Atop a rooftop, a Fixer in garish red-and-purple uniform sat before a Fixer in white-and-blue uniform. In her eyes, the Fixer in red-and-purple saw something. It looked familiar, and the answer refuses to even touch the tip of her tongue. It was something soft, though, so she thought it can't possibly be a bad thing.

Now that Fixer in red-and-purple stands here, assaulted by the sensation that this has happened before.
Why the fuck is what I assume an Iori, Purple Tear, meeting Blue Fucker PoV showing up randomly here? Honestly everything about the italic text is weird since Lily just somehow knew that there were 5 people and while that can be fluff for the instinct pass it's still weird.

Does it have something to do with Lily's dead parents? Is the Purple Tear literally our grandma instead of the jokes? Or does it have something to do with the Light and/or how Lily seems to just improve without any training IC i.e. our XP system?

So, Kai's fighting a 1v1 because she ganked one of the two she fought freely?

Also, I think it might have been a flashforward of some kind? White and Blue is as much Kai's colors as Red and Purple are Lily's

And in a sense, the way this update rolled out, this is really the start of our Legend as a Fixer Duo.

That being said, it Could be Grandma doing things. She is playing an ineffable game of her own devising, and Lily so far looks like she might be a shoe-in as a First Generation E.G.O.I.S.T.

Yem. It would mean that since you're not trying to advance on her, you can't do shit all to pay back the damage. Ranged (not Gun in particular) is strong. Ish. But it gets really weak (practically useless) when you get up close and personal.

So it's Scylla and Charybdis then? Accept the One-Sided Attacks of a Temperance Specialist with bad touch effects, or resist the onslaught of a Ranged Deck until she runs out of cards and has to go into melee if she doesn't want to suck and die?

Sad to burst the bubble, but I'm just doing some weird stuff -- it's Lily flashing back to the rooftop.

But it could be a flashforward though!

That's actually a pretty cool read, though, and I can see it working that way too.

So let's just say it's both. :V

But yea, Kai did some work in the background. There were actually seven people -- two of which were guarding the backdoor. Kai silently took them down, and then killed the last two mooks which were guarding Mia. And with Mia now in Kai's hand, unless Kai suddenly got screwed over, you can fight on without restraint.

"What choice do I have then?!" you almost take step back from surprise. That's the first time he raises his voice. "Yes, I know, but what choice am I left with then?" he presses a palm over his chest, breathing. Gasping. "Tell me, Fixer. Tell me. I hired you for a reason, didn't I?"

[Empathy Check: Medium. Pass.]

You hear – recognize the despair in his voice. Hoarse, and shrill. How long has he been holding it in? Too long. Ever since he realized her daughter has gone missing, ever since the ransom note arrive on his doorstep. Each passing second, minute, and hour, edging closer and closer ever so closer towards the narrow tip of the precipice. Agonizing, and dreading, and fearing. Your words just pushed him over.
Not seeing actual consequences of this check, but it's good to see Lily understanding people around her. She learns, she grows. So proud of her.
Wu's face contorts. All those pent-up shit laid to bare – but they're gone almost immediately, back to that firm, flinty look. He takes a step forward.

[Instinct Check: Medium. Pass.]

You bar his path with an arm. He glares, a curse in his lips. "Don't be fucking stupid," you mutter, stepping towards the daughter. Your hand rests atop your crowbar. Wu keeps close behind you, your body as a cover. One step. Two. Three. "It's obviously a fucking trap."
Guessing failing this check would hurt him but not kill him. A complication right now and a black mark later.
Excluding you, there are five people in this room.

Where's the fifth?
I am pretty sure there was no clue in text above about fifth person. Damn, Instinct skill sometimes feels like Counting in a gnarly costume.
"Hmhm," the woman hums, closing her eyes. "Did we say four million? I thought we said five –"
They did the whole hidden fifth thing for this gag, didn't they?
"Ooh, you might not subscribe it, but you're already in, brother," the woman nods, almost excitedly. "You get it. Caring, but not caring. There's an uncaringness that is quite hardcore."
They are more artistic goth loonies with a nihilistic ruthlessness fetish. Typical City material.

[X] Focus on the Leader. He's the more dangerous one out of the two. You can feel it. Take him out of the equation, and you can deal with the woman easy. Easier said than done, of course. You'd have to deal with the woman throwing knives at ya.
-[X] Repression

Moment Lily manages to crack them, she can just call out how soft they are, drive it in.

What I got out of it is what Lily and Kai currently are.

