Still, what does everyone think about telling our Uncle about the MG business after this? I think we should get around to doing it before anything else major pops up, personally.

I'm against it personally, because our uncle is very overprotective, and is unlikely to be accepting of us going out and fighting monsters for a living. At this point, we simply don't know enough about being a MG to explain why not fighting witches is a death sentence due to grief buildup, so there's certain to be conflict. I'd prefer to wait until we are more experienced and better informed to tell him.

Since this is not a particularly time-constrained moment...
Tamiko grief: 217/2000

Tamiko seeds:
Amanda 2290/3000
Lilibeth 1565/2000

Also, a slight note from QM: you might seriously want to start hunting more actively to stock up on grief seeds. Taking a look at your history, the only active hunt you have done so far led you to Danah. The rest were found on accident, albeit often when touring around the city on other business.

Although, I suppose you could make some Meguca groups jealous with that kind of track record of finding witches :V? Not many have such easy time after all.

But muh social.

More seriously, witches in your quest are pretty brutal. We've taken some serious injuries fighting the easy ones. Granted one was due to stupid mistakes on our end and the other was a natural dice ****ing but that pretty much puts a major damper on mass hunting. We shouldn't be taking these kind of injuries fighting a run of the mill witch. Between trauma and healing, it's really expensive to deal with.

I'm not actually against the idea as such, but it's something we want to be careful with.

As for witches, yeah, the're rough in this quest. As such, hunting feels less like ... er ... going to the shops for some supplies and more like volunteering for a suicide mission as if you manage to survive, you'll get extra pa to afford your necessities and if you die, you won't need to be paid anyway.

What do you mean we don't know enough about it yet? We know that it will kill us (which is technically true if you consider that witches aren't really the MGs anymore). So, telling him, "We need to hunt witches to stop them from hurting people, but also because if we don't get grief seeds, they we will eventually die when our soul gems turn black."

Edit: Plus, Ariane's dad took it rather well despite being obviously protective of her. Let's give our uncle that chance.

Do we? I thought we just thought it meant no magic. Do you have a quote on that? Honestly confused here.

I admittedly don't have a quote for you, but why would we be so incredibly desperate to get Kishi a grief seed when her gem was almost black? We haven't really been treating the corruption issue like a matter of magic or not, but as life or death.

@DrZiztah Do we know that we die if our gems go black?

You set the Gem in front of you on the table and bring out the nigh filled grief see you still have in your pocket. "S-see that black substance? I-it's,well... waste from using magic called grief. Using a grief seed like this cleanses it away. T-this is important because if the Gem goes completely black, the backlash can... be fatal."
Hah! Got a quote.

Social is God! Maybe that could be a group spirit exercise :V?

Thanks, sounds like I have succeeded in something! Okay... more seriously, I decided check the statement and here's a rough rundown of the weaker witches of this quest:

43: Danah
This one was fought before the scaling down of the witch difficulty, and you did indeed sustain pretty serious injuries for your trouble making this the closest verification to the statement. However, you were still rookies at that point and had not yet unlocked your newer protective abilities, especially force bubble.

38: Irma
Your first witch, which on the second try didn't really do much to you due to Kishi neutralizing its attacks. The first try... eh, I prefer not to talk about my first days as a QM ...

37: Elmina
Your only witch post the scaling down of difficulty levels. The witch did put some occasional fight due to dice (and Ariane rolled double nat 1s), but was rather easily put down in the end. The needles were somewhat annoying, but couldn't really deal any actual lasting damage to you by design. Now the re-hatched version is another story, and was purposely boosted to hell and back. That is to say: don't mess around with re-hatching.

8: Lilibeth
That thing had no real way of damaging you, and I will maintain that this fuck-up was all on stupid decisions rather than anything inherent to the witch .

The thing is, you haven't fought much against witches after the difficulty scaling down, which should have made hunting easier. The only example so far is Elmina, who went down pretty easily all things considered. Now her re-hatched version was created to be terrifying from the get-go, and can't be considered an easy witch under any circumstances, but you did end up with actual but slight net gain from that.

In addition, your current abilities have made clear progression over time, especially on protective abilities that can and will save you grief from healing even if used regularly. Those are abilities that have also been in use for a grand total of two witches. I don't know if you have realized it yet, but Force Shield and especially Bubble do amazing things to your ability to fuck up witches' days if used properly. In addition, witch abilities don't really increase with time, unlike yours.

@Impstar
Using your magic accumulates a substance called grief into it. If your gem gets completely filled up, the consequences can be fatal.
The benefit to the girl comes in the form of grief seed dropped by a dead witch which allows you to refill your magic in the Soul Gem. This is also important, because overloaded Soul Gem can bleed over to yourself.
As said by Coobs to Tamiko.

Eh, good enough. I think we have enough ammunition to convince our uncle that we need to keep hunting witches. With him on our side, we're better equipped to deal with injuries without having to hide them (or having to hide how fast they heal), and frankly, we could use the support of a responsible adult. Other than Ariane's dad.

Thanks. So if we tell uncle he can't stop us from fighting, that's one major concern I had. I'm still not certain it's a good idea, but it isn't a terrible one.

It's just that this is as good a chance as any to tell him without any baggage in the immediate way. He's a good guy who honestly cares about us. Let's let him in to some of our secrets. Even Ariane's dad recommended we let him in.

Chapter 2 - Court 3
[X] Make good of your promise to contact Ami and check how she is doing.

