...The real lucky thing was rolling Valkyrie when Ellie used Dynamite. Without that we wouldn't be getting such a gigantic lore dump, and getting a close-up look at Leviathan, Hand or (presumably) the Interlocutor would have been a double-edged blade at best.
That did let you skip the part where you have to prove yourself to the R-Train up to an including having to Dynamite to get at Valiant Red's memories.

You missed out on a different lore-dump!

That makes sense!

Although that does make me wonder how things would have gone if we'd tried to talk to the R-Train in turn 2, with Mona. No way to prove ourselves, but we hadn't run into Valkyrie by that point, so presumably it wouldn't have kidnapped us at all.

* What was Catherine Hawkins' plan (and vibe), before she got one-shot by the Frozen Throne and became Baba Yaga? Is it the Susurration that prompted her to activate the R-Train, or did the one event come before the other? And of course, what changes did she make?
The R-Train was already active when the Susurration happened; I can't remember exactly what they did, but they were annoyed at a bunch of goldnine being displaced during the event.

You would have had to fight a giant robot while the Personality Module shouted exposition at you.
*Remembers the R-Trains opening Salvo*
*Remembers How it insta KO Mona and Ellie with some Psychic beam*

....No offense, but I dont see how we would have a "Fight". Anybody other than Mona would have been killed 7 ways to sunday. And the second R-Train used whatever it used when it took Mona and Ellie would mean lights out.

To be fair "how would this have been a fair fight" can apply to like half our fights so far, and we've still been going above and beyond with them.

It wouldn't be trying very hard. You'd be fighting one of its giant-robot drones, not one of its cars.

....Yay for the fact it would have gone easy on us?

....No bets that in some alternate universe SweetWoman telling her Players that the R-Train went "easy" on us, would have made the players want a salty run back once they had more P13 heroes or heroes with esoteric abilities.

"How do you make it stop? How do you make the pain stop?"

"I don't think you can. I think it hurts forever. Sometimes when people leave, they take a piece of your heart with them. They rip a hole inside you that never closes, never heals. And it aches, always."

"T-then . . . ?"

"The hole doesn't get smaller. But your heart does get bigger. Filled with other things. And then there's more inside of you than just the pain."
Yes this is exactly how grief works. Ow.
"What does this have to do with anything? Why does this matter? Why are you showing me this?"

"Because that's how you find the will to live." She pins you with her gaze. "You take a piece of their hearts and give them all of yours."

"But, what if—"

"You protect them. You protect them with everything you have."

"But—"

"You'll fail. People you love will die in front of you and tear another hole in your chest. The pain is inevitable. It will hurt forever. You do it anyway. You let them in and you let yourself love them knowing it will hurt. That is what it means to be 'valiant'."
To be valiant is to love with your whole being.

To borrow from a totally different philosopher:
Clive Staples said:
"To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable."

Love and you will be porous; grown and healthy but still with burned-through-holes in you, holes that have peoples' names and the end of what grew within you with their name on it.

The R-Train is gving me HK-47 vibes, except not a maliciously-murderous assassin droid but a partially-hacked partially-cracked protector that was never what it was meant to be thrust into its role before its time. All the exposition on the ALSW-project stuff we got I kept getting Metroid Fusion vibes. The whole "people started trying to play with things they barely understand and use things beyond their control or ability".

I only just managed to finish reading the update over my lunch break, not even going to try to turn it into further analysis, but I figured a couple of "these are the vibes I am getting" comments would not be out of place.

Something that doesn't quite make sense to me: the R-Train was active before the Susurration given that it was around to be mad at the goldnine getting disrupted then, but like... Valiant Red was still alive then? Did he not realize the R-Train was off, or did the deletion of Valiant Blue somehow make him forget about making it?

OK, the timeline now as I understand it:
  1. The Susurration begins.
  2. Baba Yaga activates the R-Train (—was the team's psychologist. She is Temporary User No. 1 who first activated the R-Train, and it is she who would later activate ALSW-III. Her name is—)
  3. Valiant Red dies.
  4. The Susurration ends.
  5. The Frozen Throne is activated 8 years later.
All of which is... conveniently good timing for BY. How could she be certain Valiant Red would die and not be around to undo her changes to the R-Train? How was she ready to make those changes so quickly? (Could she have set off Valkyrie to begin with?) And when in this timeline does Valiant Blue get deleted?

It's still so fucking weird that a Temporary User can remove an Authorized User's credentials without actually removing their ability to approve of you, how the fuck did that happen. It looks like she just somehow effectored the R-Train to where it knew the process was garbage but had no choice but to execute it anyway. Like the R-Train had a built in logic-error that she exploited. The question is, did she put that error in there by gaslighting the other people in the project, or did someone put it in secretly but then she was told it by someone else?

I blame the regressor dude, this feels like something he set up.

Doesn't even have to be a secret thing. Those kinds of exploits aren't like...Rare in computers you know? Hey give me admin access for a sec, You know i can be tru-YOU THOUGHT WRONG.

Classic scam. Might have even been one long time in the making given Baba seems intent on doing things low and slow. Maybe even something reasonable like "Listen Red, If this goes off bad we need a way to stop the R Train so let's have a secret backdoor blahblah"

Red Train Personality is even well aware of the bullshit that they can and can't do so like...Computer Fu'd into doing something stupid is entirely reasonable.

Takes a Drag of a Cigarette: Tell us about it, bro.

Plus it's been mentioned a couple of times that the R-Train has capital F Flaws that would make access much easier, and gives off vibes more of "decaying nuclear weapons facility with Depressed Communist Glados stuck in the control room" rather than "well oiled machine".
I'd put chips to table that the only reason R Train still runs is because it's hard to talk to him in any capacity, because, let's face it, he was jumping at the chance for anything to happen with anyone. If some wackjob with some tenuous connection to Valkyrie (which is a lot of powerful people) got on, there's a non-zero chance we could have had Thomas' Strongest Soldier under Hour Control.

We don't actually know what Augur's powers are. Just that he's likely from another timeline and that Blue Nora followed him.

We don't even know if Augur has powers
I swear if we find out that Augur has just been stuck in the fucking time loop but isn't even CAUSING the time loop.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE HAS NO POWERS HE'S JUST SOME GUY WHO'S BEEN GOING THROUGH IT!?

Augur: I have had to sit through you two IDIOTS mooning over each other in so many fucking ways it's sickening and I hate it. Goth Mona was funny though.
Ellie: Wait explain that one.

... now I wish that turns out to be truth. Also Ellie has her priorities straight (not really). Also this is totally Omake fodder.
