Both sides are hax, it's just that magic is the easier way to get hax.
Esp hax require you to be crazy and out of touch with reality
Magic hax just require you to have enough mana and the right legend to base your magic on

it easier to go for magic hax

[x] Don't tell them

Our power seems pretty unique if the ability to be able to use magic is any indication. I don't want the scientists finding out about them. Remember Misaka? Remember the test they started with her clones and Accelerator? Yeah, let's not tell them.

[X] No

I remain firm to my stance, to say no to drugs Level Upper. Besides, we'd be missing two-odd days worth of events just for a glimpse of our ability at higher level. Even if nothing happened during those two days (doubtful, especially IIRC Saten and Ruiko are our friends), that would still be missing two days worth of grinding for hard and permanent addition to our stats.

[X] Survivor Stats Plan
-[x] Agility +5
(Total: 6)
-[x] Endurance +3
(Total: 4)
-[x] Intelligence +3
(Total: 5)
-[x] Insight +4
(Total: 5)
-[x] Charisma +3 (Total: 6)
-[x] Willpower +2 (Total: 3)

You know what I learned from playing a lot of RPGs? It would be that it's better to have a stat to focus on than being an all-average. No strength because why have them when you can use magic? Agility is important because dodging is probably the most important checks you'd want to succeed. Second is Charisma, then Insight and Intelligence. You don't want to get tricked or not realize something, which could contribute to a failure in social combat as much as the inability to say what needed to be said. Endurance simply because I don't want to pass out at the worst of times, but otherwise, I think you're doing something wrong if an action took too long. PR and Belief are something you can grind for once you have some down time later. Will we be good at a fight? Right now, no. But will be good at passing most situation and staying alive? Oh, yes.

E: Just rechecked. No we're not friends with Ruiko and Saten, but doesn't change the rest of the argument.

if you know anything about this setting
then you would put point into magic
that side is hax
To be fair the hax magicians have generally comes from either years of training and research, just being really lucky at birth, or having sweet magical items with them.

And what makes magic so nice at least compared to Espers is that with enough hardwork you can see an improvement, with Espers most are just born with low potential, so the vast majority are stuck as Level 0s, or 1s and no matter how much you study or try you'll be stuck there for a long long time, and those who do have Level 5 potential can be counted with just two hands out of 1.8 million Espers.
Also for my own vote

interaction with the IB tends to break down Personal Realities
this does not make sense
do we touch touma every day or something cause touching IB is the only way to shut down our PR
and it wouldn't damage our PR at all, it would just return to normal after IB stop touching us

Add a dash ('-') to your stat addition votes. That way the vote machine will count it as part of the [] stats vote even if the vote counter's set to individual votes.

Most mages we see in canon have only a couple of tricks focused around a single theme knowledge about magic is very valuable. This suggests that you both need rare knowledge to learn any magic at all and the difficulty of learning it means learning more than a few spells is prohibitively hard.

On the other hand we live in a city filled with Esper training equipment and documents. At the moment esper powers are better than magic because we don't have any access to magic training rendering our potential moot.

Later on the relative value between magic and esper powers will be based off of what kind of magic training we get access to and the utility of our power.

huh...

The average time a Level Upper has until going into a coma is roughly three days.

Today is the 21st, the Arc ends on the 24th...

How did I time that so well? I didn't even mean to do that...

Also Touma touches Misaka pretty much every week or so before they stopped dueling.

If having both magic and esper abilities is possible, then there's no way I'd let either be any less than 4. That being said, I'd value insight more than intelligence for better reactions in both social and combat situations. No 5s because I refuse to have a dump stat when we don't know about how the interactions that requires rolls really work for this quest yet.

Also, why are people choosing to use the level upper when it gives a temporarily inflated stat which we then can't really display later?! at least without significant amount of time used for training the ability anyways. All this would do is make us a bigger and more well-known target but without the actual ability levels to back it up.

Edit: added the stat changes by the traits.

so that mean that if we time this right, we don't go into a coma

Level Upper gives an XP boost for later because we actually know what our higher leveled power can do and makes it easier to get there again.

The only drawback is fainting...which we won't. Not enough time

We actually do have a potential teacher coming soon, and she's basically the best teacher we could get too,
Index, especially since we live near Touma, and we might be able to bribe her into it, as soon as she realizes we can do magic without exploding horribly, and we take her to an all you can eat restaurant after each lesson

for the people that say we can't learn magic
i say shut the fuck up and listen to this guy

That does require we:

1. Meet her.
2. Leave a good enough impression that she is willing to put the time into teaching us.
3. She realizes we won't die horribly.

All of those things could totally happen but it would probably take a story arc to accomplish 2 as Index is kind of lazy.

It still means the value of the magic is related to what she is willing/able to teach us. What kind of magic she offers can vary the value a lot.

this is the girl who can make a golem punch itself in the face using her voice and a few clothing pin
any thing she can give us is good enough

Index herself is very hax but you should keep in mind that she is literally inhumanly good at magic due to those books jammed in her head. She isn't going to be able to give us her vast reserve of knowledge and talent we have to make due which whatever spells she thinks we are, capable of, can be trusted with, and have a legitimate use for which may not be what SV thinks is great.

So what type of magic is the main character going to learn if he learns it at all down the line of this quest?
