Crash land where, I have to ask.

And I am surprised that I did not have too many people comment about the two new mechanics that I have posted. Was it actually that thorough? I was impressed.

Wait, so to take a wanted man alive, you want to damage it enough so it will go crashing into a planet where the environment outside is quite hostile or easy to hide in (Fichina, Fortuna, Venom, Titania, any of the asteroids), is quite waterlogged (Aquas, Zoness), or is sufficiently civilized that someone is going to be very cross with atmospheric fighting taking place (Corneria, Macbeth, Papetoon), all while considering the fact that it is not a guarantee that the wanted person will even survive the crash landing...

I do not see how this is a bad idea! :V

On a side note, it seems that there was a glitch in the latest map files and somehow Katina was missing, so there was a patch sent out to correct that grave mistake.

Map is updated.

I do not see how this is a bad idea! :V
Hey, it's not like we're picking where we fight. And if you prefer space, then the ship can just be forced to drift until someone else arrive then.

Anyway...

And I am surprised that I did not have too many people comment about the two new mechanics that I have posted. Was it actually that thorough? I was impressed.
Do remember we have yet to see how an actual battle go. The numbers may look nice at first glance, but how will they actually hold up oonce in use? We have yet to see.

Hey, it's not like we're picking where we fight. And if you prefer space, then the ship can just be forced to drift until someone else arrive then...
Listen, we could go on and on about how to capture someone alive without boarding action, but trying to implement them in the quest will result in too much complexity to be beneficial for my head. So, let's hold on these ideas for now.

I'm looking forward the the first combat update. Its difficult for me to get a feel for how a system is supposed to go, unless I see an actual combat scenario played out.

Well, I myself have no doubt the fight won't be much of an issue, unless crazy dice rolls. The arwings are that good.

Too bad getting more would cost us a limb or two per ship.

The main thing I got from boarding is we may want to pick up a few security experts to keep the great fox safe
Between its shields and the fact we would be on it fast if any attempt was tried, on top of the fact that the Great Fox shouldn't normally be in the theater of operations, it would kinda be an excessive measure with our current money issues.

If we looted a shuttle to launch, that would be another thing however. As it is, we need to build back our money before spreading what we can do.

OMAKE: Taunts from Star Wolf
So I felt like writing a small omake for this...

-----

Subject: I'm writing this to laugh at you.
So this is how the 'mighty' Star Fox team go down? Under bills and lack of financial-planning skills? Nice to see how heroism pays in the long run, Fox.

Re:
Now how the hell ddi you get ahold of this adress, Wolf?

And remind me, how much was worth the two generations of the Wolfens we scrapped again?

Re:Re:
Probably a lot. Good think I took the blueprints while Andross footed the bills back then, huh?

Still less than what it cost you to repair the Great Fox. How i wish I could see your face when the missiles started slamming into it.

And now I'm most amused to hear about your new 'teammates'.

Re:Re:Re:
What the hell do you even know about them? It hasn't even been a week!

Re:Re:Re:Re:
Well, what I know, not much. But if I were to trust some medias...

>Fox McCloud: Playboy nature revealed?
>The symbol of war's victoy being turned into a party boat?
>The battle that led to Star Fox's current crisis: A tactical failure that was in fact a cunning plan to replace team members?

Should I show you a few more?

Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:
Oh dear God no...

Well, still better than being on a team with a goddamn traitor and a uncle boy.

Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:
Was on a team. I kicked out the pig when he tried to steal money from me and Andrew was never a good pilot to start with. He was planning to leave anyway to...

No, I think I'll keep that one secret for now.

Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:
Well, this cannot be good. But he's completely deluded if he think he'll do better than Andross.

And frankly? Good job kicking Pigma out. Even if it's too much to hope he died in a ditch somewhere.

Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:
Incidentally, I did pick up a new member. Maybe I should go find you to 'present' him. I'm sure he'll appreciate your new team members too.

Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:
Do try. There's a cell here with your name on it, just waiting for you.

Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:
That we'll see... I WILL take you down someday.

Capricorn 12th, 5 ALW: Battle 1, Preperations
[X] Freelance, Pirate Hunting:
That bounty on that pirate group is getting bigger and bigger. Not only that, there are quite a few bounty hunters requesting information about this pirate group, with likely intentions that they'll hunt them down. At this rate, someone's going to claim it and it is quite certain that it will not be there next week. Hopefully, that somebody is you.
Payment: 800 LD+1 Dice Roll for some extra loot.

Your research into the pirate group that Star Fox will hunt tomorrow was briefly but annoyingly interrupted by the insulting mockery from the leader of your group's biggest criminal rivals: Wolf O'Donnell of the mercenary group Star Wolf. During the little heated exchange between the two of you, there were a few facts that you learned…

First of all, there was a little bit of a shake up in Star Wolf's membership. The traitorous pig, Pigma, was apparently booted out of the team for being too greedy even for Wolf. Indeed, deep down, even you were a bit surprised that Pigma managed to sink so low that criminals actually hate him out of… moral reasons. As for Andross's nephew, Andrew, he apparently left out of his own volition for something that Wolf is not willing to reveal. Although you should be worried what in the world that monkey was planning, investigating him will have to wait for another day when the weight of debt is not so suffocating. It also seemed that Wolf picked up a new member somewhere. You wonder who could it be and how good is he to be chosen by Wolf. Wolf tend to have high standards when choosing teammates, Pigma and Andrew being rare exceptions to this rule.

