Is it just me or are other people figuring out who is saying farewell immediately after Tsunade?
I guess you mean having trouble here. I left the dialogue like that since in my head you could figure out the person talking before they spoke again. Didn't go so well I'm guessing.
I tweaked a few of the sentences and added some tags. Hopefully that helps.

Intermission Update
non story post for updates.

- the target for Scarlet Justice Phase 2 to begin is the week of Jan 2, 2022.

- thread gifts will be posted no later than Dec 25, 2021. Stuff that I mentioned I picked up for you earlier. The second half of gifts will come along in Jan.

- collaboration with megacookie continues. Two new characters will appear as part of the masked man's continued drive to conquer the shinobi world.

The brutal swordsman, Kaitaikojo Shigisei. Inhuman power and a cursed blade that denies survival to its victims. With his massive stature and dark visage, he delivers terror to the shinobi world as a renegade with his sister at his side.

The savage tactician, Ishako Shigisei. Adept with jutsu and battlefield knowledge, she uses her abilities to guide and protect her precious younger brother. Beneath a kind exterior lurks a woman who is eager to cast off her humanity and enjoy dark desires.

- second databook file will be released in Jan.

- work is continuing on special jutsu document.

- Naruto Alternative: The Last is in development.

- crossposting to other fiction sites is still being considered. Any input is welcome; I am unlikely to make an account on SV adjacent sites (SB, QQ, et al.) for this purpose.

- all of Scarlet Justice Phase 1 is now archived at home.

More updates to come as dates are reached. Thanks.

Lili Kobayashi 1.2 (illust: Taobaka)
I went browsing social media a few months back and saw some art that I liked (I follow like 30 people on Twitter for art and memes, but it's Twitter). Checked out the artist's page and saw they liked drawing cute girls. I know that I have one of those. So we got some commission work done together. More thread art is good. The artwork and the hospitality has been great on their end - money very well spent. Support your artists when you can.

The artist goes by Taobaka, and here is their twitter page. (it's sfw also.)

And here is their rendition of Lili, from Part 1 of the story. Presented as the first part of holiday thread gifts.

Slick transparent version I want to show off first:

Normal background, just as pretty:

And this is an extra scene of Lili studying at one of the Leaf's cafes. Have a look at this one full screen if you can.

I got these for myself mostly but it never hurts to share good stuff. A small thanks to everyone who has been following the story so far, I hope you enjoy the art like I have. More to come.

Happy Christmas and Merry Holidays to all. Be safe out there.

Lilith's Return: Phase 2, Opening
I have reclaimed the light gifted to me long ago. And in this moment, I am a child of the stars.

The spirit of my mother, the first woman I loved, has guided me to heights that humans could never consider. The blood of my father, the first man who meant something to me, runs through my veins even now – the ruthless edge that I now use to stand against this vicious world and its machinations. I have awakened to the truth, and acknowledge the things that made me into the person I am today. I have taken the pain of the past into me, and used it to further fuel my justice.

A life of seclusion and banality became a life of fighting and struggle. The strength in my hands and the wealth at my back is now dedicated to changing the fates themselves, and waking the world from its endless, formless dream of fleeting peace.

My precious family. My valued friends. My brave comrades, and earnest humans of this world...I fight for them, all of them. And I will succeed. I will be victorious.

Out of the depths of darkness and despair, I have risen. And with more and more power embedded into my spirit, flowing through my body, I will rise higher and higher still, as the envoy of heaven who is ready to break the chains of this merciless age.

I will show the world my strength. I will force all who oppose me to their knees. I will eliminate those who use their power for evil. I will become an existence beyond the man worshipped as the great sage, as the one who supposedly formed this world. I will deliver justice, and I will become the true harbinger of peace.

I stand with my sisters, my family, and the faith of the world's finest.

I am the woman who will become the world's most beloved tyrant, shaking heaven and earth with her mighty roar.

I am now sixteen years old.

an alternative Naruto: Shippuden story.

---

This long, lonely corridor is filled with light, streaming in from the windows nearby. Red carpet lines the floor at our feet, and the walls are adorned with glittering gems and elaborate patterns etched into stone.

Luna is wearing her new favourite dress today, something that Midori and I bought for her as a wedding gift. It's violet, low on her shoulders and with sleeves that carry patterns of gold on them all the way down. The hem stops around her ankles and the dress floats with her movements on the bottom, while the top hugs her always stunning curves lovingly. And Midori of course is wearing her new favourite kimono, one that Luna and I bought as a wedding gift for her. Beautiful floral patterns are on the violet fabric, in different intensities of gold and silver, green leaves scattered around and matching the colour of her gorgeous hair. An emerald sash is around her waist, made of pure silk. And of course, the fit of everything is just right so she can show off her outrageous body like she always wants to.

"It'll only be a short time away from you, as far as I'm concerned. Of course, I miss you terribly already."

"Midori, she hasn't even left yet."

"But she's going to, Luna! Tell me someone who would want their precious little sister to go away, even for a few weeks?"

I smile and zip up my jacket properly as we walk.

Today is the day I head back to the world of humans.

After nearly three years of training, we've decided to call it quits and let everything play out. I've learned quite a bit from Midori and our Honourable Grandmother, not to mention the help from Luna, Crim, Aoko, and the countless others that I have worked with on this journey. The power of the White Snake Sage is firmly in my grasp, and the heavenly strength that I have discovered for myself has grown in potency and scope. There are many, many things to do, and these new powers will help me to do them efficiently.

"I'll be sure to come and visit as often as I can, Midori-nee. You remember you gave me plenty of instruction in the summoning arts, yes?"

"I know, I know. I'm just being greedy is all. It was so much fun playing with you, Lili. No offence meant to anyone else, but I'm just a bit stronger than Luna, and the old lady isn't exactly active these days."

"I'm glad I could make your dreams come true. It was fun playing with you, too."

"What wasn't fun was cleaning your wounds," Luna says with a frown. "Your play-dates were occupational hazards, and you both went into that twisted mental space each and every time..."

"Resonance, wasn't it?" I ask Midori.

"That was it, yes. When two hungry and determined people meet on the battlefield like that, it results in a most decadent chaos. Mm..." She closes her golden eyes and smiles at the memory. "I could go for one more round right now..."

"Midori, behave."

"Yes, darling."

"Seriously, you two were stirring up rumours the entire time...I wouldn't be surprised if the other kingdoms heard about it and are petrified with fear by now," Luna says.

"You've become so motherly in the past while, Luna-nee," I say as I turn to her. "It's comforting...I suppose that's why we could act so recklessly, knowing that you would be here to pick us up in the end. You know that we don't mean to cause you trouble, right?"

"Of course I do..." She sighs and gives me a warm smile. "I'm just doting on you two as always, since I love you so much. Just be careful, okay?"

I smile back at her. "I promise, Luna-nee. Thank you so much."

"Ufufu~. You can't resist our imouto's charms either, can you?" Midori teases.

"I guess not. I don't expect to win going against either of you," Luna says.

"Later on, I'll make it up to you properly. That's okay, isn't it?"

"It always is. We have a meeting tomorrow though, so...try not to wear me out too much. I don't hate it at all, but when you go overboard...well, it's hard to find my marbles for a while afterwards," she says, blushing.

"I'll remember, Luna. A wife's duty is to look after her beloved, after all."

The marriage was indeed a once in a lifetime event. A ceremony that took the usual amount of time, followed by a celebration that took up the rest of the month. Lots of opportunity for people to cut loose, whether it was with food or drink. All sorts of dancing, games, and performances for everyone to take part in. And of course, seeing what happened to the adults that got enough of Midori's specially reserved sake in them was unbelievable fun. Old Man Hiruzen, though...well, he could have earned that God of Shinobi title solely on how well he could hold his drink.

We reach the appointed room. It's a wide space, meant for one specific thing: summoning people and objects to and from different places. The chakra flowing through the floor and walls, the embedded seals, and the reinforced structure of this place make it much easier to do than normal. There are many of these stations throughout this elegant castle, and indeed the kingdom of serpents in general – Midori has made it so. Just another example of her benevolence and hard work, all for the sake of her people.

"Oh, I'm going to miss you so much..." Midori hugs me tightly. "Lili, you've grown so beautifully. All of your hard work has definitely paid off, in body and spirit. We all look the part of sisters now, don't we?"

"Hmhm. I still have a ways to go before I get as sexy as you two," I say while hugging back.

"You're too much."

"I know I'll get there, one day soon."

"I have to wonder if that will be good for anyone's health," Luna says while hugging me next. "You're already dangerous as you are, you know."

"Yes, but we can do better than that."

"You're just like Midori after all. Awful." She smiles and pats my cheek. "But even so, I don't want you to change. So I'll get ready to see you set the world on fire."

"Ooh, what an endorsement!" Midori says, clapping.

"Looks like I'm already regretting my words," Luna says, laughing.

"Be sure to have fun while you're here. I know that you'll have the next thousand years or so to yourselves, but...it never does a body good to be stressed in these times." I step into the middle of the painted sealing circle and focus chakra to my feet. The lines start to glow a pale blue, and energy starts to pool up in the circle of small pillars around the room.

"I'll be sure to keep her from getting tense like she used to," Luna assures me. "The kingdom is hers at last, and she has a loving, devoted wife now."

"Definitely," Midori says with a nod. "Those days are long over."

"It warms my heart to hear," I say.

I can feel the energy building further, and my hair starts to float around me. Seems that everything is ready.

Time to go home.

"Midori-nee, Luna-nee...I love you, forever and always. Let's talk again soon."

Holding hands, they smile and give me a wave together. I smile back, and close my eyes.

And at last, I am properly sent on my way.

---

"I...can feel it from here...yes. It's really her..."

---

"Ah, Lady Rose!"

Like a breath of fresh wind, the little blonde girl in her pink sleeping gown raced through the halls of the mansion. Her heart was pounding like never before.

She felt it, and it had jerked her awake in the middle of the morning.

Without thinking, she continued to run, letting her feet take her to the gazebo that sat in front of the garden. She walked onto the grass, then went to her knees and sat, waiting.

"Seems she's on her way."

A woman wearing a red dress of fine silk casually walked to where her youngest daughter was, blowing fragrant smoke from between her lips with a long cigarette holder in her free hand.

"Is everything alright?" a voice called from behind her.

"Everything's fine, Touka. Get us a pot of tea ready, and something nice to munch on. Our special guest is coming home."

"Of course, Mistress."

"That bond between you gets stronger by the day, eh? Imagine that," Emi Kobayashi chuckled to herself. "But that only makes sense. After all..."

"..." The girl's blue eyes stared out into the day, focused on a point that nobody else could perceive.

"This is Lili Kobayashi."

The patterned circle burst into being on the ground, and a red bolt of lightning slammed down into it from the sky above. A rush of wind went through the garden, rustling the petals and leaves of the gardenias nearby. And as the scarlet glow took shape, a gentle shower of sparks rose into the air, dazzling everyone nearby.

This was the only way for her to arrive, back in this most familiar place.

Long, brilliant scarlet hair, thrown back dramatically with one hand. A new jacket of red and black in a familiar design, custom built to show off her body. Glimmering charms from precious family, and strong legs forged from intense training.

And finally, her amber eyes, filled with years of strength and experience, opened to look upon the person she valued most in the entire universe. A bright, beautiful smile came to her lips.

"Rose, my love...thank you so much for waiting."

Her younger sister nodded. "I knew you would keep your promise, Lili-nee."

"That makes me happy to hear."

Rose smiled and jumped to her feet, running towards her older sister. In the garden filled with colourful flowers, they held to each other, spinning together before coming to a gentle stop.

"Yes...I'm home at last."

---

"And it is just the beginning...for this flower of heaven has truly blossomed."

Scarlet Justice: Full Blossom

---

Welcome to the story. If you're new here, I'm glad to have you. If you've been following this for a while, welcome back, and thanks for believing in me to this point. The project continues with this, the second part of our story. This is how we begin: you are following Lilith Kobayashi, a young woman in the Naruto world who was born into money, and has gone from a talented Academy student to one of the world's most elite shinobi. The supporting cast you know and love is back, along with some new faces and twists to go along with them. Not the most novel premise here, but at this point I think I've set up enough changes to make things interesting, or at least make you think a bit about the story. The impact of choices made by our protagonist in part 1 will come into play, and new challenges will arrive to shake the world up. I hope that you as readers will enjoy what happens and how it happens. I'm not aiming for high art: this is entertainment, it's something I love, and it's free. Everyone has the potential to win for that reason. Now, there's some content that people may not like or agree with when it comes to this story (stuff that is within the rules). So let's do this part again, and provide an upfront guide to what could happen.

here, queer, get used to it: this work deals with many themes, and people who are part of the LGBT+ community whether openly or otherwise. Some existing characters may have different orientations than expressed in the original material published, and some of this may not please you as a result. I literally do not care what you think about it unless your concern is that it is harmful. If it's just that you don't like it, then shut up, cope. I may use subtext in some places and supertext in others. And I will handle things appropriately in each chapter they appear in when it comes to people and potential issues. Good natured jokes are cool, weird bigoted fetish stuff isn't. Be cool about it.

sex. now that I have your attention: sex: talks about sexual things, flirting, and other related things. Some of it will be coy, some of it will be blatant. It's going to happen. The lead characters in this whole thing are still a bit below legal age, and so this won't turn into a free for all with underage sex or other such wild things – there is going to be a responsible tone set so that we can have a mature and fun atmosphere when it comes to all of that. But I don't expect to dive too deep into that lake – this is just a heads up.

ate his liver with some fava beans (and a nice Chianti): aka ow the edge. In the first part of this work we have had certain character related sections where there was much in the way of violence and blood-spilling and just all around not wholesome stuff. I have put content warnings on these types of content and other related sections that might come across as problematic. Things like mental breakdowns, genocide, sadism, and just stuff that evokes heavy images. The goal is not to bog down the story in edge and misery, but rather to get the full spectrum of what it means to be a person in the world of shinobi and such. Adds layers when used right, and I'll be trying hard to use it right.

canon? you mean like that pachelbel guy?: the many ripple effects from previous actions and inactions in part 1 of Naruto have resulted in some changes. These changes are still ongoing, and more, different changes will come as the world is further explored. Because we are in a new section of the story with new characters, new personalities, and new capabilities, things will not go down the way you immediately suspect. Though if you've been following along, you can probably guess at one time or another what I am about to do, maybe. As always, I will try to keep characters true to themselves, no matter what external changes come upon them. And hopefully what you see is satisfying.

and this...is to go...even further...beyond!: fights? Yeah. Will they be anime? Yeah. More fights? Yeah. More anime? Hell yeah. We're gonna have plenty of bangers and cool action pieces like the original Shippuden did. Without the anime filler. It'll be more like the manga, just...not. You'll see what I mean. The characters you've been waiting for will get some time to shine, and I don't want to alarm you but c o m b i n a t i o n j u t s u. Yeah.

didn't know you could say that on TV...wait, you can't? uh oh: the fanfic will continue to have coarse language, suggestive themes, and just people being rude to each other and junk. Yes people will say the bad words, yes some of them will be teenagers, no actually they do have extremely rude phrases and words in Japanese, I just won't be recreating them precisely because English cursing works well enough here. That's all.

So, hope you enjoy the rest of the story as it comes. Thank you for reading, and an even bigger thank you for your support. Peace and blessings.

