Renegade Chapter Master Quest (WH40k Quest)

On a different note, I wonder if we are close enough to the Gothic Sector to interfere with the 12th Black Crusade? Because we have about 27 turns before it happens, and I'd love to be able to steal one of the Blackstone Fortresses for our sector, and screw over Chaos in the process. Probably a bit more ambitious than we can manage, but a goal worth attempting.

Is it okay @Oshha, if whenever we do actions that need rolls to pass or not, on our part, that we get to see them in the result turn as well the writing? Like, if we send a company to, Jotunhiem, when we send them off, we get to see the rolls for how things went down their for them?
After thinking about it, I'm going to say no. There isn't a hard and fast system in place and rolls are made just to give me an idea of how well or bad things went in addition to giving a degree of chance to the outcomes of each mission. Showing you the dice rolls would be confusing as they won't be consistent beyond single digits being bad and nineties being good.
Also @Oshha where specifically are we on the galactic map, it might have been mentioned but I didn't catch it? Cause if you need some help creating external threats for us in the local area then I would be more than happy to regale you with cold, hard lore bites about various barely mentioned threats of wherever and whenever we might be. If you want that of course, nothing wrong with making your own.
I have yet to decide where the Asgardia Sector is on the galactic map. What I have determined is that you aren't near the Tau or Eye of Terror, you are on the fringe of Imperial space and you are in a position to be attacked by a Tyranid Hive Fleet several centuries down the line.
Any chance you'd be willing to add Defence Monitor - Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum to the list?
Super cheap Warp-less system defense ships.
They have to get towed to the systems they will be stationed at.
No. That sort of thing would fall under local system defences not the Chapter Fleet. Space Marines have negative reasons to make defence monitors.

Just saw this and I am going to say no. Even if you were close by, the Storm Avengers have enough trouble on their planet without openly and blatantly attacking the Imperium like and they have absolutely no reason to want a Blackstone Fortress of their own.

Umm, I was talking about getting involved in the Gothic War and stealing one back from Abaddon, not stealing them from the Imperium. But mainly I was just hoping we could get involved with fighting the 12th Black Crusade as a long-term goal, partly since it might make the Imperium less likely to bring the hammer down on us, but mainly because screwing over Chaos plans is always a good thing.

Unless we're gonna publicly leave it somewhere that the imperium will find it, what makes you think that the imperium won't come after us for it.

Ah, I thought you were suggesting stealing one of the Blackstone Fortresses during one of the turns prior to the 12th Black Crusade. Anyway, the Storm Avengers aren't close to the Gothic Sector as I checked the maps and it is too internal to the Imperium to be close to the Asgardia Sector.

Just dont do very big recruiting actions for the upcoming two turns to eke out the spare geneseed we have , well maybe setting up a extra recruiting world or two might make sense while we are doing this but not recruit yet , the midgard recruiting shows that a normal harvest for a civilian world is like 50 people is what i got from the update since 23 or whatever was considered a poor harvest . Or aim for a hive world instead if you want it.

Honestly i wouldnt mind staying about codex strenght but even if this attrition is normal we really should set up a bigger than normal training pipeline to support it. Basicly we follow the codex but we arent adhering to the limit of 1k marines very seriously . And we have like 100 sub sectors to reconquer as the main content of the quest.

Please , i doubt that we can set up a successor chapter ourselves anytime soon , but the 2 companies that left maybe could be used to create another chapter in the imperium hopefully atleast.

So we probably will only hear about it then. Well, maybe it'll go better in the quest than in canon.
How is the Ecclesiarchy in the sector handling things? Do we know if there's anyone acting as a sector or sub-sector authority figure for them?

Local churches are running things on a planetary basis and the Order of the Sacred Storm is running things in the Sif Sub-Sector while the Lord Sector is attempting to get something organised that is answerable to him in the Odin Sub-Sector. There is no sector-level authority and nothing else in the other sub-sectors despite some attempts by planetary figures to spread their reach to other worlds.

@Oshha, how does the chapter cult vary from the primogenitor chapter? Also, what does the chapter's culture look like how much have we changed from the Ultramarine?

I doubt though we have gone to the same extremes as the Mortifactors in terms of chapter cult and culture.

First of all, I don't know what you mean by chapter cult. As for culture, you are still fairly standard for an Ultramarine Successor Chapter. You revere the Emperor and the Primarch and place great emphasis on doing your duty to protect the Asgardia Sector and its loyal Imperial citizens in a way that isn't too dissimilar to what the Ultramarines do with Ultramar.

Edit: You also a Norse theme to your culture rather than a Greek/Roman one like the Ultramarines.

There would be a tiny window to intervene in the Gothic War. Very shortly after it began the entire Gothic Sector was surrounded by warpstorms and had to fight Abbadon alone for 2 decades.

