Perhaps a miners guild hall?
Or great port (in the subterranean river we found that flows out into the sea) though that needs to be cleared of any nasties living there.
Or sky bridges
Or a hidden lift to the mountain bottom
A great stone bridge between mountains, some of them run like great highways between holds. Immune to infestation. Though most are in ruin due to the age of woe
do we have another peak so we can justify it im thinking an elevator that goes from the top to the bottom of the mountain as a much better thing now all i have to do is put it into words and iv got nothing on how to start
You watched as the umgi entered the valley, many of them looking at ease as they seemed to enter your holds defenses. A foolish thing to do as even a dwarf hold was never truly safe. The Thaggaroki having proved that on more than a few accounts to your people's detriment despite the sieges that your fellow holds had suffered. Maybe a lesson was needed on how they should always be alert.
Especially with the new threat that lay in the mountains. Your legs urging you to turn to the halls of Gazul. The freshly lain kin put to rest only a few weeks back, their beards thank the ancestors still intact, while the others had yet to be found. You blood burned for shame at the thought, many of these rangers being your comrades since Garazidom, but it was an issue that would have to be sorted out, especially as that cave lead somewhere and anything that could take your rangers unaware would need to be dealt with both eyes and ears open.
Brushing through your beard, a fine ivory brush gifted by the Umgi in thanks, you shifted your thoughts. Your eyes turned to the preparations for your coming marriage that lay atop your dresser.
A rather small spectacle all things considered, only a hundred kin and friends invited. Something you approved of as you did not have the ale to spare for a proper feast (the nearest 10 holds). The little you had left already having been laid out for the use of the ceremony, the only barrels not opened was that of Bugmans. Though that was only because of the quality of the brew and you would not waste that on standard drinking lest you took the slayers oath, Something all your guards agreed upon.
Especially as you likely held one of the few barrel sets to actually remain. The clan that had made them struck with disaster not even a few decades ago. A pity really as the brew was a true delight, why your clan had taken more than a few grobi heads for that insult. Not that it helped make more of the stuff but you would hold it for a truly grand occasion.
As is the works of your people would have to sustain your clan for the coming years. Especially as it would be two more years before fresh ale was secured. Though how the clan would survive that you were not sure, with the Umgi of Bree still fitting over Balor's attempt at negotiations it might pay to hail the elflord, or even the surprisingly eager to please Umgi of Anfalas for Ales and (ancestors forgive you for saying this) wine. Of course you'd be paying for is with good Dawi steel, or if need be aid (the throng was getting restless), but it did grind your gears to ask so much especially to elves and new friends... Still, the year had been good and you would take solace in that as well as your small personal stash of ale. A Thane had needs after all and it's not like all your kin were going to be dealing with the grudges that were likely to occur soon.

[x] Establish or Improve Relations with The Nearby Umgi:
There are many umgi within the lands around the hold and even further afield. Though you do not know all of them they may be of use in the wars to come. Maybe sending a few dawi to establish contact with those nearby would ensure they know you are friends and not the enemy. Though you suppose you will have to visit old allies anyway as they do tend to live rather short lives.

You stared at the elder and nodded as he finished his report. Your form hopefully appearing calm you carefully reached for some ale to calm your nerves, this was going to give you a headache. You just knew it would. You had thought despite their earlier behaviour that the men of Bree could be reasonable, and perhaps contain even a sliver of the honor of their taller kinsmen. Then again after having met them in person, it was clear the umgi had it coming. Really was it so hard for them to just speak of your allies and kin in decent terms. Complaints for shoddy craftsmanship were acceptable, even the odd case of Dawi forgetting to pay their tab would be waived aside with proper Dawiguild. But when it concerned their honor... Gripping your tankard tightly you felt like breaking something, they had bled for the ungrateful Wazzocks and then they dared to shame one of your allies.
Taking a sip of ale you tried to calm your mind. The umgi had been dealt with quite handily, Balor having done what any good dawi would do against such a slight. Even if it was more restrained than some of your kin only demanding a rather small price of two hundred gold and the blood of the gang's leader to right the wrongs done against your ally. Not that it went over well something about the umgi been related to one of their councils leadership, a little issue but it was a small price to pay.
Then they had to prove where the idiocy had spread from the leaders trying to execute your kin. Annoying but that had been easily dealt with and the grudge settled already. Judging from their faces when you mentioned it to them your response seemed to perplex your allies. Bah for all their wandering in the wilds, and nomad lives they were too soft when it came to slights against them. Why you didn't know, but then umgi rarely made sense. A good thing you were around though, maybe this will help them learn how to deal with such insults. Draining your ale you turned back to the reports before you. There was more to do and the example made would show the umgi how you would react should they treat your allies and kin 'poorly' again. Your wrath was not limited to greenskins, and it would be good for them to learn it.
(Relations With Bree -3)
[x] Establish relations with Gondor:
The umgi you fought beside made mention of a large kingdom off to the west. Said to be under constant threat from dark forces as they border many of their regions. Maybe establishing some contact with them would be a good idea, as you never know when you will send an expedition to calm the blood of your clan. Though their territory is large so the question is. Who do you send your diplomats to?

