"Oh… Right…" It's that late already then? You were just getting into the best parts where you can actually win instead of failing miserably!

But Ami is not the sort of person who would lie to get away from people. As disappointing as it is to admit, it seems you're going to have to go your separate ways for the day. So you nod slowly at your old friend, easing your hug on Kishi only enough to be able to look her in the eyes.

"Still, I hope you had fun with us! And we're still on for Sunday, Ami? Right?" you continue a bit more enthusiastically. It's not like she would be away forever from your company, even if sometimes it feels like time passes agonizingly slow for you.

"Naturally! Just tell me when you're up and ready!" Ami says and sweeps her gaze across your entire group of friends. "It's also good to see that Tamimoe has made such good friends."

...On one hand, she should not call you that and you really, really want to tell her as much. On the other hand, you don't think you could do that very well without letting go of Kishi and Fluffy. And ultimately, hugs trump anti-moe warfare, so you settle on grumbling about the moniker under your breath, while hugging Kishi tighter.

"Heh, likewise! It's good to meet some nice new friends," Evelyn notes with an ear-splitting grin on her lips.

Ariane nods animatedly to the words, and picks up from where Evelyn left nigh immediately. "Yeah! Will you hang out with us again some time?"

"Absolutely! I think that would be just lovely,"
Ami exclaims and claps her hands together in delight. "Just tell Tamimoe to give me a call, alright?"

"Mhmm,"
Evelyn hums with quick nod. Curiously, it seems like some sort of twinkle has entered her eyes. "I suppose this means that I can now call you mon Amie?"

You cringe at the way Evelyn goes out to put weight on her little pun. "That... was just forced."

"Hey, I thought it was a good one!"
Evelyn protests. "It practically wrote itself."

Ami on her part just giggles at the words. "Heh, I thought it was a really good one, I admit," she says and shakes her head. "But I'll be in touch. Bye!" With that, the girl waves at you, picks up her crutches, and turns around to leave to the choir of 'Bye!'s from you and your friends.

She's going to have interesting times explaining her sudden recovery to her parents, you'd warrant.

"But say, do we continue, or-?"

"We go again, of course!"
Ariane yells over Evelyn, "This is so much fun, even if the songs are too short!"

"Yeah, another round would be fun!"
you chirp in with a nod, while your grip on Kishi loosens enough for the girl to nearly fall over from the surprise and lack of support. "Although…"

You look over at the red blob that is Kishi, and the more bemused Mariko. "You didn't get to go yet, right? Kishi, Mariko?" you ask the pair and give Fluffy an affirmative squeeze to let out the precious squeak. "I think you should try too! Come on, I'll cheer you on with Fluffy!"

"Huh, I guess I'll be making room for you two then," E
velyn continues, and steps down from the stage. "You'll be playing this round, right Ariane?"

The girl nods enthusiastically.

"Alright, the stage is yours!"

With no avenue for escape present, the still blushing Kishi nods, mumbles something, and wobbles to the stage with a terrified Mariko close on her heels. While they both seem to have their own little problems setting their game up, neither one seems to have too much obvious trouble playing once they get onto it.

And so you, Evelyn, and Fluffy cheer on them as they go, all three spinning and stepping wildly to the upbeat song. While you can't help but to notice how a few times Mariko seems to hesitate and lose points for that, your attention is more focused on Kishi, and how utterly she is creaming both you and Evelyn.

So when the song finally ends, you are forced to stare at the night perfect score Kishi got. The girl looks quite bashful as you congratulate everyone for their scores. Ariane and Mariko too did extremely well this round, with the former nearly rivaling your score this time.

The five of you end up playing a few more rounds before leaving, the more active nature of DDR making it easy to lose your track of time while you dance it out. In the end, you're no longer even sure which one of you scored the best overall. But what you do agree on, is that it's probably enough for the day.

And so you find yourself once more in the backseat of the car while the aide drives you to the mall to the ice scream shop you suggested. Fluffy remains firmly between your arms while you talk with your friends...