The other, more embarrassing, fact that you have learned is that some tabloid reporter has discovered that you are recruiting for Star Fox in the recent days, noticed that all of your recruits are female, and concluded that you have turned into a perverted playboy and turned the Great Fox into "a party boat", to quote from them. You felt a burning feeling of embarrassment and anger at what has happened. While you really do not care too much about what some quarter-a-dozen paparazzi say about you, you dread the thought of having this reputation haunt you for a very long time…

As you continue to research the pirate group until your bedtime, you continued to shudder at the possible things people say about you, especially your former teammates…

"Fox, I know that you have to recruit more pilots to... replace us, but is there a particular reason why they are all women? I know you might be desperate for… company of the opposite sex, but don't you dare think about taking advantage of them. Your father would be quite cross with you."

"Well gee, I did not know that you are this popular with women, Fox. You know, I have been reading up on the kinds of gifts to give to women lately during break time at work. May I help you on buying flowers for your new… teammates? Or they prefer chocolate or perfume? I guess if it was shoes or jewelry, I could help you out..."

"Pheh. Fox, I hope you know what you are getting yourself into. Having cute girls beside you all the time might sound like fun, but they can be a big headache eventually. On that note, you can trust me, since I have quite a bit of experience with Katt…"

Morning comes a bit too quickly, but you have managed to be rested. Soon after breakfast, you had ROB guide the Great Fox towards the suspected location of the pirates…

The next time you heard from ROB, it was during your pre-mission briefing with the rest of your teammates.

"Fox, this is ROB. The pirates' location is confirmed and within sensor range of the Great Fox. They have not noticed Star Fox yet. ROB also confirms that their observed strength matches all known reports about them. What are your further orders?"

"Thanks, ROB," you replied. "Hold Great Fox's position here until the briefing is over."

"Acknowledged."

You took a deep breath as you resumed the briefing.

"Alright everyone. You hear that? That means our first battle is almost here. I know this is our first battle together and for some of us, this will be your first battle ever. However, do not be afraid. I have no intentions for anyone dying today, not on my watch. And from what I have researched, we should have many advantages over the enemy, firepower, ships, experience, technology, you name it. They might have the numbers advantage for now, but I am confident that this will not be enough to save them.

But I am warning all of you that this does not mean that you are all free to be careless. Carelessness costs lives and not even I can help you from dying if you act recklessly. I am sure you all are looking forward to survive this battle. Remember your training, stay frosty, and follow my orders, and I guarantee you that you will all come out of this alive. On that note, I will also not tolerate cowardice in battle. If I catch you running today, you are out of the team, no exceptions. Do you all understand that?"

A chorus of affirmative statements rang through the room.

"Good. Now, here is the plan for this battle…"

Victoria Quincy
Generic Pilots (1)

Available Ships and Drones:
Great Fox
Arwing Mk. 1 (4)
Orbital Gunboat, Mk. 1 (1)
Bumblebee-Class Small Mining/Scavenging Drone (4)
Dagger-class Small Fighter Drone (1)

[] Plan out the squads to send into battle.

=====
This will be a learning experience for all of us. I will use this battle to test out the battle system and to learn how to better organize information for future battles. You all will probably learn how the battle system works in action.

If you have any questions or comments, please say them.

Ok, tentative plan;

Fox McCloud
Maxine Cheetah
Nichole Cathy
"Harmful Hands" Hannah Jackson
-Arwing Mk. 1 (4)

Generic Pilot
-Orbital Gunboat, Mk. 1 (1)

Victoria Quincy
ROB
-Great Fox

Hmm. Quick question, does having Victoria control the Drones, while ROB pilots the ship count for Victoria gaining combat experience?

I too have a question: Are we splitting up? Does splitting up change the bonuses? (Say, if we send a newb and fox after one group, another newb and Hannah after another group, do they all still get bonuses from fox?)
[x] Plan Split the party!
Who pilots what
Fox McCloud
Maxine Cheetah
Nichole Cathy
"Harmful Hands" Hannah Jackson
-Arwing Mk. 1 (4)

Generic Pilot
-Orbital Gunboat, Mk. 1 (1)

Victoria Quincy (Watching only!)
ROB
-Great Fox

Where each one is:

Awings meet up into a group, start kicking arse.

Gunboat sticks to The great fox, alongside the single attack drone.

Hmm... I have remembered that I still need to come up with rules for situations when multiple characters are piloting the same ship...

How about this for now until I can flesh out the mechanics later: Victoria will gain experience for any ship downed by the Great Fox's drones or Great Fox herself. That will be temporary until I can revise the rules into something more permanent.

You can deploy squads without the full leadership values (i.e. deploy three fighters into a squad vs four). But the units in the other squads will not get the bonuses that Fox will give out since the effects would be limited to HIS squad. Read the effects description carefully.

Good to know!

Changed it such that they stick together.

There's no reason to split the squad here, the pirates will not flee from their home base. We can take them as they come. Our two greens can try shooting them first before Hannah and Fox join in to remove any ship that dodged or still fly somehow.

@dnzrx Could we specify wingmen? That way Fox and Hannah and watch one of the newbies each but at the same time remain the larger formation?
Are you asking if you can have Fox and Hannah babysit one of the newbies while having all four remaining in the same squad?

The answer is yes, they will keep an eye on them, but since the enemy attacks units withing a squad at random (unless a leader is present, then they might try to focus down on someone in particular), I am not sure how keeping an exclusive eye on them will be helpful.
