Putting the Craft in Warcraft

[x] Alchemy

Hey, here's a thought: Maybe we could craft Fel blades that absorb Fel magic from the user. It would make the blade more and more powerful, but purify the userat the same time.

Not sure if that would work. Fel magic tries to corrupt and destroy everything else, and by purifying the user we might as well be taking away their fel immunity/resistance.

Something we should do at one point is completly purify a demon-forged weapon (those exceptionally well made weapons) and then even go further by attuning it to the light. Let's see if we can make some of the metal Ashbringer was made off.

How about we make it so the sword pulls fel magic and replaces with other magic so the fel magic attacks the opponent while the ambient and opponents magic empower and heal the user
basically replaces the user's fel magic with other magic, while harming the opponent with the felmagic
edit: i also had thought on how this will bond the user and weapon togethor, and how this can be classified as antimagic due to using the opponents own magic, and when we are free we can make a blade that pulls the user magic into the sword then returns, basically simultaneously strengthening the users magic and bonding with sword so magic swordsman/knight.

I don't think that sort of thing works unless you have a powerful stored charge of energy in the weapon that basically discharges into the wielder like Frostmourne scale.

Let`s not make the orks even more powerful. As far as I`m concerned, we are here to learn everything that we can and be as passive aggressive while doing it as we can get away with.

There's a reason I didn't want engineering to win. Do you know the kind of stuff we could invent inverse due to modern knowledge?
Yeah, better not to go down that path, at least not yet. When we are free I would jump all over engineering in a heartbeat. It`s going to be bad enough as it is, trying to find new and creative ways to avoid giving the orks even more power...:(

Glimmer
[X] Alchemy

You want to say the past two months have been idealic. Perhaps they might have been in a different circumstance. Guivzi is very good at her job, putting you through half a dozen exercises and pushing you to your limit physically. Supplimented by the alchemical potions that she's using, and the strange contraptions that she pushes you into, you are at your full strength in a month.

The fact that you are a prisoner makes all of this bittersweet. Mr Dampgear checks in on you often to make certain that his daughter is doing her job. In between that, you catch loud bellows of Orcs, and even louder smashing sounds as Grim Batol is remodeled. You are isolated in a room far away from the action, so you can't tell what's going on, but the sounds make it clear that there is a lot of something happening.

In between physical sessions, Guivzi puts you through Alchemy lessons.

"Now, normally Goblins just throw a few things together and hope it works." The girl drawls out as she holds up a glass vial. "It's not that big a deal in engeneering. At worst the thing will blow up in your face. Alchemy though, that gets costly as the ingredients are ruined and can't be recycled. So the better alchemists work the long and careful way. That's what I'm teaching you."

The goblin girl sets down the vial and gestures to the rest of the small alchemist set. You see half a dozen beakers and strangely colored liquids on it.

"This is a slow, painstaking process. You don't do shortcuts here. Since you are a blacksmith, we are going to work on the basic material refinement first. Then we can move onto the basic potions." She gestures to a few potions here and there.

"Sounds all right." You drawl out. Not as if you had much a choice really.

"I'll get into stimulants too, and physical boosters." Guivzi pauses here. "I'm going to warn you now, and pound it into your head if I have to later. Do not overdose. Take at most one potion every three days. What I'm teaching you is the concentrated stuff. The stuff that lasts awhile. The best effect you can hope for if you overdose is spending the rest of the day on the toilet praying to the light for the pain to stop."

You look at the potions at the set again. "Really?"

Guivzi looks at you flatly. "Had an idiot steal two of my healing potions once. He downed them both, and then was surprised when his gut ballooned out as something went wrong inside. The healing part of the potions kept him alive, but he couldn't move for the rest of the month."

You can't help it, you chuckle at the thought.

"Oh, you think it's funny, but he hated it. Especially when I gagged him and used him as a foot rest for my customers." The Goblin smiles at the thought.

You chuckle again.