Oh hell yeah, it's time.

I'm super excited to see what kind of adventures Lili will get into now. Eagerly awaiting the next chapter as always, Forte.

Story Guide for Phase 1
Decided to throw this in for people who might have a part or parts they want to start from for whatever reasons they can think of. This organizes all of the arcs from part 1 into volumes, starting from the very beginning. Episodes 1-149 are given here, and you can open up the threadmarks tab nearby to go directly to the episode you want. As a rule, all sequential episodes (e.g Hidden Sand Joint Mission) will not be split between volumes - they will either be at the start, in the middle, or they will end a volume. I hope this is helpful as you explore. Databook material has its own dedicated link in the informational tab. Episode 9: Lost Courage has two versions, 9.5 which is canon, and 9.01 under Sidestory which was replaced for quality control.

I have reclaimed the light gifted to me long ago. And in this moment, I am a child of the stars.

I see Lili is as chuuni as ever.

A thousand years? That's hyperbole, right? Midori could theoretically live that long, seeing as she's actually a summon beast, but last I checked Luna was just an ordinary human(by shinobi standards, anyway)

"That bond between you gets stronger by the day, eh? Imagine that," Emi Kobayashi chuckled to herself. "But that only makes sense. After all..."

"This is Lili Kobayashi."

Sounds like Rose is gonna be powerful once she gets a bit older. She sensed Lili was coming minutes before the summon effect became visible. Natural Sensor ninja in the making? I suppose it's only to be expected of the Scarlet Viper's little sister.

There are conditions that can be met, in the same way that Midori and Lili are no longer normal people, or like Fubuki had the same potential as them and so on. One of the goals in this phase is exploring that.

Sounds like Rose is gonna be powerful once she gets a bit older.
The connection between herself and Lili is more of a spiritual one, but you're also right since that and chakra are connected. She has an interesting trajectory, hopefully I get that far.

Home Sweet Home
Scarlet Justice: Full Blossom – ep. 02
"Home Sweet Home"
---

"So. You look quite ready to cause chaos in this world of ours, as usual."

I smile and shake my head. Emi certainly hasn't lost her form, and I'm thankful for it.

The spring day has taken on a lovely warmth as we sit on the gazebo together, with Emi across the table and Rose comfortably in my lap. My little sister is as adorable as the day we met, and she's nearly three years old now. Her hair is a bit straighter than mine is, and softer looking, but no less gorgeous. And holding her like this is a dream come true...I've only had pictures to look at, letters about her progress, and talks on the phone so that I could hear her voice.

"You seem to have a particular reason for those remarks, Mama."

She nods towards me. "Of course I do. Look at you. I'm just a bit jealous, you know."

"I don't know what you have to be jealous about, of all people."

"Oh, stop."

"I mean it, Mama. Don't be so down on yourself, you're stunning."

"It's not that I'm miserable...it's that you look like an elite model now, and you'll get all the attention when we're together."

"Yes, that's called being miserable. Is this what Rose and Touka had to put up with while I was away?"

"I believe Mistress Emi is sincere in her flattery, seeing as she maintains her usual style of dress."

Touka interrupts us politely and delivers our tea along with small sandwiches. Her smiling face is, as always, so lovely to see. A little bit more weight and muscle on her, but nothing dramatic in terms of changes. Just as fit and dashing as she was years ago.

As for Emi, I wasn't lying when I said her pouting was ridiculous. She bounced back from her pregnancy a long time ago, and has not only maintained herself, but seems to have turned back the clock a bit on her end. She wears another one of her thin silk dresses in red with little underneath, showing herself off boldly as usual. I wonder if taking care of Rose gave her some youthful energy that wasn't there before...well, whatever it is, I approve. Hopefully she stays as she is into old age and beyond.

"Will we be needing anything else, ladies?" Touka asks as she delivers Rose's small cup.

"Nothing for now, I think. Thank you again, Touka."

"My pleasure, Lady Lilith. Welcome home."

I beckon her closer and kiss her gently on the cheek.

"You've done so well...thank you for taking care of Mama and Rose. When you're ready, I'll be sure to fulfill your heart's desire, whatever it might be."

"I'll remember...thank you, milady. For everything."

Rose bows her head gratefully. "Thank you...Auntie Touka."

"You're very welcome, Lady Rose. I got you strawberry milk today to celebrate the occasion."

Rose nods and reaches eagerly for her cup before taking a sip. She's grown into a quiet and polite child...so cute! I stroke her hair and can feel her purring with delight.

"Well, as far as the new outfit is concerned...I did make a few adjustments for practical reasons, such as the material and build. It was good enough before, but now this outfit can survive just about anything in the field, uniquely esoteric and devastating attacks aside," I say.

"And the tighter shorts are for...let me guess, improved efficiency and aerodynamics, or something to that effect?" Emi asks as she mixes her tea.

"Correct."

"And the part where you have your stomach out to the world is for...let's see what nonsense I can come up with...ah, yes. Improved air flow, ventilation, and overall freedom of movement in all situations."

"Very good, Mama. Spoken like a true executive."

"That snark of yours is comforting to hear again after so long."

"I can be efficient and aesthetically pleasing all at once," I say with confidence. "After all, strength alone cannot conquer the world and inspire the masses. Speaking of teasing, how goes your modelling?"

"Well enough. We've set up a studio on the upper level for the occasional photo shoot, and the garden happens to be well laid out for such things. I even snagged a few magazine covers, not to mention the features I've been getting."

"Ooh. And you were pouting earlier. You really can be foolish at times, Mama...I'm proud of you and your hobby work. One day, we'll do a beach shoot together."

"Hmm...that doesn't sound bad, you know. Yes, in a few years we can consider it."

I nod and start mixing my own tea, while Rose drinks quietly in my lap. The silence between the three of us is comfortable, as it always has been. I sip at my tea and take in the scents around me. That fragrant smoke from Emi's exotic brands of cigarettes, and the sweet perfume she loves to wear around the mansion. The rich notes coming up from the cup of tea in my hand. The lovely symphony that floats towards me from the garden nearby, painting brilliant colours inside of my head as I close my eyes.

I wish I could stay here forever...but I know it cannot be so. I intend to savour the time that I will be staying, for now at least. Midori and I decided on this period for a specific reason...I've been placated with letters and photos and phone calls, but I absolutely must have time with Rose. Nearly two years without her touch was too long, even if I did endure it well enough.

"I take it training went well with Midoriko and Luna," Emi says while refreshing her cup.

"It did, yes. The work was tough, just like it was the very first time. And it was equally as satisfying, as you must have gathered from my communications. Nothing changed drastically, aside from my height and build, I suppose."

"You look much stronger. And feel much stronger, too. Though I suppose that Rose can tell better than I can. She was the first one out to the garden."

"I do love my flashy entrances," I say with a smile.

"You're a Kobayashi woman, so it only makes sense. Rose there will likely be the same."

"How has her training been going?" I ask.

"We've made sure to limit it to the very basics, but our little one has taken to it very well. She can make it halfway across the pool by walking now."

"Can she? Well done, Rose. I'm very proud of you."

"Thank you, Lili-nee."

I giggle and rub her head.

"I...get tired when I walk across the water. I'm not as good as Mama yet."

"That's okay, darling. You'll get there soon, once you start getting bigger. Have you been eating healthy? I know you've been doing your studies since we wrote so many letters to each other. You have such lovely penmanship, Rose."

"Really...?"

"Really and truly, my love. All you have to do is work hard, and never be afraid to ask for help. You will become absolutely amazing, I promise you. Maybe even as good as me one day, hmhm."

"Lili-nee...thank you. I want to try...and be like you," she says with her head tilted backwards. "The strongest, most beautiful person..."

"Oh, Rose." I set my cup down and squeeze her tightly. "No matter what happens, or how far you go...I will love you forever. And I will always be very proud of you."

She puts her hands over mine and snuggles into me.

"Lost in your own world, as always. I never get tired of seeing it," Emi says, smiling warmly.

"This was all made possible by two of the most brilliant mothers to ever exist. Keep that in mind, yes?"

"Hmph. Who do you think I am, exactly? I might get introspective sometimes, but raising two super elite daughters is something I'm going to lord over the entire world forever. Don't you worry about that."

I nod, satisfied. "Just checking."

"Mm-hm. So. How long are you staying this time?"

"Four, maybe six weeks. There's a two month window before I have to report back to the Leaf. If I ask for more time, the old man will give it to me without question. But the world won't stop turning with a polite suggestion. Akatsuki...and that man. Every moment they continue to exist is another moment that fate can use to darken your doorstep, Mama."

"Unsavoury."

"Indeed. It's coming up on the time limit for them to act. Naruto is priority one, but I wonder if there are others that I can save. I've been getting more in touch with my spiritual side and studying lost lore. We can talk about it in depth some time."

"We should. But from what you're saying, that means you'll be around for the big event."

"Yes. It hurt greatly only being able to stay a short time for her first birthday, and missing the second entirely...that frustration could be buried with extra work. This time, I'm not letting anything get in my way. The month belongs to us."

"Good. Your room is as you left it, and I'm certain that it's been freshened up by now. Lunch should be ready soon. We can put it off for a little while longer, so that you two can get to know each other again."

"Thank you, Mama. Rose, would you like a sandwich for now?"

"Yes, please..."

"Here you are. Don't worry too much about making a mess."

She nods and I watch her nibble on the small sandwich. I'm really going to melt into a puddle, aren't I? Just adorable, precious, everything! I can hardly stand it. I'm going to have trouble getting back to the Leaf at this rate, truly.

This is a shinobi's life too, isn't it. But I can hardly complain...it's this sometimes troublesome strength that has allowed me to move mountains...and protect my family, Rose included. The child resting in Emi's womb on that fateful day.

"..."

Another daughter, but one that shares his prized physical features. I wonder what he would think of Rose. I wonder what he would think of me as I am now. Just curious little thoughts that come to mind from time to time. Things I can ponder without hurting like I used to. I haven't just been training the body, or learning how to wrangle chakra better. That wouldn't necessitate so many months away. It's been more than that. Most importantly...focusing the heat inside of my soul and giving it a new form.

"Lili-nee?"

"Yes, love. What do you need?" I ask Rose.

"I want you...to read to me. Please."

"Of course. Did you have something in mind?"

"There's a book in my room."

"Then we should be off. Let's get you down first..."

"Have fun, you two. I'll be out here for the next while if you need me," Emi says with a wave.

"Thank you, Mama. We'll see you soon," I say.

"Thank you, Mama," Rose says. She reaches up for my hand and I take it gently in mine. We start our walk inside, going through the halls and past the help who acknowledge us gracefully.

"Mama...told me lots of stories."

"Did she, now?" I ask Rose.

"Lots of stories about you, Lili-nee. You are the strongest...and bravest. And Mama is strong and clever, too. And pretty. Lili-nee?"

"Yes, darling."

"Mama's clothes don't tear even though they're...so thin."

I laugh softly. "She is a graceful being, that one. And well-made silk products don't tear so easily."

"I see..." She ponders that for a bit. "I want to wear thin...stuff. When I'm older like Mama. It feels comfy..."

"You won't have to worry about that for a while yet. But yes, it is quite comfy. I have a set of nightwear that I sleep in, similar, if a bit thicker."

"Hmm..."

"As you grow, you will find your own personal style. Auntie Touka looks handsome, right?"

"Yes."

"She was once small like you and I were, and pondered such things in her own way. Before, she dreamed of floating in dresses and gowns. Surely she can look good in most anything, but I think it would be a terrible waste with her build."

"You know...a lot, Lili-nee."

"Naturally. High-class ladies like us are observant by nature. You can rest assured that in the future, you will see the world as Mama and I see it. For now, enjoy your precious youth."

"Yes, Lili-nee."

I give her hand a gentle squeeze as we continue walking.

I don't think there's been a single mention of Lili's bust since Full Blossom started. Has her milk drinking borne fruit or is she still rather flat?

Walking on water before she even turns 3? Looks like we've got an Itachi-level talent here. Once Emi decides Rose is old enough to attend the Academy, she'll blaze through the curriculum in no time. Might even beat Itachi's record for youngest ANBU(Yamato doesn't count, he was a ROOT tyke bomb)

Oh, I left that as a reader exercise with Midori's comments on how they all "really looked like sisters now". Yeah, it's paid out pretty well by now. Like at the end of part 1 she wasn't really 'flat' either, so.

Ah, Itachi. The living cheat code himself.

Homeward Bound
Scarlet Justice: Full Blossom – ep. 03
"Homeward Bound"
---

Rose was born late in May, just about a month after I was. Her personality is much like mine, and she is always eager to learn and grow. I celebrated my birthday with Midori and Luna again this year, but Rose wanted to share her special day with me regardless. After nearly a month of studying and playing together, we celebrated her third birthday, and my sixteenth one more time. My lovely older sisters provided a delicious cake and joined in on all the fun.

I did end up staying six weeks after all. As I predicted, it was terribly difficult to tear myself away from Rose, and from my lovely home. But difficult does not mean impossible...and so, over the past few days, I have been preparing myself to leave. The Hidden Leaf is calling to me once more.

---

"Everything should be set. A few extras to take home...I'll buy everything else I need when I get to the village proper."

I put on my small backpack and check over my things. Nothing out of place, from what I can see...outfit and hair is in order. I believe that I am ready.

"Good." I let out a breath. "Far too short a time, but it was an incredible one. I'll definitely keep my promise and visit more often, once the serious business is dealt with."

Breakfast was good, and it will hold me until lunch in a few hours at the least. If not, Touka has packed some goodies for me already. I walk through the mansion and greet the staff as I pass by, eventually reaching the front foyer where my mother and sister are waiting. Honda, as handsome and reliable as ever, presents me with the usual velvet-lined box of eye wear choices.

"Things should be fine here, Lili. A call or letter every so often will suffice." Emi sips at a mug of coffee while wrapped in a fluffy robe.

"You're sure, now."

"If something does come up, the village office will make contact with you through Magnolia House. But we're trying not to cross too many wires as it is. Things should continue smoothly as they are now."

"Understood." I pick out a gently tinted set of glasses with obsidian frames. Nice and light.

"Mistress, allow me to relieve you of that," one of the maids says gently. "Would you like a refill, by chance?"

"Ah, thank you. And no, I'm fine for now." Emi finishes her coffee and hands the mug off. The maid bows and heads off towards the kitchen.

"I'll keep in contact as much as I can, Mama. Though...if I have things right, I will certainly be going dark for an extended period. Keep that in mind if you don't hear from me in the usual intervals."

"Of course."

I kneel down to meet Rose. "Do you remember what I told you? About being a shinobi?"

"Yes, Lili-nee."

"Good. I don't know if you would ever want to follow this path...Mama trained in the same way you did, and made a different choice. But right now, there is a great amount of danger around us. It means that I might not be able to talk to you for a while. It also means there's a possibility that...I might lose my physical form, after leaving this world. Reaching you as I am is one thing, but beyond the living world...mm. It's difficult to explain, and I don't want to overwhelm you, my love."

"Danger..." Rose closes her eyes, and her brows furrow for a few seconds. She opens her eyes again to look up at me. "Lili-nee...it means that something bad might happen...and that I can never hold you again."

"Yes."

"The world...is what you want to change?"

"Yes, that's it exactly."

