Thank god Nergal didn't betray us, but we still need to do something to actually get them to stay loyal (if we have the option to do so next turn).

As for unit deployment...
[X] Plan: the inevitable tragedy.
For ships, we want Archangel and Ra Calium, since they give us good units (Kira for Archangel, Banagher for Ra Calium).

Forgot to mention, there is also that the Nadesico is heavy energy dependent and we are getting a boss rush if this is Zagato last stand.

Since as soon as Rune God Chronos is down, Emeraude is gonna spawn with her rune god and very pissed off that we killed Zagato and considering that thing is gonna be powered by the literal pillar of Cephiro.

TBH my problem is that while the aestvalis are pretty good units, they lack on damage unless it is stuff like the black serena and they need to be on close quarters to the Nadesico to get their intake of energy and Zagato is gonna prolly have a high ability modifier, so the distortion field attack is gonna require a high dc probably to land.

Thinking about it, isn't this the point where Kira already has access to his SEED buff? there is also that Mu from what I remember is a newtype.

And finally the Unicorn is just so bullshit that we may be able to pull off a miracle.

Of all things, Getter is absent. The one group we have who might feasibly be able to shift the ultimate outcome of the Final Battle.

I mean, I really doubt they could, they aren't one of the crazier variants or further along in the timeline, but Getter has a lot of potential.

I said it before, and I'll say it again, the ending of Rayearth S1 is nearly inevitable. We would need a force of Willpower much greater than basically any series we have access to in order to shift what will be done.

So we know this is going to hurt...but goddamnit, couldn't we have gotten Getter Team to support their number 1 fangirl?

As for the Magic...I have no idea how this'll interact with anything. Other than it's not the most favorable for technology, so we shouldn't be relying on unique technologies.

[X] Plan: the inevitable tragedy.

...Not liking that name, though.

Sadly it is the truth.

Like I said Psycomu may be bullshit enough to pull on a miracle, but it is probably a 1 in a 100 chance to even work.

Actually, wonder if we could mix the Psycomu with bio-sensor and lambda driver to actually do it?... maybe I could change one of our teams and get Sousuke on the field just for the Lambda driver.

Photon energy may have been able to pull something off too, if this was advanced to Mazinger Z infinity levels of research, but that is sadly long down the road.

Either that or OG mazinkaiser as that was a mix of Photon and getter energy, but sadly this is OVA so pure photon.

Getter may not be able to pull something off at our current point, if we had Shin getter before it could, but they are testing it just now.

I could prolly see us pull the miracle if we had Movie 00 tech, as that mixed with a lot of will technologies may be able to shift Cephiro stuff.

I still feel like Showdown in Cephiro was a waste of a mission slot here. Our intervention won't change anything, the Magic Knights could have handled themselves well without our aid (note that this read could be wrong) and moral support could have been provided after the fact without using an action now (again, this could also be wrong).
We were lucky enough to not have Nergal bail on us, but the safer option would have been to handle them now with the appeal action (it would have given us some more leeway next turn, since we will have to do something about Nergal next turn if we can, because we can't afford to rely on 50-50 rolls to placate them; one way or another, we have to make them loyal once again for at least a significant amount of time, if not for the rest of the quest). Even discouting Appealing to Ereshkigal, A Demon's Sorrow may have been arguably a better choice than Showdown in Cephiro, even if all that event would have done was to provide us information (Lelouch is in a very bad funk, his Geass has mostly likely gone runaway; that said, things seems to be mostly fine with the Black Knights, on the other hand A Demon's Sorrow may have clarified what intel we had on Britannia, since there is a possibility the "preparations for operations against Britannia" is supposed to signal the fact that we're hitting the Geass Order soon).
Hopefully we can get something out of Showdown in Cephiro that would be of use to us (aside from recruting the Magic Knights).

Given that it's unanimous and there's been no new discussion, I'm thinking of closing the vote tomorrow. Also, @ThatGuyWithIdeas I've noticed you've been starting to get a little...min-maxy. Just wanted to point that out.