It would not be worth it to get caught in the Warpstorm or stuck inside the Gothic Sector.

Deliberately preparing to go there with the expressed purpose of trying to steal a blackstone fortress sounds very meta gamey for me
It is also not something I am going to allow. There is no reason for the Storm Avengers to go to the Gothic Sector before the warp storms hit and it is entirely possible that they won't hear about the 12th Black Crusade until it has concluded.

I think he meant as in how do they worship the Emperor along with their general spirituality. You know like the Promethean Cult.

Chapter Cult refers to the variations of belief that the chapter holds in regards to the Emperor.
They believe in the usual tenents that the Emperor is divine and it is better to die for him than to live for yourself while Chaos and Xenos are bad and need to be hunted down and killed. Beyond that, they consider their duty as the Angels of Death to protect the mortal Imperial citizens as their Emperor-given enhancements and gifts are to be used in service of protecting the Emperor's people.

Yeah, even if we do manage to steal a Blackstone Fortress, those aren't the kind of things people just ignore. We get one, we put a massive target on our back from everyone: the Imperium, Chaos, maybe even Eldar.

So apparently I am very bad at making jokes, since claiming a Blackstone Fortress would make our Chapter a target for Abbadon's personal attention. We would be toast if we tried that, obviously.
My actual hope was that we might be able to get involved in the Gothic War if we were in the neighborhood of that sector. Then I made a joke about stealing a Blackstone Fortress. But since we aren't close enough, it's a moot point.

Turn 2/005-009.M41
[X] One Hundred-Fifty.

You have a 1st Company again even if it is a shadow of its former self. Unfortunately, solving that issue is a matter of time and its ranks will be refilled as your battle-brothers prove themselves worthy of calling themselves veterans.

Then there is the issue of 1st Company's leadership. Their apothecary survived, but 1st Company lacks a captain, a champion, a chaplain, a librarian and a techmarine. The last three positions are easy enough to fulfil by drawing upon the Chaplaincy, the Librarium and the Armoury, but the matter of the Captain of the 1st and his Company Champion are a more troublesome matter.

Of those that survived at Jotunheim, there are two veteran sergeants amongst their number, one from the Sternguard Squads and the other from the Vanguard Squads. With the latter being more proficient, you promote Veteran Sergeant Grimvard Thunderson to Captain of the 1st, granting him leadership of the meagre number of veterans.

The issue of the Company Champion is still unfilled, but it isn't an urgent one and Grimvard assures you that he will find one once there are more than a mere fifteen battle-brothers in the 1st. As things are, Grimvald is organising his company into three squads of five, two Sternguard Squads and one Vanguard Squad. You also made the judgement to leave Brother Kraki and Brother Holmfast attached to 1st Company as its depleted numbers means that the pair of Dreadnoughts will be most valuable additions.

The matter of warships isn't something easily resolved. The Chapter Fleet has no spare strike cruisers to replace the Spite of Midgardia when 1st Company lost their vessel in the fall of the Ymir Sub-Sector. While replacements are possible, it would mean indebting yourself to Forge World Thor. You don't doubt that the Forge World has plenty of things that you can do to pay off such a debt, but your chapter is stretched thin.

Of course, you will need to indebt yourself to the Mechanicus further to get company fleets for 5th Company and 6th Company. The strike cruisers that should be theirs left with your battle-brothers who chose the Imperium over Asgardia and their absence leaves a gap in the Chapter Fleet that Karl is urging to fill.

Matters of veterans and warships aside, the chapter is still spread thin as always. 3rd Company is bogged down on Galarborn and has already taken heavy losses against the greenskins. Rod is requesting reinforcements if you can spare any.

If that was the only trouble from the Freya Sub-Sector, you would thank the Emperor. As things stands, Stefan has more reports for you as the Master of the Watch.

"A small band of Freebootaz have attacked the Akar system, harassing and raiding the agri world there," says Stefan, "Reports are limited, but it seems to be a single cruiser, a looted Tyrant-class, with between half a dozen and a dozen escorts of Ork origin. Not a major threat in the grand scheme of things, but it is completely beyond Akar's ability to defend against. Their system fleet does not exist and the local PDF is not equipped to rapidly respond to swift raids or orbital bombardment."

"Even with our commitments, we could spare a battle barges to hunt down the Orks," you muse, "The huskarls are more than capable of dealing with Orks without the aid of our brothers, especially if it is a battle barge against a cruiser."

"There is also an issue on Huvatki, another of the agri-worlds in the Freya Sub-Sector," continues Stefan, "Not xenos this time, but trouble from the local populace. Huvatki is one of the democratic worlds in the sector and the newly voted in government is expressing troubling sentiments. They reject the Imperium as a corrupt and greedy empire that cares not for its people."

