Now that he mentions it, the air isn't exactly warm out here in the morning. Despite the Sun being up, the temperature is still rather low from the night. As a Magical Girl you can deal with that, but Mr. Verrier on the other hand might find himself a bit annoyed...
You nod slowly in reserved agreement, "F-fine, please lead the way..."
The walk inside is short even if you go to the yet unseen hallway. It feels a lot different now that Ariane has taken up to herself to illuminate everything she sees with those floating balls of light.
Under the revealing light, the entire house looks a whole lot more welcoming. The furniture blends pleasantly into the background and the paintings portray idyllic landscapes and celebratory events. Frankly, the Verriers could do with new light sources here if only to get rid of the creepiness.
The walk ends to an admittedly spacious dining room. All three of you sit down after Mr. Verrier has grabbed some glasses and filled his with coffee and the rest with hot chocolate from a thermos. Ariane hums to herself as she chugs down her portion while you get take it slow as you get interrogated.
"Well, first of all, I apologize for my outburst earlier," the man begins, "but I hope you can understand that as a father, my daughter's well-being is rather important to me, and I can't take any risks with her safety."
You nod silently and test the taste of the drink: still too hot, but also sweet. You don't say anything yet, though, as Mr. Verrier continues, "Now, I also understand that you have yet to tell everything there is to this whole business with Magical Girl. Especially the fighting monsters for a living."
Once again you nod in confirmation. With no real time restraint, you suppose it you should be honest here. "Y-yes, I think I covered most there is to witches... B-but I don't think I mentioned they hide in their own personal worlds called barriers, unique to each witch."
"I am more keen to hear about this fighting part." Mr. Verrier steps in, "What exactly would stop me from preventing Ariane from doing that in the first place?"
"Um, t-the saving people part?" you tell him the first thing in your mind, "B-but also these things called grief seeds each witch drops upon defeat. E-each Magical Girl has this thing called Soul Gem for using their magic." You de-transform again, partly to show the egg-shaped object and partly because the shield and sword were clearly not designed with everyday activities in mind.
You set the Gem in front of you on the table and bring out the nigh filled grief see you still have in your pocket. "S-see that black substance? I-it's,well... waste from using magic called grief. Using a grief seed like this cleanses it away. T-this is important because if the Gem goes completely black, the backlash can... be fatal."
You watch in morbid fascination as Mr. Verrier calmly lays down his cup and asks you with steel in his voice, "So. Am I to understand that these Magical Girls are essentially forced to fight for their lives? What or who is responsible for this?"
Uh, now that you think about it, that may sound a bit bad... But it is still worth it! So you try to explain the benefits, "W-well, that would be Mr. Kyubey. H-he grants a potential Magical Girl a single wish in exchange for that. T-this is why I think it's worth it... F-for me... and for Ariane..."
Next to you, Ariane nods in agreement and summons another ball of light to float around her. Mr. Verrier seems to understand the importance of this to you, and strokes his beard in contemplation.
"I see... Take it from someone in business, chances are that there is more to this Magical Girl system than you know, or have told me." Huh? "A system of forcing a teen-aged to fight for their life, even if for a chance at a miracle. I have several issues with this form of combating evil monsters. But that's neither here or now..."
He takes a small pause before continuing, not enough for you to come up with a protest to the implication that Mr. Kyubey is screwing you over. "But enough about that, why don't you tell me a bit about yourself? Since you are apparently a friend of Ariane's, I'd prefer to know who exactly I am dealing with."
"Uh, w-well, I'm still Tamiko... and I live with my uncle near the Northern park. I-I think he works for you? A-also I am on the third grade of the International school..."
"Hmm, I think I recognize this uncle of yours... If you haven't told him about this Magical Girl business, well, a word of advice, think how you put it and when you tell about it... It is better to give such information under circumstances where you are in control than let him find out on his own. Which I suspect he will."
But what would even a good time? Your uncle was in full panic mode this morning for a lot smaller thing, so adding piles of more worry to that doesn't seem very appealing. And how to break it without doing something irreparable is another matter entirely...
"However, do not rush it, but make a calculated decision. Nevertheless, I have a good enough of an impression of you now, so I'll let you two be in peace for now." Mr. Verrier announces with finality, closing the conversation. As he leaves the room, you breathe a sigh of relief and pocket the seed and Gem.
Ariane looks at you curiously, still in her Magical Girl outfit and surrounded by four of those floating orbs. "Say, Tamiko, are you going to be staying? I think father doesn't mind you here."
"M-maybe?" it's not like you have anything else planned for today at the moment, "S-say, do you, um, wish to talk about anything in particular?"