You swirled some ale in front of you as your mind went over the words in the report and could not help but wonder why the umgi were establishing themselves where they were. At least find a cove to easily defend, claiming a long stretch of plains along the coast was just begging for raids, which the elder had proven quite adept at turning back. Still it was surprising how eager they were to talk with you, and its not like Balor had gifted them some great works, why as far as you could tell it was only a few umgak weapons and armor that he had lying around with him. The few other things were even worse off from the lack of proper facilities. Still, it seemed the umgi liked them well enough, Balor even bringing back some 'complimentary wine' that he swore actually made him feel slightly lightheaded.
Their reaction was a little much in your opinion, as the wine was followed by a letter asking for a potential meeting 'between lords', they'd even gone so far as to offer to establish a colony close to Lindon (you having vetoed their offer of establishing within the elf city), with another few more of their kin sent north to the enclave you were building for the Dunedain. While Balor had argued for them to recolonise Tharbad (his dunedain guide promising the chiefs aid in holding it) the Umgi seemed rather against sending more of their people to hold the large ruin, a shame as the architecture of the place was breathtaking, especially the bridge which made your kins work in Ubersreik look miniscule in comparison. Now you just had to figure out what the umgi were up to. This had been a little to easy for your liking.

You watched as the elders marched as one against the beardlings and young veterans of the hold. Their two formations closing on one another closely while the few umgi in the valley seemed to be intrigued by the spectacle. Letting out a huff, you turned away and inspected the large training field.
The Area having been sculpted to train the Throng to the best it could be. A good thing really as some of your kin were getting a little sloppy as of late. Not that the urks of this new land were a challenge something that was rather annoying as their seemed to be a growing discontent at not finding a worthy foe to meet the standards of your elders and ancestors. Something you would have to see too.
Though as you watched your clan engage one another in a savage skirmish you knew it would not be easy. But your clan would be ready and that was all that mattered and if you failed to find a worthy foe then at least you could uphold the oaths as your people should.
[x] Send out The Throng to clear a distant region:
The lands around the hold are to peaceful and despite the recent bloodshed, there are those who are eager to spill blood. Sadly while there is no great battle to be fought there is things that lurk in the lands near the mountains with which the hold resides. Send out the throng to deal with these pests before they become a problem and so that you can shut the elders grumbling down.

Rolled: 22+17=39
You let out an annoyed grunt as you read the report in the solitude of your chamber. The hearth crackling loudly to your ears, the clan having proven its worth in hunting down a few threats in the lands of the umgi. The odd travelling wight, a feral squirrel, some lost orcs. You had a report of Dawi traveling down wells to fight 'monsters'. These monsters having been some aquatic mutant orc relative that barely grew larger than hobbits themselves. Contrary to local legend they didn't eat umgi or hobbits, though their constant fouling of the water meant they were a nuisance that needed to be removed. Really aside from the odd raid (that it seemed a few pitying Dunedain had let through), there had been few engagements, with your kin gaining greater experience sketching down the local flora and fauna than fighting foes. Then again with how few threats seemed to inhabit this land maybe you should not have been surprised.
Not that it solved the issue of your clan crushing anything they faced under boot. Something that was both good for the land and your allies. Though it did not solve your people's boredom. Especially as it seemed to be agitating the beardlings. Letting out a sigh you left your chamber you needed to walk. Especially with the way your friends and aunt were going about your impending marriage.

