dog or a cat, no matter how friendly it is, don't pet the nanoswarm without its permission.

... I really expect this to be Venom-brand symbiote, but "Technological organic" reminded me that there are other amorphous things under Marvel that can integrate with a superhero...
But it is probably a friendly blob!
[x] Hold out both for it to examine/sniff/rub

Like, I'm sorry, but Liv only has one live arm left and May needs it for cuddling, so I'm not taking any avoidable chances with it.

Somehow I got it in my head that a tech-Venom is a plausible way to a body for Athena, and now that I've considered that possiblity I will be voting for it at every turn until it happens or I forget that I just made this resolution.

[X] Try and bag it without touching it, pop round a petstore for test subjects and or snacks.

I kinda find the idea of Venom-hamster pretty enjoyable.
