Nice. The benefit of being immortal is that you have no problem being stubborn and drawing out negotiations :V

I just imagine the Inquisitor and Aken staring at each other from opposite sides of the table, neither wanting to budge on their stance. After three straight days of motionless staring, the Inquisitor says "Fine."

and she does it in the most sour way possible, because if SHE DOES start a shit-fest, we wont have problems being a massive thorn the imperium REALLY does not need at this point of time. every time a battle-fleet is diverted their enemies get stronger and stronger, and thus every world we take/burn they grow weaker.

Now all we need to do is create the pylon network and make a Null-Zone around our turf that we expand. because fuck the imperium and fuck the damn warp.

I wholeheartedly agree. Also @Lonkas if we do build all those pylons, will it interfere with Warp travel, so that the Imperium and Chaos have a harder time moving into/through our territory? I don't count the Orks cause they are Orks.

I'm going to have to investigate the lore around null zone pylons. Thinking strictly in regards to the ones around Cadia though. I believe it would simply calm the warp rather than make it non-traversable. Though again investigation required.

For something on the sub Sector or greater scale rather than system your looking at marvels or Triarch tech. Not mass manufacture

For the simple fact that no dynasty in law has done it

I'm not sure if this would count as a Wonder or not but something similar has been done by Szeras Pariah Nexus - Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum

I do believe that it does still allow for Warp Travel, however. It seems to have the effect of "reinforcing" reality and in the process building the equivalent of a bunker wall between it and the Warp. It will keep Pschic powers and demons away and seal up Rifts but a ship entering a momentary rift and then exiting again should still be in the cards as it is still a material object.

If you wish for peace...
Well, isn't that interesting, you think to yourself as you nod to the warrior. Who nods in return and steps back behind the inquisitor. "Thankyou for your valued input into these discussions"

You are silent for a time as you think on what has been said. And what has been offered. Finally, after nearly a full half minute you once again gaze into the resolute face of the Inquisitor. "Your requirements are beneath my dignity Inquisitor, and they are utterly refused." You allow your words to sink in for a few moments before you continue "I am older than your entire race mortal, I have watched even stars be born and snuffed out in a war beyond your comprehension. I Who have fought with and even killed those you would see as gods amongst the void. You would dare demand tribute of me? No, there will be no tribute. If there is to be peace between our peoples you will have to come to understand that you are dealing with your betters." From the inquisitor you see a snarl of restrained irritation and from even the gene warrior there is a slight raising of his massive rifle, matched near imperceptibly by Lasthules own slight twitch.

Ignoring this however you continue "You hold yourselves, humanity! To be the peak of life in this galaxy, yet your imperium fails imperceptibly year by year. Your mechanicus holds what knowledge it can like pearls of the gods. Yet it forgets small crucial details in the fog of ages. I have read your myths and legends, human. I know that during your Emperor's apogee, humanities mastery of its sciences was far greater than it is today, and yet far less than it had once been. Yes your territories are vast and your fleets numerous, yet what happens when time wears on. As more and more you forget? With no effort from I or my kin, will humanity one day be reduced to nothing more than scattered primitives, incapable of reaching beyond their own petty kingdoms? Their own petty squabbles?" you lean back in upon your throne and in a more equanimous tone say "Only time will tell I suppose. Though, know this, for the price of peace between our two peoples. I, with but the least bit of effort, could halt your ignoble decline. Do you know why they call me scholar lord human?"

Flickers of emotion cross the inquisitors face as she listens to you speak. "Your a scientist king. An archmagos at the head of a dynasty." Then she smiles "And quite scorned by your brethren for it, or so I'm told. Scholar lord is not much of a title I have been informed."

You glare at the warrior frame "For those who lack an understanding of their own history, yes, yet we have made the title our own. For unlike the more stagnant among our brethren, the Yulenoth have not forgotten what brought the Necrontyr to our greatest heights." You turn back to the human. "From science, to philosophy, to engineering, our vaults hold knowledge undreamt of by lesser races. And for this reason among others the crypteks flock to my court, and the artifacts and wonders seen by our race are crafted by my hand. Thus I and only I, am able to make the following offers in exchange for peace with your empire. The imperium will be allowed to pay for the right to access the workings of my courts artificers. Trinkets such as staves, which master lighting itself and allow its wielder to call forth bolts from the heavens. Amulets, which draw upon the subconscious of your foes to make even the hardiest warriors flee, as though death itself were upon them" You shrug. "such would be the least of my crypteks capabilities, yet I imagine that you would still find such tools of great use. Furthermore, I, as claimed earlier, offer to halt the inevitable collapse of your kind. In the ensuing peace should it occur, I shall allow you to request the services of my crypteks to investigate relics of your more glorious past. Then, they, with the knowledge garnered from millennia of training. Shall inform you in terms even mortals can understand exactly how your forefathers achievements could be duplicated. For such a service, which nearly none could offer, I will of course charge a significant price. And I of course would hold ultimate power to accept or decline propositions"

