Teacher of the cursed: A Warhammer 40k Psyker School Quest.

Here are my thoughts on the sector options:

- Starting on an established world with plenty of resources makes the most practical sense. However, a more populated world means more Imperium bureaucrats and lawmen breathing down our necks.

- DAoT settlement and light sector government is a must.

- I'm not too sure if the xenos purification option would be more of a blessing than a curse, but I still think we should go with unsecure frontiers nonetheless.

- A large number of abhumans could give us the opportunity to try and push for greater rights for these groups, but given that this is 40K that might not be very likely.

- If I had to pick a heretic option, then it would have to be Old Rebellion.

- Warp currents can be whatever.

I'm guessing all the costs have to add up to zero, but even so I'm not taking any of that into account.

No Knight, no interest I'm afraid. Otherwise…if you can squeeze Knights in I'd be interested in that madhouse.

@Mayto Oh, possible fun write-in suggestion for an Astartes option?

"Crusade Path:
A fleet-based Astartes chapter has been known to come through this sector. In times of uncertainty, they may show up.
2 points."

No guarantee of their aid, contact is sparse, and you have no idea who they are but a fleet-based chapter has its own advantages.

Got bored. added options.

[] A venerable Rogue Trader:

An ancient Rogue Trader dynasty exists in the heart of the sector, twelve worlds all controlled by the rogue trader to create a little sector inside of a sector. They actively accumulate power, and do not get along with the sector as a whole.
A rogue trader owns two whole subsectors and everything in it.
Costs: -4

[] An up and coming rogue trader:

After the death of the last trader, a distant relative serving as a sergeant in the Imperial Guard suddenly inherited an ancient warrant, a ship, and a series of commercial holdings across the sector, thanks to a very convoluted system of inheritance. They are currently preparing for an expedition into uncharted space.
Costs: 2

Already there

[] Adeptus Astartes Recruitment Worlds:
A chapter of the Adeptus Astartes operating as a fleet has taken it upon themselves to see to the defence of the sector, actively recruiting from whomever in the sector can provide suitable aspirants:
Costs: 4

Goddamn that has to be one of the most in-depth creation pages I've ever seen props to you @Mayto

Also I want knights, all of the knights.

Not sure about the rest but I like the idea of having a unique Xenos race as opposed to the, quite frankly, overused Orks

To proposes at the extremes for you horrible lot. First we have the The Lonely Tower which has high levels of control over who get in or out, a government that shouldn't be too curious and a thorough nuclear cleansing that should keeps the eye of those on the planets looking down in search of their next meal rather than up in search of us.

On the one hand, Getting the fortress on a hive world would get us a LOT of Psykers to play around with. It also forces us to deal with true imperial experience! :D

On the other, the hidden fortress is just plain safer. I have to admit however that managing some world building isn't what I'd call interesting? It's something i'd rather avoid.

And here we go, the Asculum Reach. A place of eager colonists, and the replacements to the last lot that thought to cast away their duty to the rest of humanity. Teeming with peril between the light of stars, yet with not that much in the way of open conflict. A place of extraordinary wealth, that has tempted and does tempt many that lay their eyes on it. A treasure trove for the Imperium, yet seemingly not enough of one to warrant being fully secured.

And, if it should be found within Segmentum Pacificus, well, there might be a reason why the Imperium seems to have more of a mind to scraping out every last speck of resources from the region with great haste rather than securing long-lasting habitation...

@Mayto

Are there any options besides the choice of fief/school that affect psyker numbers? Like, I don't know, Warp storms causing them to bloom, choke points in Warp travel affecting those delivered, etc?
