Of Lords and their Legions (A Necron Overlord Quest)

We currently lack the fleet necessary to hold them off completely, so I'm partial to sending our fleet just out of range of their fleet then activating the Bane. After which our armies will attempt to hold for as long as possible, giving the enemy two choices.

1. Split up their fleet, one to continue the invasion/raiding of the planet while other moves to stop our Bane.

2. Rush the raiding, lessening our loses as they are either forced to retreat with less then expected slaves or with next to nothing as our armies push them off the field.

How about we make a play at defending the world, but 'allow' ourselves to be pushed back from areas that wouldn't be crippling (morale, reputation, industrial -wise) and that are tempting enough to Visron. Pre-target those areas with the Bane synched to the Sirane, then fire it up at full blast once they are taken as slaves.
Our fleet is kept as intact as possible, our honor is retained, and we ruin the prizes that Visron wants while having a tiny chance of costing them ships or troops. Maybe pre-arm the Sirane of that area with weapons that won't be noticed/taken during their enslavement, so they do maximum damage once driven beserk on the enemy ships. Could be multi-part weaons that individually don't register as dangerous.

[X] Reinforce the worlds with all available ships plus Bane.

In the event of us detecting more warp signatures anywhere else in our system, we would have enough time to disengage and fallback to our capital right?

our capital should have a lot of defences around it

Yeah, surprisingly enough Rakashal (The System under attack) is probably the second closest to Daeloth. Since you have a subsector wide grid, you should be able to see any known FTL system coming with time enough to spare

Sacrosanct 2: The assembling fleet
You arrive into the Rakashal system at the head of what gathered might you have available, ready to meet the foe in glorious battle. The Nilankh have struck with near-perfect timing as your greater fleet is spread thin across the void and before deals could be made with the surrounding dynasties. A coincidence that you will have to discuss at length with your Varguard. Still, despite their fortune or skill at espionage, Visron's servants shall still find themselves pitted against a worthy force. For despite your own threadbare fleet, you can see at a glance that your vassals have gathered in full panoply under Jornakh.

Beneath your throne from whence you dispense your dictates, the holographic projector displays the surprisingly formidable fleets of both the Sirane and Sirano. Dozens of lesser ships dot the stars above the yellow-green world From which the Sirane Queens have ruled for millennia. Their fleet has always been small, a mere handful of spheroid shaped ships, bristling with torpedo tubes and railgun batteries, but overall lacking in sophistication. What they lack in numbers or technology however they make up in the Sirvinasa. A colossal, near immobile battle station the size of a tomb ship. Of such size, that entire fleets of strike craft call it home and mounting such a quantity of potent if crude weaponry that it is easy to see how the Sirane warded off their Imperial overlords for so long.

It is a sharp contrast in doctrine to the more numerous Sirano vessels, whose birdlike hulls take after the crescent shape of your escorts. Great wings of adamantium coated plasteel holding a vast array of weaponry, from tesla batteries and plasma casters through even to primitive gause cannons mounted upon their most modern and fearsome vessel. All focused forward to deliver a crippling first strike. They are also more numerous than their more primitive cousins, Jornakhs efforts seeing to a formidable fleet, for their empires relatively meagre size. Idly You spare of moment to wonder for a moment how willing he is to risk this effort of half a century on protecting these new vassals of his before putting such thoughts to the side.

Finally and quite surprising to you is the addition of what seems to be a significant levy of cargo arks and other transport vessels, keeping station alongside the proper war fleet under your son's command. Lightly armed and armoured, you cannot help but think of this as a wasteful meatshield against the calibre of foes bearing down on Rakashal. Nevertheless, when preparing to face your kin, it is no small wonder that they have spared every ship available.

Putting the size of the force they have assembled to the side, you assess in the quiet of your mind that despite their might, your vassals are simply outmatched. The Sirane were merely an impediment to the Imperium before you claimed dominion over them, and the Sirano have not yet learned close to half of what you potentially have to offer the nascent species. Were it not for your presence. Even both of these cultures full combined might would mean little to this negligent swipe from the Nilankh. Visron may be lord of only two tombs, but the might of Necron artifice can not be discounted, nor the skill of her practised generals. The small fleet approaching the system would have likely swept aside these ships like gnats without your presence. You are here though, and that may make all the difference.

