[X] Kai – Mao and Mori walk ahead of you, and that leaves you back with Kai. She doesn't say anything – and compared to the chatterbox that was Mao, you find Kai both comforting, and unsettling. But if you're going to work with her, then you're gonna have get used to her. You're reminded to how she fought back then with Ran – maybe you could ask her about that?

I want to know cool girl more she seems fun.

[X] Weapons – You like your crowbar. You don't think you'll be changing that, but that doesn't mean your crowbar has to stay as is. Just as there are augmentations to the body, there are also augmentations to the weapon. Kai's sword, for example, you know well could do something funny.

I just like the idea of super crowbar tbh

[X] Plan Save it for a Rainy day
-[X] No XP spent

Don't really feel like we need to spend any XP right now would much rather save it when we pick the next mission to better focus our XP. Sure it might mean we might not be able to benefit from increased skills in the mean time but I feel being able to say power level Justice and/or Ego when we're preparing to face mind breaking horror.

Also a reminder to Link and everyone else unless you level up something putting XP into the skill is pointless since whether you're 1 point or a thousand points from the next level is equally meaningless. All it does is limit our flexibility for no gain so please don't just put a fifth of our points into Melee or Endurance for no reason.

Fortitude (Favored): II (0 / 850) - You're tough, and you're getting tougher. You feel lighter, faster, like you could take on more than you used to. It's a weird feeling, but you're not complainin', 'kay? It's also a good feelin'. Feels like you could take up on anything, even though y'know you can't. At least, ya think you could scale out your win-loss ratio a bit against those fuckers; they can't look down on ya no more. Anway, people don't just grow tougher, y'know? Not without money. Not without fancy weapons, or body mods. In the Backstreets, you only get tough enough, an' going more than that implies you got better things to do than scraping for money. That means something, you're pretty sure. Not that you're not still scraping for money, but -- for years, you've been staying at this one place, and it feels like you're getting somewhere, is what you're going at, yea?
This updated since I last checked and Lily (there's too many stories I've been reading recently with the female protag being named Lily) seems to have realized her level up and warry of it. Since it apparently isn't fluffed as increased training or something but a sudden click and she's stronger which isn't how things work. Guess we're special after all

Last thing but I've recently binged a lot of Lobom Corp and have to say the setting sure is interesting even if my knowledge has a lot of gaps. I mostly just read the wiki and watched a video of the main story stuff so I don't really get the minutia like I get Abnormalities are bad but not really how bad besides like Alephs are scary. There's stuff called Ego weapons and suits I think you get from killing Abnormalities but apparently you can awaken your own and that's good? All in all really looking forward to more of this quest

Mm, getting into the Deep Lore a bit, but E.G.O. is effectively "Willpower made Manifest". L-Corp's Singularity involved dredging out universal memes from the collective unconsciousness of humanity and then effectively tools from those memes and weaponizing them. Which is enough that even a normal mortal can become superhuman just by putting on a fancy suit and a weapon.

But every individual person has an E.G.O. of their own, and it's the one most suited for you by definition. The endgame of the "Seed of Light Plan" was to shine a light of inspiration across the city, stimulating the awakening of everyone's E.G.O. and thus forcing the Head out of power and returning the right to choose your own destiny to the people of the City. This failed because the one put in charge of monitoring the project's status went rogue and kept the Light for herself in the first act of rebellion she was physically capable of conducting after literally millions of subjective years overseeing every iteration of the project. So people had their subconsciousness stirred up but not given the strength of will to control E.G.O. When this happens, people tend to withdraw into their own neuroses and become a monster known as a Distortion. The strong of heart and will though can power through that instinct and manifest their own E.G.O. instead, which gives monstrous power--enough to shake the foundations of the City

Anyway, that aside, the XP plan is fine--call it remedial training.

[X] Augmentations – technologies; sometimes old Singularities which patents have expired, and never renewed, to actual Singularities like nanomachines that are being sold. Augmentations are technologies that allow your body to perform incredible feats. Often, it's just to strengthen your body, but as those tattoos from Hood Man showed, they could do more than that.

Weapons are nice, and if we want to go full Black Silence and build up an armory? That's cool.

But the first step to surviving as a Fixer is to have a body and mind that can keep up with your spirit--and we're a long-ass way from E.G.O.