"Aah, these arcades are so much fun!" Ariane announces from her seat, still holding tight onto her dolphin plush. "We really need to go there again later!"

"Well, you certainly seem to be on high spirits about it,"
Evelyn notes from the front seat. "Not that I don't agree, the arcade is a great place to hang out every now and then."

"Heh, I'm happy to hear that you liked it so much,"
you say, flashing the girl a warm smile before taking a quick look at the other girls inside the car. "Everyone had fun, right?"

"Y-yeah, the place isn't that bad,"
Kishi admits from next to you, shuffling a bit to fix her posture.

"Huh? Oh, right… The arcade's not that bad a place if you have time to spend," Mariko says, snapping out of her trance-like state and breaking her gaze away from the walkways. She has pressed herself against the door in her window seat, and has been somewhat uncomfortable the entire ride.

It's probably the car.

"Well, that's putting it mildly there," Evelyn jokingly protests. "I mean, if they had an arcade club in school, I'd join that in an instant!"

"I can believe that,"
you mutter and shake your head. "But speaking of clubs, I'd honestly like to take a look at the different sword fighting clubs after school next week. I mean, I was planning do that anyways… probably… but Hana kind of reminded me about it."

"Well, good luck with that! I might join you up on that if only to get some sort of hobby here… But that actually reminds me! Mariko, are you part of any interesting club I could join?"

This time the raven-haired girl seems to be utterly taken aback by the prodding. "Uh, come again?"

"I asked if you were part of any club back in school?"

Mariko mumbles something incoherent, and sharply turns to look out of the window again. Her cheeks have suddenly gained a faint red tinge on them.

"Sorry, but I couldn't hear any of that!"

"I… I said I'm part of the science club,"
Mariko huffs, already sounding almost nervous about admitting it. You don't really get the reason she would be embarrassed about that. Science is a perfectly respectable club

"Oh! What do you there then?" Evelyn asks.

"...Science."

Well, that's certainly helpful!

"S-she's also a frequent the school's manga club," Kishi suddenly butts in almost matter-of-factly, and shakes her head. "S-sorry, but it was bound to come out eventually."

Mariko seems to disagree with that assessment, as her eyes momentarily widen before she practically curls up into her corner to hide her face and blatantly mortified expression.

"Wow, never would have guessed with you," Evelyn notes with an impressed whistle early turning completely around on her seat. "I kind of thought you'd be in one sports club or another.

You on the other hand decide to take some pity to your pseudo-friend, and save her from the grilling for now. While you're admittedly curious, you can do that once she has calmed down a bit first. "It's pretty cool, though, don't you think?" you suggest. "But that does remind me… Everyone still remember our plans for the Mitakihara trip? Any places you have realized you want to visit?"

"Oh, I actually found an awesome place to see the entire city! We just need to…"

The talks about tomorrow's trip go on for the rest of the rather short drive with those of you in it, trying to figure out where to fit the few new suggestions. Mariko doesn't seem to have anything to say about that, partly because she's not privy to your plans, and partly because she's busy enjoying her corner.

Though eventually you arrive to the mall, and make your way to the familiar ice cream bar there. This time it's a bit more difficult to find yourself a free table in the crowd of people getting out of school and work. Fortunately, a minute's search nets you a table with four seats, while you borrow the fifth one from a neighboring table.

All of you make your orders, aside from Mariko who cites lack of cash on hand for a reason. Ariane seems to have none of it, though, and stubbornly insists on paying for the girl's portion despite the protests. It takes a moment for the ice cream to arrive, but you're not left disappointed by the size of the great bowls.

Closing votes here. Also:

Kimiko will get her fair amount of screen time when the Tokyo arc comes rolling around (next week in-quest) and, depending on your actions, during later events. Also, do note that Kimiko is not exactly a casual subject for Tamiko.