[x] Build the umgi a proper Enclave:
You swore an oath to assist the umgi in establishing an enclave near the hold, something that is bound to help deal with pests in the area. Though the area's they have designated are not to far from the hold it will require some preparation to see it done. Still, this will be the first of your works within a new alliance and no expense will be spared in ensuring what is built will ensure their safety. You Grumbled as you inspected the first wall of the umgi wall and could not help but curse at your lack of resources. The damned place would need to be expanded upon in the next decade or so. Looking around you spotted Alrik near one of the completed houses as he talked with a number of your clan. The elder having worked long hours beside you to see this project complete.
Approaching the elder you spotted a small tunnel entrance off to the side taking form, while the main housing distracts was finally taking shape. The Street just large enough for at most two carts side by side, leaving only enough space for a few stalls and stables. The Remaining infrastructure meant for another district. While the houses were far better designed their stone structures built to withstand an assault should there be a need. While their balconies jutted out over the side acting as the perfect perch for a few archers. While the houses themselves were placed right next to each other with a single entrance ensuring there were no alleyways for a skulking enemy to exploit.
A rather simple but effective design really and one that was well and tested by your umgi allies. Hopefully, the umgi would use this properly should there be a need. Now if only you could get everything done before the umgi arrived. Shaking your head you focused on the Fortress your future project finally starting construction. Now you just needed to speak with Alrik.
[x] Excavate a Brewery:
A Dawi needs Ale and a Hold needs a lot of it to keep running and dawi from going all strange, Thankfully all dawi clans know how to produce Ale even if it is not the best, of course as Engineers you like yours a little stronger and know what you're doing. You poured out a measured cup of ale as Alrik took a seat across from you. Your elder looking tired and worn out as he glanced at the tankard in distaste. Watching him grab the drink you leaned back into your chair. "Still having issues with the brewery?" Though as you watched him shoot you a withering glare he nodded.
Alrik slammed his tankard down as he stared at you. "Aye, still plenty of issues with the damned thing. But it's mostly sorted now and I can have some rest." He grumbled while glancing back at his ale. "Would have helped if we had half-decent ale to, instead of this damned umgak drink you found to hold us over."
You shrugged at his complaint well aware of the issue. "Nothing I can do about it, still I hear the brewers have already begun preparing to brew some fresh stock though I doubt it will happen for some time without some of the needed equipment. " You said while taking a deep breath as you glanced warily you now empty barrel the last of your stock securely hidden. Not that it would last long.
Alrik and you talked for a time longer as you went over the details for the coming construction and what would be needed before parting ways. Your talk with your elder tiring but at least any more issues were sorted. Still their was more to do, hopefully, things would get easier in the near future.

You Jolted as your chambers doors burst open. A ragged and tired ranger barging into your solar as he breathed heavily. While sounds of movement could be heard outside, Putting down your report you focused on the ranger to gather his breath while pouring him a little bit of ale. Your eyes drifting back to your kin. "Drink." You ordered as you waited for the ranger to gather himself, your kin having looked to run a far distance.
The beardling gave a tired nod as he took a short time to recover before straightening. "My thane, Seventh squad has yet to return. Elder Josef is preparing a squad to investigate but requests that the Throng is prepared should there be a threat marching on the hold.
You nodded and signaled for him to follow him, making for the armory you felt a ball form in your gut. "Return to Josef and let him know that we will be ready, though he is not to engage the hostiles if it can be helped." You said rounding a corner and entered a small armory for your gear. Waving off the beardling you prepared for battle all the while hoping that the squad had only gotten lost and not run into some new threat in the area.