"I remember...feeling it. In my heart, when I close my eyes. Not seeing my most precious person is...scary. But I understand..."

"..."

"Every night, I want to pray and send energy to you, Lili-nee. Is it okay?"

I smile and nod. "That's more than okay. It's a very kind thing of you to do, Rose. Thank you. I know that your prayers and your energy will reach me, every night."

She nods and smiles, putting her hands over her heart. "It means you'll come back. And everyone will be happy. And you'll be a strong lady in charge of people. Like Mama, and Midori-nee."

"That is my goal, yes. Rose, you're so very clever. You understand almost perfectly at your age." I pat her head.

"Thank you, Lili-nee. B-be safe. So you can read to me, and we can have more naps together with the flowers."

"I make this promise to you, Rose. I will return to you one day with the crown of this nation around my neck. Believe in me, your ambitious older sister...the envoy of heaven herself."

"Yes." We share a long, warm hug together. At last, Rose is the one to separate herself from me first. A determined look is in her eyes as she holds my gaze, and we nod towards each other in acknowledgement. Even now, she is far more than some fragile little sibling. She is a partner, bonded to me in spirit...her mind cannot process every word and scenario as it is, but her heart and soul understand completely. I will treat her with the respect she deserves, as she does me.

"Seems like this world doesn't stand a chance against the two of you. Take care, Lili. Continue on your path to the top, and make sure you flatten anyone who gets in your way."

"Yes, Mama. You can count on it." We hug each other and she rubs my back gently.

"I'll keep guiding Rose here until she's ready for you. It should be enough, right?"

"Well, you've set a good enough example for her so far."

"I can take that as a compliment, though I'm not sure if I should."

"You're welcome."

She scoffs at me playfully before smiling. I smile back and put on my sunglasses, acknowledging Honda once more before leaving the mansion. Touka and Sakizuki are having a conversation while they wait for me outside.

"...should be enough, considering."

"I'll remember that, ma'am."

"No pressure, remember. Ah, Lady Lilith. It seems we're forced to part ways once more," Touka says to me.

"It is a bittersweet thing, yes. All I ask is that you continue your hard work, Touka."

"With your faith in me, it will be done. Lady Rose and Mistress Emi will be well taken care of, as long as I draw breath."

"Thank you." We share a warm hug. "And take care of yourself, most of all. Though, I suppose I'm one to talk..."

"It was a bit reckless of you, I have to admit."

I sigh. "Well, I couldn't miss her first birthday...the grief might have crippled me altogether. Nothing that I can reliably explain to normal people."

"I suppose not. But...as you say, it is not our place to worry about everything under heaven and earth. We must do what we can, when we can."

"Yes. Until the next, Touka."

"Until then, milady."

I take a peek inside of the carriage, and see that it's as luxurious as ever. No expense has been spared, as usual with Sakizuki. This time though, he's not burning through his own pockets to make it happen.

"I didn't change things too much. Touch of nostalgia."

"You would say such a thing." I turn and give him a smile. Same flat leather cap, and there's that wavy, slightly messy brown hair of his. I wonder if those perpetually boyish looks are what drew his wife's attention in the first place. "Have you been well?"

"Very. I owe you everything for getting me this gig in the first place. The Mistress has been behaving herself, too."

"That's always nice to hear. Touka has been asserting herself more lately."

"That woman is a force of nature, I'll tell you. Oh, Al is doing well, too. You know he never used to let anyone else ride him aside from us? Lady Rose got his attention one day, and I think the poor guy is smitten."

"Interesting." I go through my pockets and find the small scroll I want.

"Isn't it? But I guess it makes sense. She seems a lot like you, but her own person at the same time. If that makes sense to you, I mean."

"Perfectly so." I unseal the scroll contents: a candy bar and slices of apple with the seeds discarded. "Here you are, boys."

"Thanks."

Sakizuki takes his candy. Al nods his head before eating the slices out of my hand. He hasn't changed much, either. Still a strong and obedient child.

"Mm. Good stuff. Oh, there's a new diner along the usual corridor, popped up about a year ago. I know you like rustic food, ma'am, so I thought you would be interested. We'll reach it for lunch in about two days at our usual pace. Though breakfast and dinner are excellent, too."

"That sounds lovely. We'll have a look once we get there, then."

"Okay. If there's nothing else, we can head out in a few moments."

I nod and start on my way towards the carriage. "Sakizuki."

"Yes, ma'am."

"You didn't seem shocked to see me just now."

"I almost didn't recognize you, really. But when you started talking to Miss Touka, there wasn't any mistake," he says with a laugh. "You really have grown up, though. It's nice to see."

"Mm. And your family, how have they been?"

"Great. My wife is as relaxed as ever, and my daughter's in her third...ah, more like fourth year of university. Accelerated her courses. Whole thing is literally paying for itself now, since she's picked up all those grants and scholarships and the like. Really flew out of the gate, that one."

"Very nice to hear," I say as I step inside. "As always, you know to come to us if she should need any future employment."

"I've been getting plenty of reminders. Well, we can take off now, ma'am. Anything you need before that?"

"Nothing, darling. Thank you as always."

"Yes, ma'am." He smiles and closes the carriage door. I hear him get into his seat, Al letting out a breath, and finally the carriage begins to move.

"Let's see...time to catch up on current events."

I take the scroll I requested last week out of my pocket and unroll the first part of it, crossing my legs and settling in. It's a good idea to hit the ground running...I don't know what that Obito Uchiha and his friends are doing right now, but it's sure to be something unpleasant.

So I'm going to be ready for them. Without a doubt.

---

A few days of steady travel pass, and our pace towards the Leaf means that we can luxuriate in this lovely spring weather. The month's rest has allowed me to truly get acclimated to this world again...spending all of that time in caves saturated with nature energy is an intense experience, to be sure. Very dangerous if you're not careful.

"..."

And painful, to be honest. The first week or two was dedicated to regular clubbings if my energy balance got even slightly out of step. Across the shoulders and back, sometimes on the top and back of my head. But it was either that or screw up and turn into a statue forever. Fortunately, between the massages and headpats, I got over it quickly and stopped wandering into the danger zone. After the initial learning was done with, mastery of the sage chakra was a longer, more tolerable, and thankfully less physically painful road to travel. I've also gained an even greater appreciation of nature. That connection I had with it before was relatively thin, mostly expressed in the comfort I would feel while alone in the trees. Now, it's much, much more potent. If I connect more with the world around me, who knows what I can come up with?

"If that jutsu is real, maybe...I can recreate it somehow? And if I can figure out a jutsu like that, then..."

Hm. Those arts are definitely something I'll have to look into once I get the time. I can go far beyond what that Hanzo could ever dream of, hmhm.

We finally come to a stop where the lush forest starts to give way to flattened land. Lines of smoke rise up in the distance, fading out beneath puffy clouds. I pull on my high socks and secure my sandals once more.

"You're sure that you don't need to stay a bit?" I ask Sakizuki as I leave the carriage.

"We should be okay, ma'am. Al has enough energy in him to get us to the next rest stop."

"As long as you're sure. Take care, okay?"

"We will. Be safe with your shinobi stuff, and all of that. I'd miss driving you back and forth."

"You'll surely get the chance to do that again. There might even be a big promotion in your future, you know."

He laughs. "Looking forward to it, Lady Lilith. See you, then. And thanks for everything."

"You're quite welcome, Yuma."

He smiles and tilts his hat downwards before leaving. The main gate of the Leaf is just ahead, and it's just as I remember it. Old memories come flooding back immediately.

"So good to be home again. I've missed you."

The place where I first became a woman.

The Village Hidden in the Leaves.

Homecoming
Scarlet Justice: Full Blossom – ep. 04
"Homecoming"
---

"Magnolia House isn't set to open for a few more months...right on schedule, then."

I've found a cafe and started reading the first reputable newspaper I could get my hands on. Not too much happening on the surface as of yet, but that should change as I put myself back into the ecosystem. The construction plans for the orphanage, housing, and business sphere in Carnation Quarter are moving as fluidly as they could be. I'll pay the workers a visit and treat them with a hearty lunch soon. My new home isn't ready, so I've lined something up at the usual hotel until the day arrives.

"Instead of asking around and wasting too much time, I'll go right to her first. I wonder how she looks after so long..."

I leave my payment and a tip on the table before exiting the cafe, and starting across the rooftops at a casual enough pace. Casual meaning that I cross the village at a much faster pace than I used to, of course. It might be slower to use the phone from now on in comparison...

Landing in front of the familiar entrance, I approach the two Hyuuga guards standing at their posts.

"Do you have business with Hyuuga, ma'am?" one asks.

"I do. My name is Lilith Kobayashi."

"Lady Kobayashi, welcome. Please, make your way inside. We have instructions from Lord Hiashi to let you through as needed. Our apologies for any inconvenience we may have caused you."

"No offence taken. Thank you," I say with a nod. The gates are opened to let me through, and I pass by the guards as they bow respectfully. My sunglasses go to the top of my head, and my backpack goes to my right hand as I carry it, walking through the halls and into the courtyard.

"Doesn't seem to have changed any...but there isn't really a need for it, is there. If nothing else, I could always find the Hyuuga sense of aesthetic pleasing."

"Ah...pardon me. Did you have business with us today?"

I stop and turn to the new voice.

"That's...is that you, Hina?" I ask.

"So I wasn't seeing things after all...it is you! Lili!"

I drop my bag and we run to each other. Hina's warm, soft embrace is something that I never knew I missed so badly until now. My heart was right to guide me to her first, as it always is.

"I just had to make sure my eyes weren't tricking me...I could see you right there, but even then I wasn't sure. Oh my goodness, I can't believe you're finally home!"

"I'm so glad to be home, Hina. You're the first one I've talked to in the village...I figured that you would have all the information I needed, and more than that, I was so very curious to see how you grew."

"Well, you can tell me what you think now." She takes a few steps back and presses her hands together, smiling. Goodness, she's a vision. I suppose that regimen of fortified milk did wonders for us both...she's grown from a small, delicate looking thing to a woman as strong and curvy as I am. I think she's just as close as I am to Midori...wow.

Her hair is longer, reaching down to her back now, and still has the same lovely sheen to it – an indication that she's been taking care of it very well. She's gotten herself a new sweater too, long and white with a lavender hood and sleeves. The shoulders have the Hyuuga Clan symbol etched onto them in white, and on the left side of her chest is the Leaf symbol in an emerald colour. Some of the mesh shirt she has is peeking out beneath her collarbone, below the now lavender forehead protector that rests around her neck as it always does. On her lower half, she's gone with dark blue pants that reach down to her calves, combining them with sandals that have low heels and straps wrapped around her ankles for support. The charm from my birthday three years ago is still in place on her right ankle, sparkling in the light.

"You look amazing, Hina. Absolutely lovely," I say to her.

"Nearly as good as you, I hope."

"An understatement. We look the part of sisters for real now, honestly."

"That's too much."

"It's not! You're an absolute goddess. Breasts, hips, thighs, everything. I knew you would grow up to be stunning, but you've definitely worked hard on yourself to go beyond that. I'm proud of you, Hina."

She blushes and gives me a bright smile. "Thank you so much, Lili...I...really wanted to hear that from you, most of all. You always thought I was beautiful, but the way you praise me so sincerely gives me confidence. Um...I did wonder if I was a bit...you know."

I frown. "You don't need to worry about that. You're not fat in any way. You're curvaceous and stunning, like I am. That's the truth. A bunch of rotten bitches jealous of your body won't change that."

"I'll put those bad thoughts out of my head...thank you for that reassurance. Oh, and if you were wondering..." She gives me an impish smile. "He's definitely noticed."

"Ooh. So he's back, and he's a slave to your charms at last. You've certainly become dangerous, Hina. I love to see it."

"If I'm a danger, then that makes you an existential threat. It's shocking how you've become even more beautiful than before, you know. Showing extra skin is unfair to everyone else on top of that."

"Hmhm~. Playing fair is for civilian girls. We're kunoichi, after all." I give her a playful wink.

"I missed your interesting takes on life," she says, giggling.

"We really must thank Tsunade properly for her advice all that time ago. Whoever said that milk did a body good knew what they were on about."

"They must have. You're going to make nearly every man in this village faint from happiness, you know. I think your chest is bigger than mine, now that I'm getting a good look."

"Is it?" I tilt my head. "Hmm...maybe a small bit, yes...though I haven't had any trouble getting things to wear, so it should be fine."

"It's the same experience for me. You've had time to get yourself reacquainted with a few things, then."

"Yes. I did come back to this country over a month earlier," I say as I pick up my bag again. "Some important things to tend to at the mansion, as you know."

"I was wondering if you made enough time for Rose, and it seems like you did. How is she?"

"She's growing so well, Hina. I had a hard time convincing myself to get back here. Look, look." I reach into one of my pockets and take out a photo. "She turned three a little while ago, and I got to stay for the entire party this time. Isn't she precious?"

"So cute...and she looks so much like you now, too."

"Doesn't she? Well, we are sisters by blood, so it only makes sense. But I know that Momma had to have a bit of influence somewhere. Things we can ponder later, I suppose. Oh, bother. I forgot to ask-"

"Even if I didn't have time for you, I would make some right away. You remember, don't you?"

"The Hyuuga Princess once again. Of course," I say with a smile.

"And I have you to thank for that. Come, let's have some tea. Gossip can wait until later at our club meeting, since we should see to some of the village affairs at first. I have scrolls gathered for that purpose."

"Let's away, then."

"Found you! I'm not leaving without a hug!"

"Hm?" I watch as a certain little sister races towards me and attaches herself to my waist.

"Lili-nee! You're home! And you've been working out...whoa. Bigger in more than a few places, eh."

I smile and pat Hanabi's head. "It's lovely to see you, Hanabi. And thank you for the compliments, hmhm."

"You're welcome, as always. So, you saw how smoking hot onee-sama got, right? And you're a full course meal yourself!"

"H-Hanabi...that's a bit much," Hina says with a nervous sigh.

"Mm? It totally isn't! You've both got bodies to die for, that's the truth. No sense in being so modest and junk."

"Listen, it's one thing to give out compliments, but you're bordering on harassment again..."

Hanabi should be...ten years old by now, yes. If Rose does choose to walk in my footsteps, Hanabi will unquestionably be one of the people she can rely on once she comes of age. She's definitely grown a bit as well. She has a lavender shirt on with big, long sleeves, and the Hyuuga crest on the left side of her chest in white. The same type of mesh shirt Hina wears is underneath it. A pink sash is around her waist, and she wears shorts with stockings and the usual sandals for her bottom half. Her hair has grown as well, flowing down her back and formed into two tails at the front, all of them bound by pink scrunchies.

"You don't need to be so stingy," she pouts.

"What part of not wanting you to monopolize my chest is stingy?" Hina says, exasperated.

"It's so soft and comfy!"

"Listen you, I'm not a living pillow or whatever it is you're thinking."

"I see, I see. I understand..."

Hina sighs and nods.

"I wouldn't want to intrude on Naruto-nii's turf, after all."

I snort as Hina's face reddens.

"Lady Hanabi, I don't think we should be winding up our heiress so much at this hour of the day."

"Bah. It's the fun police." Hanabi puts her hands behind her head. "Snooping around as usual."

"Milady, please. Ah, Lady Lilith. Welcome back to the Hidden Leaf. I hope I'm not interrupting your greetings."