The lessons are enjoyable to be honest. Your teacher is very strict and thorough as she goes over the processes, and is very careful that you have all the necessary grounding and understanding of the trade. You aren't going to be a master right off, but you are going to be proficient. Alchemy is a very time gated profession though, so nothing happens fast in it. You do get a good idea of what is and isn't possible, and even have a few things that will make life easier for you.

But all good things come to an end. All too soon the two months of recovery that you were allowed ends. And you are going to be starting to 'work' for Mr Dampgear.

It's the first time you leave your room in months really. You are almost happy about that. Then you are brought down to the forges.

The heat is hellish. You see liquid metal pouring from a large cruicible and down into molds in front of several Orcish blacksmiths, and hear shouting and bellowing as they slam oversized hammers into crude weapons. Here and there you see green fires lighting up, and even more Orcs almost throwing the axe blades into those. It's utter chaos, and as you watch, one of them is showered in sparks. That would be enough to severely burn a human. Against her, it simply makes her snarl.

You blink a few times as that registers, and your eye darts around. Mostly female Orcs here. One or two males, but they are rare. And these Orcs make Garona look waifish.

"Really something ain't it?" Mr Dampgear smiles cheerily. "You won't be working here while I have you. So be glad for that."

You look around again, and swallow. You would lose more than your eye already if you were to go here. Quite possibly your sanity if those green fires were what you think they were.

Past the main forge, there is another room. A massive one with chains bolted to the ground, and straw everywhere. Your best thought is that it's for a massive beast, but you don't know what could be large enough to fill those chains you see.

"Don't know what this is for." Mr Dampgear laughs as he talks. "The Orcs have been working double time to get it setup right. Only room big enough for whatever it is. Unfortunately you gotta walk past it to get to your place, so keep an eye on the chain length all right?"

You eye the chains again and evaluate the distance. They are pretty short thankfully. So unless you go halfway across the room, you should be fine.

Past that room you are lead into a far quieter room. There is a forge of course, but it's almost serene compared to the rest of the place. A very familiar set of tools are there, and you see a thorium anvil bolted to the ground nearby. A table for storage, and even some alchemical equipment. You see bins of resources. Copper, tin, some gold, iron, and even mithril and thorium. Enchanting materials setup neatly in the corner, and a coal bin as well.

"You need grunts, I can get you grunts. You need more stuff, I can get you it. This isn't going to be a bad gig." Mr Dampgear gestures to the room. "I don't even insist you make something that will revolutionize the Horde's war machine. Just make something really flashy, and we are golden."

"Something flashy?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Something that would make those orcs back there take you seriously." Mr Dampgear gestures back. "Listen, I know your humans get picky about your nation and all that. But with Stormwind down, the Horde is winding up. Work with me and give me something good, and we both keep our heads. We need a bit of glimmer to show you are 'cowed' into making things, then we can stretch out the next project. So sketch out something, and let me know what you need."

So im thinking a blademaster sword with some seriously flashy lightning enchantments.

Alternatively a piece of plate armor sized for an orc.

What about steel plate with a lightning enchantment... If what we learned from Lothar is any indication it does jack all, but might just look, "flashy."

@Lost Star So how badly affected is our smithing skills due to the loss of one of our eyes?
Not really. As much as it screws with Wayland's depth perception, close up he doesn't have many issues. Half the stuff he does is stuff he could do blindfolded, and the rest of it needs visual checking IE is this the right color.

Ask him to try to fight though, and he would stumble over his feet.

If that sounds weird, this is WoW. I only have to pay lipservice to reality.

Solid Steel Zweihander ala what we found that lights itself on fire with Shamanistic Fire

Considering the normal weapons are worse than that we're not making things worse and more to the point it can bring more attention to us for Ogrim since I doubt there's any orcs that still has the skill and knowledge to do so.

Yeah, let's do something shamanistic. It's good research into elemental smithing, and it will get the attention of orcs unhappy with the whole serve-the-burning-legion-in-exchange-for-fel-power deal, especially since they mostly want to go back to their old shamanistic ways.
