Ride the Lightning (Worm / DC Comics Cross Over)

Man, Taylor hasn't even hit the speed of sound yet, wonder what you could even do to stop that kind of speed I mean when the Flash gets going there really isn't much you can do to stop them is there?

Well...

"The speed of sound has nothing to do with "sea level" and sound pressure and without the medium air there is no speed of sound. In SI units with dry air at 20°C (68°F), the speed of sound c is 343 meters per second (m/s). This also equates to 1235 km/h, 767 mph, 1125 feet per second (ft/s), or 666 knots."

So in this case, taking into account how much the speed of sound can vary, she *has* broken the sound barrier.

As far as how to stop her, other than powers and situations which are hard counters to her, the main limiting factor for Taylor is Taylor. If she can't think of an application, or leaves herself open to something, it is going to bite her in the ass. The learner that she is though, very few things should be able to get to her more than once.

The problem with Taylor hittint the spead of sound would be all the broken windows from the sound-wave that should happen, tho considering it's the Flash's powers it might not. *shrugs* Comic book phyics.

Fighter Jet: Sonic Boom

Meteor Hitting Atmosphere: Sonic Boom

Colonel William F. Guile: Sonic Boom (followed by bicycle kick).

Speed Force: I DO WHAT I WANT! (plays Guiles theme, it goes with everything).

Guile Theme Fits All

Nice update. And yeah, if Parian's immediate reaction to Taylor is to go "Empire 88!" and prepare for a fight she definitely needed a less ominous costume.

Some typos I noticed:

You should change upon arrival, and present yourself as a local currier who received the package from unnamed associate." Making this delivery for me will fulfil one quarter of your debt for the costume."

All of this was said in a very dry, business-like manner. After a pause, Parain stood and allowed the formality to bleed out of her body language.

"I have enjoyed working on your costume though, and do hope that we can continue to associate beyond our arraignment."
"courier", "Parian", "arrangement"

"Colin, we are looking at, I believe, a Parahuman who does not teleport, but instead runs. Based on the timestamps involved, it seems Brockton Bay is currently playing host to someone who can seemingly reach at least 800 miles per hour."
As someone who doesn't know a lot of Worm lore is a someone with super speed going that fast an oddity?

Oh yeah. The limitations that shards put on powers (bascially, arbitary restrictions varying from host to host that prevent self-harm as much as possible) prevent some parahumans (especially speedsters) from truly becoming absurdly powerful. That's why a hero like Narwhal, who can pretty much put barriers anywhere within range and in line of sight (on/in people's bodies, protecting living/inanimate objects too) is considered so damned powerful.
Take the case of Velocity, the ENE's resident speedster. He's considered the offensively weakest of the Protectorate, b/c he can't really carry gear while moving fast. I think (though it may be fanon) that his Manton Limit forces him to distribute body mass across multiple pocket dimensions above a certain speed. It's not often that writers find a way to creatively circumvent that. Anderein's El-Ahrairah over on SB features an OP Velocity.
So yeah, the Speed Force is on theTriumvirate's level, according to denizens of Bet.

well if she has the speed force than she is way above the Triumvirate's level by multiple factors. She could make them seem like small unpowered children is she masters it enough.

The Sonic Boom produced when something breaks the sound bearer has more to do with the size and shape of the object traveling that fast than anything else. A person sized object does not produce that much noise when breaking the sound bearer. If you want use guns as an example I'll have to point out that it's not the bullets that are making the noise, the noise is caused by the gunpowder exploding.

Actually, the crack of a supersonic bullet IS quite noticeable. That's one of the reasons people using suppressors (NOT "silencers" dammit... and it's a "magazine" not a "clip" don't make me come over there) will try to get subsonic ammo. (Admittedly, there are some exceptions. Extremely long range sharpshooters will use a suppressor as a way to help control recoil, but they don't really CARE about bullet noise at that point.)

Also, since I've been reading for a bit.... @thecoffeeguru: Neat story! I'm appreciative that you instantly took advantage of the courier aspect of the Flash's power set. Next, get Taylor to work a deal with the hospital....

The ONLY thing I have a question about is Dragon noticing the cell phone pings and traffic cameras. I can see that she might have access to traffic cameras. (I'm sure that, as a member of the Guild and an ally of the PRT, she'd be able to work some sort of agreement to get at their data.) But the cell phones are a civilian thing and accessing their data SHOULD require approval (warrant, willing turn over of data, something), especially in a world with privacy laws that have undoubtedly been stepped up as a result of Tinker/Stranger/Master threats. She shouldn't be able to just "notice" that data. Unless, of course, it wasn't something that she appointed herself to do, but was authorized by the PRT to do... which would neatly step around those pesky wiretap and privacy laws. (That brings a whole raft of problems with a strictly US-based organization authorizing a foreign national to access and monitor domestic communications, but... that gets into a whole area that results in me foaming at the mouth and screaming incoherently at my cats, so we'll ignore it!)

There are many traffic cameras in the U.S. which stream over the Internet. Anyone can log in and view them.

The cellphone pings I thought of as "background noise" that Dragon hears. When something stands out as odd, she will look at what is publicly available and see if she notices something worth looking into.

And the Flash is definitely worth looking in to. Anyone who runs that fast, and (though they don't know it) will get even faster should be investigated.

The investigation will probably lead to Parian soon enough. Should go reasonably, even if this is Worm.

Really ought to have bought Taylor some burners with easily-removable batteries and big "ONLY USE IN [CITY]" labels.

That seems to be a pretty big jump to conclusions from Parian, given that literally all Taylor did was walk in the door.

My thinking was, other than being targetted from time to time, Parian has very little experience in cloak and dagger shenanigans.

Sight. Future Taylor tries to warn Legend! As usual, she proves herself to be far too retarded to give him a fucking handwfitten note.