"Not at all, Neji. It's good to see you again."

"Likewise." We shake hands and give each other a smile. Neji has grown too, becoming a very handsome fellow. I can only assume that Tenten is quite pleased with this development. His hair is much longer and in the same ponytail as before, and he wears a normal headband now in black. The most interesting thing is his new outfit that's all in white, with those long, loose sleeves.

"The girls have started talking about Neji," Hanabi says. "Too bad for them – he's taken."

"Lady Hanabi, please. Baseless speculation is unbecoming of a Hyuuga woman."

"Heh. Deny it all you want, we know the truth."

"Well, Hanabi is right about one thing...you certainly aren't a slouch when it comes to looks," I say. He coughs and tries to hold back his blushing.

"And there we have it. The Lili Kobayashi seal of approval! You're a certified hottie, Neji!"

"Hanabi, stop teasing Brother Neji like that," Hina says.

"You got your badge too, huh. Whatever you say, Miss Deputy."

"T-thank you, senpai. I...appreciate the compliment," Neji says slowly.

"You're quite welcome. I hope you've been well."

"I have been. As you can hopefully see, I have been able to accomplish my goals of looking after Lady Hinata and Lady Hanabi. Also, I will be able to render enhanced assistance to you in the future as a result of my new ranking."

"Oh? You've been promoted to jounin, then."

"Yes...but how did you guess at that, specifically?"

I shrug. "It only makes sense. You're a genius, aren't you?"

He nods and blushes again. "It seems so. Thank you again, senpai. Your confidence in me won't go to waste."

"No question about that," I say with a smile. "Congratulations, Neji. Continue your good work."

"Of course."

"Brother Neji has been rising to new heights since we parted ways, Lili. He and Father are certainly equals by now."

"Ah, that might be a bit much, Lady Hinata. I can keep up with Lord Hiashi, but to say I'm his equal..."

"As modest as ever. Ladies like that in a man, too," I say. "The Hyuuga Clan is moving in new directions, so...as long as you continue to cultivate your strength, things will be fine. Now, we shall resume our plans so that I can get a proper pulse of the village. Both of you should come with us and share your insights."

"Onee-sama, can we have breakfast?" Hanabi asks Hina.

"We can, yes. I'm a bit hungry myself."

"Once we find a suitable room for our meeting, I will fetch it for us," Neji says. "Senpai, allow me to take your bag for now."

"Thank you, darling." I hand my backpack off to Neji. "One more time, then. Let's away."

---

We make up quite a bit of ground over a delicious breakfast.

The village has been attempting to track Akatsuki and its assets, running into various barriers along the way. There are problems that run quite deep when it comes to the coverage of shinobi forces in rural regions, and disconnects when it comes to the populace. The organization is embedded in various places and at some points inadvertently gives extra power to criminal groups such as the yakuza. Correcting that problem will not be easy. And outside our borders, we have strong reasons to suspect that it's not only regular denizens of Earth Country giving oxygen to Akatsuki, but the entire government including the Hidden Rock Village. Though that only makes sense with the tenuous balance between peace time wind-downs and constant threats from more powerful nations. The Hokage's velvet glove is a courtesy and not a promise – that much is recognized. And though no harm is meant, it will still cause problems when it comes to diplomacy.

We don't have much else on Akatsuki. Seems that the only other thing to do is wait until they make a move, and thwart their plans. They almost certainly have agents planted in the five largest shinobi villages and are monitoring as much as they can. A solvable problem, but a problem nonetheless.

Naruto, as I heard earlier, returned a month and a half earlier with Jiraiya. Sasuke, a few weeks after that. Fio isn't here yet, but I'm not terribly concerned as she sent another letter while I was at the mansion. They go to the Leaf, specifically Tamaki's desk. Tamaki forwards them to Emi. Emi has then been forwarding them to Luna, so that I could read them while I was away. As usual, there's no return address on them because she loves to run from place to place, but they're more than useful as indicators of her health. She should be back quite soon. Shino is still doing well for himself, and Kurenai...well, if the surprise is what I think it is, then I've lost that bet with Luna for sure. Everyone in our class has been growing splendidly, and so have our friends and comrades within our circle. Nami's reach across the webs of information in the village has grown considerably, for example.

There is a lot to think about, and consider...well, I should be able to manage it well enough. As long as I don't get too lost in one thing or another, it will be fine. But Akatsuki is a big problem that will need to be solved soon, or else we're going to be in trouble. Gathering the tailed beasts...

I bid my Hyuuga sisters farewell, and send my regards to Hiashi. The next stop will be the Academy.

"A familiar place where I got my start..."

I smile while walking through the halls. This place really hasn't changed a bit, and I'm glad that it hasn't. Perhaps a small upgrade in the future would be nice, though...

I venture to the cafeteria and the cook from my time as a student is still there, working away. She recognizes me and gets me some milk and dairy to put away for later.

"So generous. Maybe I should stop by more often, hmhm~."

Let's see if he's switched rooms...hmm, nope. This is definitely his chakra signature ahead.

"Sensei, are you busy?"

"I'm finishing up something, but you can come in," he replies. I slide the door open and set my bag down on one of the nearby desks. Iruka looks the same as when I left him, and he's marking papers with the same care that I always remembered. "Sorry about this mess. What can I help you with, ma'am?"

"I had an important question to ask you, Iruka-sensei."

"Go ahead."

"Did you miss me?"

"Eh?" He stops his marking and lifts his head for the first time. "Wait...Lili? Is that really you?"

"It certainly is, Iruka. Could you put down your pen a moment and give me a hug? It would make my day even better."

"Sure, sure." He chuckles and leaves his desk so that we can share a hug. "I can't believe it. You've grown so much, Lili. You look amazing, honestly."

"Ah, so we're finally comfortable enough to flirt openly. That makes me quite happy."

"And I can see that you're the same as ever on the inside."

"Hmhm. You're the fourth person I've met since coming home, you know. I went over to the Hyuuga abode earlier so that I could catch up on everything that's happened while I was gone."

"Yeah? That's good." Iruka sits on his desk, and I take a spot beside him. "As far as national matters go, we've been holding the line mostly. The Hidden Sound, or what used to be called that, is now being occupied by forces from the five great villages jointly, to head off any issues or disputes. It's still a bit tense either way."

"Hina told me, yes. We've also been sweeping for Akatsuki middlemen up there, too."

"Yep. Regular missions back and forth since about a year ago. I've gone about three times, it's pretty tame for the most part. Tomo has been great as my second while I've been busy."

"Tomoko Kosugi, you mean?"

"Mm-hm. I was aware of her problems and she talked to me about everything herself...but she got help, stuck to a plan, and worked with the older kids in lectures instead of hands-on stuff for a while because she was nervous. She's a really good instructor and does her best. That time with Koichi was definitely troubling to learn about, but nothing terrible came out of it, she's apologized, and most importantly, shown that she didn't mean anything predatory through her actions."

"Good for her. I honestly did judge her before knowing everything...for once, I'm happy to know that I was wrong about someone."

"Same here." He sighs. "So I take it you haven't met up with Naruto, then."

"Not yet, but he's next on my list. How is he?"

"Different! That's to say, he's the same energetic guy we remember, but he's definitely picked up a lot on the road. Kind of hard to explain..."

"Something that I have to experience, then? Yes, that sounds like Naruto. Glad to hear that he hasn't changed too drastically. Though I wouldn't guess at such a thing after travelling the world with King Pervert."

Iruka winces. "Ouch. I guess we're not rebuilding that bridge any time soon, then?"

"He's trained with the toads. Jumping back and forth across the remains shouldn't be an issue for him."

He nods sagely. "I guess we can steer away from that subject, for now at least."

I glance behind me at the tests on the desk, and reach back to pick up one. "Hm."

"What's up?" Iruka asks.

"I shouldn't need an answer key for any of this...and there's quite a bit to go through," I say. "No wonder you were so distracted earlier."

"Oh, the papers. I'll be fine-"

"I'm sure you will be, but you know how stubborn I get when it comes to you, Iruka. Hand me half."

"Alright, alright." He sighs and splits the pile in two before handing it to me. I take it and pull one of the desks forward so that it rests against his, then grab one of the pens and take a seat.

"We can talk and mark at a more reasonable pace now."

"Yes, ma'am."

"Oi. You can get fresh with me after we've finished, not before."

"You always say a little too much, you know that?"

"Such is the lamentation of every man in this world. Do not worry, you shall learn better in time."

He chuckles and shakes his head.

"We did quite a bit more than physical training while I was away. Much about the lore around the Warring States Era, things that didn't have to do with the shinobi and their conflicts," I say.

"Much of the records were passed down through means of stories...oral communication and the like," Iruka replies. "Writing ended up getting lost a lot, and was treated as an expendable redundancy. Some of the minor villages are looking for funding to get excavation projects off the ground. They think a good amount of material has been buried in the countryside, for example."

"Have we started on anything like that?" I finish with a test and place it in the designated pile.

"Not yet, though the Hokage has expressed interest in projects like that. You know how Lady Koharu and Lord Homura get, though."

"Yes, unfortunately."

"Well, we've also been looking into more jutsu research. Something like that could help the kids in the future, like with..."

Scarlet Justice: Full Blossom – ep. 05
"Cheers!"

Waking up is an interesting sort of routine nowadays. It's automatic, like the processes a personal computer goes through after the power button is pressed. The first few times it happened, I was quite perplexed. But gradually, I came to understand what was happening. I didn't just accept it, I started to become fond of it.

It's a hazy sight in front of me, but I've slept well enough. This is one of the fancier suites in the hotel, because luxury is always nice when you can afford it. The curtain of red is something I recognize as my hair, and so I brush it away and let out a proper yawn. My feet swing out of bed and I rise up out of it, then move towards the middle of my room. I do my cycle of stretches and feel my brain start to clear up gradually.

My body moves me to the bathroom, I remove my underwear, and take a warm shower. Scrub and rinse in order. Think about breakfast, and then in another corner of my head I start to plan out my day. Going to see my loved ones as much as I can today. Maybe weights tomorrow? Sounds okay.

Shower's done. Find a nice towel to wrap myself with. Brush my teeth, gargle, rinse. My eyes meet those of the girl in the mirror, and everything snaps into place again. I sigh and roll my shoulders a few times before heading back to the room and picking up the phone.

"Good morning. Yes, I have a request for breakfast, several items. Two eggs, sunny side up. Two slices of cinnamon toast with butter on. One stack of five buttermilk pancakes, syrup on. Two western omelettes. One eight ounce steak, medium. One bowl of wheat square cereal. Two bottles of milk at two percent, one pitcher of whole milk. And one pot of green tea, bags in. No, waiting will not be a problem. I would like these delivered about an hour from now. Yes, of course. I'll be decent by the time you get here. Thank you very much. Bye-bye."

I set down the phone and think. Was that all I wanted?

"Mm. That should be enough for now, honestly. Okay. Time for a run."

I get into one of my tracksuits and grab my key card. Half an hour? Yes, that sounds fine.

With that, I head out.

---

After my second, more thorough shower of the morning, I make sure to moisturize my skin, and then get changed into my usual outfit for the rest of the day. There's a knocking at the door a few minutes later, and I open it to see two young men carrying my order on trays.

"Leave it in the middle there, please and thank you."

They do so faithfully and head on their way afterwards.

"Here you are, gentlemen. Between us," I say with a smile. They take their tips gratefully with bright eyes and salute me before closing the door. Men can be terribly cute sometimes.

"Finally, breakfast is served. Let's see about the steak...good. I would say that bodes well for everything else. If not, may the heavens protect me...because I'm not stopping halfway through unless I'm about to die. So hungry right now..."

It doesn't take me very long to tear through everything. Many months being spoiled by Luna's cooking makes almost everything else seem lacking by comparison, even this five star experience. But it's far from torture, to be clear. The head chef here does impeccable work, and has continued their streak even through this large order.

"Ah...full, finally."

Mm. But still, I suppose I'll have to use my own skills as much as I can from here on, in order to be properly satisfied. The new house is going to have a gas stove in it, among other modern luxuries. Delightful.

"Midori was right. Nothing beats home cooking...wonder how many new street vendors are around. Or old ones. That butter chicken stand was memorable." I drink down my tea and pour another cup. The phone starts to ring. "That might be my friends from the office. Let's see." I transfer myself to the chair nearby, then pick up the phone that's on the small table beside it.

"Lilith Kobayashi speaking."

"Miss Kobayashi? You have a call from the Hokage's Office," the receptionist says gently.

"Thank you. You may put them through."

"Of course. One moment, please."

I take another sip of tea while I wait.

"Good morning, this is Tamaki Kurogane on behalf of Lord Hokage. Do I have Captain Kobayashi on the line?"

"You do indeed. It's been a while, my darling."

"It certainly has been. Oh, you sound so grown up, too! Since we heard you made it back, we just wanted to check in on you. Did you get any news?"

"Hina filled me in after I went to see her."

"Good. I guess that only leaves the classified content, which we'll go over in person as usual. But you definitely need to come by when you can, your favourite grandfather is longing to see you again."

"I've been thinking of him, too. Send him my love, and assurances that I will be available to sit in his lap again soon enough."

"From what I'm hearing, you'd make him melt into a puddle if you did that."

"Oh, dear. Still up to his habits in his old age, is he?"

"Hasn't slowed down a bit, unfortunately." She sighs. "But if I hated it that much, I would find the door. He's a sweet old man, when he's not making me want to tear his balls off."

"Aw. You're perfect for each other."

"Like egg on rice."

"Is Imari well?" I ask.

"Yep! Just out running errands with Shizune today. Far as big progress goes...Tsunade has been going over the data you and our friend provided a while ago. Nothing to move the needle on that end."

"I see. And he's finished looking after the little one for now, then."

"Yes, from what we've been told. For now, it seems like he's been roaming the countryside running errands, and staying a step ahead of our biggest problem so far."

Itachi...he can take care of himself, clearly. But I don't want to put him in a hard position for too long. There's a play I can make, one that will help ease the pressure on him until we can deal with their surveillance once and for all.

"As for the other issue, the artist we know...things got disrupted on his end."

Sai. I see, Fio and I leaving hampered him. And I can guess that with Karin and Suigetsu doing other things as a result...hm. The time will come to deal with him as well. Actually, it might be more prudent to get rid of him first, so as to give us more space when dealing with Danzo later. We'll need all the room we can get with that old bastard.

"All understood, Tamaki. We'll go over this in person soon enough."

"No rush, either. You should take your time settling back in, since it's been a while. But it's a big relief having you back, Lili. Welcome home."

"Thank you, Tamaki. For that and for calling in...I appreciate you very much."

"Back at you, sweetie. See you soon."

"Yes, until then." She hangs up and I set down the phone. "Okay. So I have a date with the Hokage in a bit. Today, though...since I've done the work I needed to, it's time for me to see my special friend."

I finish the rest of my tea and leave the cup on the table, then freshen up and secure my essentials before leaving the hotel. Another fresh spring day in the Leaf greets me.

"If I remember right, that direction is home. So he's in today...and of course, if things go to plan, that won't be home for too much longer. I can't wait to see his face when that day comes," I say with a smile. "Oh, since it's still early...I'll bring him a treat. Ichiraku is..."

I land lightly in front of my first stop, Ichiraku Ramen. The storefront looks exactly as I left it.

"Good morning," I greet while parting the restaurant banner.

