[X] "...how we met Lucas?"
"Do you remember how we met Lucas?"
Lucas looks at you from the corner of his eye, curious as to why wanted to steer the conversation towards your first meeting with him before turning his attention to the hall in front of him. Sierra on the other hand looks towards the ground in thought, trying to recall your first encounter with the horror aficionado.
"I think so..." Sierra says, furrowing her brow in thought. "I think Eli introduced us to him back in junior year?"
"Yeah, I believe it was a couple weeks after he had transferred to our school." You explained. You paused for a moment to try and recall what you remembered of how Lucas and Eli met before continuing, "And I think he and Eli shared an Algebra class together-"
"German."
"Huh?" You look to Lucas who continues to stare straight ahead.
"We had a German language class together." He explains.
"Wait, you can speak German?" You asked, genuinely surprised.
"Never said that," He shrugs. "just had the class. Would have preferred French."
"Heh... Of course our resident skirt chaser would want to learn French..." Sierra chuckled tiredly.
"Anyway," Lucas said, ignoring Sierra's jab. "I started talking to Eli because he seemed like a cool guy. We hit it off pretty well so about a week later he invited me to tag along to some party, which was where I met you guys."
"Oh yeah..." You mutter, a feeling of nostalgia washing over you. "That was being held at Summer Hines' house when her parents were out of town for a weekend, right?"
"I literally don't remember or even know who that is. I was just tagging along with Eli." Lucas said with a shrug. Made sense that he wouldn't remembered, he was new at the time and Summer dropped out of school about a month after she held that party. You were never sure why she dropped out, but there were plenty of rumors as to the reasons why that floated around for maybe a week before everyone moved on.
"I think we hitched a ride to the party with Dani and her cousin, right Medea...?" Sierra asked before breaking into a coughing fit. You nod your head and reach over to her to pat her on the back, the motion sending a wave of fresh pain through you.
"Y-yeah..." You grunted out, your eye twitching slightly from pain. "I had to sneak out of my house to attend, remember?"
"You snuck out?" Lucas asks, giving you a weird, questioning look. "Didn't think you were the type, Medea."
"My parents don't like it when I'm out late. They're kinda protective like that." You explain as you sway a bit, trying to keep your balance. "But anyway, what were you doing at the party before we showed up?"
"Me and Eli hanged out for a bit before we split up to do our own things." He explained, his expression unreadable. "Eli was busy mingling with some others and I was chatting up this cute redhead hanging in the basement. Don't remember her name, not important. We, uh, talked for a while about movies and shit, and I was giving her a, uh,
hands-on demonstration on how to play Pool."
"Summer has a Pool table?" You ask.
"Well,
had." He corrected. "Some guy did a running leap onto the Pool table and broke it in half while I was teaching her to play. Totally killed the mood I had been working on with her. Though she seemed more upset by the guy smashing the table than I was and started freaking out on him for it. Decided to make myself scarce at that point and go back upstairs."
"Hey," Sierra spoke up suddenly. "Can we stop for a bit?"
"Something the matter?" Lucas asked, looking over your best friend with concern.
"Yeah... Just need to sit for a bit..." She said.
Lucas shoots a look to you and you nod to him. He nods back and comes to a full stop and lowers Sierra to the ground, leaning her against the decaying stone wall of the hall. You shuffle over to Sierra and carefully lower yourself next to her, being cautious not to hurt yourself as you take a seat next to her on the ground. You were honestly rather glad she suggested to stop because between the pain of broken bones and your spinning vision, it was rather difficult to keep your from falling over.
"You okay?" You say, immediately mentally chastising yourself as you can clearly see that
she is not okay.
"Well... I haven't died yet... That's a plus..." Sierra said with a bitter laugh. "Sorry... That isn't funny right now..."
"Try not to sit here too long, guys." Lucas says as he nervously looks down the hall. "I don't want us to linger here any longer than we have to."
"She isn't doing well, Lucas." You say firmly. "Let her take a moment."
"Sorry..." Lucas sighs, keeping his gaze down the hall. "I just... Want us all to get out of here quickly..."
"I know. We'll get moving soon, just give Sierra a bit..." You say as you give Lucas a gentle smile.
"Right... Should we continue our current discussion?" He asks, looking around unsure. "I feel like we
really should be focused on our current situation."
"Just indulge me, Lucas..." Sierra sighed, looking at him with an unfocused gaze. "I really just... need to focus on something better for a moment..."
Lucas looks at her with a expression that you couldn't really read. He closes his eyes and sighs. "Okay..." He says. "So after I left the basement Eli found me and pulled me over to where you guys were to met you. I kinda already knew Dani by that point as she tended to hang around Eli, but I believe that was the first time the three of us ever spoke to one another."
"Considering how much they hanged out back in high school, I'm surprised that they didn't go out sooner..." Sierra remarked. "Instead she always went out with complete douche bags..."
"Y-Yeah..." You mutter, shifting around uncomfortably. "That's, uh, one way to describe them..."
"I think I only ever knew of maybe one of them." Lucas said. "I think it was her boyfriend from senior year. Now
that guy was a piece of work. She had a few minor boyfriends here and there but I don't really remember them too much. What were her boyfriends like
before I met her like?"
"Uh... Hey! Let's get back to talking about how we met?" You suggested, forcing a smile. While you didn't disagree with the assessment about Danielle's ex-boyfriends, you really don't want to get into it. Especially as the subject of Mike D'Souza would inevitably get brought up, and you'd rather not remind Sierra of
him.
"Right..." Sierra mutter before trying to rise to her feet. "I'm... I'm okay now, I think... Let's talk while we walk..."
