Surviving the apocalypse Quest (mutants, zombies and more)

[[X] Write in: Build a movable barrier that can be used to block off the entrance to next building at a moments notice.
-[X] Alternately add a door or gate there. Whichever seems more practical and/or safe.
You would need to build the access option first please make another choice. right now it is basicly they can jump down but you can not jump up that high

How about this:
[X] Yes

[X]Set up access to the next building(Bard choice)
[X] Write in: Build a movable barrier that can be used to block off the entrance to next building at a moments notice.
-[X] Alternately add a door or gate there. Whichever seems more practical and/or safe.
[X] Fill all the barrels and water container(Bard choice)

Edit: I'm going to sleep now, so if the above vote isn't okay, please count me as voting this:

[A]Make some decisions about the contents of the crates you have already opened
[A]Set up a dedicated sleeping area
-[A]On top of the crates
[A] Fill all the barrels and water container(Bard choice)

Day 3 evening
Day 3 evening

Deciding to add the dried milk to you supplies in use adds 8 days to the food supplies. This bring it up to 14 days food on full rations, 28 days on half rations.

Hearing that there might be a heat wave on its' way and being reminded that you might lose your running water at anytime everyone throws themselves into filling all the water containers. This ends up taking far longer then you thought it would. You end up having to leave James and Vincent on it for the rest of the evening. Near the end of the hour you planned for this you do the math and are stunned. Once everything is fill you will have 2426 liters of drinking water. This is a lot as you remember that each person needs 2.5 to 3 liters of drinking water a day. This means if you lose running water, don't wash and gain no new people you will have between 970.5 and 808.5 days. No wonder it is taking so long. lucky you have a lot of taps to fill them all from or this wold take forever. As it stand the watch will have to keep watch on the barrels as well tonight.(Did the math will add to an extra post)

Leaving the water alone for now you turn to the crates you have an idea about they either contain clothes or fabric and you feel and you have some ideas but you need to know which it is. You get the crates open without any problem as they were only ziptied close. Inside you find fabric. having two people with weaving and tailoring skills this is a great boon.

Finally you turn to what you will take id you have to make a run for it.First you switch you backpack for hiking packs moving your current inventory into them. You then add two pairs of glove to each pack. You take 6 camel packs because water is Important(can only take 1 each when full). You also take 1 camping rolls per person because a warm sleep will keep people heathy trough a lot.You add the trail mix for emergencies. You take take 3 sets collapsible cookware and 6 sets of camping utensils for food preparation.

For the final choices you want everyones input. Each option uses the some amount of space as its opposite.

First for shelter do you take:
[ ]6 one person tents
[ ]2 large tents

Do you take:
[ ]6 outdoor coats
[ ]3 large handpump filters and 60 seed packets

Choose between:
[ ]10 small mineral picks
[ ]Select gardening manuals

Having that settled you decide where to sleep tonight. After last night no one wants to keep the lights on.

Do you set a watch or patrol?
[ ]set a watch where we sleep(if sleeping in meeting room also maintains watch from the window)

- hopefully we can layer our clothes so that we don't need the outdoor coats.
- the small picks can be used as either an improvised weapon or as a distraction
- let's take the bards advice on the sleeping place

[X]2 large tents

[X]6 outdoor coats

[X]Select gardening manuals

[X]upstairs meeting room(bard choice)

[X]set a watch where we sleep(if sleeping in meeting room also maintains watch from the window)

The math for the amount of water we are storing
8 1L bottles=8 liters
7 10 gallon collapsible water barrels=70 liters
15 self flitering camel packs (5L each)=75 liters
25 20 gallon rain barrels=500 gallons= 2273 liters

2273+70+8+75=2426 liters

These are our whatchamacallit bug-out bags, right? The things we take if we have to go NOW and have no time? So we might have to consider being separated and/or losing people (and therefore their gear) We could probably get more with us if we weren't in a rush, I hope.

[X] 6 one person tents
Just in case you are separated. You wouldn't want to be the person not carrying a tent in a downpour. Neither would you want to be carrying a large tent and not much more.

[X]3 largehandpump filters and 60 seed packets
There's a heatwave coming (possibly) so we're probably good for a while and as long as we can get fabric or fibers we can make our own eventually even those of us with no training. (Ponchos would be good to start with, they're warm, really easy and quick to make and can be worn over backpacks.) Although to be honest I don't see why we couldn't take the seed packs either way. 60 seed packs do not take much space.

Actually? Can we add to the "keep this on you at all times"-list? Cause I think we should also carry one water bottle and one seed pack. Because unless we are talking about industrial sized things (which admittedly you might be) then one seed pack is small enough to fit in a wallet. Real easy to carry with you. Try to choose varieties that you can recognise the seeds of, like ... tomatoes or maize or something, to begin with. We really need to have someone sit down and read the gardening manuals. Particularly the how do we get seeds from these things chapter(s) so we don't end up using them one year and not having seeds for next year.