the Inquisitor stands with a stalwart grimace upon her face. Yet you see the spark of avarice in her eyes. How much acclaim would she acquire, you wonder. If even a single relic of their lost past could be restored, no matter its provenance. Still she skillfully hides nearly all outward signs of such thought and responds in a deliberately even tone. "Firstly, If peace were to be had Overlord. The Imperium would commission these items which you speak of, they would be made to our specific requirements for our specific purposes. We would not take kindly to being given the handouts of your courts. Nor should you expect forgiveness if these devices were to act contrary to their purpose" You nod and she continues. "There are also items within the Imperium's vast possessions which are too monumental to move or to take specific diagrams of. Therefore should we require the services of these 'Crypteks' they would be brought with us to study such things that we would wish restored or studied" You consider briefly before nodding, a gesture she mirrors sharply. "In regard to your veto, I will say only this. If you forbid enough that we judge you are not acting according to the spirit of the agreement, we will then consider it to be a violation of the treaty and would respond as appropriate when an agent of the Emperor's Inquisition is slighted. Despite this, I will admit overlord, that these are interesting propositions, but you are yet to speak on the ministorum. Am I to think that you accept that requirement in full?

You nod forcing a jovial tone from your mouth. "Inquisitor, I would gladly welcome the ministorum among my worlds. In fact I would say that we should go further. I would go so far as to welcome an advisor amongst my court in such matters. I, after all feel that I would need assistance in this regard." Your tone drops to a much more sinister pitch" As my vaults would indicate. I'm merely skilled in the death of false gods, not their worship." In the space of microseconds the gene warrior has raised his rifle to aim directly at you while Lasthule has stepped forward raising his warscythe to bring it down on the warrior as soon as they fire. The inquisitor however merely holds her ground, the fury in her eyes doing little to strike fear into you as you continue speaking. "Of course, I must be rewarded judiciously for caring as deeply about these human subjects of mine as it seems you do. Indeed the only thing that seems to match the value of you having an advisor in my court would be the original purpose of my visit." You slowly and purposely look deep into the sky, you know the inquisitor cannot see it, but you look directly at the only inhabitable planet in the region." Sivana." You say finally. "If you wish for the ministorium to be able to travel freely upon my human worlds, if you wish me to take the advice of your faith seriously. This sub sector must be mine.

You test her with these barbs you know. Yet she seems master enough of herself to not rise to the bait, overcoming her mortal instincts better than some lords you could name. Yet you also now see interest upon her face, she came out here to negotiate a peace for a reason, and if she has had dealings with the Eldar. She is probably more grateful for your forthrightness than their own convoluted evasiveness. You lift yourself from your musings as she answers. "Again, i will clarify what you are offering. A cardinal of the Imperial truth will be placed upon your ruling council, to advise you in matters of faith...In addition to the ministorium being allowed full access to your human worlds. Receiving no interference from you and yours on matters of faith?"

You nod "So long as they themselves do not step out of that role, they are free to preach as they may, with my guarantee as to their safety and wellbeing. Accidents do happen of course however." you say benignly

The Inquisitor narrows her eyes but nods as well, as she looks up at you still reclined upon your throne. "And the Cardinal himself, will he and his staff be given permission to move throughout your lands, as their role dictates. Is their safety physically and spiritually as equally guaranteed as their fellows.

You recline further. "They will of course be barred from certain areas of the palace and more hazardous facilities for mortals upon Daeloth. But they shall be free to perform their duties. As to their safety, I have already stated that I am no expert on spirituality, but I will gladly allow your most skilled experts to examine your priest if you are so greatly concerned for their safety.

Her face creases in thought and she paces. While Lasthule and the gene warrior are both still locked in motion, ready to act at a moment's notice. Finally she turns back to you. "Very well. The Imperium would be willing to concede the loss of Sivana… So long as the basing opportunities for the imperial navy, previously available in the Temeron sector are replaced with access to your own supply and repair facilities."

