Well, we certainly know where we stand with the cadet. Our fate could certainly swing in any direction now.

[X] [FATE] Continued fighting in the Imperial Guard.

There's no real bad option for the fate votes, but I do still think that the Imperial Guard or Ordo Hereticus are best suited to meet our specific needs.

If we get child psykers, would it be possible to gain favor or more from some astartes chapter that are more sensitive to the warp like this should be a huge boom for the space marines and everyone else

I once more stump for Hereticus, so that we may teach psyker-wrangling techniques to our staff. Otherwise the only technique they can use is bolt to the head.

I have to say, all that mention of "Psyker-wrangling" conjures up imagery of said guards having Cowboy hats and lassos that they toss at Rogue Psyker while giving orders in a southern accent.

[X] [CADET] You let the cadet get riddled with bullets

Bah. Bah I say! If we start caring about rando baby commissars now then grinding up orphans for juvenates will become that much harder. Remember, being an asshole makes a fuck ton of cash in this galaxy

This putting aside that even the biggest troop ships in the Imperium only carry soldiers by the tens of thousands, so your two or three hundred thousand regiment is right screwed if the ship that get popped by the anti-orbital defenses was the one carrying all the regiment's support companies. Or their food.
The ships of the Imperium are much larger. Exact figures for cargo ships have not been met, but manning a warship within 50,000 infantrymen has been met, and giants of Universe class can transport hundreds of thousands, probably up to 500-700k at a time. And these are not even the largest cargo ships, just the largest serial ones.

Orbital landing is much more complicated and for this reason there are Astartes droppods, but even so, any ships of the Imperium have dozens of shuttles and several large "lighters" of several dozen meters in size for loading/unloading and planetary landing. For a Sword frigate, this is 4-10 such shuttles.
40K regiment sizes are not standardized, every planet can give IG regiments for tithes, but sizes and quality can vary from very high to very low. example death korp krieg infantry regiments are far larger than most other planet IG infantry regiments.
It seems to me that in Only War it was better shown exactly how the regiments of the Imperial Guard work. They should be able to do a set of simple tactical tasks. They will do it at the expense of mobility, cunning, quality or quantity - this is secondary. Siege regiments may have tens or hundreds of thousands of infantrymen with basic equipment, but a regiment of orbital paratroopers, space stormtroopers or chemical flamethrowers will be smaller. They can also perform the tactical task of "capturing a fortified hill".

Such a system explains why the lasgun and flak armor are "almost" mandatory for Imperial Guard regiments and why even auxiliary units like field technicians, anti-radiation units or regiments of cooks are required to have this set.

Tomorrow a mad general will order them to fix bayonets and direct them to capture this damn hill.