November UE 0083
Zagato's Sanctum, Cephiro

"ZAGATO!" Alcyone yells as she emerges from behind a pillar.

"What is it, Alcyone?" Zagato says with a disinterested air.

"What you just said, is it true? Are those your true feelings?" Alcyone asks in a demanding tone.

"And if they are?" Zagato rebuts dispassionately.

"Then everything I've done...fighting against the Magic Knights, betraying Master Clef...I did it all for you, and-"

Alcyone is cut off by Zagato walking up and grabbing her by the chin.

"Don't kid yourself. Everything you've done was for yourself. That's the true nature of man." He says in an annoyed tone.

"But...I truly did...do everything for you..." Alcyone says weakly.

"Even if that is true, everything you've done has ended in failure." Zagato tosses Alcyone back against the pillar. "You are useless to me, and yet you dare speak of the sacrifices you've made? Begone from my sight."

Alcyone crumples to the floor, one hand clutching her left breast and the other clasping her arm.

"Zagato...no...please..." Alcyone says in despair as Zagato walks away.

Aboard the Ra Cailum

You are Amuro Ray, and you were not expecting a visit from Beltorchika, or what she had come to deliver.

"Are...are you sure about this?" You ask.

Beltorchika huffs.

"Do you have any idea how many people at Anaheim I had to bribe in order to get this built? And the favors I had to call in to make sure the Vist Foundation didn't get their hands on it! I hope you appreciate this, Amuro." Beltorchika says while poking your cheek.

"Sorry, that's not what I meant." You say.

"Apology accepted." Beltorchika says.

The two of you turn toward the mobile suit that she delivered.

The Hi-Nu Gundam...this was what you had originally intended to field against Char to prevent the Axis drop, but time constraints had forced you to almost literally slap on a rack of Fin Funnels for the original Nu and call it a day. Looking over the Hi-Nu, you can't help but feel a sense of...completeness.

"It's perfect, Beltorchika. Thank you." You say.

Beltorchika embraces you before kissing you on the cheek.

"Please, Amuro, come back safely." She implores you.

"I will." You say resolutely.

Amuro has upgraded to the Hi-Nu Gundam!
Unit Stats:
HP: 5000
Armor: 3
Mobility: 10
Special Abilities:
I-Field Pyramid: Immune to all damage from up to moderately powerful mundane beam attacks
Psycho-Frame: At 8 Will, add +1 to all attack rolls and mobility DC for each level of Newtype the pilot has, at 10 Will, double Will bonus

Aboard the Archangel

As your motely flotilla goes through the Blue Hole, you mull over your suggestion to Samsara. The door opens, and you turn to see Yukari.

"Still thinking about that?" Yukari asks as she hands you a bottle of water.

"Yeah." You say.

The two of you sit in silence for a bit.

"Something's on your mind." Yukari says.

"It's just...incapacitating Samsara to that degree...it feels like I'm denying my conception parents' allies something." You try to explain.

"I think I get it. But beggars can't really be choosers, and we need every edge we can get to beat the Council." Yukari points out.

"I know, but I still feel bad about it." You say.

Yukari holds her arm out in some kind of offer, and you nod. She wraps her arm around your side, and you lean against her.

Cephiro

You are Murrue Ramius, and you still have trouble acknowledging the fact that you're in a magical land. Thankfully, there's a solid reminder in the distance: a floating mountain with a massive crystal tower on top.

Mu taps your shoulder, and you and Kouji turn to see the Mokona hopping towards your group, the Magic Knights close behind. their armor has become more ornate since the last time you saw them, with all of them having some kind of headgear in addition to a cape that matches their color scheme. No longer do the Magic Knights look like middle school students cosplaying fantasy warriors-they truly look like their titles suggest now.

Hikaru looks over your group, and her face morphs into one of joy as she jogs over to you.

"KOUJI KABUTO?! I didn't realize you'd be coming! Oh, we have this in the bag now!" She says excitedly. Behind her, you see Umi and Fuu share a knowing look.

"Eh?" Kouji says as he points to himself.

"She had the same reaction to Ryoma Nagare and the Getter team." You explain.