Red and Purple: Fortitude and Temperance.

White and Blue: Prudence and Justice.

It's a representation of how the two of them are evolving and changing as the Quest goes on. Lily's focus on Fortitude and Temperance makes her look Red and Purple. Someone capable of great violence but also one of the few people able to connect and understand others in the city on a larger level than just "This City Fucking Sucks".

Kai, on the other hand, has been focusing on Prudence and Justice. She's becoming a more logical person, with a personal pride behind a lot of her actions. She can't connect with others as well as Lily, but in some ways she doesn't have to.

Let's bully a child. Since not only is his mind weak he also has some decent armor which will make hurting him conventionally annoying. Might as well use this opportunity to see how Repression looks like

And hey, if it all goes right, but actually wrong like Roland kills Angela bad end wrong, we end might end up seeing an epilogue with Lily and Kai ending up as the new Red (or Purple) and Blue color fixers. Maybe. If she survives that long.

Wu's got one hell of a poker face for him going for him. Still though, how the hell did his daughter get kidnapped in the first place? Was the Syndicate trying to recruit her?

Also, is the reason why we're purple currently is because Lily's learning how to socialize with others at the moment? Or is it just to contrast what Kai is currently working on?

Well that turned out much better then I was expecting! Kai and Wu have rescued the hostage and we are back in our element. A battle to the death.

If we manage to get out of this alive, we should treat Kai to lunch. Without her, this would of gone much worse.

I enjoy how they complain about sneak attacks before trying one themselves. In the City, it's only okay if you're the one doing it.

After many years of lurking, I finally decided to make an account to take part. This quest is amazing so far and scratches the itch I have for Library of Ruina.

Let's get to stuff about the quest now, I like to ramble so let's see if I can stay focused.

Since I didn't see anybody else discussed it yet, let's talk about dice. My opinion is a yay to changing it and seeing how it goes. Two dice are more reliable than one die, meaning that it is easier to pass checks that we really shouldn't be losing too often. We can pass medium difficulty checks on the average of 7 and can auto-pass easy checks as long as we have a plus +1 to the skill (need +4 to auto-pass medium checks but that is far, far away). It also tidies up leveling stats from a roughly +2/+3 to a straight +3 to all relevant skills. Not a actual +3 mind you, but an equivalent from lowering the difficulty.

I think it is worth it for the reliability alone but there are a few things to keep in mind.

One: More reliability means less upsets for both us and our foes. There is less chance of rolling low or high for everybody, relying on luck is not going to cut it. If we going against someone who looks at us like we look at Rats, we need to very careful. I don't see this as an issue really, I consider it as a good thing as it means we need to be smarter and wiser about our actions.

Two: This is a late game thing, but it is something I noticed. The difficulty checks go from 2-5-7-10-12-15 to 3-6-9-12-15-18, it is the last two I want to bring attention to. Improbable checks go from a max roll and +2 to a max roll and +3 to pass while Impossible checks go from a max roll and +5 to a max roll and +6 (which is to be Legendary in a skill, maxed out in other words). +2 to +3 is meh, but from near-max to maxed? Much more troubling.

How much troubling? Not as much as why are we need a max roll and a maxed out skill in the first place. At that point we have pinned us in a corner and have chosen the worst way to get out of it for the last three posts. This should not be an issue.

Three: While the above two points were me just having fun thinking, I am actually concerned about this one. 2D6 hurts more than 1D10. Minimum hurts more, average hurts more, maximum hurts more. I know this one from personal experience, that 2D6 does a lot more than you would think. HP and SP do not change and fights we could survive with a sliver left turns into fights we are not walking away from. I really like the way HP and SP are right now so I do not think it should be revised right now but everything will hit much harder so we will need to keep closer watch on incoming damage. I believe it will be fine but I like to be cautious.

I love talking about mechanics so I would adore it if anybody fact-checks me or gives some proper odds/statistics.

I will end the analysis here and move on to something else that has been plaguing me. I keep thinking about the spar with Kai and reactions from players in Kai!Quest seeing Lily having two stages of HP higher and a +1 armor higher than them.

Might not seem it, but Kai!Quest' playerbase is stubborn as they are contrarian, and bold. They see that shit, and they immediate go 'imma climb that mountain' and 'ah, a real challenge'. Having a leg-up as "Legendary Fixer's Child" for her background doesn't... make them complacent, so to say, but it does mean that they don't carry the same urgency as Lily does.

That being said, I'm calling the vote!

Let's see how this Repression thing works, and if I need to tweak it. (Probably lol)