You grow irritated with this inquisitor had you not already offered enough. "I was under the impression that our territory was to be held Sacrosanct. Save only for the very rare and very limited times when an inquisitor would be required within our territory.

The inquisitor seems untroubled by your tone and her own turns business like "If you want that to be true, you will not have Sivana. The Imperial Navy's role is to protect this sector. It cannot perform its role If you bar it from transiting through this subsector. I understand you're not used to thinking on such grandscales Levnekh, but your realm stands in the centre of a crossroads within this sector, and this crossroads, whether you like it or not shall be garrisoned."

You did not come to this meeting to be condescended to by a mortal. "This crossroads was ill garrisoned all along then Inquisitor, if it could fall near completely to an awakening dynasty within only two years! And I'm sure the same force which so easily overcame your own garrison can adequately defend it" Your reign yourself in. "However, I'm sure there would be little requirement of any imperial garrison over my worlds should the Ork threat to the south be diminished. And this is one task among many that I am willing to assist you with.

The Inquisitor crosses her arms and looks toward you skeptically. "You would allow your fleet to be used against Yasquigs triumph then?"

You nod, your tone agreeable. "Indeed Inquisitor, I would be willing to assist with clearing the pathetic, degenerated offspring of the old ones from their worlds, wherever they can be found. Of course if you do not wish me to then claim those worlds as my own by right of conquest. You would have to ensure that such charity is well rewarded."

The Inquisitor Scoffs "how very mercenary of you"

You glare but continue your pronouncement "Furthermore, if you desire that your ships be allowed to move through and take supply from any world in this subsector, you shall have to abide by the reverse. Yulenoth ships shall be able to traverse the galaxy freely, with no limitations upon our transits"

The inquisitor falls silent for a time. Seemingly lost in thought. Though she slowly begins shaking her head. "You would compare access to six systems the equivalent to access to the whole galaxy Overlord. These are by no means a reversal of offers, the very presence of your ships in the system could throw entire worlds into revolt!

How typical of the young. "Do you think that I shall not face the same? To have primitives docked above my worlds, being restored in my berths. The Sirano were nearly killed by the Orks but they remember that they were only in such a position due to conflicts with you. No the only way that your requests are acceptable is if we have the same rights of transit."

The Inquisitor falls silent for a time, however, you anticipate that if you allow it, this meeting will simply devolve into a circular argument. Instead you rush ahead to your final demands and offers before she returns to the issue of borders. "Lastly, the empire known as the Sirane shall have their vassalage adjusted to be under the reigns of the Yulenoth dynasty. While I am sure that you know nothing of it, Inquisitor, it seems that the former governess of this sub-sector had substantial long term plans to conduct the subjugation and eradication of their entire species. Therefore considering the unpleasantness which could occur if such were to be...discovered. It is likely in the best interests of all that they come under my dominion."

She betrays nothing fixing you only with an indifferent and impatient stare. "Do you have anything to offer in exchange for such ludicrous claims"

You swiftly respond "I propose to replace all the soldiery which you have lost access to due to my conquest of the Temeron sub - sector"

She simply raises her eyebrows, and her tone is dry. "The Astra Militarum will not accept lizards or traitors into its ranks. I assure you that if that were desired, we would long since have made use of that mongrel race. Beside that fact, the men provided by Temeron amounted less to a tenth of that of even a minor hive world. Even if we were willing to accept the troops, they are not worth what you seem to believe they would be"

You merely shake your head. "No, I propose a solution that the men of Krieg would find quite familiar. The Necrontyr since the most ancient of days have been master cloners. It was the only way our race could survive the curse placed upon us in those near forgotten times. I do not offer you the chaff of a hive to throw against the horrors of the galaxy. No, I offer you the best of humankind, If that is saying much. Some of the strongest, smartest, bravest and most obedient soldiers in the galaxy are within your reach. Implanted with the knowledge to use lasrifle and bayonet from birth, knowing your military codex's by heart and... socialized enough to pass as normal. I do not offer you quantity Inquisitor, I offer you quality. Though of course you will have to give them time to reach maturity before you march them out."

Again she has that avaricious gleam in her eyes. "These clones would have to be watched. I wouldn't expect less than a biologis Magos to watch and analyze what you have done. History is replete with those who have attempted what you have proposed."