"Ah. Well...nice to meet you." Kouji says awkwardly.

"Where's the Getter Team?" Hikaru asks eagerly.

"They weren't available for this. Something about testing a new unit. They send their regards." Kouji says.

"Oh...well, I'm sure with you and Amuro, we can do this!" Hikaru says brightly.

"Chipper, isn't she?" Kouji mutters to you.

"She seems to admire Super Robot pilots quite a bit." You explain.

Kouji nods in understanding.

Tactical Information

It is anticipated that Jama Kingdom and the Council will try to interfere once combat is underway
Zagato's Sanctum is located within the crystal tower on the floating mountain

What is your plan of attack?

[ ] Frontal Assault
-No fancy tricks, commit everything you have to breaching Zagato's Sanctum to rescue Emeraude

[ ] Diversion
-Use the Magic Knights and most of your own forces to distract whatever Zagato has on hand, while deploying the Lottos to infiltrate the crystal tower with the ECOAS infantry teams.

[ ] Write-in
-The floating mountain is big enough for a full-scale battle to occur on it

A/N: The beginning of the end for the first part of Magic Knight Rayearth. Please vote, discuss, and critique!

WELP, God speed Beltorchika, Hi-nu Gundam get and that means we have 2 units that can pull off fucking miracles if we have enough will, also Amuro is a newtype level 5, so he gets a lit +10 bonus to attack and mobility on will 8.

Also shit, both Janma and Council may get things going sideways.

Also don't worry about getter team, we know they are testing Shin getter and Saotome knows that thing is utterly uncontrollable outside of Ryoma Hayato and Benkei, and Musashi when he actually gets to pilot it on some universes, so Michiru won't get crushed, nor we have invader activity so far.

I say we go Lucia for mobility.

As for strat, I am thinking straigh to the point and just get trought these battles.

On the other hand I am up to hear writte ins.

For copilots, our main tanking stat is Armor (6 Armor vs 4 Mobility), so Yukari's bonus is better than Lucia's unless we have reason to believe we have to deal with enemies that target the weaker defensive stat for their attacks. The main benefit for bringing Lucia is Scan, which would give us the opportunity to double-scan a target if needed (we have one source of Scan from Tsubaki already), otherwise Yukari would be a better pick for increasing our overall tankiness.
As for what to do... between the standard options, I'm tempted to go for Diversion, so we can make use of the ECOAS units we have. That said, I'll be waiting on voting for now, to see people discuss more about what to do and to see if anyone gets any valid write-in ideas to try, if we want to go that route.

Huh, Alcyone...For all that she's a bitch, she's a rather tragic character.

...Maybe we can recruit her? I mean, we have fucking Haman Karn and are working with the winner for multiple Worst Anime Dad Awards (Gendo).

And hey, better than her myriad of canon deaths?

And, as much as I'd like to see Mazinkaiser surpass a (Rune) God...Let's not go in all guns blazing just yet.

Sharing my opinions on the new units we've got and posting some general thoughts on the mission...
The Magic Knights are all mostly the same unit, in that they have high HP and Armor, decent Mobility, their will cap is 11, get more bonuses from Will (Will 7 - +1 to attack and defense rolls aside from the usual bonus of +2 to relevant rolls from having 2 more Will than the baseline of 5 Will; +2 once they hit 9 Will, +4 once they hit 10 Will and +5 when they the 11 Will cap) and decent Ability score at 7, with differences when it comes to Spirit Commands (all of them have Strike; Hikaru has Persist, Umi has Focus and Fuu has Trust and Forsee; Fuu also has access to a full heal for one unit once per combat provided she's hit Will 8 through a Special Ability).
In order of usefulness: Umi >= Fuu > Hikaru (Presist does help with tanking, but, unlike Umi, Hikaru will struggle a bit before the higher bonuses from Magic Knight kick in; Umi avoids this problem by having Focus, while Fuu is support-oriented, which is always nice to have and may be more useful than raw combat abilities, depending on circumstances)

