I forget, why were we bothering councilors again? Did we have an objective?

Yes.

Build 2 points of Industry or Infrastructure in North America (Int(M-L), Int(D))
Build 2 points of Industry or Infrastructure in industrialized regions (SDL)

This will give us one for both and will probably make a bunch of people happy. Then it's one more in North America and we've completed that one.

Glad to see this lovely quest back!

Good to have photovoltaics. How expensive are they exactly? Would it be worth it for us to set up a factory for true mass production, or are the demands of the satellite program low enough that we get by with semi-artisanal works and leave other companies to do mass roll-out in non space roles?

And we get ultrakerosene and Hydrazine, two essential modern-day rocket fuels. Nice, to get some basics.

Oh way cool! You go space cowboy. Where does this game sit on the hard/soft sci-fi spectrum?
Pretty far on the hard end, I'd say.

Sorry for the long update wait. I've just had a lot going on. Including, notably, the fact that I'm now helping make an actual space exploration videogame.

What are your thoughts on the game Extrapolation aka Heliosphere? It also goes very hard on the 'hard end' of space exploration videogames!

Announcing Extrapolation

SPACE SETTLEMENT BUILDING AND MANAGEMENT GAME I’d like to announce Anisoptera Games’ Extrapolation, a space settlement building and management game set in a realistic model of our solar…

[X] [BOTHER] Divert resources to rebuilding Industry in [name the region you want]. (Takes 3 turns to complete)

I figure we'll be better off if we choose this over Infrastructure, since we can build Infrastructure at a much lower cost.

I can't believe we're letting America get pork-barrel projects from a space program. This is the path to downfall after all, you can't let your rocket program get involved in pork programs and jobs in NA.

Perhaps more pertinent, more arcade-y or more simulationist?
Right about where KSP sits is what we're aiming for.

I think it's super cool, and having enjoyed a lot of Reassembly once upon a time I trust they'll deliver something fun.

[X] [BOTHER] Divert resources to rebuilding Infrastructure in North America.

The way I see it, infrastructure is a more immediate improvement to qualify of life AND it makes it easier to build industry later on.

I must strenuously disagree with you about infrastructure being better for QoL. Building Industry means increasing employment, which has a huge impact on quality of life. Mind you, the unemployment benefits in the region are probably pretty solid, but being unemployed or even underemployed is unpleasant to say the least, even if you don't need to work for a living. I'm speaking from personal experience here.

As for building Infra helping to build Industry, I don't think we've seen any in-universe evidence of that. It makes a certain amount of sense when you think about it, as areas suitable for building industry (i.e. urban areas) are probably among the first places to get infrastructure repair.

Your infrastructure score limits the other indicators outside of stats added by projects.

If you have 10 Infra, the only stats that can be higher than 10 without project modification are unrest and security.

Plus, good public transport Infra does arguably increase QOL.

Ah, I still would prefer to do Industry once this year, but I suppose it can wait until next turn.

Have you played the demo yet? Will you or the marketing folk of the game you are working on be able to compare and contrast what this seemingly peer game does to yours?

Do you think infrastructure buildouts *aren't* a major source of employment? :p

Of course they are. It's just that factories tend to stick around longer than construction projects*. Of course, Infrastructure should provide some jobs long term as well (toll booth operators, road repair crews, train drivers, etc.). It's just that they will be a lot fewer than an equivalent amount of Industry.

*Exceptions obviously exist, but they usually involve the sort of debacles we want to avoid

Is the US doing that, or do we have the post WWII highway construction boom instead?

Considering the US doesn't exist...

Its controls are a bit wonky and unintuitive and it desperately needs a tutorial, but yes at this point we've all given it at least one poke. Ours is different enough to not be competing for the exact same crowd - not that we care, as the game we're working on is going to be open source and thus we don't care about money.

(Related: that open sourceness is the reason I've spent the last week working on style guides and a set of clearly defined rules to follow, so that we can have volunteers drop in and out of the project as they please.)