You stared at the cave mouth as you gripped your hammer tightly. Your kin having been taken down from where they were hung. Though you felt uneasy staring at the pair of your kin, both of them looking to have been killed quickly and efficiently, their bodies hammered with cruel nails into a dead tree. Letting out a sigh you approached Josef as he inspected the area a scowl upon his face. Coming to a stop next to him you stared out to the Horizon. "Any sign of the others?" You asked with trepidation and your heart heavy, some of these rangers having followed you from your fathers own grobkulls into joining the corps.
Josef shook his head as you watched him turn to you in the corner of your eye. "Aye, we found tracks leading deeper into the cave. Counted around hundred different tracks in the area, all of them leading to the same place. We may need the Throng to march in there but we need information first." He Grumbled while turning to face the cave. "spotted at least three different areas that traps could be set and I will not have the clan suffer more losses if it can be helped.
You nodded while staring at the cave warily, a dark crown with three glowing gems set atop its entrance. It seemed this land was not as peaceful as it first seemed, still you would avenge this grudge no matter the cost. Your kin would not die without need, especially when you were so few.

Rolled: 100+17=117
It had been a horribly sunny day when the familiar sound of Ranger horns echoed through the valley, hold, and eventually your study. Thanking the ancestors with all your will you hastily told your aunt (who was busy pushing for her favorite to be selected) that marriage perpetrations had to be 'postponed' as you had 'ranger business' to attend. The burning rays a (comparable) relief to what you endured you blinked as instead of Ansgar or Josef before you stood a surprised ginger dwarf, whom if he forwent his shirt would not look out of place among a throng of slayers...
You stared at the dawi before you, the ginger instead staring at the hold behind you both in shock and surprise, only for Josef to come out of nowhere clapping him on the back before pointing at you. The Dawi started barking in some derivative khazalid, only for the chief ranger to tap him on the shoulder leading to the dwarf to face palm. "Hail Gotri son of Snorri. I am Fror son of Nor, of Nogrod." He said a little enthusiastically for your liking. The shock gave way to suspicion again as after a while he shifted back into that derivative language before catching himself with a sigh.
Soon the entrance to the hold was filled with more ginger dawi, menfolk unsurprisingly, but two, what seemed to be bearded Kvinn, certainly caught your eye as they looked at your rather rudimentary hold with hope and awe. The arrival of your prowling aunt only seeming to confuse the red-bearded dawi and his fellow kin more., something that only grew worse as more than a few of your curious clan migrated out to start interacting with the new arrivals. Thankfully as the sun began to set you managed to get their Thane to follow you to your chambers to discuss a few more important issues. Something that was desperately needed after they were discovered in one of the ancient ruined holds your dawi had found in the last year.
***
Pulling up your finest furniture to the warm hearth your guards had tended to while you were gone you took a seat across from your fellow Thane. Before you sat one of your more treasured Ale barrels, a family gift from your mothers uncle (Kadrin #7 Proof) in rememberance for a hunt you had performed with him before coming of age. With a great sigh you opened it, pouring some for the two of you. "Now that all the pleasantries have been seen to." You leaned back to sip (not drain!) the ale, the customary feast already in full swing led by your aunt and 'potential brides'. "Thane Fror, it seems the ancestors were smiling on us today, it truly is good to meet with Dawi again." The dwarf lord coughed at your words, already swaying slightly in his chair, the ale 'barely' touched. "But what were your people doing amongst those ruins, surely you have some fortress within it, protecting you and yours form those that would overrun your rangers?" You asked curiously as you stared at your kin. "From the reports Josef was giving me I'm surprised any Dawi would be living there with half of the levels flooded and masonry falling at the lightest touch."