Before you start digging into your portion, you adjust Fluffy's position on your lap to avoid accidentally messing him with your ice cream. While you get an idea to try feeding him too, you dismiss the idea nigh immediately. Fluffy's adorable and fluffy, but still inanimate. You'd only make a mess. You'll just have to enjoy the taste of strawberry ice cream on your own!

Your friends too dig into their portions with varying levels of enthusiasm. Even Mariko seems to have realized that resistance in the face of smiles and sunshine is futile, and is begrudgingly eating her bowl of chocolate. You think she took the same flavor as Ariane as some sort of panic move, even if the latter's bowl is a good two sizes larger.

Although, it would probably be rude to ask.

So instead, you decide to strike up a conversation with your friends through another topic that's on your mind. "So, uh… Everyone? What did you think of Ami?" you ask between your rather modest spoonfuls. You now know better than to get a brain freeze, thank you very much!

"Hmm, she seemed nice enough to me," Evelyn says, leaning on the back of her chair and biting the spoon now hanging from her mouth. She seems to be thinking about something with they way her eyes travel to the roof. However, she doesn't get to say anything as Ariane quickly cuts her off.

"Yeah, I agree! Ami wasn't bad," she says with very animated nodding in between her rapid gobbling of ice cream. Her stuffed dolphin is laid neatly on her lap too, with its dorsal fin barely above the table. "I didn't expect to run into her like this, though. It was such a weird coincidence!"

"I-it's a small world,"
Kishi observes before shaking her head. "I-I would have never guessed you two were friends, though."

You offer Kishi a slight smile. "It's okay, I was pretty surprised to meet her again too after all this time." Not to mention the way you're actually rebuilding the old bridges. The upcoming weekend would be an interesting one on so many levels! "But what about you Mariko? How was Ami in your opinion?"

The girl seems somewhat startled by your question and momentarily stops her already slow eating. "Um… W-well, she was nice?" she offers weakly, clearly not too sure if she's actually allowed to have an opinion on this when she's still more akin to someone that's only dragged around by everyone.

"Well, yeah, Ami is very easy to get along with!" Aside from her overbearing tendency to mislabel you with slanderous nicknames! "But I was wondering if we could get her to be even more comfortable around us?" All of your friends in one place is much better than said friends in two groups!

"I don't think that really needs much effort," Evelyn says, finally setting down her spoon into her ice cream portion.

"Huh, what do you mean?"

"Well, I didn't really find it that difficult to get along with her,"
she continues. "And I don't think anyone is going to disagree with that." Evelyn gives everyone else a quick look, and receives affirmative nods back from them. "Don't stress too about it, Tamiko. If Ami wants to hang out in the future, she'll grow more comfortable without the need to aid it along much."

Well, she has a point, even if faster is better. So you nod slowly at her, accepting the advice.

"Although, I get the impression that you two go way back. How did you two even meet?"

"Ahhh... I don't actually even remember that far,"
you admit with a sheepish grin. "We've been friends as long as I can remember! Me, Ami, Yuujin and Matsuko. Well, at least until some time ago, but… Well..."
Aren't you forgetting someone?

"Huh, what happened between you?" Ariane asks you, sounding quite concerned

From the corners of your eyes, you can see Kishi and Evelyn tense and exchange looks with each other. They both turn to look at you in concern, that you brush off with a light, if somewhat forced smile. You're not in that bad a shape anymore, you've already cried more than enough today.

"It's a long story," you begin slowly. "This is not the right place for that, though, but I promise I'll tell you later." A public cafe is not a good place for sharing that kind of burden with your friends.

The concern on Ariane's face doesn't fade a single bit, but she seems to accept your decision not to tell yet, and leaves it be for now.

"Now, we used to do a lot of stupid things. Stupid, but fun! For example, there was that time we got our hands on a load of tomatoes, and…"

And so it goes as you tell them of a select few fond memories you have of your old friends while you eat through your ice cream. It's been awhile since you've reminisced about those times, however, and there isn't too much to tell yet and you constantly need to stop to add some sort of fact or an info tidbit that springs to your mind.

