Not interested in seeing this play out again the same without being able to do a thing about it.

I presume that you ask about the last one. Plot will happen as it always has, but your Sector will be more in the focus of this quest.
Was referring more how it would impact canon...
Would we Contact Padmé Amidala, would someoe else, or would it change how she would act?

Currently, I would rather throw Palps plans off the rails, would rather not get eaten by the massive nationalizations that Palps pushed during his tenure....

On one hand, the risk of nationalization from Palpatine. On the other, opportunity in the form of wartime contracts as the Clone War begins a decade from now. On the third... the galaxy seems to be turning into a powderkeg regardless, so opportunity either way. And I think the opportunity from lots of smaller regional flashpoints cropping up sooner is more beneficial to us (as a relatively small company compared to the giants of the industry) than a single big war between two large powers.

Plus, if there are lots of smaller conflicts, that means less clone and droid army groups that are in Palps pocket, he will likely adapt, but certainly better than nearly every way he wins clone wars....

Edit: More conflict prior to the main clone wars hopefully translates to local forces, that aren't programmed robots or chipped clones.

If nothing else, a surge of relatively low-intensity conflicts is an excellent backdrop for a ship modeled after the Donnager-class, like what was discussed earlier in the quest.

Getting involved gives us more dice for a better result and bringing down the cost with a small size will be a major advantage here.

Would prefer to see things go in new and interesting ways, This option give the QM a free hand to play in the sandbox and make things happen.

That's not bad. Our test pilot has some skill..... wait. Can we hire test pilots or do we leave this to RX-series pilot droids?

Finish the Cockpit!
You stepped out of the holoprojection of the cockpit and looked towards the attentive Shen. The Duros stood close by, armed with a datapad, and ready to take notes about anything you had going to say. It looked like a cockpit, and all the necessary parts were there. Somehow, your team had managed to squeeze all the needed controls into this thing without leaving anything out. That was impressive, to say the least. You had told your team you wanted to devote as little space as possible to the cockpit, and your team succeeded. That was the good news. The bad news was that the only species who could operate this thing were either very small or didn't possess normal limbs, like tentacles for example. Sadly, the market for those kinds of species was tiny. You chuckled under your breath for a moment, you would need to remember that joke for your father, he loved these unfunny ones.

"And?"

You looked over to Shen when his question forced you out of your thoughts. The young intern looked as if he was ready to start jumping. On his face was a look of morbid excitement, it seemed he knew what your assessment would be. Shen's job was to program this giant projection, so he had seen the complete version first. On flimsi, it had looked as if it would work out, but seeing it on a 1:1 scale had put that out of your head. This cockpit was a disaster in the making. Oh, it worked, but it was unbelievably uncomfortable to use it.

"It's bad." You shook your head and sighed. You had helped to create this mess, better not forget that. "The only good thing about this cockpit is that it works and has all the stations needed in the cockpit of a light freighter. There it ends, and the bad news begins. It is too cramped for most species, the arrangement of the systems is just … I don't know where to begin. No one will buy the ship if they have the chance to take a look into the cockpit. At least, not if their mind works right."

"That was what I thought, but all isn't lost, boss." Shen gave you a smile. "With a few modifications, we can get it to work. You just said it, all that is needed is there. It is just a mess when it comes to where these things are and how to use them. We just have to change the layout a bit."

"A bit," you repeated after Shen, not believing what you just heard. Angrily, you pointed towards the projection of the cockpit. "That needs more than just a few changes to the layout to make it work. It's simply too much into too little space."

"Yeah, I know what you mean, boss. But you've got to believe me, with a bit of rearranging the layout, we will make it workable."

"I don't know Shen, maybe we should just give in and accept we need more space for the cockpit." You sigh. "I will think about it. But I will read your proposal. It's on the pad?"

Shen nodded.

[ ] Accept Shen's proposal and rework the layout somehow. (-2 Advantages, -2 Flaws +2 Cost)
[ ] Just make the cockpit a bit larger, then it works just fine. (Size: Normal, -4 Flaws, Cost 4)
[ ] Just hope the marketing can come up with an excuse.

Name: Mk.1 Light Freighter Cockpit
Size: Small
Maneuverability: 1
Weapons: 1
Advantage: 2
Flaw: 4
Cost: 0

The meetings with your father in the evening after work took place more often as you both found yourself glued to the HNN. The political thriller that took place before the eyes of the galaxy in the Senate was just unbelievable. It almost made one forget what the reason for all of this was. You suddenly understood what the Queen of Naboo had started, and it seemed that your father had been right. No one paid any attention to the crisis that had started all of this any more. Right after Valorum had been voted out, three candidates had been named that had the best chances of winning the newly opened position of Chancellor.

Bail Antilles, the senator of Aldeeran, had been the candidate of the Core. Following a well-established pattern, the Core rallied behind one of their own and ignored the other candidates. Antilles had served a number of years in the Senate. He was known as the leader of the Core faction in the Senate. His most frequent opponent in the Senate was Ainlee Teem from Malastare and leader of the Rim faction. It had been Ainlee Teem who had helped the Trade Federation grow its own security forces so much. A fact that was now turned against him, and he was harshly attacked by Antilles and the Core faction.

