...

You know that moment of realization, when you figure out you've been doing something utterly wrong?

Yeah, that's me right now.

Heads up, it doesn't feel good.

I really should have started with this, but PtV is in charge of keeping Alex contained in a sense. It's focus it to make sure Alex will believe in Cauldron's purpose and his place in it. The second that that is done, Alex can call home whenever he wants.

However, PtV wants to ensure his loyalty first then allow him to talk to his family.

I'm just gunna... be over here...wondering why it took me so long to figure that out.

This... this is really really hard to answer without spoiling something in the future.

But I can see where you are coming from. On one hand, you can see it as basically you guys driving while Contessa holds the map. If that is the case, there isn't much point for a quote un quote 'quest' if no matter what you chose it ends up as Contessa planned.

But for the most part, Contessa won't be the one controlling things, you will. She can if she wants, but right now she has no reason to beyond getting your feet under you and training. The second that that is done, her work is done for the most part. PtV is focused on other things that will result from your actions, not dictate them.

As a mechanic, she's going to be doing things in the background to make sure that your choices stick. Take for instance, you guys going out and being heroes. She'll be in the background making sure you have a good public image to start, and you get support from congress.

In the grand scheme of things, controlling gravity is the weakest ability in your powerset.
Indeed, should have started with that in the first place.

I am going to take a guess and agree with the guy a bit above me. Our other powers are control of other fundamental forces. Maybe.

huh Gravity isn't our only power? so Time/space bullshit then with Gravity being a side effect?

[X] Someone who was given a choice. It allstarted in that room in the hospital. If you had said no, you wouldn't have these powers. Now, you're left with the choice of what to do with them.

Everybody is given a choice and we made a choice.

You know, you might have to keep that gif tabbed if you keep on at this rate.

How do I miss these things?

Edited out, now I'm going through the next chapter to make sure I don't do this... AGAIN!

We're immune to PtV good to know.
Alternately the path is retroactive, or Contessa actually got the Bluff shard.

Its the Golden Fuck You power.
Universal Frequency/Wavelength manipulation. Aka omnikinesis.

As for PtV, basically forging strong internal Cauldron bonds first to prevent him going civilian. It wouldn't keep him away because that sort of thing destabilizes in the mid term and generates points of failure.

*quickly does that without trying to attract attention*

... this will be worth it in the end.

Also, since I never really went into detail, this is what I'm using as the description of Rebecca outside her suit and without sunglasses.

Yes she is supposed to be hispanic slightly, but a good friend showed it to me and it just fits to well in my eyes. Her character sheet and backstory will be added to the character page momentarily. Until then, sorry it's taking so long for the next chapter to come out. I'm working on it, but tests have come in and just curbstomped my creative energy. At least they end soon.

The very act of manipulating a fundamental force grants the ability to manipulate the other fundamental forces indirectly. Gravity manipulation is basically control over distortions in the field we consider spacetime, which confers control over both space and time individually. Almost any of the breaker powers are generally absolutely bullshit with what could be accomplished.

Even Legend in canon who could fly at a fraction of the speed of light could have basically sent himself to the future. Greyboy? Phir Se? Those guys are on a whole other level of bullshit.

@IKnowNothing the PtV shard is plot fuckery of the highest order. You have to basically assume that the user (or the person designing the wording of the plan) is operating on a faulty premise or that the choices of a third, involved, party don't affect the outcome of the plan. This is how wildbow made the whole thing work.

So here's a bit of analysis from a private convo:

So, in regards to Contessa and the Path to Victory issue that has popped up recently ...
She is fate itself; an impossible plot point, and debating whether or not an action was taken according to her plans is something philosophers have been debating for centuries. It's pointless.
As the players we basically have to ignore her presence. She just is.

Keep in mind, in canon Worm, her overarching path was achieved, AKA the Path to Victory was completed to the set conditions. It can be argued that any other Path she took was in support of that, that all of the terrible consequences of her and Doctor Mother's decisions were, in the end, necessary. It's impossible to say.

Contessa is going to be a Fantastic wingman. Woman. Whatevs.

Just read through this quest and I just gotta say, take your time. This is a well written, high potential quest. Thank you for writing and take as much time as you need to keep making art.

Also, that picture has convinced me that Rachel is best Waifu.

Lastly, how about Atlas for a hero name guys?
He held the world on his shoulders (fits our character and the latest votes take on responsibility). And also it has something to do with gravity, holding up the world.

So we control gravity, grav gun anyone? I mean we can probability excelerate a piece of metal fast enough to annihilate a planet.

Just to put this into perspective, when Alex for lack of a better term, flicks the off switch on something's gravity, he's making it fly through the air at about 67,000 miles per hour.

And that is just hitting the off switch, he has yet to increase the pressure or aim it.

Think on that for a second. Fun times to be had, am I right? :D

You know this brings up a point I was ignoring because superhero story.
Where did you get that speed?

At it's core, when Alex gets that speed is because he removes the effect of the earth's gravity on an object.

So, it has nothing to hold it down. Laws of momentum and acceleration says that even though an object at rest but still inside an object that is moving, it is still going the same speed as that object which is moving. Once it is no longer held down by that object, or is ejected from that object like being thrown from a moving car, it continues to move at that speed.

The speed of the earth as it flies through space is 430 meters per second, roughly 67,000 mph. That is where I get the number as a base.

...
So what you are saying is that his power could actually cause an object to burrow into the earth at 67,000mph if he's standing on the face of the earth with is perpendicular to the direction that the earth is travelling?

I think we might need a discussion about how inertial reference frames and momentum works.

That doesn't make any sense, though. The objects still has it's previous momentum and vector. Objects aren't "pulled along" by the Earth. Rather, the mass of the Earth and everything on it is all orbiting the Sun together. What actually matters here is canceling out the gravity of the Sun, not the gravity of the Earth.
