You decide to let Evelyn be for now, making a mental note to explain things later. It would be rude to leave the new girl, Hana, hanging now that you've actually gone and started a conversation with her. Bad idea or no, you can't really go back on this anymore.

"J-just call me Tamiko!" you declare with a quick nod and sit down on the desk in front of Hana. It' much easier to talk when you don't have to worry about your legs giving in under you from the nervousness. "No need to be so formal with me."

"Very well then, miss Tamiko, I'll keep that in mind,"
the girl says with an acceptive smile, "Ah, would you mind me asking, which class are you from? I cannot recall us having met before."

Uhh… "I-I'm… well…"

"Tamiko is from this very class. Didn't you know?"
Evelyn interjects on your behalf, a playful, if a bit shaky smile on her face. She appears to have slipped her hand away from yours when you weren't looking too. And though she does shoot you some strange sideways glances, she seems to have decided to not press the questions on her mind yet.

"Really now? This is quite embarrassing," Hana says, looking somewhat apologetic, "I'm supposed to be our class representative in the Student Council, yet I can't even remember all of my classmates."

"It's fine, that happens to all of us,"
you say, while trying to come up with a less painful topic. You need to play it cool, though, you only have one shot. You mustn't screw it up by asking something awkward and unrelated- "S-so… How's life and school these days?" -damn it!

"I don't think I have any reason to complain. I like to think I do at least decently well here, and I haven't run into any big problems elsewhere," Hana answers you, nonplussed by the sudden question, "Well, other than the usual stress that comes with everything that needs to be done."

"Huh, what do you mean by that?"

"Hana is the chief editor to the school newspaper in addition to being part of the school council,"
Evelyn answers, beating Hana to it.

...You didn't even know you had one of those, though.

"Correct, miss Girard. We have also moved to a weekly publication with new numbers available every Monday," Hana picks up from Evelyn, nearly making it sound like an accomplishment she is quite proud of, "If you haven't done that yet, I recommend trying it out."

"I-I'll try it out when I get the chance,"
you answer her. Chances are you've forgotten about it by lunch. But if you happen to find a copy, then you don't see any reason not to read it, "But I suppose it must be stressful to do all of that. My school life is pretty dull in comparison, with no clubs or anything to worry about."

"You aren't part of a club, miss Tamiko?"
Hana asks you, looking quite perplexed, "Our school has one of the largest selection in the country. Surely you aren't telling me nothing has caught your eye?"

You sigh, "Trust me, you're not the first one to tell me to join one." And now that you think about it, you should probably get around to find that Swords club. Lunch project perhaps? "I'm working on it, though, don't worry."

"If you insist, miss Tamiko."

"Right! But uh, do you have any other hobbies outside of school?"
you ask the girl, eager to move to another topic, "I mean, I haven't picked up a club yet partly because I want to spend the time hanging out with my friends, like Evelyn."

"I'm afraid school projects eat most of my time,"
Hana says, "I don't have the time to do much else besides that."

Ouch, that doesn't sound too pleasant… "Oh, I see." But if she enjoys it, then who are you to judge? "Do you then enjoy any of the school subjects? I'm okay with most of them myself, but geography is my favorite! I like how we get to know faraway places in the world!" And people too for that matter.

"That's not a bad choice, miss Tamiko," Hana acknowledges, "I don't have any particular preferences. But if I were forced to pick one, I suppose my choice would be English."

"Huh, that's neat!"
say with a happy smile. Technically speaking, while your main interests are elsewhere, languages are actually your strongest subject by far.

However, with your thoughts momentarily turned away from the conversation, your eyes travel across the clock on the wall and the masses of people flowing into the room. Time has flown by, it seems, and you don't think you have long before the teacher arrives.

What do you do?

===

Surprisingly non-awkward conversation all things considered.

Also, I've done some work on the character sheets. You should now find Haruna and co. under the 'Tokyo' tab (which will expand greatly when we get there in-quest), while Hana is in 'Others'. I also made some additions to Ami based on recent events, but nothing major.
