This was a mess, but it was still salvagable, buy him time and rally your forces, and you can still likely force them to withdraw.

You didn't come here to die, and you didn't come here to throw your life away. Fall back! Now!

Votes 45

This is your chance! With Valioth wounded, and everyone else too stunned to react, (Or retreating, if Atem's rapid incantations are any indication), you can seize your chance for glory! Put down the wounded Chaos Lord and take your place among the powers of the Sector!

Who even voted for this? 3

Hmm...

I think that'll do, it'd be be hard to overcome a 7 vote deficiency without any shenanagans happening.

Anyway, I normally hate the Rihaku-style of arguing for the losing thing, but this was an important enough choice that I felt obligated to ensure everyone was walking into it with clear eyes.
Generally speaking that sort of argument only makes sure in thread strife increases a lot, unless you argue for ALL the sides equally. The GM's opinion is rather heavily weighted.

Though I don't suppose you're going to make a habit of doing that anyway, so not important.

Sooo, we were sprayed with fire from the entire Black Templar squad but dodged bolt-shells like we're The One?
To be fair, that is quite within our power to do. The look on their faces would even make up for us running away.

Alectai, sir, if this was a D20 we'd have rolled a crit, so please give us this, I beseech you.

[X] You didn't come here to die, and you didn't come here to throw your life away. Fall back! Now! (-5,000 Favor, Retreat immediately, 30% chance of being wounded on the way out)

Just wondering idly, if Vailoth had won here would we have been locked into march of the battalion, or would he have kept doing more and more crazy things until this choice appeared?

While resources are likely to be an issue, avoiding geneseed corrupting habits, like hanging out with daemons, chaos blessings, and sorcery is likely to be important.
Note to self, sorcery is like smoking, don't do it while pregnant with geneseed.
Well, its been 6 years since we gave lillith her, so our second geneseed has been mature for a year now. Time to extract it so we can go back to being awesome with magic.

Sooo, we were sprayed with fire from the entire Black Templar squad but dodged bolt-shells like we're The One?
nah, obviously we dodged bullets like we were the two. not quite as awesome

Operation Stiletto: Part Three
... No, this was stupid, this whole campaign was stupid. What was it even trying to accomplish? The plan wasn't bad, but they should have bugged out once the resistance was heavier than expected.

You weren't a friend of the Last Battallion, and with it about to collapse with the death of its leader...

You turn on your heel and pull back--Atem steps into a roiling portal, and Valioth's Honor Guard charges into the fray.

"GET BACK HERE YOU COWARDS!" He screeches as Siegfreid descends on him, catching the Emperor's Champion with his remaining claw and headbutting the Templar. "I WON'T FORGET ABOUT THIS! I'LL COME BACK FOR YOU!"

He didn't have a chance at winning, but you still needed to survive to escape. Boltgun fire echoed and ricocheted down the corridor--but they couldn't fire on you for long, and what was present was easily deflected by your telekinetics and avoided by your foresight.

You had broken the initial cordon, but you still needed to fall back. Fortunately, you and the rest of the Command Squad had cleared a route...

DANGER

Medea Altheos 2 vs 70, 7 Degrees of Success!
Black Templar Sword Brethren 90 vs 60, 3 Degrees of Failure!
Damage Roll: 37 vs 80, Fatal Blow!

You more slide than turn into the next corridor. "No PIty! No Remor--" The Astartes clad in sable chokes off the rest of his warcry as your staff slides past his guard, catching him in the neck and discharging your Will through it, crushing his throat and scorching his spirit in the same motion. You catch him before he falls, and use his body as a shield, from the gunline down the route you were coming from, dragging it along with you.

Of Course they would have prepared to respond to your retreat. In spite of yourself, you can't help but giggle a little hysterically--you just wanted to spend time in your library! But Nobody would ever leave you be!

First there was Master Altheos wanting you as a pure sacrifice for his ascension, then there was Valioth and his eternal grudge. And now these people! Inflexible Champions of a hateful god!

It just never ended!. There was Always another murderous jerk lying in wait, trying to take advantage of you, or murder you on principle!

You cursed as your meatshield's allies stormed past the corridor, shifting your grip on him as you reached for your sidearm, firing a few shells to convince them to take cover, and ducked down an alternate corridor.

"Brothers! The Heretic is Slain!" A voxcast, publically provided--of course. "Cast the remaining rabble from this fortress!"

And Valioth was dead, which meant that his killers were coming down the other way. This was not a good day!

A bolt rebounded off of one of your pauldrons, well aimed despite the suppression--these were no amateurs, and you were caught between a rock and a hard place, and there wouldn't be a chance to escape anytime soon...