"Good morning, ma'am. Oh, well look at this...Ayame! Come to the front for a moment!"

"On my way, Dad."

"Wow, you've shot up like a tree!" Teuchi says. He hasn't changed a bit since the last time we spoke...I suppose his zeal for life helps keep him young in these times. Lovely to see. "If you have time, I'll make you a few bowls on the house."

"Maybe another time? I had myself a hearty breakfast just now," I say to him. "I wanted to say hello and pick up something for Naruto."

"In that case, you can have this order on me as well. Two bowls for the kid, coming up. Make sure you stop by soon for lunch, though. I want to see if I still have my touch after all these years, and there's no better judge than a loyal customer."

"'Tis an honour, sensei. You'll see me tomorrow afternoon for sure."

"Great."

"Sorry I took so long, Dad. Oh! Lili, is that you?" Ayame asks. She's grown a bit, but hasn't changed much either. Though I won't complain about that, since she's always been a beauty.

"It certainly is. How have you been, Ayame?"

"I've been great. Hold on, let me come over there." She steps from behind the counter and gives me a hug. "You look gorgeous. Has anyone told you that you might set the whole village on fire, looking like that?"

"Frequent reminders, yes."

"I'm a little jealous, but since it's you...I can let it go. Just don't leave us normal girls too far behind."

I laugh. "No promises."

"Darn. Well, it's good to have you home either way. Oh, Dad...let me get that for you." Ayame moves back behind the counter and works the stove for a bit alongside her father. It's nice watching them together, father and daughter...a relationship I know they cherish greatly.

"Shouldn't be too much longer, Lili," Teuchi says to me.

I have a proper seat at the counter. "Take your time. I am quite loathe to rush an artisan at work."

"Heh. You know, the village has been humming along without you, or I suppose thanks to you...but it's not the same, really. And it was really different with both you and Naruto gone."

"How has he been?"

"If I had to explain it...hmm. He's mostly the same, but seems to have come back with something a little extra. You can see it in his eyes, it's just not as intense as yours. Does that make sense?"

I nod. "Perfectly so. I'm going to see for myself, since he's home today."

"You can tell from here?"

"It's not too difficult in relaxed situations like this. Extending the reach of my supplementary arts was one of the things I worked on the hardest while away."

"I see, I see..."

"Did you hear about Miss Kurenai?" Ayame asks me.

"If it's what I've been hearing, then I guess it's finally happened. Those two really couldn't keep their hands off each other, huh..."

"Everyone knows how much she likes to hit the gym, so the moment she started showing, there was gossip everywhere. It was crazy."

"Pregnant women like to eat," Teuchi says.

"Might want to hold off on that, Dad. Unless you're thinking of putting marmalade on top of our seaweed ramen."

Teuchi pales. "You must be joking."

"At least that's edible food...somewhat."

"Huh?"

I nod along. "Some have been known to desire non-foodstuffs..."

"It's been about two decades, Dad. I bet you repressed those memories," Ayame says with a smile.

"And for good reason. If I think about that too much, I'll lose the will to cook..." Teuchi shakes his head. "I'm getting a straitjacket for the first person who asks me to use dirt as a topping."

Ayame and I share a laugh at that.

---

With my order of ramen secured, I head off to see Naruto at last. Teuchi said he was thinking of selling cup ramen in the future, as a side business...hm. I wouldn't mind helping out with that. If he can pack even half of the flavour into them from his fresh bowls, it will be incredibly popular everywhere.

I hop up towards Naruto's apartment and float down in front of the door gracefully.

"I'm here. Okay...try not to get too excited, Lili."

My free hand knocks on the door three times.

"Yo! Be right there!"

I hear a chair slide across the floor and heavy footsteps.

"Mornin'. What's happening...eh?" Naruto opens up the door, and I get a good look at him for the first time. He's gotten a fair bit taller, and looks stronger than before. It also looks like he's picked up a new outfit, in the same style as before. The blue parts of his old outfit are now a solid black – the sleeves, shoulders, and collar, as well as a long strip down the middle of his jacket. Everything else is the same orange as I remembered. It's fitting, in a lot of ways...

"Good morning, my love."

"Lili...? You're...uh, you've got a bag and everything. Come in, you can set it on the table..."

"Thank you." I walk inside and take off my sandals, then set the ramen down gently. A quick glance reveals that there are a few more plants around the apartment than before, and that they've all been well taken care of. Hina was looking after them and everything else while Naruto was gone, and Sakura helped on occasion.

"You finished putting everything down?" he asks.

"I am. So-"

He runs forward and smothers me in a hug. There's that familiar feeling, yes...a sweet, wonderful warmth that fills my core, as it always does. Different from when I'm with Rose, or Midori, or Hina, but equally as wonderful.

"I missed you so much..."

I close my eyes, gently pressing one hand on his back and the other into his soft head of hair.

"I missed you too. It's so wonderful to see you again, Naruto."

He slowly pulls away from me and sniffles, while I open my eyes. "Didn't think I'd get so emotional...heh. I was thinking of you a lot, but I guess I didn't know how bad it was until now."

"Don't worry, I felt the same thing."

"Yeah? That makes me feel even better, then. You're uh...like...whoa, you know?"

"Hm. I'm not sure what you mean by that," I tease. "Mind being specific?"

"This is definitely some kind of harassment. It's gotta be, right?" He sighs and turns his blushing face away from mine. "You and Hinata are the same...you're both...ya know. Really sexy, and stuff. Is that good enough?"

"Hmm...for now, I suppose. You get a pass today, since I'm in such a good mood."

"Thanks. And well...I guess since you're already up to your tricks, I might as well show it to you now."

"Something for me?"

"I think I got that jutsu down. Pervy Sage was on my butt about using it in exchange for training...you know how he is."

"Unfortunately," I mutter.

"Well, guess what?" he says, brightening considerably. "I've been holding something in reserve, exclusively for my best friend in the whole world!"

"Really?" I perk up at that.

"I drew on plenty of inspiration, ya know. You were definitely one of those sources for sure! Maybe even the biggest one! So, uh...don't tell anyone, okay? It's for you and you alone."

"That's really sweet of you, Naruto. Alright...whenever you're ready."

"Yep! Here we go!" He puts his hands together and makes the ram seal. "Introducing...the Super Elite Sexy Technique!"

"..."

The smoke clears quickly enough, and I can get a good look at this offering. It's...wow.

He really has grown beyond expectations.

"Hehe~! So? Does this work well enough for your tastes, darling?"

Even the voice he chose for this one is top level...maybe I'm biased because I hear a bit of myself in there, but still.

And all of this was just for me. Dare I say it...but something like this is truly a blessing, for all that it means to me.

"I am very impressed," I say sincerely. "Extremely well done. Most people would make the mistake of going bigger, or showing off the least amount possible...but you've pulled it off perfectly. You are going to keep improving this one, yes?"

"After getting this reaction out of you? You bet I am!" Naruto transforms back, and I try to steady my racing heart a bit. Certainly something, how much of a direct strike that was...luckily, I've been honing my self control while away along with everything else.

"You had better not use that on anyone else you know. You'll kill them for sure," I say with a smile.

"No way. That good?"

I nod. "That good. A true work of art. Thank you, Naruto...I can tell how fondly you think of me from that alone."

He rubs his head with a sheepish smile. "Shucks. I did say that I used you as inspiration, so...I wouldn't have been able to do it without you, and all the love you've given me."

"If anyone could hear us talking, they'd call us crazy, you know. Gushing about lewd ninjutsu and declaring our love for each other over it," I say with a laugh. "But even without all that, I'll love you forever, Naruto. I'm so glad that you chose to be my friend."

"I think I'm the happier one, Lili. Thanks so much for everything, and I love you, too."

We give each other another hug.

"Also, we don't want to let that ramen get too cold, since you brought it over and all, right?"

"Right." I rub his head as we separate again. "Both bowls are yours. I'm still working off my breakfast from earlier."

"Thanks!"

"Anything to drink?"

"Water's okay. I got some fancy cocoa if you wanted some, and tea on one of the shelves. Milk's in the fridge, too."

"Mm...I'll just have a glass of water myself. Ice in yours?"

"Yes, please."

I reach into the freezer and pop out a few ice cubes from the tray, then toss them into our glasses. A quick fill from the tap, and we're done. Naruto breaks apart his chopsticks and says a short prayer before digging into his first bowl.

"That's the good stuff. I don't have Ichiraku's so early usually, so it always tastes different..."

"Snuck in an afternoon run lately?" I ask.

"Haven't been able to, usually too busy once the academy kids get out, and with their parents too. Prices are good if you do get in, though." He slurps up a few more noodles, then takes a sip of water.

"Lots of stories from your trip, hopefully."

"Tons. And Pervy Sage was going over his philosophy and all that...he's really interested in getting us towards a peaceful world in the future. If he doesn't get there, then he's hoping that I'll carry the torch for him. We'll have to see...there's still a lot that I don't understand."

"You'll get it one day soon," I assure him.

"I hope so. Hmm...though as far you two are concerned, it might be that old thing between snakes and toads?"

"I think it runs a bit deeper than that," I say before drinking from my glass. "Fundamental differences in ideology."

"Stuff like that, eh...hm."

"Don't worry too much about it for now. We can figure everything out together," I say with a smile.

"Yep!" Naruto quickly finishes his first bowl and feels at the second. "Still plenty warm. Alright, I'll tell you about our first big stop a few years back. So like, Pervy Sage was getting led along by this lady, like he always does, and we ended up at another one of those gambling houses..."

---

Seeing as my new home isn't complete yet, it means I will have to wait just a bit longer to give Naruto his surprise. I hint at it and he seems excited enough, but definitely more restrained than he used to be. It's nice to see that he's growing a bit. Not too much, though. That boyish spirit is a big part of his charm.

"Guess I'll see you again in a bit, yeah?"

"Yes, certainly. Take care, my love. It was so good seeing you again," I say as I step outside once more.

"You too, Lili."

We share one more warm hug before exchanging waves. The door closes behind me and I jump into the day, floating towards one of the nearby rooftops before bouncing off again. It's just past noon, and my stomach feels much lighter than before. Lunch might be good soon.

"Wonder what I should eat...I promised Teuchi a date tomorrow, so I'm going to make sure that my stomach is empty...oh, look who it is down there. Seems he made it back early."

I take a good leap and sail through the air, landing on the street a fair distance from my target. He's posted himself against a tree this time, looking out at the world as per usual. Even more mysterious than before, eh...he's preoccupied with something at the moment, it seems.

"Hmm."

His forehead protector has changed to black now, first off. Another jacket with a hood to go over the one he's wearing, both in black also, with the top coat being a touch lighter than the bottom one. The collar he's used to is definitely bigger, too. That's just like him. A new, sturdier pair of black glasses – he must have gotten annoyed with having to adjust them so often, hence the new style that makes them look a bit closer to goggles. There's a satchel on his back, which I can sense has more insects inside of it. Increasing his carrying capacity, then. Hm. I have to wonder...can people even recognize him like that? Obviously I can, but it must have been a shock to some others.

"Shino! Did you get it for me?"

"I did. Sorry for the wait."

A young woman who I don't immediately recognize sprints up to Shino. Her silky smooth hair is cut to her shoulders, and her forehead protector is tucked safely underneath in its headband form. Dark shorts paired with netted stockings, showing off her legs. The arms aren't bad either, and she has solid sleeves covering her elbows. The green blouse she's wearing looks fancy, too. Though I suppose those are affordable enough on a chuunin's pay, as evidenced by the vest...eh. Wait a second.

"That's...Futaba, isn't it?"

Futaba Azuma, yes. From the way she's behaving, she and Shino have gotten quite close. Well, good for her. I'm glad to see it, especially after all of that nonsense earlier. Interesting how she's filled out, though...mm. Not bad.

"Miss Kiko and I are having tea tomorrow, so you might see me then. If not, I'll give you a call. Thanks for this, honey."

"Any time. I'll see you soon."

She smiles and blows him a kiss before taking off again. I could have greeted them both there, but I want Shino to myself for now. It's been a few years, after all.

"Shino, my love."

"Hm?" He turns to face me as I approach. "Boss...is that really you?"

"In the flesh, yes. I spotted you from across the way and just had to say hello in person."

"I'm glad you did...some information did filter through that you were around, but I wondered if you were busy readjusting to the village and its affairs-"

I cut him off with a hug.

"You're as silly as ever. I always have time for my loved ones...especially someone who has been so loyal to me from the start."

"Welcome home, Lili." I feel him hug me back.

"Thank you."

I smile and pat him on the shoulders as we separate. He tilts his head slightly to look me over.

"You look quite inviting to the eye in this form, to say the least."

"So I've been told, hmhm. What do you think about the look, too much?" I smile and twirl around once, flipping my hair gently.

"It's quite fitting, Boss. I couldn't imagine you any other way."

"I do love it when you stroke my ego, Shino."

"Of course, Boss." I can tell he's smiling beneath that big collar of his. "Were you coming from the Hokage's Office, by chance?"

"No, no. I went to see Naruto earlier. Hina, Hanabi, and Neji were first, followed by Iruka. Tamaki gave me a call, so I'm set to go there soon enough...more than a few visits to be made, but I should have plenty of time as it is. That was Futaba I saw earlier, wasn't it? I take it you're an item now?"

"Somehow, we are. She's been very patient with me, since...you know."

"I know a lot, and I also know that you're an amazing person. Congratulations to you both, I'm so happy!" I give him another hug.

"Thanks, Boss. We've been getting along pretty well...we're both happy as we are."

"I love to hear it. So, what did she stop by for all of a sudden?"

"She asked me to pick up a piece of equipment that she forgot, so we met up briefly to make the exchange." He pauses. "Naruto, eh. Compared to you, he's..."

"Eh? What happened?" I ask, concerned.

"I know it had been a while, but...people should try to remember their friends. Why? Because it hurts the other person's feelings badly if they don't."

"..."

Well, Naruto would be thick enough to forget Shino. I don't know how anyone can miss this kind of guy in the first place, but this is a world of mystery and intrigue at times.

"So...how did he figure it out?" I ask.

"My supposedly annoying way of speaking."

"Ah."

"You agree with him?"

"It is a bit annoying, you have to admit."

"Hrm."

"I like it, though. It's comforting to hear you chip away at other people's statements, and interrogate them at opportune times."

"You're just saying that to make me feel better."

"Is it working?" I ask.

He puts his hands in his pockets and huffs quietly. "A little."

"Heh. I should pester you about Futaba some more, but it can wait until later...have you talked to Kurenai recently?"

"Last week. She's still on leave...I take it you found out about her pregnancy already."

"Pretty much. How far along is she?"

"It will be eight months starting next week."

I let out a low whistle. "Not even a year and a half, eh. So much for restraint."

"My sentiments are the same...although unexpressed." He coughs. "Pregnant women are rumoured to experience increases in strength while enraged. It's a defence mechanism."

"Against who or what?" I ask.

He shrugs, and I roll my eyes at him.

"Indulging in old wives' tales yet again, are we. Well, let's go and see her. She can try and use her newfound monstrous strength on me after I bully her a bit. Banter is fun, but sometimes you just want target practice."

Shino chuckles as we start our walk. "You really haven't changed too much. Good to have you back, Boss."

"It's good to be back, darling."

Something riding on the currents at speed...I look up to see a hawk soaring through the sky. Express message?