And Amuro's finally got something better than a Gustav Karl (he did well with the Karl anyways, even against Frontal, who was close to his level of skill and newtype capabilities). Compared to his previous unit, Hi-Nu Gundam has 1500 more HP, 1 more Armor and 5 more Mobility. The I-Field Pyramid also makes Amuro's new ride quite resilient to attacks, provided they can actually hit him, which is going to be a bit difficult when one accounts for the Hi-Nu Gundam's mobility, Amuro's Ability score and Newtype levels and the Psycho-Frame, which effectively doubles Amuro's Newtype levels once he hits Will 8 and doubles his Will bonus once he hits Will 10. All-in-all, a very good unit, and one that will likely be a mainstay in our deployments whenever we do have access to him.

As for the mission, we have a lot of unknown variables currently (how will Magic come into play here if it will come somehow; most importantly, both the Jama forces and the Council forces are complete unknowns currently, so we can't really plan around them until they actually show up). In general, I think we will be counting on the following units to deal with the more dangerous foes: Amuro, Hikaru, Umi, Fuu, Kouji, Kazuya, Patrick, Heero, Duo, Trowa, Quatre, Wufei, Kira, Kamille, Judau, Roux and Banagher.

Well, we also might want to consider potential narrative reasons. Namely, those who might pick up on something fucky going on.

We might not be able to avert what's coming, but we could soften the blow.

I know Judau and Kamille may detect inmediatly something going on thanks to bio-sensor.

Tbh any newtype Will probably feel something fucky going with Zagato as his actions while dictated by his feelings are not those of one who wants this ending.

Amuro has upgraded to the Hi-Nu Gundam!
FUCK YEAH!

We officially now have the ultimate Real Robot. This will be huge, especially if the Psycho Frame reacts to what is soon to occur. We should have as many Newtypes up against Zagato as possible - we may not be able to change what is about to happen, but if we realize it's coming we can at least try.
Fortunately, it's Shin Getter they're testing, not G.... I cannot believe I was just grateful for that, but the point is that Saotome is pretty aware of Getter's nature and shouldn't let Michiru anywhere near it. Mostly because it's unlikely that Shin Getter would listen to her. Ever.

Fight for Cephiro: Turn 1
Winning Vote:

[X] Diversion

November UE 0083
Zagato's Tower, Cephiro

You are Judau Ashta, and you tap your control stick impatiently as you wait for your turn to launch the ZZ Gundam from the Ra Cailum.

The tension is broken when you receive a private video call from Roux.

"Getting impatient, are we?" Your girlfriend teases you.

"Ah, shut up Roux." You say in a half-hearted barb.

Roux smiles.

"If we live through this, I'll show you a very good time once we're able to get alone." She says in a sultry tone while winking at you. You fight the urge to blush.

"Don't tease me like that!" You say.

Roux chuckles before closing the line.

"ZZ Gundam, you are clear for launch!" The flight control officer of the Ra Cailum announces.

"Finally! Judau Ashta, ZZ Gundam, launching!" You say.

As you clear the Ra Cailum's runway, you take a moment to survey the area. There are numerous mobile suit-sized golems, BuCUE sized shadow wolves, and a new kind of monster: a demonic flying creature similar in appearance to a bat. Inova, the wolf made of lightning, is on the field.

"Yeesh, Zagato's not holding anything back, huh?" You comment.

"Well, we are practically knocking on his door, after all." Kenji says.

As your own forces and Zagato's forces congregate on opposite sides of the soon-to-be battlefield, one of the Clop-class cruisers' sensor operators speaks up.

"I'm getting a massive energy reading...it's similar to the Magic Knights' Rune Gods!" The technician says.

You all turn to see a Rune God descend from the top of the tower. It's a black knight with red and gold accents, a blue cape, and a literally flaming plume on its helmet, brandishing a sword and shield.

"Master Zagato?! You need not trouble yourself with this rabble!" Inova says in alarm.

"I do not doubt your abilities, Inova, but the Magic Knights and the warriors of their world are not to be underestimated. I can ill afford to sit on my laurels at the most crucial moment." Zagato says.

"Very well, Master Zagato." Inova says humbly. Zagato's Rune God turns to address all of you.