You and Lucas nod, and you carefully stand back up while Lucas goes to support Sierra again. Everything hurts right now, and the world seemed to fluctuate between blurry and spinning. You starting to think you've may have banged your head when you were sent crashing into that wall by your failed spell. But soon the three of you began to continue trudging through the old hall, which seemed to go on without end as it twisted and turned, throwing off your sense of direction.
"When we arrived," Sierra began. "We ran into Eli in the living room... We talked to him a bit and he told us he wanted us to meet you... So he went to go grab you..."
"Did he say anything good about me?"
"Only that you were a huge nerd." You teased. Lucas chuckled as he nodded his head in agreement at that assessment. "But in all seriousness, what he said about you was pretty positive. He said you were a pretty chill guy, that you knew a lot about movies and art."
"Didn't mention you'd hit on anything with two X chromosomes..." Sierra remarked in a dry tone.
"Heh... Yeah, well... What can I say? It was a party and I was talking to three very pretty girls." He gave a self-deprecating laugh. "Besides, not like any of you objected."
"Well you were funny and had enough charm to not warrant getting your ass kicked..." Sierra rolled her eyes.
"Eh. I'll take what I can get." He chuckles again. "Still, it was a fun night. Learned that no one here can dance."
"You weren't any better..." You pouted.
"I'm glad I said yes to the whole party thing. I wouldn't have known you guys if I hadn't." Lucas frowns a bit. "So I don't want to lose you guys now..."
"Lucas..."
"You guys are pretty much the only friends I got. The only ones I've made since I moved to this state back in high school." He stated glumly. "And lately... I've felt lonely. We're all so busy now, with you in college and the rest of us with our own jobs... I just..." Lucas pauses, his sullen gaze fixing to the filth encrusted floor that he walked over, contemplating his next words. He sighs and says, "Some times... I think that I'm the only one of us who's life isn't going anywhere. And that you'll all leave and I'm just going to be stuck where I am."
"Dude..." Sierra mutters as she stares at Lucas with concern.
"But even if you all leave, even if I'm left behind, I'm still going to do my goddamn best to make sure you all get out of
here." He turns his head toward you and Sierra and gives the both of you a sad smile.
You and Sierra share looks of concern with one another before turning your attention back to Lucas. "Lucas, how long have you felt that way?"
His smile drops as he looks at you confused. "Does 'forever' count?" He asks. "I mean, I got a lot of problems, guys, and this really isn't the time or place to be talking about them."
"After you unloaded some of your baggage like that...?" Sierra remarks before coughing.
"Yeah, I, uh, kinda rambled there, didn't I?" He laughs bitterly. "Remembering a better time just highlighted just how
fucked our situation is for me, and I guess I just couldn't keep it down, ya know?"
"It's okay..." Sierra wheezed. "If it cheers you up... If we get out of here we can do that whole movie night plan of ours..."
Lucas chuckles and shakes his head. "Thanks, but after all this I think I can go my whole life without seeing another horror film."
"Heh... Can't argue that..." Sierra chuckled tiredly.
You were all quiet after that, focusing on walking down the ever winding and expansive halls. The light from the torches mounted on the stone walls flickered dimly as the fires seem to slowly fade as you traverse further into the labyrinthine dungeon. Now that you were free from the discussion you have to wonder just how large was this place? How have you never heard of it before? An undertaking like this would require years of resources and manpower to even create a tenth of this place. And this was under a forest that saw frequent visitors so there is no way all that would go unnoticed.
You had a thought, one that sent a chill up your spine. You thought, what if this was all already here? That the old man who trapped you all here didn't make it, but instead found it. For some reason that thought disturbed you more than the idea of years of construction going unnoticed in a public forest. At this point, you couldn't rule anything out.
Trying to put that thought out of your mind you focus on where you are heading, and you soon realize you haven't come across a door or a cell or even just a hole in the wall in quite some time. There hasn't even be a diversion in the path either, it was just one long, continuous hallway.
But rounding a corner you see the path come to a complete stop as the floor gives way to a pool of water that extends further down the hall. Looking it over it seems like the floor gave way, having sunk into the earth and, at some point, was filled with water. The pool of water extends maybe a good hundred and ten feet before you see the rest of the stone floor which didn't give way. A few feet to your right was corridor just a little past the water, which you could probably leap over to it. Half way down the sunken hall you see a lone door way, it's door having fallen off and was now floating in the water before it.
"Well I wasn't expecting this..." Sierra says, her eyes scanning over the water as if looking for something.
"There was a hall on the floor above that was all wet." You said. "We think we might be under the lake."
"We should go back." Lucas said. "We're kinda far from where we came in and Eli and Dani might be back there."
"Or they could be this way..." Sierra suggested.
"Maybe," He nodded his head. "But I'm not too keen on treading through water. I mean, we don't know how deep it is."
That was true, looking at the water you couldn't tell just how deep it goes. The water was dark and murky, obscuring whatever bottom it may have.
"We could go down there." You say as you point to the corridor a few feet away. "We could jump that I think."
"I might have some trouble..." Sierra grumbles, making you wince emphatically. She's right, she is pretty banged up and might not be able to pull it off. Heck, you might not be able to give your ribs are broken. You are honestly surprised you haven't passed out from pain yet.
Still, you've got options on how to proceed. Two ways to go forward, but you could always go back. Lucas did have a point that Eli and Danielle might be back where you all came from, but you have no way of really knowing. You do know for sure there is
something back the way you came, maybe more than one. You haven't seen it but you
heard it.
After a moment of thinking you decided...
[ ] Walk through the water. It is the quickest way through.
[ ] Go down the corridor. You don't know where it will take you, but you don't want to take any risks with the water.
[ ] Go back. You've gone a long way from where you were originally were, turning back now would be a good idea.
[ ] Cast a spell - Write in (Secondary action may be taken)
