Surviving the apocalypse Quest (mutants, zombies and more)

[X]tell her to rest
[X]Compost it(-1 morale)(skip this evening

- do we know anything else about that river? i was hoping we can find a cave or build something like a bunker out in the woods, yet there may be mutants out there... are we natives of this area or just visiting? do we still get a bonus if we can explain why our companions are carrying the stuff that they are carrying?
Yes you can still get part of the bonus just remember that the person who packed it is now dead.

You are local giving you a general idea of the surrounding landscape. Your background gives you the locations of some fairgrounds and a campsite but they are not remote or defencable. You can ask about the general area.

The river runs trough a mix of hills and plains there is a large amount of woodland in the hills and the hill become steeper the further away from the river you go.

night all.

Day 4 evening
Day 4 Evening

Taking a good look at Lili you tell her to rest up and not worry about anything for the time being. As much as you think someone should study the gardening manuals you can tell that Lili is in to much pain to even attempt to read let alone remember what she read.

Thinking about your choices on how to deal with the spoiled breads you go over the options. Throwing it over the wall is out as you have no idea what is out there or what would be attracted by the smell. Ignoring it is even worse the smell could easily make people feel ill let alone the actual sicknesses that it might cause and it could attract attention to the building. Finally you decide to set up the composters and compost it. While this will take up the most time it will prevent any chance of disease and mostly contain the smell. It will also result in fertilizer if you have to/choose to remain in the area for long.

You choose to building the composters in the far corner of the yard. This is easily done the most time consuming part is reading some of the soil to place on top once filled.

When you open up the container the smell almost knocks you off your feet it is so strong. To deal with the smell you use a trick you heard about at one of the Renfairs and place a piece of fabric soaked in water over your mouth and nose to cut the smell. It work at reducing the smell but there is still no way anyone is going to carry it across the warehouse and in to the yard by hand. You end up filling some of the plastic totes then placing the lids on tightly so you can carry it out and dump it into the composters.

After dealing with everything you end up with a small amount of time before sunset. You decide to ask everyone a few questions.

Do they think this place is defendable?
[ ]Yes
[ ]No
[ ]Maybe

Do they have anywhere they think we should try to go to?
[ ] Yes(Write in where)
[ ]No but they think we should still leave as soon as we can safely.
[ ]No we should stay here.

So far you have basically been camping in the building. Do you want to change that?
[ ]No
[ ]Yes set up for staying a medium amount of time.

is there a prison or armory nearby?:D or a renfair castle replica?

You know of several places like that. There is a old prison that has been converted into a hotel but it is in the middle of down town. An old manor house that often had renfairs outside of town but it is along way away(1-2 weeks travel by foot) and lacks any wall around the property. The local minimum security prison is at the edge of town(2-3 days by foot) though it may still be occupied, is minimum security and anyone how has seen the walking dead might head there. Finally there is a run down castle on a small island in the middle of the river some distance downstream its down sides is you have noway to get on the island right now, it has limited space, extremely difficult to scavenge from and has little of use beyond the castle itself.

very interesting... I hope there are no mutant fishes or river monsters!;)

how about police stations and army bases, airfields or even wharfs?

With some work. It'll be easier now that we have more building material.

The castle sounds promising, but it has space/resources issues. If it's a good choice anyway depends on whether Bangers can cross rivers or not. We could use it as a base to scavenge from if we get a boat. The Renfair manor seems like another choice that needs extra work to be really good. We can build walls. We can probably build walls with inbuilt defences eventually even. Do we know if it has a watersource nearby? The prisons seem like bad choices. We don't want to join up with prisoners and downtown would probably be bad.

[X]Yes setup for staying a medium amount of time.

I'm thinking we need to set up here short/mid term until we've squeezed out all the loot we can from the containers, have better transport available so we can bring our stuff with us and have a better feel of the area/situation. We may also want to recruit more people before the move and/or have good enough stuff/skills that any previous occupants of the place we're wanting to set up don't mind us joining. We may also want to keep useing this building as a outlying base after we move. Perhaps as a base to scavenge from.

Do we know of any bicycle shop/repair shop nearby? Or other transportation that doesnt require fuel. A sporting goods store of sone kind maybe? If we find one on the waterfront they tend to have boats on display at the very least. I mean a car or lorry would be good, but I'm worried about how to keep it fueled long term and that the sound might attract Bangers or other bad things.

The manor is directly on a branche of the river and has an old style well.

Your in the middle of the industrial district. those shops are either close to down town or most of a day way by foot.

Can we look through the office for a local street-map? And get everyone to help with trying to fill in what the nearby buildings are. Occasionally you find outlet stores and such in the industrial district. And some larger workplaces have canteens/cafeterias to loot for food

No street map found. and you would have to explore for salvage. I will not make you people act stupid unless you guys pick a stupid choice.

Day 4 Night

For the second night in a row your watch spots survivors just before nightfall. This time it is a group nearly the same size as your own but in clearly worse condition. Because of their numbers you ask your questions before letting them in. They tell you they were shopping down town when things went to hell and it has taken them seven days to get this far. Apparently they started with a much larger group but down town has turned into a kill zone. You also find out why they looked in a hurry to find shelter. It seems that something that looks like a giant dog or small bear keeps attacking groups that are out after night fall. When asked how they survived and what skills they have they turn to their leader. He is an army reservist and he tells you that they have been running and hiding because anyone who has tried to fight has already died. As for skills they have himself with his army training two fishermen a chef, a baker and canoe trip guide.

Half way through your talks the lights flicker for a few minute before coming back on.

This many people will put a strain on your food stores and they will only join as a group or not at all.Do you let them join you?
[ ]Yes
[ ]No

If they join do you go to half rations?

[X]Yes

They will bring some useful skills to the table.

[X]Yes

It will be a huge strain on our supplies if we don't.

Maybe. Can we get a recalculation of food resources? How many days on full and how many on half? Are they carrying any food with them? How have they been eating up til now? Edit, because of questions answered

What exactly are the consequences of half rations? Fuzzyheaded? But what does that do? Could we do full rations one day then half rations the next and so on?

Right now none. The fuzzy head came from 3 days lack of sleep and no food eating and sleeping removed it. If you are on half rations for too long you suffer morale loss, negatives on rolls and some option are unavailable. How long this takes id determined by what has been happening.

So if we say, go three days half-rations then one day full-rations then three half-rations again then one full etc then we stand a good chance of both stretching out our food supply and avoiding the worst consequences?

How have the other guys been eating? Well? Not at all? Half rations? Do we need to do one day of full rations to get them well?

Not really the effects of rationing take a lot of time to recover you are not feeling the effects right now but you no longer have any reserves. You body's reserves take a long time to recover.
