Spin, Oh Sword of Fate! [Fire Emblem: Fates/M:tAw/Book of Swords]

What do we do regarding Supports and Children?

  • I hate supports and the child units and I want both systems to BURN.

  • I hate child units, but Supports are all right as long as they don't have anything to do with rolls.

  • I hate child units, but Supports are perfectly fine, and I am fine with improving rolls.

  • I love Supports, and think Children are perfectly fine as long as they don't become units.

  • I love Supports and I want Child Units to maximize our gains and for storytelling potential.

Sure, you can, the problem is, A) Where are you putting the naginata?, and B) I haven't finalized whether I want to count specific #'s of arrows or not.

A) Carry the naginata like before, hang the bow over Mozu's shoulder.

B) ...you're on your own for this one. Personally though I would count them until we got to a point in the story that it can be assumed that Mozu has enough of them.

She didn't know how long she spent crying, but when she finally looked up, the sun had disappeared beneath the trees. Blinking away the remains of her tears, Mozu turned in the direction through the rocky valley. "I need to get out of here," she whispered to herself, her mind incapable of thinking of anything else with how exhausting the day has been. Picking up her mother's bow and quiver, she counted how many arrows were left and set the bow and quiver on her back.

Arrows left: (d8:3)+5=8 arrows left

With that said, she began to jog on top of the smaller rocks.

Mozu: Roll to not take a tumble, DC 30: 22+10 (Agility)+3 (1/2 of Precision)-10 (Jogging on the rocks)=25, Bare Failure

One of the rocks caught her foot, and Mozu tripped and fell, bruising herself slightly with the impact.
Mozu HP: 14->13

With that, she continued onward, eventually moving past the rocky territory and finding herself at the edge of the woods. She stopped however, when she saw a faceless guarding the edge. This faceless was slightly larger than the others, and it had a marking of some sort on it's shoulder. A sergeant of some sort?

CHAPTER BOSS ENCOUNTERED: FACELESS SERGEANT, LV. 5

Faceless Sergeant: Contested Roll for perception: 64+7 (Precision)-5 (Reduced Senses)=66

Suddenly, the air around her seemed to grow hazy before becoming clear once more, for what reason she did not know.

???: Reroll utilized: 64 38+7 (Precision)-5 (Reduced Senses)=40
Results: Success!

Luckily, the larger Faceless didn't spot her when she stopped, instead turning it's head absentmindedly to look in another direction. Taking this opportunity to scan her surroundings, she noticed a gleaming sword with a black hilt to the left of the monster, which shone even in this hour of twilight and shade. Seeing a couple of logs she could hide behind for cover, she began to formulate a plan.

A/N: Welp, here we are with the first boss in the quest. As you can tell, he's three levels higher than you and he's got boosted stats to match. We've also encountered a certain sword just nearby it. What I wish to do with this quest is to give you guys options on how to deal with most situations, and when it comes to Bosses and more complicated affairs, the ability to create plans on what to do. To give some parameters on what this plan must include:

-You must defeat the boss in combat (I'm not allowing a pacifist option here, for contrived reasons I'll explain later, but mostly so that you guys get a sense of how powerful future encounters will be, Mom's death notwithstanding. :()
-You must pick up the sword (if you don't, then the quest is meaningless)

And that's about it. If you get those two things down, I'll allow any plan. And make sure that those of you who can't come up with a plan will still at least vote on one, so that I know which plan we're going with.

So get to planning, and good luck!:) Discussion on planning begins now, Voting for plans will begin at 11:00 AM PST, 2:00 PM EST and will end at 7:00 PM PST, 10:00 PM EST tonight.

[X] Sneak around the Boss
-[X] Try to grab the sword. Might be useful.
--[X] If boss sees you, make a run for it and grab the sword
---[X] Try to fend him of with it
--[X] If it doesn't see you, try to stab it in the back

That's all I got.