"Magic Knights! Warriors of their world! Even if it is impossible for me to triumph against all of you, I will slay the Magic Knights and prevent the legend from coming to pass with my Rune God Chronos!" Zagato yells while pointing his sword at the Magic Knights.

"Don't think we'll just roll over and die for your own selfish reasons, Zagato! Come on, Rayearth, let's do this!" Hikaru yells.

You all charge, Zagato's forces doing the same.

"Distract the bulk of the forces so we can sneak the Lottos into Zagato's castle!" Captain Ramius reminds everyone.

"Got it!" You say.

You charge at the closest golem, firing the ZZ Gundam's beam cannons at it. In the distance, you see Mazinkaiser and Daimos charge at Inova.

You are Kouji Kabuto, a wolf made of lighting is oddly not the weirdest thing you've fought, visually speaking. Numerous examples of Dr. Hell's Mechabeasts spring to mind that look far weirder than Inova.

"You presume to take me on, warriors of another world? How arrogant!" Inova yells.

"Oh, we've fought plenty of weird things before. You're only unique in that you can use magic!" You rebut.

"Pah! I will not let you ruin Master Zagato's plans!" Inova yells as his body seems to expand and turn into a wave of lightning.

"Here he comes, Kouji!" Kazuya warns.

Mazinkaiser and Daimos vs Inova
Inova attacks Mazinkaiser with Wave of Lightning
vs
Armor DC 20 = 8 Ability + 12 Armor
Roll 1d10 + 10 Ability + 2 (Magic)
Chain Attack! Wave of Lightning continues on to target Daimos
vs
Armor DC 16 = 8 Ability + 8 Armor
Roll 1d10 + 10 Ability + 2 (Magic)
Roll 2, 3
14, 15
Mazinkaiser attacks with Photon Beam
vs
Mobility DC 17 = 10 Ability + 7 Mobility
Roll 1d10 + 8 Ability + 1 (6 Will)
Roll 3
3 + 8 + 1 = 12
Kazuya attacks with Five Shooter
Mobility DC 15 = 10 Ability + 7 Mobility - 2 (Evasion Decay)
Roll 1d10 + 8 Ability + 1 (6 Will)
Roll 4
4 + 8 + 1 = 13

Result: No one takes any damage, but Inova is surprised at how tough Super Robots are

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQQBIXjrKVo

As the Wall of Lightning washes over Mazinkaiser, you brace for some kind of electrical shock, only to feel...nothing. The instruments go crazy for a second, but nothing else really happens, the only indication that Inova had actually hit you being a number of sparks arcing off of Mazinkaiser's Super Alloy Z.

"Huh." You say. Will the wonders of grandpa's work never cease?

You turn toward Daimos with a hint of concern, only to realize that it, too, has shrugged off Inova's lightning attack none the worse for wear.

"Is that all, Inova? We're not impressed." Kazuya taunts.

"What?!" Inova exclaims in surprise at the utter lack of damage he did to both of you.

"Now it's our turn! Photon Beam!" You yell.

Mazinkaiser's eyes flash before firing a pair of devastating yellow beams, your Super Robot's head tilting upward from the recoil. Inova's body parts around the twin beams of Photon Energy, and you give a tut of disappointment when you realize that caused you to miss entirely.

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6Vixq5pEx0

"Five shooter!" Kazuya yells as a set of throwing projectiles pops out of Daimos' legs. He throws them at the wolf made of lightning, who twists and turns to avoid the barrage of ten sharpened knives.

"How...how are the machines of your world so powerful?!" Inova says in a mixture of fright and surprise.

You laugh as you and Kazuya run full tilt at Inova, who desperately back peddles as he realizes he's gotten in over his head.

You, Amuro, and the Magic Knights charge at Zagato, batting aside the bat-like flying creatures that try to get in your way.

"Get ready, Yukari, Zagato doesn't look like he's messing around!" You warn.

Yukari nods, a steely look of resolve on her face.

Amuro is the first to get in range of Zagato's Rune God.

"Something's weighing heavily on his mind. Is this...sadness?" Amuro mutters over the comm.