"From the southwest, then..."

"Everything okay, Boss?"

I have a strange feeling coming on. And one of the things I've learned while training with Midori is to keep myself on high alert whenever those feelings do appear.

"I have a better idea of my luck these days, believe it or not. We'll need to take a rain check on this home visit."

"Did something happen?"

"It's about to," I say with a frown. I pat Shino on the shoulder and start towards the Academy complex. "Give Kurenai my love, Shino. I'll see you soon."

"Right. See you then, Boss."

That steady rumbling continues, as the hawk shoots towards the Leaf Aviary.

"The mistress of shadows, and the terror of a new age. She aims to dismantle the world's great powers and set her people free, with the strength that manifests in her two hands. The one who calls herself the daughter of heaven, a warrior with a ruthless light speed technique...she is known across the world as the Scarlet Viper."

From a darkened past, Lilith came to the Leaf participating in an experiment to become a kunoichi. That experiment, started just five years prior, came to be an incredible success. Now, the once sheltered girl from a lonely mansion has become the most complete warrior, a valkyrie nearly without peer. Though she still has some way to go, she is already revered and feared across the five great shinobi nations and beyond. Her prized techniques are the Lightning Release Chakra Mode, an ability that pushes speed beyond a shinobi's normal limits, and the ultra-fast lightning art that obliterates enemies at the speed of thought: Mobius. With these tools on their own, Lilith was already incredible. But she took measure after measure to meddle with those jutsu, among others, and has driven them to unthinkable levels of strength. Now calmer and even more matured, she bends the flow of battle with her mere presence.

"One of history's most elite shinobi, she sees no true divide between herself and normal human beings. Her great compassion for others, no matter where they might come from, has endeared her to much of the Leaf."

Lilith is a princess and has declared it so to the public. She makes sure to act the part, moving fluidly with style and grace. She is polite to those she first meets, and saves her brutal hostility for those she feels are deserving of it. Sometimes stern, but never rude when instructing others. Merciful in most circumstances, though these days she seems to regard most punishment as a waste of time - her flames of hot rage have have changed to a terrifying chill that can rend the hearts of hardened men. She is ever tender to her friends and loved ones, showing them as much affection as she can, though she's not averse to having fun and teasing them to satisfy herself. Lilith carries the love and memories of her beloved sisters: Rosemary, her half-sister by blood and most precious person in the cosmos; Midoriko, the unrivaled Empress of the serpent world and revered elder sister; Lunamaria, her loyal and lovely maidservant who now lives as Midoriko's wife; and Hinata, now the Hyuuga heiress once more after blossoming into a vibrant woman with Lilith's help. One of the oldest and most important relationships she holds to is with Naruto Uzumaki, the host of the Nine Tailed Demon Fox who once struggled with loneliness. In a single moment, Lilith made a promise to love and accept him, no matter what he was or might become. He has since taken himself to new heights, and displays bursts of wisdom along with his spirit. These bonds and more are immensely important to Lilith. Nobody who even thinks of damaging or severing them will escape her unyielding wrath...not even those she calls allies.

"A complete kunoichi - in body, mind, and spirit. She is able to dominate any conflict, on and off the battlefield. The shining daughter of Kobayashi House, and blessed mother to the Leaf's orphans and outcasts, her social and political power grows with each turn of the Earth."

Lilith proves she is first class in every professional interaction. Her observational abilities are elite, and her situational awareness allows her to control any scenario once she gets enough leverage. Though her age says that she is still a teenager, everything else about her speaks to her stature as a woman of the world. She has overcome darkness over and over, surged through trauma, and chose at every turn to rise above herself. Lilith is charming beyond measure, immediately charismatic, and constantly thinking ahead. She is and has been the darling of the current God of Shinobi: The Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi. They speak candidly with one another, and Lilith is frequently entrusted with difficult and secretive tasks on behalf of the village. Lilith's growth and ability are widely recongized by her peers in the military, and whether they like her or not, they have an immense respect for her skill in every area. Men and women twice her age or more breathe sighs of relief, and have hope in their hearts that they will see home again whenever she appears before them. Lilith humbly accepts the praises of others, and has gone from hesitantly considering a senior leadership role to embracing a bright future as the next Hokage. With a desire to sharpen herself further before taking the main stage, and the backing of the God of Shinobi himself, not even the sky might be the limit as far as her prospects are concerned.

"Over and over, the world has been turned violently by conflict and war. So it has been for hundreds, perhaps thousands of years, coming down to this fragile peace. As the envoy of heaven, and blessed daughter of Almighty God, she seeks to change that order forever. The chains of strife will be broken by her hand, and the blessings of possibility will come into the hearts of men once more. So shall it be."

Friends and loved ones call her by the name Lili - a name gifted to her by an eccentric, spirited heroine from the West named Caroline Athena Rothschild. Lilith's birth mother gave her the name as a secret blessing, signifying her as a flower of heaven that would give beauty to the mortal world in the future. Caroline was taken from the world, suddenly and tragically, and this along with neglect by her remaining parent scarred Lilith deeply. She was sent into a dark spiral, locking her emotions away behind walls and drowning in pain. Caroline's spirit endured within her, visiting to remind her of the heavenly strength that lay within. And on a fateful mission to give a second chance to loved ones, Lilith awakened to her true nature. She blossomed as the heavenly flower that Caroline worked tirelessly to raise. Many more blessings and tragedies would follow: from the heartrending choice to end her father's terror, to the gift of yet another powerful name after a violent dance with the Inugami Mother Wolf. Lilith's ability to shake the world at its foundations has grown, and will continue to grow for as long as she exists. She is the one who stands above the children of men, with lofty ambitions and endless drive.

"She is a woman of stunning beauty and impeccable class. Her delight is to drink in the contented gazes of women, the flowers in her growing garden. Her taste for aesthetic is well known in the Leaf, as is the allure that makes men and women alike feel helpless against her charms. Sophisticated, devilish, and very attractive - a most dangerous combination."

Lilith indulges in many earthly pleasures: food, books, and hot baths are among her favourites. Her most daring indulgence? That of the female form - a fact that she no longer attempts to hide. Awakened to her true nature before arriving in the Leaf, and finding numerous ways to get her fill, she has reintroduced herself as an open and proud lesbian, and a taken one at that. She absolutely loves to watch her little flowers as she calls them, and light teasing is a must. But so is delicacy, as she never bothers a woman who is uninterested, or causes her lovely targets distress. The rumours that once spread slowly through the village have turned to gossip; naturally, nobody can say what exactly she gets up to. Brilliantly charming, with a cool and mysterious aura, she is the talk of the village at most any hour. Her influences come from her elegant older sisters Midoriko and Lunamaria, as well as her mother, Emi Kobayashi. In the Kobayashi way, both women balance elite discipline with their forays into hedonism, and do it quite well. Thanks to a period of uninterrupted training, a healthy diet, and a continuing growth spurt, Lilith has grown into a true beauty. And as is her way, she makes sure to flaunt what she has, whenever it's safe to do so.

"The woman called the Scarlet Viper is growing into a terrifying being, with no signs of stopping in the near future. Those who stand across from her on the edges of the shinobi world are already wary, trying to calculate what she could do next. But with her sights set on the title of Hokage, and the world's unification in the footsteps of Salamander Hanzo...it may not matter what their plans are, in the end. For she who stands atop the world, in her mind, must be the one to decide its fate."

She has joined hand and heart with the man who became a criminal for the sake of the Hidden Leaf, Itachi Uchiha - saving his beloved little brother from corrupting darkness, and helping him find his way once more. She stands opposed to the man who walks the earth under the guise of Madara Uchiha, one of the most powerful humans to ever exist, and the eternal rival of Hashirama Senju, the Founder of the Hidden Leaf. And within her own village, she seeks to erase the hands of darkness attached to Danzo Shimura, orchestrator of coups and massacres across the shinobi world. The state of the world must change, as she has declared, and the power of the cosmos that rests inside of her shell will ensure that justice will be done. This woman with heavenly strength will do more than keep promises and answer the prayers of loved ones, she will change the world and resolve the endless strife that binds it to war and conflict. Challenge after challenge has been overcome, and more will appear to be toppled. As she has pledged to herself, the mandate of heaven will be written for a new, shining age. The world will see the end of its formless dream of fiction, and awaken at last to freedom. The chains of history will have no meaning, not against the strength of the most terrifying soldier, the Crimson Nightmare herself.

Primary Style: Offensive Ninjutsu
Physicality: Flexible/swift. Uses a lithe body and acrobatic movements. Techniques focus on speed, flexibility, and the ability to escape every scenario.

Techniques:

Summoning Contract: Snakes
- these are versatile creatures, able to strike within a moment's notice, bind enemies, and carry out a number of supplementary uses. They are not confined to any one role and as such, their power and reliability depends on the summoner's personal style. Currently, Lilith has the command of lesser snakes all the way up to Midoriko, the current Empress of all snakes in the kingdom. She can take on different forms, and enjoys her human transformation the most.

Summoning Contract: Chaos Connection
- a seal inscribed into the user's body. Allows an instant connection with the snake kingdom at the cost of chakra. This can be used to summon smaller, unranked snakes at will and used to summon classified snakes that are within the user's memory. Also allows the user to communicate with those who share the same connection of seals. This unique seal also contains esoteric abilities available to those with the requisite compatibility and skill.

Summoning Contract: Chaotic Movement (Crim)
- using the help of Crim, a strong jawed and extremely elastic snake, the user can pull just about any object towards them or pull themselves towards any given object. Crim can also be used as a quick counter attack, though he mainly shoots ahead of the user.

Summoning Contract: Chaotic Bulwark (Aoko)
- using the help of Aoko, a snake with strong and durable skin and scales, the user can defend against almost any attack, while Aoko herself absorbs the impact. An extremely strong shield that can be used in many situations, including to defend comrades individually or in a group. Aoko's powers and abilities grow along with her master's.

Secret Art: Chaos Conversion
- using the power of the inscribed seal, the user shifts their very essence into a form that is reflected on their soul. The conception of the 'ideal self' makes this something that goes beyond the well known Transformation Jutsu; it is not a temporary technique that disappears with lack of chakra, but a full body transformation that is permanent for as long as the user wills it. This is the technique that Midoriko uses to enjoy life in a human-like form, and that Lilith uses to become a 'red mamba', a very fast snake with potent venom at its disposal. Due to the amount of risk and training needed to master this art, it is little used except among the inhabitants of the animal kingdoms.

Shinobi Art: Jacobson's Eye (Indomitable Special Tracking Technique: The Eye of Jacobson)
- like a snake, the user can taste the atmosphere (or objects) to detect scents and chakras. The collected data can be used to track targets, decipher obstacles, and maneuver without the aid of the other senses. Detailed pictures of the surroundings are painted in the user's mind as they identify people and objects. Pathways of light also appear in the user's mind to help them towards their target as well once they are locked on. This technique evolves with repeated use, suited to individual strengths.

Shinobi Art: Crimson Depths
- an advanced version of Jacobson's Eye. Improves the technique range to 10km at its bottom end. Like a snake, the user can taste the atmosphere (or objects) to detect scents and chakras. The collected data can be used to track targets, decipher obstacles, and maneuver. Detailed pictures can be created within the user's mind, as well as pathways of light to lock onto targets. The technique evolves with repeated use. With Crimson Depths active, the user's bloodlusted state grants them extra pain tolerance and durability until they returns to normal.

Crimson Depths: Void Heart
- an alternate status derived from its parent technique. Void Heart seals away the user's emotions completely, turning them into a perfect killing machine. Every ability and technique is improved and more precise thanks to the focus granted by this state of mind. But every technique has a cost: the emotions from before are not destroyed and will flood back into the user's psyche violently once the technique ends. Void Heart will be forcibly terminated with heavy damage or emotional trauma during a battle. With the support of Cosmic Awakening, the impact of Void Heart's termination has been lessened.

Shinobi Art: Negative Vibration
- requires the user to be motionless at time of use. This technique allows the user to feel vibrations through the air and earth, among other things, and decipher objects or people through the feedback. While it works immediately and effectively, it takes a proficient user to distinguish targets by vibration and displacement, especially in a crowded area. It paints vivid pictures in the mind of the user with the received and deciphered vibrations. A fully evolved technique, it asks for strong refinement on the user's part, and is useful in a team environment to get ahead of enemies.

Cosmic Awakening
- this allows the user to transcend their own humanity by solidifying their existence on the cosmic plane. As they awaken, they are able to see the flow of life at will, and their spirits slow the effects of decay on their mortal shells. Their perceptions of reality and spatial awareness are vastly sharper than any normal person. This also allows the user to communicate with those who no longer exist on the mortal plane, and in some cases interact with them. It goes without saying that with advanced understanding of the world's flow of energy, techniques are enhanced, with some arts getting a greater boost than others. The advancement of new abilities depends entirely on the personality of the chosen person.

Shinobi Tool: Hebinozomi (Serpent's Wish - Midori's Butterfly Knives)
- ornate twin knives that can be opened and closed rapidly with a flick of the user's wrist. Gifted by Midoriko, and kept close by for sentimental purposes.

Shinobi Tool: Murakumo (Gathering Clouds)
- twin combat and hunting knives with blades made from Red Iron. Highly durable, able to conduct chakra flawlessly, and with gleaming red metal, intimidating to most enemies. These are the main weapons used for techniques such as Jakyou Messenga and Jarin Renshouga.

Lightning Release: Möbius [Type 1 Plus: Godspeed Cannon] (A-Rank, offensive)
- a technique formed from hyper compressed lightning chakra. After focusing the energy into one point, the user fires it from their index finger like a gun. The technique explodes outwards in an instant, piercing anything in its way and delivering massive damage to obstacles. When fired from up close, it can become even more dangerous. A high speed assassination attack that is the antithesis of Chidori. This technique can be charged and fired within 1 second under normal conditions. It can also be fired repeatedly or from both hands at reduced (half) power, called [Second Barrel]. Several variants have been created to use in battle.
[Type 2 Plus: Double Barrel], where the user uses their index and middle fingers on one hand to increase the attack power twice over. Now enhanced to allow for repeated bursts or bursts from both hands, called [Double Barrel Duo].
[Type 3: Epyon], where the user fires a hyper-condensed blade of chakra outward from their fingers in a split second. Used as a high speed, close range attack that is mainly used for cutting instead of piercing. [Twin Epyon] is a special version coming from both hands.
[Type 4 Plus: Aegis Impulse], a concussive burst attack that can paralyze the opponent directly with electricity, or perform similarly to the air palm attack of Hyuuga at longer ranges. The enhanced [Impulse] version now allows the attack to be fired as a concussive arrow of light.
[Type 5 Plus: Zeta], an attack that uses a burst of chakra through the earth or other surfaces. It travels forward before exploding upwards at the designated point in a thin, concentrated blast intended to rip through the enemy. This attack can be transferred with more power through the hands or with more speed by the feet. Now enhanced with a new form, called [Double Zeta]. This is a follow up attack that allows consecutive strikes from Zeta to either trap the opponent or deal double damage, by being used in sequence or simultaneously.
[Type 6: Artemis' Umbrella], an electrical force field that briefly appears and bursts outwards, clashing with attacks and opponents to stop them in their tracks. The short and explosive duration means that further actions can be taken right afterwards.
[Type 7: Buster Rifle], an attack that segments the user's available combat energy into five pieces, and compresses them for a massive attack. Using the same stance as Type 2, a total of five overdriven wave bursts can be fired upon a target before the user is exhausted, with their arm sustaining variable levels of damage due to recoil. These bursts contain power comparable to Tailed Beast Balls, covering wide areas and travelling extremely long distances. A more powerful variant can be used by including both hands, called [Twin Buster Rifle], with the previous rules applying.