You sigh and rise up from your seat. You are not going to achieve anything by just sitting around and watching time fly. Your utensils get thrown to the sink for your uncle's dish-washing operation as you move to your room. There is a lot you could do tonight, but one things stands out to you in particular.

Your old friend Ami.

She did say that she would stay in the hospital for a couple of days, if you recall correctly. Well, you definitely promised to visit her again, and it has been two nights since you saw her. You slap your head with your hand at your own forgetfulness. Even if you have been busy the last few days, you probably could have called her.

Feeling slightly embarrassed, you move to stand next to your table and bring out the sketch detailing your old group of friends held in one of the drawers. You stay there for a moment, the simple drawing captivating your gaze and diverting your attention away from everything else. It is strange, like during your time with your new friends, the memories held there have become even more distant to you.

But it is also quite easy to imagine Kishi, Evelyn and Ariane into the picture. You think their portraits could actually fit on the other side of the fourth, forgotten girl, as the small piece of paper still has room left...

You sigh and smile fondly... you were getting carried away there. You shake your head too get back on tracks, and flip the paper in your hands to read the number Ami wrote on the backside. You pick up your phone and copy the numbers on its screen. The room is silent for a moment as you let your heartbeat settle down before pressing the call button.

The phone toots slowly a few of times and the passing moments feel like an eternity to you.

"Hello, this Tsubasa Ami speaking?" a gentle voice suddenly speaks up from the other side of the line. You gulp nervously.

"Uh, h-hi, it's me, Tamiko," you tell her and move to sit on your bed, "I-I just wanted to call you and ask how you're doing there? And well... Um, sorry I haven't visited you after we last talked, I-I got a bit carried away with life and..."

You fall silent, realizing that blurting out everything probably doesn't make your apology sound very sincere. Fortunately, Ami doesn't seem to mind it that much as she just giggles in response, "Oh, don't worry Tamiko! I'm just happy to hear about you, there's no need to say you're sorry."

You let yourself fall prone on your bed and sigh, "I-I'm glad... But still, how are you doing? Have your legs gotten better?"

"I'm doing just fine!" she gently tries to assure you, "The doctor actually said that I'm making good progress, so I should be able to go back home tomorrow!"

You smile to yourself, relieved to hear that Ami is making recovery from her experiences with that music box witch, "That's great to hear. B-but uh, does that mean you will be going back to school soon?"

"Yup! Although, I will still be staying home for tomorrow, and get to skip gym for a week," she notes, sounding mildly embarrassed about admitting that, "But... I was actually wondering if you wanted to come visit after school? Um, this is probably a bit sudden, and it has been a while... But I'd really like if you could find the time!

Ami takes a small pause to think, but continues before you get a chance to answer one way or another, "Oh um, I'm also planning to guilt trip- err... ask Matsuko and Yuujin to come too. So there's that too... Just so you'd know!"

Well, on some level that does sound nice... But it is certainly quite sudden, and you are not sure how Ariane might take it after you also told her you would come.

What do you do?

Prior commitments take priority.

Should we call our sister again after this? I think it's worth a shot; the best to way to her to open up again is with persistence. Telling her that our lives are getting better and we're reconnecting with old friends might make her feel less guilty and be more open to talking.

Ah yes, the ultimate enemy of Social.

The inability to be in multiple places at once.

So, next time we do training, I want to see if we can make a few things. namely: energy constructs, force blasts, and eye lasers.
Why eye lasers you ask? well, remember when we first made our energy prosthetics in the music box witch fight? and how I posted a video of Evangelion Unit 01 doing exactly that?
Well, I want to fill out the rest of 01's repertoire. We already have energy shields made from the literal Light Of Our Soul, and can replace limbs with the same, now all we need to do is figure out how to throw people hundreds of feet with them and how to shoot laser beams from our eyes.

*Ahem*

So, uh, I've been going around, getting the occasional stuff done. Well, here are a couple of changes to the rules and mechanics I've been thinking about. However, these are WIP and before implementing them, I'd prefer to hear any feedback and/or suggestions for improvement.

First:
"Partial Cleanse: A Magical girl transferring grief from her Soul Gem to a grief seed can cut the process midway, albeit in a very limited manner. Accurate measurements are hard due to the transfer causing a euphoric feeling and the stream of grief being fastest in the beginning stages when the grief seed is at its emptiest. In practice, the Magical Girl can choose to drop the process at any increment of 200 point value after the pass of 1000 has been reached (i.e. 1000, 1200, 1400 etc.). This will mostly affect girls with higher potentials and is made to make their maintenance easier."

Second:
Retries: Sometimes things don't go as planned and someone dies, whether due to bad rolls or just plain bad planning. However, since getting someone ganked just because they rolled shittily is fucking annoying, there will be a limited amount of 'lives' or 'retries' that can be used to go back a limited time and redo the chain of events that led to the disaster. The amount is not infinite though, and a single retry is gained from doing well, i.e. from each of the following:
1) Make it through a chapter.
2a) Befriend a Magical Girl and have them join the Main Group.
2b) Befriend a girl with the potential to become a Meguca.
3) Defeat Horror Gallery Witch (90+ difficulty)
4) Random sidequests and QM fiat.

So you would have 5 retries at the moment using those parameters. Here are some examples.
1) Made it through prologue and chapter 1.
2a) Befriended Kishi and Ariane.
2b) Evelyn and Ami are here, though you have not yet fully reached through to the latter.
3) Anne Maria is the only one you've met.
4) ...Pretty much everything regarding Alice.

So, how does this work? I will also be reworking Ariane's abilities a bit to be more efficient as was suggested to me.
