Either this or Hiashi, but I suspect an imposter - a fellow user of the Byakugan might know how to fool us.

But it was I, a Clan Coup!
Best if what we find is that actual main situation, and not an international incident where we have no idea who is guilty.

Because Kumo is also missing from their room and probably up to no good, but we don't have proof. In particular, the fact that both groups started moving around the same time strongly indicates that they were either targeted by the Branch or conspired with them.

@Magoose Idea I just had. What is the RANGE of our Substitution Jutsu? For most people, it seems like it'd be rather limited, line of sight AT BEST, but... we can know the EXACT location and condition of something many miles away. Seems like we could abuse that to be a poor-man's Hirashin.
I mean I guess the question is, how does Substitution work, roughly?

Is it just a super-speed burst with some visual effects to let you swap with random crap?
Do you summon the crap to you then speed away?
Do you do a teleport-swap?
Is it broken by physical barriers, vision or no?

Damn, this is a hell of a way to be thrust into our first case of Real Combat. Recall how I've frequently mentioned how the Gentle Fist gets hampered greatly (still very effective, but not as excessively so) when used in an intentionally non-lethal fashion? I... have a hard time seeing Shirou being willing to kill anyone here, unless he ABSOLUTELY HAS TO, and our opponents won't be so reserved. If only we knew Defensive Gentle Fist at the moment.

Grabbing our loved ones and absconding to neutral ground, where Village Rules would temporarily over-ride Clan Rules, seems BY FAR our best bet.

It is explicitly teleport-swap, and it can atleast work through barriers when you prepare a target to swap with ahead of time (our first introduction to it, with Zabuza's minions swapping with a bunny).

Shunshin is Super-Speed with some Visual Effects, and that is a much higher ranked jutsu.

We are probably good enough to beat him without killing him and before he kills Hinata.

Also hold on. Minato and ANBU are moving around. What is going on? The Red Flash and all the rest are moving fast. But the guard let him pass...and the barrier team know about this entity.

hold on, Hiashi is bleeding, which means that he has been fighting Kumo nin, rather than the Gentle Fist using Hyuuga

Dunno. It might be something completely unrelated. There is no point worring about that right now.

Not necessarily. Gentle Fist is the Hyuuga's bread and butter, but they DO know how to use kunai and shit, which got some range, especially if the fodder don't wana get in a poke-off with the Clan Head. Or maybe someone used the Water-needle technique.

Okay so either this is your stereotypical clan coup but with Kumo having got caught in the crossfire...or both Kumo and the Branch family somehow timed this all up and are now kicking the shit out of one another in a crossfire. Also as a note yeah I am inclined to get there first and grab Hinata and run to the Sarutobi's for help.

Not necessarily. The branch family do have ninjas and they do use Kunai. For all we know Kumo is just as surprised as the rest of us are. Which would be funny if the whole clan wasn't attempting mass murder.

Sarutobi's are busy with whatever has Minato engaged.

A known enemy at the very least. I don't like how the first option is so easy.

yeahm the got here first option almost certainly means Hiashi is already dead.

From some of the options, it really sounds like "crossfire". They MIGHT have intentionally inserted themselves into said crossfire, this is a great way to cause an actual international incident from which Kumo could demand reparations, but I do not think the Branch are in cahoots.
Sarutobi's are busy with whatever has Minato engaged.
Not neccessarily. He's retired, and whatever Minato is doing doesn't seem like it'd be important enough to temporarily force him back in service.

And even if he is, we can seek refuge with hsi clan. Though seeking refuge with the Uchiha seems better. We DO have the UCHIHA CLAN HEIR with us.

Here's hoping we can just quickly poke him into unconciousness, especially since he doesn't look like he's expecting it. We ARE a Kage-level poker, after all.

Okay so here is what I assumed happened. Kumo was attempting the kidnapping business but the Branch family was preparing the coup. So they both headed to the room of one Hyuga Hinata. However they both met one another and, in typical pokemon fashion, fought it out. Kumo got its ass kicked and was considering handing Hinata over for safety, Hiashi showed up and didn't do so good (probably outnumbered).

So assuming this is true then us showing up first gets us all the attention as we have fled with the prize (Hinata), so to speak. We come in with Kumo and we get to see the end of the fight as they were already losing. We come in with the Branch then Hinata is close to dying, probably traumatized and we are going in outnumbered.

DM just said it ain't no kidnapping. I actually find it FAR more likely taht Kumo figured out that the Branch was planning a coup, and decided to sorta stage a international incident (like how some people throw themselves in front of rich people cars, so they can sue them). Just put them in the right place to get caught in the crossfire, and raise holy hell over Konoha attacking the Kumo Delegates.

Going in with branch, we're going in with like one dude. So not out-numbered, and Hinata hasn't had time to be injured. Though might be traumatized.

Honestly the likely situation that there is no kidnapping rather that Kumo is just filled with assholes and would use this situation to cause an international scene. Got it. Let's hope this branch dude dies quickly and then we book it out of the compound and run and run far.

Some of the options seem wrong for that.

You don't wonder why they would attack if you were planning a kidnapping. You just assume they found out. Because their rooms are emptied, I'm assuming that they were planning something, turning a kidnapping operation into a charlie foxtrot. Our plan should be to get Hinata to safety, knock out everyone that looks at us funny, and let T&I sort them out.

@Magoose So will Shirou figure out his substitution range next turn or something? Again, it should only take, like, 3 minutes tops to figure it out. And it doesn't seem like it should take an Action, we aren't LEARNING anything, we're just figuring out what we can do right now.