Edit: Still on a rampage? Does that mean a few more months at most till the star

A couple before canon begins, give or take. It has only been a couple -- to a few months since the Pianist incident.

We need augments before weapons, weapons can come after we strengthen up, but we very much need more strength.
[] Mao – Even though it's only been a day, it feels as though you're cursed to be forever stuck with Mao. Throwing her hand around your shoulders, and practically dragging you ahead of the road, she talks about… Distortions, about the Loud Orchestra, and other Syndicates. You feel goosebumps rising across your skin. That's not a topic you expected from her.
We need info, even as readers we might know these things already, Lily might not, and only heard it through the grapevine.

You forgot to put X into your votes.

Now that I think about what type of ranking would Scarecrow Office fall under? High Urban Plague or low Urban Nightmare?

From the Library's Point of View? More or less. They're at least above Wedge/Dawn Office on account of having more numbers in their ranks.

Angela did literally nothing wrong
I don't disagree. And the more we learn about the plan the shadier it looks. It's telling that the literal best interpretation of it still kind of assumes that "All I need to do is make superhuman power readily available and everything will be happy!"
Angela has a well of parental issues to sort through (she is literally the brainchild of Ayin and Carmen. Uncle Benjamin was kind to her in the beginning but ended up being killed by her.).

At least she has her new best friend to help her sort through them and the group therapy sessions brings everyone together to vent their frustrations!

Hah, that's funny, you're a funny man.

I still expect that the Keter Realization is going to be something else. It seems to be strongly suggesting that--absent the Floor Realizations--Roland is going to betray Angela to be the next run on the cycle of betrayals that is the entire story of L-Corp.

And so the 'Default Ending' is one where Roland stabs her in the back right as she gets her mortality and takes the Light to do his own thing (Whatever it is, be it revenge of bringing Angelica back and his unborn child back). I suspect though that the Keter Realization is going to be the turning point where his priorities shift. Angela's own Realizations seem to be done with WhiteNight being the final one where she has the pieces needed to come to a new resolution after all (What with it being the first Realization that has her still being on the field when the E.G.O. collapses)

Notably, I took a look at the Sephira Chart in the Floor Selection screen--and there is room for Da'at on it if I'm not mistaken. I wonder if Angela is personally going to see to the Keter Realization?

B-but muh Day 49 tho! :V

Alectai explained all the stuffs relevant to the quest -- but Abnormalities are (as I see it) basically people who got their neuroses really, really pushed in so hard that they became more than just Distortions, embodying that one singular Trauma/Neurosis/Theme. It's telling, of course, that the process of converting someone into an Abnormality is mostly artificial, involving injecting the subject with C-Juice, with only a couple rare ones being 'natural'.

The hilarity of day 49 is that as apocalyptic as it came across...

Well, according to ProjectMoon, "The Head would sort things out pretty quickly"

The more we hear about the Head's capabilities the more horrifying they come across, which has Ruina's last arc of the Library reaching the point where it has Officially Become The Head's Problem very curious.

Day 49 is the day where everything is a on fire with the lower bots doing their thing all at the same time right? Since iirc day 50 is the true ending which seemed to be a normal day from the little I saw just with a 'twist'.

It is telling that even Roland paused at that best case interpretation and said that that is a bit of an insane ask and seemed way too idealistic. Though with the fact that Carmen's unfettered id is basically the one that has been coralling the Reverberation Gang... maybe the plan failing was part of it?
Notably, the way the Realization has been set up follows the voting patterns of the former Sephirahs during Dark Days and White Nights on whether or not a ceasefire should occur, with Malkuth, Yesod, Hod, Netzach, and Hokma who voted against Angela fighting her and the ones who voted for her fought Roland instead.

The main thing ofc, that vote is a tie, because Angela herself has a vote in it and she is still the Patron Librarian of General Works, not Roland. I would say that while it may indeed be a backstab, Binah's Realization hinted on the fact that Roland may well be able to break the cycle and find a measure of peace and redemption.

Mmmhmm, yeah, I'm inclined to agree.

Of all of the people involved in the Library, Roland is the only one that Carmen or Ayin didn't Choose at some point. He got in because the Purple Tear dropped him off inside while he wasn't looking, and he was recruited by Angela in the present day--the only member of the Sephira who Angela chose, and the only one who entered the Library uninvited.