It is with this thought that you open communication with the Sirvinasa, the vast Sirane battle station from which Jornkh has been planning the defence. With a gesture from your hand, the star map appears to detonate, only to be replaced with a lifesize representation of your son. Attired for war and cape flowing in an artificial wind, he rises from a respectful bow, voice booming in adulation through the speakers.

"Hail Father, honour be upon you and all our kin before us. I had hoped that you would muster the might of the Yulenoth to engage in this battle and I have not been disappointed! Let all those who would invade our space and endanger our peoples tremble at the amassed might of our dynasty!"

He speaks boldly, perhaps necessarily so. your vassals within your fleets know their vessels well, you imagine, and are all too aware of how they would compare against even the least of your own. Knowing this you understand Jornakhs posturing, he is attempting to inspire his lizards, stiffening their spines against their likely doom. You, however, will largely leave such grandstanding to your son. He was ever the unspoken superior in inspiring the legions under your command. Though you search for and find a note of relief at your coming in Jornaks trained oratory, a note only you would recognise. For despite the grandeur and pride in his tone and the eons which have passed you still hear the faintest echo of the boy he once was when you first sent him off to war.

"Indeed Jornakh, Visron's impudence must be punished and her fleets ejected from my realm. Allow space within your ranks for my forces to take their place and we shall make war upon the foe."

Your son waits, an expectant tilt to his skull before he solemnly nods. "It shall be done, my lord. Shall I come aboard your own vessel, or shall we discuss strategy within the Siranes mighty bulwark.?"

Upon whose vessel shall the strategy be forged?

Have Jornakh come to your vessel. A signal that you shall be the one in command of all forces during this battle.
  • [ ] Conservatively. You have many foes and few ships to fight them. Prioritise maintaining the integrity of your fleet over defending the surface (Levnekhs martial will be used to fight out the battle)
  • [ ] With a balanced approach. You will fight this battle as you have fought those against the imperium. You will fight, and oppose all landings possible. But you will not throw your ships away should the defence turn disastrous (Levnekhs martial will be used to fight out the battle)
  • [ ] Defiant Defence. However bitter the cost may be, we must show the Sirane that we will fight for them as hard as we would if this were Daeloth itself (Levnekhs martial will be used to fight out the battle)

[ ] Meet Jornakh upon the Sirvinasa, the enormous Sirane battle station. Indicating that you shall delegate mastery of the fleet to your son (Jornakhs martial will be used to fight the battle, Jornakh will also use the fleet as he sees fit in the coming battle)

Our ships are expensive and not easy to replace. Sirano lives, at the end of the day, are, as sad as that is.

We can easily replace ships when we improve resource gathering + I imagine losing here would hurt our standing among the necrons, especially since we need to make deals with them.

Why? Because this he has higher stats then us. That and he has more options that we are unaware off. Those cargo vessels for example... Space fire ships? Either way, the only path I see is a bloody victory after having the planet lightly sacked and us winning slightly in an extended skirmish. So I'd rather see what our heir and son has in mind.

While I like using higher stats, this is the first Necron attack on the Yulenoth. I think Levnekh should be the one to command this battle to establish his bonafides to the other Dynasties. A win or acceptable showing here, and he can let Jornakh handle future ones to blood him as the heir.

"Son, I believe you will do a better job protecting our servants than me."
"Because I've proven myself in previous campaigns?"
"Because your numbers are higher, thank RNGesus."

To put it into perspective, we are only 10 martial better then average frontier Imperial Admiral. Us fighting against a actual Necron lord would be very dicey. Though our heir is better then by a small amount (3), he also is a veteran of countless campaigns, presumably participating in many skirmishes against fellow Necrons. Hopefully, that would translate into a better strategy and modifiers due to experience in their field of expertise.
