Eh. Most writers have dabbled in smut. Henry obviously needs to publish better stuff for his homeland.

What's horrible about this is that I could tell a shitload of funny stories about trying to write smut, but if I do the people involved will hunt me down and kill me.

And by kill me, I mean brutally disembowel me with an ax and hang me by my entrails.

They know where I live.

...

So yeah, this kind of sucks for me.

Yes, he has.

In his own words to be a good writer is to be an "all-rounder" so he wrote them in order to not be embarrassed by his writings.

Then he quickly erased them.
Yeah, that's pretty much my attitude towards writing the stuff.

Really? You deleted it? Coward! I'd never delete my smut! :p
Have you actually written any? Because if you haven't, you really can't tell.

Titles of books go in italics or in quotation marks.
Not as fast as I once used to be.

But it's summer. There's the heat to consider.

*Sighs*
Seeing as I am a country over, I can commiserate with this.
Cattleya is his twin...
That's not how twins work, though.

dizygotic twins
Medical dictionary said:
dizygotic twins or fraternal twins—a pair of children born at the same time to the same mother but each developing from a different fertilized egg. Such twins are therefore nonidentical, being equivalent to normal SIBLINGS, and can be of the same or different sexes. Compare MONOZYGOTIC TWINS.
So I'm not seeing what Cattleya has to do with anything here. If anyone, Karin is the determining factor here. /slight Biology rant

He probably has a Wind affinity, doesn't he? He threw around Fire and Water, but never Earth. Considering his Father is square class in Water (IIRC), it probably wouldn't allow him to cast Fire spells, even simple ones, as a beginner while in stressful situations, such as riding a horse, were he of Water affinity.

And I suspect he is likely to improve a whole fucking lot with less religious chants.

-Henry prepares his wand for a spell-
"Oh, Flames of Eternal Might- agh, screw it. FIRAGA!"
-His tutor just blankly stares at the gigantic fireball that came out of his wand-
"Huh. neat."

that honestly sounds way too plausible. the way I understand it, there's no real science to the chant, it just is so widespread that this chant does this, that it is down to subconscious thought. then we get someone like shade who has the imagination, watched videos in his past life for imagery, and probably the will to get a chant like that to make a fuck off fireball. issue being that this kind of stuff has to be ingrained that deeply into your mind to get the magic to work. you can't just go and say fireball and have it come out, nor can you sit there and tell yourself really hard that it a fireball will come out of your wand. you have to essentially FSN hypnotize yourself via the constant practice and repitition of these chants like in these training sessions to get it to work. honestly it would essentially be easier to do it the fsn way.

There is few things comparable to the pain and horror of learning that bad things have happened to your family. Cat's sickness, Elanore's loneliness born of her strict attitude and soon Louise's "destiny" as a void mage.

It hurts to be a side character and know that no matter what you do you barley affect the stories outcome.

Well I mean.

watched videos in his past life for imagery

Plus, he's probably played games as well, and there's nothing ingraining "this spell does this" then actually experiencing the games for yourself.

Just as an example, if I say the spell Agi, how many people would know exactly what it does right off the bat?

Of course, you'd have to remove the "This is fiction" thought in your mind first.

Anyway, nice to see another Shade fic.

Still waiting on the 40k one.

The theory behind magic was simple. Everyone had a 'Willpower' pool, which was used to impose the will of the Noble upon the world. By doing so, fundamental laws could be altered, truths could be denied, and basically, bullshit could happen. Be it in the form of 'I want a hurricane right here and right now' to 'I want a fire snake to burn my foes'. The Mage used his Willpower pool to 'buy off' the spell, and in order to select the spell, the Mage had to concentrate on it and chant.

The 'magic system' however, was ruthless. Karin was the king of hacks, and she promptly deserved her status as such. You needed a wand you grew accustomed to, and you needed to concentrate on it. Sure, you could grow accustomed to a pitchfork, or to a harp, or to a large war hammer, but you also needed to train throwing spells with them. Your pool regenerated after resting and sleeping, which meant that you couldn't just keep on training throughout the day, and the 'amount' you were born with didn't change.

Is chant there just to help with focusing on desired effect? And all that founder bullshit just not so subtle propaganda tool so all nobles will pray every time they cast spells?

Does second part means what there is no magic in wand? Depending on affinity it should be possible to use ring to cast spells or something else equally small. Uncommon casting tool may help if your wand is taken and nobody expects you to start casting from quill or brooch.

Constant invocations of the Founder indicate that those formulas are Church-ordained and are intended to keep mages unconsciously associating their magic with their faith.

I bet that before Brimir the incantations were much shorter.
