Even if we roll a 1 for damage roll, the base attack power mean they still go down in one hit.

This also show why we should absolutely not buy obsolete ships even if they're cheap: They just can't perform well enough unless we have the cash to burn to invest in them.

I imagine Fox have the Arwings plans stashed on the Great Fox and it's an option to build more later. But until we get the money flowing in and someone to trust with those (AKA Slippy), that option is pretty much locked for now.

"Maxine, Nichole, and Hannah will take the Arwings with me and we four will join together into the primary offense squad. Our job is to seek out the enemy targets and and eliminate them, hopefully reducing their number enough so that they can't do too much harm to the Great Fox. It will also be our job to destroy the enemy ships, since the Great Fox might not be that able to hit fighter reliably. With the Arwing's advantages over the obsolete fighters and scout pods the enemy uses, we should not have too much difficulty in defeating them."

Maxine looks thoughtful. "I see... and what about the gunboat, Fox?"

"The gunboat will be given to Rover," you continued. "Her job is to help the Great Fox by attacking any ship that actually slips past the Arwings and destroy them. With the firepower the Orbital has, combined with the Great Fox's own durability, I do not think she will have a problem even if she do this task alone...

Victoria, you will stay here aboard the Great Fox and help out ROB in controlling the ship. I do not have a spare fighter for you to pilot nor do we have enough drone fighters to control to make a difference. And I bet that even with your inexperience, you can help in this battle in a bigger vessel."

Victoria sighed. "Thank you, Fox."

Hannah raised her hand and you acknowledged her.

"Fox," she started. "What about the Nova bombs? Do we have permission to use them? I meant, if we used them on these pirates, I predict that we can wipe them out in record time."

You shook your head. "That would be true, but we do not have too much money now and those smart bombs cost money. I am not allowing their use unless it is a real emergency or there are enough targets to justify their use. And if you want to use them, then you must have my permission; ask first."

You sighed. "That is the end of this briefing. I want everyone who will participate in this battle to be in space with their assigned craft in fifteen minutes and ready for battle..."

Fifteen minutes later, you are in your Arwing and being launched into space from the Great Fox's hanger, closely followed by Maxine, Nichole, and Hannah. A few more seconds later, Rover and the Orbital was launched out into space...

You surveyed the area around you. You can see that you are near a small patch of asteroids not too far from Corneria itself. The asteroids have extensive mining stations that are long since abandoned since all of the precious minerals and metals are gone. This creates an unfortunate hazard of being convenient hiding spots for opportunistic pirates to ambush unsuspecting prey. Fortunately, the local Cornerian Mercenary board often sends people to this area to clean out any pirates that happens to take up residence. And now, it is that time again.

Not a second later, Maxine's voice rang through your communicator.

"Umm... Fox? I think the pirates spotted us. They seemed to be heading this way. And-"

"Yeargh!" An angry and crude voice suddenly interrupted. "Look who dares to come to One Hand's lair! Our very first catch ever! Up and at them, boys and girls! Time to turn their ship's to junk!"

Not missing a beat, Nichole fired back on her communicator. "I like to see you try! See these Arwings? We are Star Fox and we will crush you!"

Laughter was the response Nichole gotten. "Right... as if the 'illustrious' Fox ever hire a girl. Last time I check, he's gay! Why else he lives with three other men for months without any women on board?!"

A flare of anger flashed within you but you squashed it down. Now is not the time to lose your cool. You need to start issuing orders to your teammates...

By 'orders', do you mean we simply say who targets whom,for the first phase? Or plan out a specific strategy, for the entire fight?

I am on my smartphone since my Internet at home is not working for some reason, so I'll be brief as possible.

When I mean orders, I mean just for this round. You basically specify which squads do what for this turn to what other squad. And if you want to use special abilities like the charged laser shot, specify who or whom will do it and the targets.

In the next round of combat, you can give the same orders or different ones.

Err... I'm going to say here this may not be the best idea for a combat system... Just the idea of map logistics and that not everyone should be able to go for anyone is making my head hurts a bit...

It's a small force and we're pretty much face to face this time but later on, that's really not going to be the case... Flanking, rear attack, ambush... And then maybe we'll want to keep the Great Fox as far as possible of a fight it has no business being in. Like this one, because its guns are pretty much not made to fight light crafts.

Anyway, I'll have comments and suggestions after this fight for sure. As for orders now... I think things will turn out alright if we just went autopilot for strategy. Just eliminating one squad after another.
 
Of course, you can indeed run this battle on autopilot. Just tell me to autopilot this battle and I will resolve it with the more basic strategies. Of course, since it is indeed on auto-resolve, the results might not be the most optimal...
 
The post is being made, but a sudden road trip and house painting session has cut down the amount of time I have this Independence Day weekend by more than half. So it might be a while before the next post goes up.

And as soon the gunboat got within range, the turrets lit up with bright laser beams! The multiple turrets allowed Rover and her gunboat to target the remaining scout pod and the lone fighter at the same time and destroy them with ease! Two explosions lit up the darkness of space as the two craft disintegrated!

"Enemy craft destroyed, sir," Rover spoke to you through the communicator. "The Great Fox is no longer in danger."

"Thanks, Rover," you replied. "Continue to guard the ship."

You then turned the communicator to your squad-mates.

It is more like a "curb-stomp slaughter-fest from the nightmares of space or something like that," according to Falco if he was here. However, despite the huge amount of losses, the last remaining fighter decided to try to shoot at one of your squad, namely Maxine…

...And it completely missed all of its shots, to absolutely no one's surprise. The gap in performance between the first Venomian Invader and the Arwing is simply too great to overcome, especially for a relative newcomer.

A surrender? Well, considering that the pirates lost their leader and almost all of their numbers without even managing to hit any of your ships, you can see why she is surrendering. However, you do know that you do not have to accept and you can have someone blast her pathetic fighter away without complaint.

And you have two volunteers for the job.

"Fox?" Maxine said. "Can we really trust her to keep her word? She just tried to shoot me not a minute ago. I think that is enough to prove her intentions."

"Oh, let me shoot her down!" Nichole interrupted. "I can do the job!"

Anyway, the pirate surrendering is something that will not happen very often. It is just that the circumstances of this battle makes it fit perfectly...