[X] Plan METAL GEAR!
-[X] Pick up a stone and toss it in the direction away from you, the sword, and the path to said sword.
-[X] Quietly make your way to said sword, and pick it up, before moving back into counter. (Hopefully their isn't any Flashing Lights to signify our having picked it up due to Dramatics. If there is, hopefully it all happens at the speed of thought to avoid getting killed while trying to cope with the sudden situation.)
-[X] Once back in cover, leave the Naginata on the floor, and the sword right next to you, ready to be picked up and used at a moments notice. See if you can find higher ground (If not, just stay where you are at), pull out your bow and shoot at the Faceless. If confident enough to fire again and still have time to drop it and pick up the sword before moving, then do so.
-[X] Pick up sword.

You know, I feel kinda bad that the first bit of music posted in the thread is MGS:R. Not because Rising is bad, but because Fates has the best OST in the franchise. So let's go with something much more appropriate. Hoshido music even!

(if I were really funny I'd post the Warriors version )

Mozu HP: 17/20

Nodding her head, Mozu came up with a plan on the fly. She grabbed a nearby rock, and chucked at a tree far too the right of the Faceless.

Mozu: Contested Roll to distract: 96+5 (Precision)+4 (1/2 of Strength)+10 (Decent Cover, crouching down)-10 (Weapon Accuracy)=105
Faceless: Contested Roll to not be distracted: 37+7 (Precision)+1 (1/2 of Intelligence)+5 (Reduced Senses)-10 (Blocked by shrubbery)=40
Result: Critical Success!
Mozu: Critical Success rolled, Roll to acquire trait: 47, no trait acquired.

Like a Gottan, the Faceless' overeagerness to find new targets played itself. When it heard the rock hit the tree, it chased after it, believing it to be an intruder in the area. With it's attention taken up by the rock, the creature missed Mozu sneaking up behind it and grabbing the sword which seemed to call to her, before swiftly hiding behind another patch of bushes up higher on the hill. When that was done, she put the sword down along with her naginata onto the ground. Finally, her preparations complete, she brought out her mother's bow, nocked back an arrow, aimed at the still distracted monster, and fired.

This time a bit more slowly, it turned around once more. Hardly believing her luck, Mozu nocked once again an arrow and let it fly.

Turning around faster than she thought it could, it turned around and swatted the projectile out of the air. Entirely frustrated, it decided to just charge in her general direction. Panicking at the incoming wall of flesh, Mozu...

It took all the strength she had to knock away the initial charge, and with her temporary disorientation, the Faceless took the opportunity to swing a fist at her.

Swiping at the monster's shoulder, her blade cut deeply, nearly severing the arm as it too began to leak the black blood of the other wound. Enraged, the Faceless swung it's undamaged arm Mozu's way.

A/N: *Yawns* Man did that take a while. Even with your super duper new magic sword, Mozu still struggled to kill the boss. Considering he was 3 levels higher, and had more HP than is usual for his kind, that's kind of to be expected now that I think about it.

As for those "Desperate Rerolls"? Basically, I give you guys (or rather, the sword gives you guys) a free reroll per update, which is automatically spent on the first time it would be needed. You can also automatically use "Desperate Rerolls" which can A) Only activate if the Free reroll is used up, B) Only activate in times of Critical Failure, and C) Can only activate up to twice per Contested Roll, or once per standard roll. A new number is rolled, and then either Replaces Mozu's roll or the enemies' roll (in the case of a Contested roll) depending on where it would be more useful. Each use of the "Desperate Reroll" currently is automatic (you can shut it off later, but not right now), and every time a desperate reroll is used per update, it rolls Xd6, where X is the current number of Desperate Reroll's used, and adds the total to a score. A score I can not reveal as of yet, but one which I will reveal eventually and which you want to increase as little as possible. Trust me, it can be a really bad thing if it hits a certain number. This is why you would even want to turn off the Desperate Rerolls later in the story.

Of course, now the encounter is done with, and in the next few updates we're going to rolling the story along and eventually introducing our Main Character to her new weapon! Oh, and we leveled up again. I already stated the rules for the level-ups above, and I'm having the cut-off time for the point distribution be 6:00 PM PST, 9:00 PM EST Tomorrow. I know I keep flip-flopping around with these cut-off times, but considering my weird work schedule, and how it's a bit fluid right now, I don't exactly have a standard time which I'm home by to write these updates. I hope you can forgive me for this.

Well, that's all I needed to say. Be off, my readers!:p