You chuckle "I wouldn't expect any less Inquisitor. As to the possible success of these Clones. Your History may be filled with those who have tried and failed, ours however, has not."

failure

The next few hours is spent in negotiation in regards to the specifics about the various points being made. Specific requirements being adjusted and clarifications in regards to requirements. However ultimately the Inquisiter refuses to budge on the prospect of Yulenoth ships being allowed to breach imperial systems.

"No! Overlord, it simply cannot be done. To allow you onto imperial worlds is the utmost possible breach. For you to hunt down ork worlds or stalk the stars in search of the Eldar is forgivable, even preferable in some cases. But this is a step too far."

She sounds drained by the several hours of negotiations which have taken place. You knew from millennia ago the rigors that such could take upon the mortal frame. No matter how trained or disciplined the individual may be. Your gaze shifts to the two body guards, still ready to act at a moment's notice and rescind that slightly... Then again. How mortal were these gene warriors exactly. You ignore your musings as you focus again on the inquisitor, you will take every advantage you can in negotiations. Thus you lean forward upon your throne and press that point. "And what exactly do you think will occur should we be unable to come to an agreement, human. Our forces will clash in the void, your sixty ships vs my twenty. It doesn't even matter how, or why you can detect us. Though I do have my suspicions" you very deliberately turn your head to look at the warrior frame. "Unless you have a truly superlative plan, some monumental artifice, by the end of the day half your fleet or more will lie broken upon the void. And that is if you win. Should you lose...well, These negotiations would be somewhat ephemeral in that case."

Though she may be tired you are sure that this mortal is still among the best of her kind. She fixes you with a piercing stare. "I could say the same thing for you Levnekh, the Imperial navy has faced far worse odds before and come out victorious. Should we win we will push you back to your tomb…"

You interject "And do what? You know enough of my kind to know of our fortifications, but allow you to fill you in deeper. For mine have been improved since I awoke from my tombs. How successful will your landings be when I light the atmosphere itself ablaze, for such is within my power. How effective will your bombardments be when whole segments of my fortifications phase in and out of reality at will. My tomb will not be breached unless your bring truly overwhelming force to bear. Even if you content yourself simply to sit in wait, besieging me? What will you expect to achieve? I and my dynasty are immortal and unending. Should you best us in arms we shall simply wait until you're dead, and your successor is dead, and theirs. How long can this fleet of yours be mobilized and be kept away from the front Drachus? How long until their watch falters? I can wait until your empire rots around me if need be and I will be as vital then as I am at this moment. Inquisitor, This is the only chance you have for this to work in your favor. This is a waiting game, and in a waiting game the immortal always wins. The deal will not change, so give me your answer." As you say that you lean back upon your throne and wait.

The Inquisitor argues, then, seeing your lack of action she pauses and waits. This lasts for several minutes before she begins to pace, wearing a shallow trail in the soft rock of the asteroid. She even attempts to draw you out by falsely walking away from your throne. Only to return before reaching a quarter of the way to her vessel. She threatens death and destruction. She appeals to you love of science, she even has her Necron servant speak again. You remain silent through it all. Finally, standing before you, nearly twenty minutes after you went silent, her shoulders slump minutely and she whispers "Fine"

After a lengthy debate, the Inquisitor has finally agreed to the terms you have proposed. Now is the final chance to decide for war or peace under these terms.

[ ] You have argued your terms well. You are content with this peace

[ ] This is not a peace worth having. Return to the fleet. Prepare for war

No need for a moratorium, the prior votes have had plenty of discussion.

[X] You have argued your terms well. You are content with this peace
Might as well until the sudden yet inevitable betrayal (hopefully by us).

Now how can we leverage this agreement with imperials to improve our standing among Necrons?

We can travel freely, trade and barter with imperials, we have a connection in the inquisition, we have organic beings as vessels. Surely these advantages can be leveraged somehow.

Undoubtfully. Worst comes to worst, we can just throw bags of cash at them to change their minds. That and forcing the issue when we begin constructing more ships.

Maybe we can offer the clones to other dynasties as well. Economies of scale and all..

Also, do we know of the C'tan in Mars ? Our crypteks might eventually stumble upon it, if they don't already know. It is very likely if they get invited to Mars to look at tech that can't be moved.

Possibly. However I doubt the Cogs would ever allow a Xeno so close to the heart of their domain, especially when we would be actively challenging their monopoly on technology.