Fror looked tired as he took a draught of ale only to cough violently from the brew, he stared at it strangely before turning to face you. "Surviving, what else would we do out here? Our kin abandoned us long ago to dwell in the east and soon after came the orcs, and worse far worse..." He shuddered with a grim look. "Where else were we to go but to dwell within the ruins of our forefathers halls?" He growled glaring at some nameless aggressor. "But to not even attempt to restore the halls?" You asked curiously, only to flinch at the scowl aimed at you. "We have dwelled in those halls for near on 6000 years Gotri son of Snorri." He growled. "In that time my line has done little more than fade, our numbers whittled down by beast, avarice, and time." You eyed him, brow raised. "Sound's more like a longbeard too deep in his ales to me." You grumbled as the dawi hissed. "Longbeards?! Durin's Folk?! They abandoned us in our time of need, and left us to ruin as they looked ot delve ever deeper!" The tall Dawi shouted towering over you, only to calm at your confusion shooting you a strange look. Taking another sip, this time with greater relish he cleaned his red beard before continuing. "I Thought my group was the only one in these mountains. We have kin to the north but none live in these cursed hills, even those poor fools in Belegost still dwell north of Hobbiton and have 'decent' tidings with the elves. Did the others answer the call for aid?" The hope in his voice and eyes slowly growing.
Letting out a sigh you shook your head sadly, the thane opposite slumped. "Nay, my clan have long since been out of contact with the Karaz Ankor., nor have we heard or met any of this land." The dwarf looked tearfully at you at your words. Sighing you gave him a smile. "Though none the less it was a fortuitous meeting, even if it was merely chance. My folk have dwelled here for near 10 years and even if it is a surprise, Dawi help Dawi. So what aid can clan Silverhammer deliver to you?" You leaned forward in joking whisper. "My clan's been pestering me for months for a fight so we'd be willing to deal with any and all Urk problems you have should you be willing to share?" The gingers brow flared at the words. "So that's what it is! You learned we had Mithril?! Who told you! I knew we shouldn't have let old Greybeard in after we found it!"
You blinked at him. "Mithril?" He stared at you, his rage slowly fading into confused perusal. "I was talking of grobkull's whats mithril?"
Your answer had the dwarf squish himself into the chair almost seeming to attempt to hide himself under its great frame. His reaction something that had your gut burn. That your kin would fall so low that they abandoned their own leaving them to squalor to the point they feared an offer of aid would be met with payment, rather than sacred oaths of kinship. Still, the following talk while both painful shed a lot of light on the current affairs of the dawi of these lands. It was bleak but they had endured, and perhaps ancestors willing with your help they would one day walk their ancestors halls with pride.
***
You let out a tired sigh as you heard the celebrations outside your newfound kin mostly knocked out from drink, which was surprising seeing how they'd barely touched their ale. The lot of them appearing rather lightweight for your liking but clearly their lives had been hard with little luxurious found in most holds. Hopefully the feast would ease their burden before they returned home. Now if only your work was done.
Your eyes glancing over to the report before you shook your head it could wait. It's not as if much had been found the ruins having been picked clean by your kin as they scavenged from the ruins. Many of what was found useless to the hold. Though the reports of a strange metal stream within a thick vein of silver had at least lifted your spirits that something more could be found. The few samples found having proven to be quite durable after heating though the lack of weight was strange. Still much had been found and away from the clansdawi of 'Nogrod', so you might as well ask them if this mithril of theirs was anything like the ore you had discovered. Now you just had to draw up some plans and then you could rest.