"Not entirely wrong in my experience," you comment dryly and Stefan chuckles.

"No, the issue is that they consider us to be a part of the oppressive empire in their narrative," says Stefan, "As things stand on Huvatki, they won't be listening to any of our brothers. For now, it is not too much of a concern given Huvatki's lack of importance, but if it begins to spread, it could start to cause trouble for us. That is the last of the primary concerns in the Freya Sub-Sector. Every other item of interest in the Baldur Sub-Sector."

"How much worse is it over there?" you ask.

"None of it is as bad as Galarborn, thank the Emperor for that," replies Stefan, "The dead world of Kjede is beginning to see some business again as interstellar traders are flocking there to open a black market. Normally, it would be beneath our notice except we have unconfirmed reports of xenos and heretics being involved at Kjede's brewing black market. I do not need to tell you how dangerous that has the potential to be."

"No, you do not," you confirm, knowing how even seemingly harmless consorting with foul xenos or filthy traitors can lead to the undoing of loyal Imperial worlds.

"The other concern involves the Mining World Malmur and the Civilised World Sverd or specifically, the invasion of the former by the latter," says Stefan.

"Is there any justified reason for the invasion?" you demand.

"No, the motivation behind the invasion appears to be that the Grand Jarl of Sverd wishes to build a petty empire to rule over," answers the Master of the Watch, letting the disdain that you both feel slip into his voice, "The invasion force consists of several Imperial Guard regiments that were raised for the tithe before the tithe never came thanks to the High Lords. Maldur's PDF is holding out for now, but they are outclassed though not outnumbered by the invasion force. There is also some concern about whether the Malmur people will continue to resist or if they will just submit to the Grand Jarl."

"Not as bad as xenos or heretics, but local nobility taking advantage of the Imperium's absence to pray upon other faith servants of the Emperor is something that should not be tolerated," you comment.

"I agree completely," says Stefan, "I have no doubts that if we do not make an example of the Grand Jarl, we can expect a lot more of the same across the sector in the future."

"Emperor protect us, we do not need that in addition to the external threats," you groan, "Good work, Stefan, you have done well. Now get back to your company. I have no doubt that I will have need of you and the 2nd in the coming days."

Chapter Organisation (Optional)
This is here so you can make Codex-compliant changes to the chapter to suit your preferences. Think things like assigning vehicles or warships to a company or replacing losses in a battle company from a reserve company. Most of this will happen automatically and will be sorted out by me, the QM, but here is the option if anyone wants to do it themselves.

Chapter Suggestions

Stefan Forgeson: "While the Lord Sector is not beyond our chapter's ability to defeat, he has gathered enough forces we would need multiple companies and battle barges. If you want my opinion, Torvald, then I feel that a more diplomatic approach would be preferable as Reximus might be our enemy, but his followers are not. Gathering allies within the rest of the Asgardia Sector will secure our own power base and undercut the Lord Sector. I recommend reaching out to the Order of the Sacred Storm, Forge World Loki and Forge World Odin in addition to continuing to protect the sector at large."

Captain Rod Forgeson: "I need any reinforcement you can spare at Galarborn. My company is doing what we can, but we have already sustained heavy losses. If Warboss Krookchoppa is able to successfully conquer Galarborn, it would give him enough critical mass to start a Waaagh that would threaten the rest of the sub-sector or, more likely, the entirety of the Asgardia Sector."

Karl Voidson: "Given the excellent state of the chapter fleet, it might be frivolous to request this, but I recommend commissioning three new strike cruisers from Forge World Thor to replace the Hate of Midgardia, Rage of Midgardia and Spite of Midgardia. This is to ensure that the new 5th Company and 6th Company will have their own dedicated strike cruiser for interstellar transportation."

Horwan Forgeson: "While we are meeting our current heavy weapon needs, we have no reserves. As the Armoury currently stands, we will be facing shortages again if we suffer more material losses or need to expand our strength. I would also like to remind you that we have no dreadnought chassis in the event that one of our battle-brothers is critically injured."

Steffen Strangeson: "I wish to reiterate my concerns about the psyker situation. We won't be receiving new astropaths from Terra anymore and we may not see any Black Ships arriving to collect the psykers of the sector. While not strictly the concern of the chapter, it is something we must consider due to the long term consequences for the Asgardia Sector."