Lightning Release: Valkyrie Bullet (B-Rank, offensive)
- a variation of Hinata Hyuuga's Lightning Release: Valkyrie Arrow. The user pulls lightning chakra into their fist and shoots forward violently, unloading a straight punch into the opponent that sends blue sparks flying outward. A great amount of damage is caused by the sudden, explosive nature of the attack and the impact that follows. A technique with a singular focus that shines situationally.

Lightning Release: False Darkness (B-Rank, offensive)
- the user emits lightning in the shape of a spear from their mouth; its destructive power is great enough to even pierce through rock. The user can increase the number of spears to attack multiple enemies. This technique is capable of being focused into a straight beam, similar to a laser.

Lightning Release Chakra Mode [Stage 2 > Stage 3: Full Boost > Stage 3 Overdrive: Trans-Am > Stage 4: Twin Drive] (B-Rank, offensive/defensive/supplementary)
- the user wraps their body in a layer of lightning chakra which is used to electrically stimulate their nervous system. The technique speeds up neural synapses reaction time, and pushes physical prowess to the absolute limit allowing for tremendous raw speed. The technique has different levels of activation: the higher the level, the higher the speed the user can achieve. This mode also increases the user's defences, drastically reducing, if not completely negating, damage from incoming attacks. Full Boost changes the user's chakra to red. Trans-Am changes it to orange. Twin Drive changes it to white.

True Lightning Release: Quantum Drive (S-Rank, offensive/defensive/supplementary)
- most effective with the chakra mode at Trans-Am or higher, but can be used in short bursts in any form. A technique that allows human beings to transcend normal limits, view the flow of all life, and most of all, operate outside the bounds of normal time. The technique also allows the user to move within frozen time and multiply the strength of their attacks. Wings of light form at the user's back and their eyes become red as a result of this form. The feedback to the body from extended use can be severe. At current the limit is 10 seconds of real time.

Water Release: Exploding Water Colliding Wave (B-Rank, offensive/supplementary)
- the user spits out a great volume of water from their mouth, swallowing up and crushing the enemy with the advancing surge. The user can ride the wave, allowing them to move at high speed. The amount of water created is proportional to the amount of chakra used. Afterwards, the excess water can be used for additional Water Release techniques.

Water Release: Water Shark Bullet (B-Rank, offensive)
- the user shapes water into the form of a large shark, and thrusting their hand forward, sends it hurtling towards the opponent at high-speeds. The user can also ride inside the water shark to dramatically increase their swimming speed. Multiple sharks can be fired at once, transforming the attack into [Water Shark Buckshot].

Water Release: Great Water Shark Bullet (A-Rank, offensive)
- the user creates a gigantic shark out of water and, by thrusting both hands forward, sends it to attack the opponent. This technique differs from the original, since this is able to absorb the chakra from an opponent's technique and in turn, use that chakra to grow larger and more powerful. Therefore, the stronger the opponent's technique is, the stronger this technique will get. A reversal type technique.

Water Release: Water Dragon Bullet (B-Rank, offensive)
- the user moulds water into the shape of a dragon, which they then direct at a target, dealing significant physical damage as it crashes down upon them. Ideally, users will use pre-existing bodies of water for this technique, but sufficiently skilled users can instead create the water themselves, spitting the dragon from their mouths. The more talented the user, the greater the amount of water that the dragon can be made from. Advanced users can also form multiple dragons at once.

Water Release: Sky Grasper Plus [True Air Waltz] (A-Rank, supplementary)
- allows the user to manipulate water underneath their feet while in the air. This allows movement in the air and redirection is also possible. The enhancements to this technique allow the user to move through the air with great freedom as long as they have concentration and energy to spare, meaning they can essentially 'run' through the sky and bounce from position to position. The steep requirements of mental fortitude, body control, chakra control, and sharp spatial awareness make this a hard technique to learn and one that's even harder to master.

Water Release: True Tearing Torrent (B-Rank, offensive)
- an enhanced version. The technique creates water that spirals in the user's hand, which fires at a high speed towards the enemy. It can also be conjured from the surrounding area in the form of a torrential wave.

Water Release: Water Formation Wall (B-Rank, defensive)
- the user spits a stream of water from their mouth at the ground, which circles around them and rises upward to create a wall. If the user is standing on a body of water, they can instead create the wall from the surroundings. The water wall defends anyone within its perimeter from attack, with the wall's strength being determined by how much of the user's chakra is put into it.

Fire Release: Great Dragon Fire Technique (B-Rank, offensive)
- the user compresses a large amount of chakra built up inside their body and changes it into a dragon head-shaped fireball. The user then skillfully manipulates that great fire, and attacks their opponent. Even outside of the attack range, its power and reliability are stressed. The flames have a high temperature, which can create an upward movement of air currents which in turn can give rise to thunder clouds. A master of this technique can fire off several flames in succession, changing it into [Dragon Flame Release Song].

Fire Release: Great Fire Annihilation (B-Rank, offensive)
- called the pinnacle of Uchiha Fire Release techniques. Chakra kneaded inside the body is converted into fire, and then expelled from the mouth and shaped into a sea of flames which covers a wide range. This makes the technique extremely difficult to either avoid or contain, with it requiring the combined efforts of several Water Release users in order to extinguish the flames.

Fire Release: Ash Pile Burning (B-Rank, offensive)
- the user spews a stream of chakra-infused gunpowder from their mouth, which surrounds the region. As the gunpowder is composed entirely of ash, it stays in the air around the victim like a cloud, which can be used like a smokescreen. After surrounding the enemy with the ash, the user can ignite it with a flint placed on their teeth beforehand to create a spark, resulting in a violent explosion, burning the enemy. The flint can be replaced with a lightning or fire type technique to achieve even greater effects.

Hidden Shadow Snake Hands [Striking Shadow Snakes] (C-Rank, offensive)
- this technique allows the user to eject snakes from their wrist or sleeve, usually after a punching motion. The snakes are used primarily to attack from a distance and, being snakes, can inflict multiple poisonous wounds on the victim's body or hold them in place. This technique can also be classified as a variation of the Summoning Technique and can also produce snakes from different parts of the user's body.

Many Hidden Shadow Snake Hands [Multiple Striking Shadow Snakes] (B-Rank, offensive)
- by increasing the amount of snakes summoned with the Hidden Shadow Snake Hands, the diversity of this ninjutsu is increased. The swarm of big snakes appear in an instant, each snake individually doing something like intimidating, diverting, or capturing the enemy in a cooperative attack. Without giving them the time to react, the enemy is entangled.

Shadow Clone Technique (B-Rank, supplementary)
- this jutsu allows the user to create one or more copies of themselves. The user's chakra is evenly divided between themselves and their clones: creating one clone will give it half the user's chakra, creating two clones will give each a third of the user's chakra, and so on. Depending on how much chakra the user has and how many clones they make, this rapid depletion of their reserves can be dangerous. Because of this, usually only those of at least jōnin-level can safely use the standard Shadow Clone Technique. Unlike the basic Clone Technique, shadow clones are physically real. They possess the same clothing, damage, and transformations as the user at the time of their creation. Most tools and weaponry are copied when the shadow clones are created, but complicated technology won't be duplicated. Because they are visually identical and possess the same chakra as the user, shadow clones are indistinguishable from their original, not even by doujutsu.

Lightning Release: Shadow Clone Technique (A-Rank, offensive/supplementary)
- this technique allows the user to make a shadow clone infused with lightning. Because it is a shadow clone, it is able to perform techniques and interact with the environment. If the clone is injured, it will revert to its natural lightning-state, at the same time electrocuting whatever makes contact with it. Unlike a regular shadow clone, however, it does not send chakra back to the user upon reverting to lightning.

Shuriken Shadow Clone Technique (A-Rank, offensive)
- this technique was invented by Hiruzen Sarutobi, demonstrating his title as the "Professor" with its conceptualisation and efficiency. After throwing a single shuriken, the user duplicates it with their chakra, in the same way that the Shadow Clone Technique makes copies of the user; creating shadow clones is already difficult on its own, but specifically duplicating inanimate objects is even more difficult. In an instant, the thousand copied shuriken spread throughout the area, surrounding the target. Because the shuriken are physically real, the target is attacked from every direction, which they have almost no chance of completely avoiding.

Water Release: Water Clone Technique (C-Rank, supplementary)
- This technique originates from the Hidden Mist Village. Using water from the surroundings, the user creates one or more copies of themselves. Unlike the standard Clone Technique, these water clones are physically real, allowing them to interact with others and even perform the same jutsu as the user. Although a single water clone can be quite challenging to a standard genin, water clones only have about a tenth of their user's strength. When a water clone is sufficiently damaged, it will revert back into water.

Sage Mode (supplementary)
- Sage Mode is the result of using natural energy along with a shinobi's normal chakra to drastically empower all of their abilities. It is the empowered state humans enter when they learn to draw natural energy inside them and blend it with their chakra. By doing so, the human creates new senjutsu chakra that allows them to enter Sage Mode. Sage Mode enhances the combat efficiency of the user by allowing them to tap into the natural force of the world that opens new techniques to the user and allows them to power up existing ones with the new senjutsu chakra. The advantages afforded to those who learn senjutsu include:
- The user's physical strength, speed, stamina, reflexes, perception and durability are dramatically enhanced.
- The user's ninjutsu, genjutsu, and taijutsu become substantially more powerful.
- Those who have mastered the Sage Techniques of the Ryuuchi Cave have shown the ability to use natural energy to breathe life into inorganic substances and control them.
- The user gains the ability to sense chakra around them much like sensor types, and they also gain the ability to sense attacks without needing to see them.

Sage Art: Mobius Zero [Zero-Type Mobius] (S-Rank, offensive)
- combining sage chakra with the already formidable Mobius results in this supremely powerful technique. Power, range, speed, and recovery time are all drastically improved, making this an unrivaled version of Mobius. The inherent difficulty in shaping and firing sage chakra like this means that this is not expanded to many of the variants; however, the original version is more than sufficient to cause massive damage. At full strength, in the [Zero-Type Mobius: Duo] form, this can rival and even overwhelm the strength of tailed beasts. The current limit is three bursts while in Sage Mode before the sage chakra is exhausted.

Sage Art: Inorganic Reincarnation (offensive, supplementary)
- allows the user to breathe life into inorganic substances by filling the atmosphere with natural energy. This Sage Art can be used to enslave objects with no life functions, such as the earth, giving the user the ability to make even drastic alterations to the immediate environment that occur both suddenly and unexpectedly.

Sage Art: White Rage Technique (offensive, supplementary)
- a senjutsu used by those who studied in Ryuuchi Cave. The user expels a dragon-like entity from their mouth that carries an orb in its left front claw. As the dragon tightly coils itself around the orb, it releases both blinding light and deafening sound. This alone greatly hinders those in the vicinity but, due to the intensity of the resulting vibrations, paralysing pain is also induced.

Sage Art: Starch Syrup Gun (offensive)
- the user kneads chakra, along with natural energy and then converts it into large amount of high-viscosity water within their mouth before spitting it outward with an incredible amount of force. The projectile-like force of this technique combined with its monstrous volume gives it the capability to quickly cover a wide area.

White Snake Sage Art: Jakyou Messenga (S-Rank, offensive/supplementary)
- using chakra, the user wraps themselves in the aura of a snake and charges forward at an incredible speed, tearing into and through unfortunate enemies. The technique requires a fair amount of chakra and excellent control. Its range is also deceptively long, making surprise attacks possible. The current limit is four uses in a single battle without Sage Mode active. While in Sage Mode, the attack crosses through the opponent and then back rapidly, doing additional damage and allowing strategic resets. Now enhanced so that it can be used while in the air.

White Snake Sage Art: Jayoku Houtenjin (A-Rank, offensive)
- with a burst of chakra, the user moves with enough speed that they disappear from sight. The following moment has the user deliver a crushing kick that sends the target sky high, trailed by a dark well of energy. The shell shocked target usually cannot recover in time, either before they hit the ground or are hit even harder by a follow up attack. While in Sage Mode, the sheer power of this attack increases, to fatal degrees for most shinobi.

White Snake Sage Art: Jarin Renshouga (S-Rank, offensive)
- with the help of Chaotic Movement, the user captures the opponent with a paralyzing pull and drags them high through the air. Flying up towards them, they slash through with their knives and then repeat the action while dancing through the air with the help of a technique such as Sky Grasper, up to four times. The final attack has the user come down from above, pushing chakra into their knives before crashing down into them with a vicious diving slash. In Sage Mode, the attacks are faster and heavier, landing eight times in total. The final attack has the user followed by the spectre of a massive snake, energy barreling down and through the opponent with unfathomable force.

Forbidden White Snake Sage Art: Ragnarok (Forbidden, offensive)
- an incomplete technique, abandoned once before by Midoriko Ryuuchi and the White Snake Sage. Said to obliterate the target's soul if ever used, by flowing a torrent of natural chakra through them and detonating it by some unknown means. However, the risks for the user seem to be inapprorpriately high as well.

I hope whoever wrote this attached a more officially worded file behind it or something. It's way too personal and complimentary for an official document.

There's too much accurate breakdown of her techs to be a decoy.

Scarlet Justice: Full Blossom – ep. 06
"Accelerando"
[Kazekage Rescue Mission, Part 1]
---

"Captain Kobayashi, ma'am!"

Right on schedule, a young lady in uniform drops down from the sky. She quickly salutes me.

"Good afternoon. How might I assist you today?" I ask her.

"Lord Hokage requests your presence at the Mission Assignment Desk, ma'am. There is an urgent matter regarding the Hidden Sand Village."

"Thank you. Let's head over quickly, then."

"Yes, ma'am."

We take off together and cross the short distance quickly, then settle into a speedy walk towards the assignment desk. Familiar faces are waiting for me there.

"I wish we could have had our reunion under calmer circumstances...either way, it is good to see you again, my child."

"Likewise, Lord Hokage."

Hiruzen nods and gives me a smile, smoking away on his pipe like I remembered. Iruka gives me a friendly wave from his position on the right.

"Lieutenant Kariya, you are dismissed for now."

"Yes, my lord," my escort says. She leaves quickly and it's just the three of us now.

"Urgent situation in the Sand, then," I say. "I had a bad feeling once I saw the hawk coming from that direction."

"They sent Takamaru, their swiftest. There was no doubt," Hiruzen says. "Iruka, the data."

"Sir."

I walk up to the desk and take the paper from Iruka. Not much to go on, but enough for our purposes. Right...Iruka did mention the other day that Gaara had become Kazekage. Now according to this, he's been kidnapped by the Akatsuki. I know he's sinned earlier in his life, but something like this isn't what he deserves. Not after all of the hard work he's done.

"From what I can recall, the flying menace with explosives mentioned is Deidara, originally of the Hidden Rock," I conclude. "Akatsuki members like to travel in pairs, so he must have a partner. Whether they were already in the village or outside of it is in question."