That feels like it'll be important in the endgame. With how the plot's going towards a reckoning with Carmen and Ayin's legacy.

Of course, Roland has his own hang-ups, I am super eager to see what the Keter Realization is going to be in light of that

I'm not touching any of the story speculation around here.

What I will say is in regards to this:

Don't really feel like we need to spend any XP right now would much rather save it when we pick the next mission to better focus our XP. Sure it might mean we might not be able to benefit from increased skills in the mean time but I feel being able to say power level Justice and/or Ego when we're preparing to face mind breaking horror.

That won't happen unless we get really unlucky. Considering Roland's still on his Roaring Rampage Of Revenge right now, the Distortions are actually pretty small in number at this point. They don't start being a real problem until the Library starts being active. Don't get me wrong though, I'm all for Power Leveling Justice, Ego, Vision, and Repression at some point.

For now though? I think Melee, Endurance, Instinct, and Negotiations are more pressing.

Edit: You know, unless we decide getting on the WARP Train is a good idea.

It does make me wonder how big the City is, that you need to Travel for hundreds--if not thousands--of years to go places

That actually raises the question, do you?

Do you actually have to wait that long to get across the city, or is W Corp's singularity purposely locking you into a pocket section of Space Time?

R. Corp II kinda implicitly explained it. They don't need to. W. Corp made an agreement with T. Corp to basically let the latter collect the years for their everyday technologies in exchange for some iteration of TimeTrack tech to restore the passengers from their thousand-years agonies. Nothing but simple corpo kickbacks, am I right?

Also I am pretty sure it's stated that the City is continent-sized area, or at least 'bigger on the inside' due to how the Backstreets are noted to be 'shifting' in some of the texts.

EDIT: Non-spoiler got Yujin'd

It was continent-size. Dunno where I got that from (DD, maybe), but I distinctly remember that being the case.

Jesus. I did not know that.

So, the Outskirts are just other continents?

In other kinda sorta related news, I made the characters from Lob Corp in Rimworld.

It's been....a weird journey so far.

So, the Outskirts are just other continents?
Not quite. It seemed like where-ever the City is — and taking to account of its size, it's on the rim of a super-continent landmass where one or two District touches the water. The Outskirts and the Ruins beyond it are land-connected with the same landmass so the distinction is somewhat academic.

Also the Outskirts and Ruins are at the least the place where L. Corp did manage to snatch some of the most established Abnormalities as they were extant entities prior to their containment, like the Birds and Red Riding/Wolf.

I know its unlikely I'm just using it as an example of a thing we could do. Like how if we instead saved our initial XP until the update where we had the choice to either start the fight or try and talk things down we could had then put our XP in Negotiations to better our odds at succeeding.

Now this style does have disadvantages since it means it's inherently reactive and not good at sudden situations and it doesn't give the benefits of increased levels in the mean time so we would lack Fortitude 2 which could had changed things for the worse potentially. I acknowledge this disadvantages its just I think saving up is preferable in this type of game.

Also once again there is no point in putting points into a skill if it will not level up so putting 110 into Endurance or Melee does nothing but limit our flexibility for no benefit. We could instead save those 110 points for either when we have enough XP to level it up in one go or maybe to upgrade Technology to Rookie if we really need to since coincidentally 110 XP is enough for that. Like I just don't get the reasoning.

Hell I'll make a plan that doesn't waste the XP and just gets us the skill ups to prove a point.

[X] Plan: Negotiating in Good Faith

[X] Mori – With Mao talking "Little" Kai's ears off, that leaves you back with Mori. Compared to Mao, you find Mori easier to talk with, and he seems to sympathize with you. Honestly, you're also a bit curious with how his prosthesis, and augmentations worked

Reading about you guys talking about the plan kinda made me feel like you didn't exactly read the newest bits of lore.
Because that isn't the plan. E.G.O is a side effect, not the main goal of the whole plan. The whole goal was to put Carmen's voice inside everyone's head and have her guide everyone into being themselves, which is the main goal. Although, right now, we don't exactly know why Carmen is telling people to distort. Instead of guiding them to become human.

Five bucks says Angela actually pissed Carmen off instead of Ayin by fucking up the plan.