Evelyn and Ariane follow your tales with obvious interest and mirth. The stupidity of a bunch of pre-teens running wild gives them a lot to laugh and cheer you over. Kishi too seems to enjoy your stories, though she carries herself a bit more neutrally. Mariko on her part is obviously listening, and you swear you can see her smile lightly a few times.

Eventually all of you are forced to become aware of the clock running late and your bowls becoming devoid of any actual ice cream. With nothing else to do at the cafe, you all decide to go somewhere else to spend the evening together. It doesn't take too long to pick the destination either after you bring it up.

"Actually, Mariko, do you know about the abandoned amusement park in the Northern side of the city?" you ask out after the suggestion is raised by Kishi.

"Uh, y-yes? I don't live very far from there..."

"Ooh, are we going to practice magic?"
Ariane asks with her her eyes sparkling.

"I-it would be a very good idea. A-Ariane and M-Mariko haven't even seen each other's abilities yet..."

Evelyn is the only one who doesn't seem exactly enthusiastic about the idea even if she doesn't raise a fuss about it. To your surprise, Mariko seems actually happy about the suggestion of practicing magic together, even if she tries to act nonchalant about it.

So with that agreed on by a simple majority, you leave the mall and head towards your designated training grounds. Ariane's aide doesn't seem too thrilled about the thought of letting her go there, but she seems to be under order to allow that no matter her personal opinion.

It doesn't take long for you to reach the fence, transform, and hop over it. Though she is a bit grumpy about it, you also carry Evelyn over it on your back. The grounds are utterly empty aside from your group, just as expected. It is starting to get somewhat late as the Sun is slowly starting to set in the horizon.

While Evelyn flops on the bench nearest to you to wait, the rest of you are ready to go.

What do you do?

Kimiko we didn't forget you. ;_;

I just don't know how to have Tamiko talk to you without fucking everything up.

Like seriously. Now that we know the curse is a thing, is that something Tamiko would really keep from her sister?

... yes. IC, Kimiko doesn't know about all this stuff Tamiko did, so she wouldn't reveal it over the phone. Maybe she'd go in-person with her Uncle to do the reveal, but then we run into the OOC knowledge, that what Kimiko did and why prevents their reunion from being anything but a Bad Time, and quite possibly a Grief Spiral. You have to ask yourself... is this really something that'll help Tamiko in the long run?

I say, get Tamiko a large support net, of both old and new friends, before taking that plunge.

:/ I mean, yeah I get why we wouldn't want to do it but the IC reasoning still feels pretty flimsy IMHO.

Edit: Bottom line I just don't really want to ignore Kimiko until the tokyo trip but im racking my head on how to have a conversation with her without Kimiko spiraling atleast a city away.

[x] Showcase Ariane and Mariko's abilities to each other. For the more expensive techniques, just give a description.
[x] Suggest maybe we should continue to work on things your uncle and Miss Cathy suggested? Actually Mariko might want to talk to them too sometime? They may have some good idea's for her to try out.
[x] As for yourself... you have some potential problems you may need to work out.
-[x] See if you can form another saber. Just incase you lose yours.
--[x] If that fails see if you can form a sword with shield energy.
---[x] Test it out if successful.
--[x] Actually on that note, your sword doesn't feel as sharp without the white glow. Maybe you can sharpen your saber with shield energy? Or maybe even lengthen it?

[x] And what about your shield? Can you form another one? Is there magic you can use without it?

[x] Kishi can work on improving her telekinetic use of her guns? Once she's comfortable with x number of guns, start adding more.

[x] Ariane can work on her levitation(flight?) as well as gaining more control of the flambard's she can levitate.

[x] How much control does Mariko have with her barriers? Once they're formed, can she move them remotely?
-[x] Off hand, she can probably use her barriers as viable platforms to jump off of or use if the terrain is too dangerous to walk on.
-[x] Once formed, you know she can expand her barriers but can she compress them?
-[x] How about manipulating her barriers into viable binds? Or contraptions that hinder mobility?