++GET YOUR HEAD DOWN!++ Cobalt's voice echoes through your own company's voxlink, and not one to ignore such requests, you comply--as the back wall of the segment you were trapped in exploded, multiple macrocannon hits overcoming the external armor of the Ramiles--revealing one of the freighters at your back.

Oh, and an open guncutter, with Lilith spooling up the tailgun.

"HI EVERYONE!" She chirps, bracing herself as she fills the corridor with a hail of autocannon fire--enough that even the mighty Black Templars had to get their heads down or die like dogs. "Come on Ma'am!"

"Great timing, how'd you even know where I was though?" You observe, backstepping with your shield in hand until you were aboard the transport. "I'm pretty sure I deviated pretty far from the original plan..."

"Oh, that" Lilith nods as she steps down from the tailgun. "Cobalt tagged you with some kind of tracer thingie, then once we took over the ship, we came to get you once Valioth started screaming curses and accusing everyone of treachery."

"Is that going to be a headache for us?" You ask, shoving the deceased Templar off into one corner while you move to the cockpit of the Cutter, which was moving at full fury to the freighter's closing cargo hold, but Lilith shook her head. "Probably not, the big station started blowing up Strike Cruisers right around that time too--Cobalt did something with this one to hide it a bit, but he said it won't hold up for very long."

"Wonderful" You sigh, the Guncutter docking. "So, it's a complete disaster for everyone involved."

++Could have been worse++ Cobalt's voice buzzed in. ++You've still got your health at least, an... Oh boy++

"Oh boy?" You ask, worried as the exit ramp of your transport opens. "What does that even mean?"

++It means SHUT UP!++ He curses back, the sound of lasbolts audible for a moment before he shifts back to you. ++Okay, the Fleet just Translated in on our escape vector, and we're not hiding from the Citadel if I go on a full corrective burn. We're going to have to do a blind jump and hope for the best++ The warp-shutters begin to seal as you and Lilith break off into a scramble to somewhere a bit deeper into the hull. ++You ladies... Might want to hold onto something, this is going to get ugly real quick++

The freighter groans as the grav-plates strain to compensate for Cobalt's maneuvers--the superstructure shaking and creaking as the Void Shields come up--only to be bashed down in seconds from the oncoming fire, the thin armor plating barely deflecting all but the softest blows--and the internals boiling away under the heat of the lance fire.

++Bloody hell in a fucking handbasket come on....++ Cobalt's voice mutters. ++That'll have to do! Emergency Translation! If there's a breach where you are, get the fuck out of the room!++

You can feel it, a sensation of... Was it disappointment? Hatred? Malice? The Warp was never kind--it was at best crushingly indifferent towards you. But something had changed. Maybe it was your fate? Maybe it was just the whim of the Gods? Or maybe it was surviving something that you should have been killed by.

Either way, it wasn't important right now, all that remained was getting out of this deathtrap.

The ship took one last barrage--shearing off several of the primary thrusters--but had managed to limp its way into the portal.

++And... We're out. Didn't have time to plot something more stable, and we don't have a Navigator. Best be ready for trouble, wherever we turn up.++ Cobalt sounded... Tired? That was new. ++Get up to the bridge, we need to plan our next move before we Translate Out.++

On one hand, Yay we didn't die.

On the other...balls. We're pretty much adrift and without home.

This might be the start of Medea's Warped Journey(it's like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, except grimdark)

...We lost our planet.

No you didn't.

Going to tell you this right now, you haven't lost shit.

It's going to take a while to get back home because blind warp jumps are chaotic in the best of cases (And worse when you're on the edge of the Shrouded Regions), but you'll be back soon enough.

Isn't it good that you set all those balls in motion back home before you left? Why, you should be arriving right around the time you're needed again, and you're up to Common Class!

Everything's gonna be oooookaaaay. We may have lost our planet(for now), but at the same time, we got a warp-capable craft, and only those who can modestly be reasoned with as far as chaos goes are still standing in the sector. As for the imperials, it's doubtful they know where we came from, or where we're going, since we're apparently going to be blind-hopping back to our place, so we even get to stay invisible to them, too!

Hey we did get something out of this:
"Is that going to be a headache for us?" You ask, shoving the deceased Templar off into one corner while you move to the cockpit of the Cutter, which was moving at full fury to the freighter's closing cargo hold, but Lilith shook her head.
What Mark of power armor do the Templar normally use?

We do need a suit for our next Aspirant after all.

QM has said we haven't lost anything.