"It's poor manners to look into someone's mind without permission, warrior of the Magic Knights' world! I'll destroy you for intruding upon her sadness and mine!" Zagato yells.

"'Her'? Don't tell me-" Amuro's train of thought is cut off as he's forced to dodge Zagato's attacks.

Hi-Nu Gundam vs Rune God Chronos
Zagato rushes the Hi-Nu with its sword
vs
Mobility DC 27 = 12 Ability + 10 Mobility + 5 (Newtype 5)
Roll 1d10 + 14 Ability + 2 (High Priest) + 2 (Magic)
Roll 5
5 + 14 + 2 + 2 = 23
Amuro counterattacks with beam rifle
vs
Mobility DC 24 = 14 Ability + 6 Mobility + 2 (High Priest) + 2 (Magic)
Roll 1d10 + 12 Ability + 5 (Newtype 5)
Roll 2
2 + 12 + 5 = 19

Result: Nobody takes any damage, but Zagato is intrigued by Newtypes

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2_Y3w8tKlo

Amuro pulls the Hi-Nu back immediately, barely avoiding the blade of Zagato's Rune God by centimeters. The Hi-Nu dodges to the side, evading a follow up swipe from the high priest. The Hi-Nu jets backward again, leveling its beam rifle at the Chronos. As Amuro fires, Zagato's Rune God rapidly ascends, avoiding most of his shots, with the one round that does connect being deflected by the Chronos' shield.

"So this is how a warrior from the world of the Magic Knights who draws power from feelings fights. Intriguing." Zagato comments.

"Don't get too introspective now!" You retort as you charge at Zagato's Rune God, firing the Dark Lance. Zagato dodges again, scoffing at you.

Before he can target you, the Magic Knights charge Zagato.

"Yaaah!" Hikaru yells.

As the Rune Gods clash, you turn and see the Lottos have managed to bypass the battlefield and are now unloading the ECOAS teams at the base of Zagato's castle. Two of the Lottos transform into mobile suit mode and accompany the infantry into the tunnels, while the other six stay on guard outside, also transforming into mobile suit mode.

A shrill alarm from the Rose's sensors gets your attention. Looks like the Jama Kingdom AND the Council are coming out to play, if the readings are correct.

You sigh before turning your attention back to Zagato, Wing Zero jetting toward your group.

Tactical Information

The ECOAS Infantry teams have managed to infiltrate Zagato's castle. Two Lottos have gone in with them. The remaining six are guarding the entrance.
The Jama Kingdom has appeared. All Kotetsushin Jeeg characters will prioritize them.
The Council is deploying. Force composition is inconclusive, as deployment has not finished yet, but there is an unusual contraption being carried by two CQC units.
Mazinkaiser and Daimos are engaging Inova. They seem to outmatch him.
Wing Zero is moving to assist the fight against Zagato.
Mira, Amuro, and the Magic Knights cannot disengage from Zagato.
Zagato is focusing exclusively on the Magic Knights when someone else isn't attacking him.
Everyone else, including generic forces, are evenly matched against Zagato's forces so far.

Available generic forces:

Clop-class cruiser x2
Argama-class assault carrier x2
Jegan Squad x8
Heavygun Squad x6
Leo Squad x12
ReZEL Squad x8
VF-171 Wing x5
Lotto x6
Akatsuki Squad x7

What is your next course of action?

[ ] Divide and Conquer
-Send the Heavyguns and half the Leos to assist Jeeg characters in fighting Jama Kingdom forces, the ReZELs and VF-171s to assist in fighting the Council alongside the Zeta Gundam, ZZ Gundam, Support ReZEL, Strike Zeta, and the Freedom
-Mazinkaiser and Daimos will continue fighting Inova
-Everyone else will focus on Zagato's forces

[ ] Defend the castle
-Have everyone assume a defensive formation around the entrance to Zagato's castle to prevent Jama Kingdom and Council forces from gaining entry

[ ] Anarchy
-Try to draw in the Jama Kingdom and Council forces so that they'll fight with each other in addition to Zagato's forces