"What do you mean?" Iruka asks.

"The Sand is weaker than us, but their perimeter defense is nothing to laugh at. There was someone on the inside feeding the infiltrators vital information and possibly betraying their comrades. Thinking about it some more, we might have a sleeper agent on our hands. We can deduce their identity in time. In addition to all of this, they took Gaara alive. That lines up with their plans from before..."

"They mean to take the One-Tail, Shukaku. Gaara dying in battle would stifle their ambitions," Hiruzen says.

"Yes. It means we have a chance to rescue him. Still, these Akatsuki fellows are strong...the precision needed to merely knock him out instead of killing him puts them firmly in S-Class, just as we know from the reports we've obtained."

"That means we'll need to send a good sized fighting force," Iruka says.

"I would like to appeal to Lord Hokage regarding the mission formation," I say while looking towards Hiruzen.

"Of course. I was going to ask about your intentions just now. What are your plans?"

"I want to get to the Sand as quickly as possible, then have one or two teams following in order to help seal off potential escape routes. I believe that Akatsuki will move towards settling in River Country in order to evade their pursuers. Earth Country is troublesome and dangerous, Fire Country is on alert already, and other potential safe havens are too far away, increasing the risk that they are confronted and caught. There's no doubt they have a hideaway somewhere close by, and esoteric concealment techniques to match. The mission is a failure if we let them leave Wind Country."

"And the inital team formation?"

"Myself and one other."

"Lili, that's not viable. You yourself said that these are S-Class criminals," Iruka says with worry.

"I did say that. What I didn't say was that I was worried about it," I reply to him. "The strength I have cultivated is enough to move mountains, Iruka. I am one who possesses enough speed and power to stop Akatsuki in their tracks."

"Who is your second, then?" Hiruzen asks, curious.

"I have several people in mind, but my first choice is Might Guy. The two of us would be able to take on an accelerated pace and cut down the travel time to the Hidden Sand. As I have said before, time is of the essence. Our speed and my tracking arts will help locate the kidnappers efficiently. And our combined power will erase them in short order. I don't intend to bully the Sand into submission, either. I already have a rapport with some of the village's upper echelons, and connections with a solid team of specialists from an earlier goodwill mission."

Hiruzen thinks on it for a few seconds before nodding.

"Lord Hokage, are you sure?" Iruka asks him.

"Yes. What say you, Iruka?"

He blinks. "Me?"

"Lili is one of your favourite students. I believe that you should have input when it comes to this most important matter."

We look into each other's eyes. The slight worry from before melts away, and he gives me a warm smile.

"You're no longer just a student of mine...you're a woman of the Hidden Leaf, and one of its most capable shinobi. I won't stand in your way any longer, Lili. Go and get 'em."

"Yes, sir," I say with a smile.

"I'll send for Guy," Hiruzen says.

"My preparations will be complete in thirty minutes or less. I would like for him to meet me at the main gate within the hour at the latest, and tell him not to pack too heavily. We will discuss our speed with a briefing, but I intend to reach the Sand in twenty four hours - preferably much less."

"That's really fast," Iruka says with surprise. "So that's your play, then."

"Yes. As for reserve forces, I would like two teams to follow after me, in sequence. Shino, Hinata, and Kakashi first to cover any reconaissance and first aid possibilities. Lee, Neji, and Tenten for utility purposes and synergy with Guy. The first team should take the shorter approach directly towards the village, similar to what I will be doing. The second team I want to follow about a half day after that, moving quickly enough so that the two teams might catch each other. They will be able to follow up on anything that my team and the first support team might point out on their journey."

"Good. I will check the availability of all requested members and organize them as needed. We will send a message to the Hidden Sand detailing our intentions no later than tomorrow morning," Hiruzen says. "Good luck, Lili."

"Thank you, my lord. And thank you for your endorsement, sensei."

Iruka nods. "Right. Good luck, and come back safely."

"Ah, yes. One more thing..." Hiruzen searches through his paperwork before finding something and handing it to me. "The documentation was reviewed and approved several months ago. I wanted to hand it properly to you in person. As of now, you are officially promoted to field officer status. Once the full review of your knowledge and abilities is complete, the full increase in rank will be applied. This should help you with diplomatic affairs, and I will also be forwarding this information to the Sand as quickly as possible."

"I see. Thank you, my lord."

"Of course. I will not hold you up any longer, Lili. Be well, and do what you can for our allies."

"I promise I will do my best, my lord. Please take care, both of you." I give them a bow before leaving.

The Hidden Sand again...hopefully everyone I need help from is available. But if not, I can figure something out quickly. That is one of my strengths, after all.

"Okay. Time to do this."

---

"Hopefully I haven't kept you waiting long!"

I check the timepiece on the inside of my wrist. Thirty three minutes.

"Not at all. In fact, every minute saved is a blessing to those who call for our help. Thank you for assisting me, Guy."

"Think little of it. So, shall we begin our rescue mission?"

"We shall. I would like to check our equipment before we set off."

Guy nods and sets down his backpack to open it. We're both travelling relatively light, for several strategic reasons. And for both of us, we don't have too much of a need for weapons - whether it's Guy's astounding taijutsu, or my powerful ninjutsu, we have our bases covered. A few useful tools, some reserve weapons, and survival implements are all we need for this flight into the desert.

Might Guy is...Might Guy. An optimistic, energetic, and confident man with inspired eyebrows and hair like the underside of a bowl. He has an intense sort of jawline to match, and height that goes along with his muscular frame. Although to notice it, you would have to ignore the jumpsuit and the gaudy orange leg warmers. Lee has copied this style down to the letter, and for heaven knows what reason, I spied a similar outfit at Naruto's place a few years ago. Horrific fashion sense aside, Guy has proven himself as an accomplished shinobi, a sharp mentor and educator, and a village elite. There are very few people I would have by my side against such strong enemies, and he happens to be one of them.

"Checks are done. We should be very well equipped for this run," I say upon finishing.

"Excellent. So, we're heading to the Hidden Sand to gather intelligence before taking off after the kidnappers," he says while adjusting the red forehead protector around his waist.

"We are. How soon do you think we can reach the Sand safely?"

"Hmm..." He places a hand under his chin. "I think that we can reach it in half a day, easily."

"That sounds fair. The reason I called for you is so that I could push that envelope to a reasonable degree. I want between eight and ten hours."

"Hoh, that quick? I see...that's well within calculations! If you're ready, then I am as well!"

I nod. "That's what I was hoping to hear. We'll push for the first three, take an hour break, and then see about the next four after that. Taking a bit longer won't be the end of us...but I want to suffocate those Akatsuki bastards before they realize we're on top of them."

"Hah! Seems like you're in form as usual, Lili."

"I can't stand getting dull in these times," I say with a flip of my hair. "Let's be on our way, so that we can save the bulk of our run for the cooler hours. Half speed through the forest as I lead, full speed side by side once we hit the desert. Here."

He takes one pair of goggles from me, and we slip them over our eyes.

"Ready?" I ask.

"Ready, ma'am!" he replies.

"Go."

We take off into the air, with him slightly behind me as we move. The wind howls as I hit the first branch, and continues as I hit the others in sequence. This isn't a speed that most shinobi travel at, in part because it's unsafe, and also because they're not built for it.

We're different, and we're going to take advantage of that fact.

---

"That should hold me for now..."

It's evening now, and we've stopped for our scheduled break. A good burn is going after about three and a quarter hours, but it's nowhere near enough to hamper us. Some tasty energy bars and previously cooked meat from my shopping trip have left us wanting for nothing as we rest. Currently, we're on the inside edge of River Country, resting underneath the trees with a small fire going.

"Here we are, a most rejuvenating beverage! Always makes me feel youthful after downing a glass." Guy hands me a bottle, and I take it before shaking it up a bit.

"Thank you."

"I've heard that you've been undergoing potent training in a foreign land, and things like this tell me that it was a great success. Most people would have a hard time keeping up this speed, even if they have high battlefield prowess."

"Mm. I did learn a lot in my time away," I say before drinking from the bottle.

"It seems so. I must admit, I was less skeptical of your skill and more worried about your potential direction within the village, when I first heard about you. Of course, my worries were settled once Lee gave me his first report."

"He told you about that incident? I thought you would have disapproved of my actions."

"Lee is a obedient, earnest child...suffice it to say, his strength is a good ways ahead of his social skill," he says with a chuckle. "I can't hate something like that, but I do understand how it might be difficult for people to deal with."

"I don't think badly of him, but yes, he is a handful to deal with." I take another sip. "I suppose that's part of his charm, though."

"Haha! Of course!"

"I'm honestly glad he has someone like you to look after him."

"Oh? You really think so?"

"It's the truth. You know how I come across, but-"

"No, no. I'm just flattered, that's all...Kakashi praises your skill and composure, and the things I've seen of you confirm everything he's said. I was just thinking you would have a few more airs put on, even in times like this."

"That's certainly something to say." I laugh softly. "I understand perfectly what you mean, Guy. I sincerely mean it when I say that you're a good influence and teacher."

"Thank you very much! I'll continue to work hard, as always. That's my promise to you, Lili." He strikes his famous...or infamous, depending on who you ask, 'nice guy' pose. This is the spirit of youth that seems to have reached every young man in the village, and enough of the older ones as well.

It's something that...makes me happy to see.

"You know, through various circumstances...I met the Founder once before."

"The Founder...ah, you mean Lord Hashirama! It must have been during the invasion of the village."

"Yes. You remind me a lot of him, you know."

"Eh?"

I nod, and he blushes lightly while rubbing the back of his head.

"Is that so...?"

"It is. I suppose it's things like that...that make you so strong in the end. He was an interesting fellow, Hashirama. I rather liked him...which is also interesting in and of itself."

"How so, Lili?"

I lean back against the nearby tree and close my eyes.

"The two of us aren't much alike at all, these days."

---

A while later, with our bellies full and legs refreshed, we slip on our goggles and race through the forest again. Forest gives way to rocky lands as we enter River Country. We don't stay long, and soon the path changes to a scattering of trees and shrubs before flattening out completely.

Wind Country.

"Formation," I call out.

"Formation," Guy responds. He moves to my side and matches my pace.

"Full power."

"Read, full power."

Moving at high speed. Calculating for twelve hours, a little over forty six meters covered in one second. For eight...about seventy. Still a few hours to go, but my legs feel fine as we accelerate into our pocket. I'm sure whoever is trying to monitor the area is more than a little confused, but they should get over it once we arrive at twilight.

"How are we doing, Guy?" I ask through my communicator.

"Fantastic! The goggles were a very good call...they're comfy, too."

"Good to hear. Keep those for yourself, alright?"

"Got it."

"It shouldn't be much longer now, and conditions are favourable. Estimated time of arrival is twenty three hundred hours."

"I read. I have a question, if you don't mind."

"Of course. What might you need of me?"

"I was under the assumption that you would have brought Naruto with you on this mission. Your synergy from what I've been told is stellar, and you have a good understanding of each other."

"It's because I know so much about Naruto that I want to leave him out of this," I say solemnly. "You know the details well enough. Naruto is the same as Gaara...a jinchuuriki. A human sacrifice to contain the world shaking power of the tailed beasts. He formed a bond with Gaara in a short time, and he understands the pain of loneliness, being loathed for something he barely understands, something that is not his fault. He would have a great motivation for seeing this mission through."

"Then why?"

"Because I love him, and I am a maternalistic sort of person in the end. I want to protect him from himself and his impulses while I still can. Some might call it stifling, but of course, there is even more of a pragmatic reason for my actions. Naruto is reckless, and at times his emotions consume him. For that reason, he may be tempted to turn himself over to the influence of the Nine Tails, so that he might see his justice through. I cannot tell if Jiraiya has solved that problem or not, but it's something that we cannot risk. For Gaara's sake, and his own since Akatsuki would love nothing more than to get two jinchuuriki for the price of one."

"From what I've been hearing, they need to be sealed in order."

"Supposedly, yes. That doesn't stop them from mutilating and torturing him into submission...or at the end of the day, cutting their losses so that they can capture the fox later, without a bothersome host. Akatsuki is sending the world hurtling towards a tipping point, and they will be all too glad to collect money while the world starts to collapse and they wait for the Nine Tails to reappear. I have confidence in my power, but nothing is going to go well if the other nations find out that the Leaf has lost its symbol of military might."

"Hmm. I see."

"I am a selfish person. And I would rather not see that boy hurt if I have the means to prevent it. I can handle things on my own, and he can cultivate his strength by other means."

"It's little wonder he's looked so happy since the Academy. Perhaps you might think yourself overbearing, but all good mothers worry about such things occassionally."

"Is that so...well, I'll keep that in mind for the future. But yes, that very much explains why I kept Naruto off the mission roster. At least for now...I'm sure he'll pry the information out of someone by tomorrow and embed himself on one of the other teams. I'm counting on it, actually."

"What happens then?"

I smile. "He'll get to welcome Gaara back, of course. Nothing else to it."

The approach after a few hours is simple enough. We start to slow our pace through the sand, before reaching the flatter, more stable land that extends out from the village outskirts.

"..."

The bodies have been cleared out, but I couldn't miss that scent for anything. Blood. Lots of it, soaking the rock steps on either side of the passage towards the village. The turncoat must have killed their comrades standing on guard in anticipation of the Akatsuki's arrival - I know that Jiraiya gave a warning out to the administration during his travels.

"Who goes there?"

"Shinobi of the Leaf," I reply to the shinobi ahead of us. He has wild black hair.

"Names?"

"Mission leader Lilith Kobayashi, and my comrade Might Guy."

"W-wait...we sent Takamaru out this morning! The distance from Leaf to Sand...that's three days travel!" he says, utterly confused.

I slip off my goggles and rummage through my pockets. "Here you are, a copy of the emergency message."

He takes the scroll from me, unfurls it, and looks at it with wide eyes.

"My apologies, Major Kobayashi, ma'am. Please, this way."

We follow him swiftly into the village proper.

"As you know, Lord Kazekage has been kidnapped by the Akatsuki. However, it gets much worse..."

"Is Temari here?" I ask.

"Lady Temari has yet to return from her diplomatic mission in the Leaf."

"So we passed her somewhere along the way...but it was for the best, since we made it here quickly. You say things have deteriorated, then. How so?"

"Lord Kankuro has been gravely wounded. He chased after the bird-using Akatsuki straight away...there must have been someone else there with them, because he was found with all of his puppets destroyed, and in a terrible state. He's been severely poisoned, and nobody within this village has the knowledge to counter it. According to our medical team...as it is now, he only has three more days left."

Tsunade would be able to figure it out...so would Sakura, perhaps. That would be one disadvantage of the route I took. Well, it's to be expected.

Fortunately, I can cover this angle as well.

"Since it's still early, we have a fighting chance. You fellows can gather up the intelligence that you have for us. In the meantime, take me to where Kankuro is."

"Ma'am...are you also a medical shinobi?" he asks.

"No. But I don't need to be in order to solve this problem. Unless you have something else in mind?"

He shakes his head. "No, ma'am. I'll take you to where we have him resting, Treatment Room Three."

"Guy, make sure we have writing instruments ready. I might need to take a few notes if things don't go well."

A new wrinkle, but nothing we can't handle. Here we go.

Love Lili's chats with people. This one with Guy is just another to the many back and forth conversations I've enjoyed. Thanks for sharing this wonderful story.