Points of Interest

Hive World Vanaheim (Odin Sub-Sector): Lord Sector Sigurdr Reximus is the sector governor of the Asgardia Sector. Reximus has gathered the Vanaheim Valkyries and the newly formed Battlefleet Odin to his banner in addition to claiming a victory over the Ork menace at Bountis. He is currently looking to secure his grip on the Odin Sub-Sector and is attempting to secure an alliance with Forge World Odin. Threat Level Extreme.
Civilised World Gunnerheim (Sif Sub-Sector): Beyond being the capital for the Sif Sub-Sector, Gunnerheim is the homeworld for the Order of the Sacred Storm and their holy charge. The Adepta Sororitas are the de facto rulers of Gunnerheim and, to a lesser extent, the rest of the sub-sector. Insular and distrusting, the Order of the Sacred Storm is currently recovering from heavy losses, but it has the potential to be a powerful ally in the future. Threat Level None.
Forge World Loki (Loki Sub-Sector): This Forge World is one of the three Forge Worlds still under Adeptus Mechanicus in the Asgardia Sector. While you don't know what is going on over there, it would be wise to find out as you will need their support for any major production. Threat Level Unknown.
Forge World Odin (Odin Sub-Sector): This Forge World is one of the three Forge Worlds still under Adeptus Mechanicus in the Asgardia Sector. At the moment, they are currently being wooed by the sector governor as the Lord Sector establishes his power base in the newly independent Asgardia Sector. Threat Level Unknown.
Mining World Galarborn (Freya Sub-Sector): The sole mining world in the Freya Sub-Sector Galarborn is currently under attack by a major marauding Ork warband that has spilled over from the Ymir Sub-Sector. 3rd Company along with the Unyielding Defiance are currently engaged with the brewing Ork Waaagh. Captain Rod Forgeson is requesting reinforcements if possible and believes the Warboss Krookchoppa will be a threat to the entire sector if allowed to win at Galarborn. Threat Level Extreme.
Uninhabited World Kjede (Baldur Sub-Sector): Having not seen life since it suffered Exterminatus several centuries ago, Kjede is seeing a recent influx of activity. Taking advantage of the withdrawal of the Imperium, several traders have set up a black market at Kjede, where they have begun to consort and trade with filthy xenos and foul heretics. Threat Level Low.
Agri World Huvatki (Freya Sub-Sector): After seeing 3rd Company get bogged down at Galarborn, the newly voted in local democratic government has decided now is the time to declare independence. Harbouring anti-Imperial sentiments, the local workers have chosen to reject what they call "the chains of a corrupt and greedy empire". Sentiments that you wouldn't necessarily disagree with if it wasn't for the locals considering you and your brothers to be enforcers of said corrupt empire. Threat Level Low.
Mining World Malmur & Civilised World Sverd (Baldur Sub-Sector): The Grand Jarl of Sverd has decided to invade their neighbour Malmur as part of an attempt to forge a petty empire. Stuffing several newly raised Imperial Guard regiments that would have been part of their tithe to Holy Terra into transports, the Grand Jarl has sent them to conquer Malmur in his name. Threat Level Medium.
Agri World Akar (Freya Sub-Sector): Ork Freebootaz have begun to raid and harass the Agri World of Akar. Operating out of a looted Tyrant-class Cruiser, the greenskins have started to periodically raid random settlements and farms across the surface, looting what they can before running back to the void. Threat Level Low.
The Titan War (Asgardia Sector): The two biggest threats to the Asgardia Sector, Waaagh! Stormsmasha and the Steel Hunger are currently at war after the greenskins stole an Emperor Titan from the heretics. The war seems to be in full swing and barring any major upsets, it can be expected to last at least until the end of the decade if not longer. Threat Level Low.
Battlefleet Asgardia (Asgardia Sector): In exchange for new warships, Admiral Roza Mordanne has agreed to pledge Battlefleet Asgardia to aiding Forge World Thor for the next decade and a half. Under the terms of the agreement, it can be expected that by the time that the Sentinel of Asgardia is no longer seconded to Battlefleet Asgardia, the fleet will have acquired three new Lunar-class Cruisers, two new Dauntless-class Light Cruisers and sixteen new Sword-class Frigates. Threat Level None.

Here is the second turn of the quest. Not as many things on fire as the first time, but still far from quiet. Also other factions within the sector are taking action and they will do things independent of you as you saw with Reximus going after Bountis or the Order of the Sacred Storm going to Gunnerkrieg or Battlefleet Asgardia working for the Mechanicus in exchange for new warships.

Other than that, I think you have an idea of how to do things now. I have doled out some of the spare equipment to some of the companies to fill out shortages in addition to assigning the newly promoted scouts to fill out empty ranks. 3rd Company has not received any replacements because it is still at Galarborn and has not had the chance to return to Midgardia to receive new equipment and recruits.

Please point out any spelling or grammar mistakes that you spot. Please quote them in the thread and explain what you think is wrong so I know what you are referring to.

Thinking we should deploy reinforcements against the Orks, the absolute last thing we need is to have to deal with a full blown Waaaaagh!

Beyond that maybe burn that favour with the forge world to either replace those strike cruisers or fill out our armoury with better gear.
