I guess that's why they use detachable nacelles in the 30th century. The burn eliminated all other nacelle manufacturers, leaving only a Yoyodyne monopoly.

It's brilliant! The torpedo can use the nacelle functionality to travel to the target at high speeds, and once it arrives it can simply overload itself to detonate. In Starfleet, we shoot 65% more torpedo per torpedo, because the whole thing is simultaneously propulsion *and* warhead!

Aside from the arguments about what makes for a better combat vessel, there's also the noteworthy factor that improved warp efficiency can mean either higher top speed for the same power draw, or the ability to cut back on the amount of power needed for warp drive in favor of other systems for the same speed.