In return, the Rim faction pointed out that Antilles had proposed that some systems should be completely cut off from any trade when pirates of the Nebular front had attacked the Trade Federation massively in the Outer Rim. This had been the reason why they had even been allowed to amass so many forces. And as these two juggernauts continued to smear each other with dirt, the third candidate garnered his support. This candidate was Sheev Palpatine of the Chomell sector and a native of Naboo.

Of the three candidates, it looked like Palpatine had the best chances as he was widely liked and seen as someone who stood above the corruption that was plaguing the Senate for decades. He also was seen as an outsider, someone both factions could at least work with, and he had a considerable boost of sympathy that many felt for the situation his homeworld was going through. Many wished for him to receive the chancellery as they thought he could bridge the differences between the Core worlds and the Rim worlds.

Palpatine's loudest and without question mightiest opponent was Lott Dod, the Senator of the Trade Federation. His argument was simple but had many people agreeing. He feared that Palpatine would be not neutral in this matter – a simple trade dispute between two members of the Republic – and would put his homeworld first. Some agreed with Dod and said that, as reliable Palpatine had been, no one could be completely neutral towards his homeworld. It was an argument you understood, but you knew why Lott Dod had brought it forth. The maneuver lacked elegance, and his argument was quickly dismissed.

It was Palpatine who won in the end and became Chancellor. For your part, you were glad. Of all the presented candidates, he was the right man in your eyes. He came from the Mid Rim and wasn't part of any factions in the Senate, a blank slate without any allies he needed to appease. His biography was a bit boring, but given the various crises the Republic had faced in the last year, that spoke more for him than against him. He also had a reputation for being reasonable and finding ways to compromise where others couldn't. It seemed as if he was the right man to bring peace to the galaxy again and calm things down.

While all of this was going on, it was almost forgotten that the young Queen had left Coruscant. But she didn't run back to her world, hoping somehow to reconquer her world from the Trade Federation. Like her move in the Senate, she had something far more cunning planned. The almost desperate move had been a ruse as the Trade Federation soon discovered when Queen Amidala used the local resistance of her people to attack Theed, the capital of the world. Before she did that, an army of native Gungans had made sure that the majority of the troops of the Trade Federation were far away from the capital.

Still, the Trade Federation had full control over the orbit. This could've broken Amidala's plan had she not thought about it. She sent her fighters against the droid control ship in an almost desperate attempt to destroy it. As soon as the Trade Federation had sent their fighters to intercept the laughable effort of the Naboo to destroy their ship, the trap set by the Queen snapped close. Suddenly, a fleet of light ships fell out of hyperspace, close to the droid control ship, and attacked it where its mighty quad-lasers couldn't defend it. The fleet was under the command of the pirate and full-time mercenary Captain Nym, who had a letter of marque from the Queen.

All of this happened so fast, nobody registered it until it was over. Lott Dod made some accusations against the Queen of Naboo that she was harboring pirates. But nobody truly listened to him after the atrocities became known to the galaxy. Apparently, the Trade Federation had established camps where the civil population was relocated. That was legal under the Galactic Law of War, but it wasn't legal to starve the civilians. Nute Gunray, Viceroy of the Trade Federation, would face legal actions for his part in this.

You and your father could only watch the events unfold, stunned. You couldn't help yourself and concentrate on other ramifications than your father. He was far more concerned with the implications all of this would have for politics, you saw an opportunity. The Temaris Defense Fleet was made up of old Hammerheads, even if they were planned to be replaced by a single Dreadnought in two years. It had been a dumb move when they had announced it. After all, what would Temaris need such a big ship for?

Now things looked a bit different to you. Naboo had shown the galaxy what could happen if the defense of a world was underequipped. A Dreadnought would be a tough nut to crack, even for the mighty ships of the Trade Federation. But even a Dreadnought couldn't hold out against another capital ship and a giant swarm of fighters. On Naboo, it had shown that light ships could be useful in warfare and bigger wasn't always better. And if there was something the Temaris Defense Fleet was lacking, then it was light units. A Dreadnought needed an escort after all.

What would you suggest your father offer the Temaris Defense Fleet?

[ ] A new Starfighter.
[ ] A new Corvette for escort and police duties.

[X] A new Corvette for escort and police duties

fighters are good for short patrols, but corvettes are better for escort and pirate fighting

[X] Just make the cockpit a bit larger, then it works just fine. (Size: Normal, -4 Flaws, Cost 4)

The cost isn't great but we have no choice we rolled shit and have to pay the cost to remove the flaws. Also a light corvette built around anti-fighter and light warship duties is better. There are plenty of fighters around that they can get and we might be able to acquire the Hammerheads for our own refit program in a few years. Having the ships and a steady rep built up from now until the Heavy Cruiser arrives will make them more likely to agree. That way an updated and rebuilt pair of Hammerhead medium sized capital ships will be available for use or to be sold to another planet.

honestly a brand new successor design would be far better the old hammerheads. even with the updates the model is gonna stop being competitive with the arms race I'm expecting to happen.

That is what the rebuild is for. Instead of just slapping new weapons on it the whole thing would be broken down and redone from the ground up. Allowing for a full update that makes the Hammerhead a powerful frigate on par or better than anything currently in existence and as strong as a Nebulon-B just without the comms or the sensor that make the Neb-B a very good command ship.