Choose between:
[ ]10 small mineral picks
[ ]Select gardening manuals
Can we combine these two? Say by taking one or two less gardening manuals and only three? small mineral picks? Because I'm not sure how to choose here.

[X]upstairs meeting room(bard choice)
There are more than one exit to this room, right? Do the windows open? Does it have curtains? We really don't want to be visible from the outside, even if we have the lights off. What if the something that killled the bangers can see in the dark or something.

[X]set a watch where we sleep(if sleeping in meeting room also maintains watch from the window)

@Eri Thanks for asking questions there was a reason I said you wanted everyones opinions. The questions you asked are exactly how I want you to think.

As foe the seed packs they are industrial sized and once you open one you have no way to seal it again

Again this is how I wanted you to use you brain and as it is otherwise a tie you get your suggestion on this one.

so the winners are

[X]3 large handpump filters and 60 seed packets
[X]3 small mineral picks and basic gardening manuals

Day 3 Night
Day 3 night

Everyone agrees that you will need the 3 large handpump filters and 60 seed packets if you are forced to make a run for it. People are more divided on the matter of tents while the one person tents would allow everyone to carry their own tents in the end it was decided that the 2 large tents would be easier to watch over and could hold a few more people if you found anyone.

When it came to deciding whether to take the small mineral picks or the gardening manuals things became a bit heated. Luckily your Bards were able to calm everyone(yay Bard diplo) down resulting in a compromise. You end up taking 3 small mineral picks and only the basic gardening manuals (result from Eri's question). This is less then half of each because the do not fit together well. In the end you are satisfied that you have as many of your bases covered as you can for now so everyone prepares for the night.

As your moving you sleeping gear up to the meeting room one of the watch call out. There is someone approaching the warehouse. She has obviously seen you, is moveing like a normal person and look terrified. After last night you don't want anything to attract attention from outside so you decide to ask her the questions once she is inside. You also don't think she is much of a threat as she is alone.

Once she is inside you learn several things. First her name is Lili Smith and she was an Architect and she has been on the run for the last few days. She say the military has been deployed but as far as she could tell they have had no effect. After a few minute of discussion you decide to let her join your group. The extra hiking pack you give her allow you to take the rest of the small picks and some more gardening manuals along with the basic.(I will adjust the inventory later)

We don't have pockets? Or even belts? Actually, we have fabric now, right? We could make some toolbelts.

{What is with you guys and getting the jobs that skip tech levels}{For now that is all the heros your going to get everyone else is going to be generic}
Aww. How about skewing the numbers instead? Like, say, the available jobs were baker, butcher, candlestick-maker, tinker, tailor, soldier, sailor. And out of those, say the candlestick-maker and the tailor allows us to skip tech-levels (I dunno if they actually would, but I'm picking at random from professions chosen from children's rhymes) So you make it so a roll of 1 and 2 gets you a baker, 3 and 4 gets you a butcher, but only 5 gets you a candlestick-maker. 6-7 and 8 gets you a tinker and a tailor respectively, while maybe 9-11 gets you a soldier (since they're more likely to have survived, I'm assuming) and 12-13 or maybe 14 gets you a sailor (they could have been out at sea?) Or you could just increase the difficulty of getting someone with a useful skill.

Actually getting so many people skilled in building and making things might be a bad thing short term. The thing is while we have loads of great skills for later, cause we can build/make/keep the peace with the best of them, we have virtually no one that can do anything that will help us immediately, like knowing how to fight or sneak or open locks or defend. So for this quest we're basically optimised for late game stuff, while we're barely scraping by now. Almost all of our skills do just one thing, make it easier for us to build. We have one dabbler in medicine, we have NO fighters, NO sneaky persons, NO scientists, NO ONE who have any idea of how to grow food. So, yeah, skills are great, but we might have wanted them distributed a bit more evenly?

What do people think so far?
You're doing great! It's very exiting. ... You might want to get someone to look over the posts for spelling errors?

Sorry if I was unclear new people will have skills they just wont be hero level skills. So yes we will have the skill holes filled just not one person giving global bonuses.
Also I'm stealing your job list and adding it to my own:p

Maybe we could still get people with hero level skills on critical hits?

Day 4 Morning

After gaining another member to your group and another peaceful night everyones mood has improved.(+1 morale)
(Rations locked unless people ask for it to be changed)

As you prepare for the day you ask Lili a few more questions. You learn that while the Bangers are active 24/7 the strange sound and activity happen mostly at night. Letting this sit in the back of your mind you begin to plan out you day.

Do we have the tools that would be required to build something like the? The supplies? Someone with the skills needed to do this?

We definately have the skills. Pretty much every one of us have building skills, with the exception of Cedric. And we must have materials, given that we've broken up a few crates. Whether we have the tools is more iffy, but it shouldn't be massively more difficult than trying to set up access or build a barrier.
