An interesting note is that both this and the deflector were up for prototype on the frigate but we passed on doing so at that time. Now if there are issues we will find them when making a bigger ship that takes longer to build, which means we probably should be less cautious on prototypes on other ships before we play with the big boys like this because with everything being a potential prototype that leaves a lot of areas for thing to go wrong.

Also if we had done the type 7 engine on the frigate we would have a better idea of what the actual performance is (assuming there are no issues that need to be fixed)

We did choose an option which gave us a lot of extra internal space. I think we can probably afford this.

Going for the two extra thrusters certainly does not present any extra technological risk versus using the prototype design to begin with, so it's really just a space-trade off.

This ship does not need extra-large cargo bays, shuttles or teleporters to fulfil its brief, and simply by virtue of being massive, it's going to have a lot of those things anyway. So all our Internals slots can go on crew comfort, labs, diplomatic spaces, and maybe an expanded medical bay with whatever is left over.

Whilst I admit I think we'd be fine with just the type sevens, we have space in the saucer and this is the flagship, so why not push the envelope particularly as Avidyne seems confident in their work.