Ariane puts on an exaggerated thinking pose before having one of the light balls flash more intensely on top of her head, "Not really... But I have an idea, follow me! And bring the cocoa!"
She breaks into a merry sprint to the hallway, leaving you behind to grab the mugs and the thermos. You barely keeping up the pace, but it is easy to follow the only source of illumination. She has stopped next to a large painting that she... sets aside?
Stairs spring out from behind it, and you stare at the sight in astonishment. Ariane seems to notice and explain under the widening smile, "It's a secret passage! Father built to house full of these, and sometimes sets up puzzles with miss Celia. But I haven't been to this one because it goes to the roof."
She jumps into the hole with you close behind, still wondering who the heck builds secret passages to their house. The way is a tight-fit ladder space ending into a removable tile that Ariane sets aside as you two climb to the roof.
The roof is actually pretty damn high you realize now that you aren't focusing on the chimney, and you find yourself a bit nervous. Sure you don't care about the fall itself, but the sheer embarrassment from falling of the roof...
Ariane is motioning for you to follow her to the Eastern end of the house where she is already lying down on the roof tiles. How did she- You shake your head and follow her, careful to keep your balance on the structure.
As you get next to your friend, you notice the reason again. Up here above the trees of the yard, it is easier to see the Sun going up.
You sit down gently and give the other mug to her, before filling both with the chocolate drink. She smiles widely at the sight and starts leaning on your shoulder as she watches the Sun in the distance.
It is no longer a proper sunrise, but the view of the horizon in the distance is still breath-taking from this angle... "I am not ready to leave this sight just yet... Will you keep me company here?"

With Ariane's head leaning on your shoulder, you simply tilt your head a bit and quietly talk back to her, "Of course, I won't leave you alone." She breathes out in contentment, "Then I'm glad. I don't want the Sun to remain in my dreams any more..."
...That is something that has bothered you a while now. She sounded unsure about her wish having come true, and you can't help but to wonder about the reasons. You take a sip of your drink and ask about it, "S-say, Ariane, what exactly did you wish for? You sounded unsure about it allowing you to come out."
While you try to bring it up as casually as you can, you are feeling a bit anxious about the reaction. Kishi wasn't too keen on telling about hers when asked, and you wonder if it's improper to ask about thing like that... Fortunately Ariane doesn't seem to mind and she turns to look at you, making you quite aware how close you are sitting to each other.
"Well, I like my dreams a lot. They are so colorful, bright..." she giggles out loud and closes her eyes, "full of hope... I wanted to have my own place in the Sun, like I have always dreamed about! So that's why I asked... wished with all my heart... to make my dreams real!"
She rests her head on your shoulder again, and you smile a bit to yourself. It does sound like a good wish and you decide to ask gently, "Have your dreams come true?"
She laughs merrily, "Of course! I don't have stay in the dark anymore, I can see the Sun again..." you close your eyes for a second and take a gulp of cocoa from your mug, "and I got taken to a date by a cute magical knight!" only to spit it out almost immediately and start coughing frantically under the sudden blush flashing on your face.
You start stuttering at her in midst of the coughing fit, desperately trying to deny everything, "I-it's not *cough* like that! P-please d-don't *hack* think of it like that! J-just friends, okay *cough*?"
Ariane pats you in the back to help you cough out everything, and tries to apologize in between the intense bouts of happy laughter, "Sorry, I couldn't resist! But... it still nice to share the Sun with a friend, don't you think?"
Well, as long as it stays at the 'friends' part, you can agree with the sentiment, "Y-yeah... Y-you know, I have other friends out there too... W-would you like to meet them?"
Ariane seems to think about that hard, even if not for very long as she soon shakes her head a bit... "Maybe later, I don't want to the morning Sun end just yet... So let's stay here together for a moment, okay?"
Heh, you suppose they can wait... It is still quite early in the Sunday morning to call them anyways. Instead, you drink the rest of the hot chocolate and set aside the mug. There is still something you need to do and smile slyly at your friend...
She doesn't even realize what hit her as you surprise Ariane by suddenly wrapping your arms around her and pulling her into a deep embrace. The smaller girl yelps in surprise, but returns the gesture gladly as you both start laughing at each other on the roof without a care in the world,
But as you begin to settle down, she says your name almost pleadingly, "Tamiko..." Feeling somewhat curious to the reasons, you ask back quietly, "Y-yes?"
She hesitates for a moment, trying to gather courage to say it, even if she seems unsure what to tell you, "It... feels so warm... Could we stay like this for a moment?"
You chuckle a bit to yourself, and she tries to protest weakly, "Hey, please don't laugh..." Feeling a bit amused at the request, you nonetheless try to calm down yourself and answer her gently, "Sorry... But yeah, it sounds nice..."
