Starship Design Bureau

Honestly, if this winds up having a neck, I'm going to be inclined to vote towards this turning into essentially Adam Ihle's design for the Odyssey-class. Even if our version has a solid neck instead of the split design seen in Ihle's artwork (and is generally slimmed down/shrunken by comparison, to better match the canon Sovereign-class for size), it still seems like a valid design to pick for a hero ship.

2370: Project Sovereign (Propulsion)
[X] Streamlined Hull (Warp Efficiency)

You eventually decide that the savings in warp efficiency and resulting velocity increases are worth cutting back the secondary hull to a more conservative form-factor. The secondary hull slopes down the dorsal surface to a small shuttlebay at the far aft, while below the primary hull it sweeps back towards the deflector. But what deflector?

The first option is a standard anti-proton charged deflector. The Endeavour pioneered the technology and you will have no problem installing it here on the Sovereign. The second option is an ultra-wide deflector, which stretches the dish as wide as possible in order to conserve vertical space. This would give you the opportunity to mount an extra torpedo launcher below the main dish as well as the standard arrangement, but attempting to modify the anti-proton dish in this manner could be touch-and-go.

So uh, does the ultra wide deflector offer any bonuses beyond letting us stick another torpedo in? Cause if thats the case i am uncertain if its worth going for.

Oof, I'm really not sure about this one. Another torpedo launcher would be nice but the deflector dish sounds like one of those finicky components. Probably not quite as bad as the Nacelles but worse than new guns

Personally I wouldn't want to underestimate a whole other frontal torpedo launcher. That sounds like a significant increase in firepower to me. Though I guess I don't know how many we have already?

Ultrawide. We get some chonk, and an extra torpedo bay out of it.

I think we have one launcher that fires 4 torpedoes. This would double it to 2 launchers firing a total spread of 8. Ngl, it's a hefty amount of firepower and basically gets us most of the advantage of the Ushaan disk but IDK how temperamental the deflectors are

So the circular antiproton dish of the canon Sovereign class compared to the ultra wide oval dish of the canon Intrepid class?

Let's not void the warranty out of the box.