You walked around the hold greeting your kin as they went about their business your eyes gliding over the multiple works of your clan. The last few years having allowed you to expand the hold greatly and while its defenses were rather minimal it would have to do. Shaking your head you turned your thoughts back to the more pressing issue.
Your eyes darted around for your aunt or friends and thankfully found them missing. Had you known what kind of storm you would unleash you would never have let the clan know. Though it seemed that things were aligning as best they could the few unmarried kvinn in the hold already presented to you and your advisors. Something you would curse the embarrassment of having to do this yourself annoying. Still, your kin was doing their duty and despite the Trepidation, you felt you knew that the few Kvinn presented while not outside the hold would have been a fine match. The only shame was that they would not help the hold grow externally. Something their skills and looks would have ensured. Still, while the hold would not grow from new connections with a different clan they would aid you extensively in running the hold. A good thing really as you knew you were not the best you could be.
Though as you walked around the hold you could not help but shiver as you spotted one of the prospects. The young kvinn helping out in the hold as she went about her day. They would do well in the hold but why did all of them make you feel so small and unskilled. Especially in the training yard.

You are unsure if you should return the fallen weapons to them, in their current condition, or restored, even if it is the right thing to do.
[X] Restore them: Rolled 68+15(Dawi Smiths)=83
[X] Find and Return them to their makers: Rolled 58+25=83
You watched as the weapons were sent on their way. The umgi guarding them closely alongside your clan rangers. While the odd blade bearing the crest of some Dunedain noble family had made its way back to their rightful owners the majority were destined to to some elgi city to your north. A good number of the Dawi weapons were found to belong to the inhabitants of Nogrod though they asked you to retain all but a great sword among them for now, having proven worthy of them. While the thought irked you, you acquiesced. The fact that for the rest you had to rely on the Elgi to divine their owners was more than a little annoying but it still warmed your heart that such beautiful artifacts could be returned to their rightful owners. And perhaps give an earful on how to look after such things as while their owners obviously fell in combat against the urk, the miserable state your kin had found them in was disgraceful. But you would not deprive their descendants of the weapons that they deserved.
Thankfully it had not required all that much effort the blades only needing a bit of sharpening and cleaning to get them back into a proper state. While it was no issue to your kin it still felt strange for so many weapons of magical nature to be among them. The elgi ones were obvious, them being a magical people unto themselves, but even the Dawi and Umgi blades, clearly of their own make held a flicker of magic within them that would make even a runelord lime green with jealousy for enduring so long.
Not too long after (a year), a letter came from the Lord of Anfalas with many a Gondorian lord asking him to give their thanks to you for restoring and returning such venerable artifacts of their forefathers. Apparently few remembered they had a history beyond something called 'Numenor', so it had been seen as a kingly gift by the local fief lords and houses and a bearer of hope in these dark times. Or whatever umgi grumble about these days...
The biggest point of interest had been the suits of armor, while they'd taken a while to boss out, being a combination of plate and fine (Dawi level of fine) mail, their crests had been quite surprising, with one returned from Gondor to Rivendell. Something about the House of Beor. While the latter two were sent to a clan in Lamedon. Of course they'd been interesting works, catching the light of the moon quite nicely, but as pieces of armor they were quite primative. Barely even an inch thick, though surprisingly hard. If you didn't know better you'd claim it was Dawi work, but not even your newfound kinsmen crafted like that...

I know it not what you expected but another arc is coming up in a few turns. Sadly you guys are roughly another 20 turns away from the war of dwarfs and orcs. Which means I got another Arc or two to complete. Depending on if I keep the current pace or implement a long time skip. So I have used a bit of my creative freedom and in-world things to make up one or two arcs. (Mostly to keep things interesting and the arcs will be linked to something that weakened the forces of good in the future. Though what you will find out in time)
We found gods damned Mithril. Quote Gandalf: On shirt of mithril chain is worth more than the whole Shire and everything in it
Now it probably is not worth quite as much given that this is a quest and some balance is needed still the stuff is fabulously valuable. It was known to exist in pressingly two places before now:
Numenor which was sunk into the ocean by the wrath of God, yes really
Moria, which has a Balrog squatting on it
Given than all our money problems have gotten a lot less dire in the long run I'd say go with Sif for a wife and have an extra hero fit to break heads. There are a lot of heads to be breaking in this age of the world.
Found Multiple Ruins of a Great Fortress and Hold
Khazad Group found
250 Khazad Colony found new options unlocked
Small Vein of Mithril. (80 Units)
Khazad of the Blue Mountains Scattered the only large known groups living in the two great cities of Belegost and Nogrond. Multiple smaller ones scattered about and dwindling away from external and interal issues.
Number of Khazad within the blue mountains at this time: (Not the ones with you at least)
Firebeards: 2500 Dawi in Total
Broadbeams: 4500 Dawi In total
Well this is something we can work with, we should try and help them rebuild Belegost and Nogrond into something good again and have those that live in smaller ones go into the cities

I somewhat doubt dwarfs would be selling Mithril like they would steel, gold or silver
We're talking about the lotr equivelent of Gromril. and to do something like trading it for money would basically heretical to dwarfs. and make the lotr dwarf opinion of us worsen.

Also just a heads up. The quote Thule used is a little wrong for the Khazad population. The numbers there are from my first go around and forgot to change them. There are more of their clan around so they're not as small as it may seem but not too much larger. The 2 blue mountain clans are the group that has suffered the most. (Their holds getting hit all the time)
I think that makes what we do next obvious. We march to their aid, exterminate those that wronged them and remind the dawi of this World what it means to be a dwarf!
So what do you guys think we should research next turn? On the one hand I am tempted by the dwarf book so we can learn more about our neighbors , on the other war is at hand and being able to make say better armor could save a lot of lives.
